Thank you so much William! 🥰 You are certainly correct, it's not always easy to know who is willing to be on camera and who is not. But I do try my best to avoid filming those who do not want to be. That might mean blurring someone out that has informed be they do not want to be on film after the fact, or it may mean me turning the camera away from someone I notice while I am walking that doesn't want to be (I actually do this many times - I will see a woman I am approaching shield her face or turn away - and I realize she does not want to be filmed, so I turn the camera in the opposite direction, before she is ever "caught on camera"). But, of course, I don't manage to do that every time, as seen in this video 😅 I was tempted to buy the little purse! But, as a gift for a family member. That was great never knew that market existed, sure I must have walked that way least one Saturday morning in past years, its huge. Worth a wander, fascinating electric collection of items. Did u go back for the bag?
I didn't go back for the bag. But I might next weekend. I would buy it as a gift for family, as I don't like purses myself. But it was quite unique, and not very expensive.
@@MHND_Mansour Oh, thank you! You know, if you miss Cairo and want to feel like you are here, maybe check out my friends channel. He is Canadian but makes walking tour videos all over the world, and has quite a few videos in Egypt ruclips.net/video/UCHztHx-8Aw/видео.html
That was very interesting. I am sure that there are some real gems in that junk. I could picture some of those articles decorating my living room already. Even passports are for sale 😮 but those have a historical value, I guess. Are there any antiques shops in Cairo, or do Egyptians just sell their their goods in the Diana market?
There may be some antique shops around, and I have seen old items in local markets before, even in certain areas of the famous and touristic Khan el-Khalili market. But this is a centralized market for it, which makes antique hunting a lot easier, I suppose. It's a fun market to wander through, you never know what you'll find here.
Thank you for the detailed reply. If I ever visit Cairo, I will certainly visit this market. Some items sold there would make better souvenirs from Egypt than some made in China pyramids or statutes bought in Khan Al Khalili. Thank you for sharing this experience with us. We really felt the vibes of the market as if we were there.
Thank you xMope! So my boyfriend is Egyptian, I met him here in Cairo, and he translates the video for me (because of course my Arabic is nowhere near good enough to do something like that). I plan to stay here for the foreseeable future, so many years to come! Inshallah
GG have you considered giving Tour guides to Tourists? I watch your videos everyday and I am coming to Egypt on vacation this Friday. I am struggling to find a Tour guide that won’t rip me off😂. Do you have any recommendations?
I unfortunately don't have any recommendations, sorry 😕 I just never take tours myself, so I don't have any personal experience with a guide or company and therefore do not want to recommend any, since I know nothing about them. I don't give tours either, I answered more in-depth as to why in this video: ruclips.net/video/FFEtYtqtGiI/видео.html But briefly explained, I am not licensed or legal to work as a tour guide, and it's also actually a lot of work! I applaud tour guides for their work, I showed a few people around a long time ago and found it exhausting 😅 If I ever did it in the future, I would charge way too much 🤣 So it's really better to just pay a local, Egyptian tour guide. That way you are helping support the locals, and they know more about the history anyway. Good luck, sorry I couldn't be of more help....
I’m so glad you post these videos! I’ll be in Egypt in December! Would love to connect with another solo traveler just to say hi! I’m always fascinated by your vlogs and find them helpful!
@@helen6265 Thank you so much Helen! ❤Are you going to be staying at a hostel? Because if you are, you will run into plenty of solo travelers there (especially at Dahab Hostel in downtown Cairo). But message me while you're here and see if I am around. Much love! ❤
Oh yes, for antique items this market is much better than Khan el-Khalili. Khan el-Khalili has many interesting things, but nothing quite so old and not as random as in this market. It's a fun market to poke around in
Hey dude, nice work! I've been wanting to hit up that market for a minute. Did you happen to see any Victrolas/gramophones? Also, lmk if you are ever in Maadi and want to get coffee. I'm an American English teacher who loves living here, too. Cheers and safe travels 😊❤🇪🇬
Thanks man! I can't say that I did see any gramophones, but I also wasn't really looking, and was distracted with filming the market as a whole/not filming some people. You should check it out, there's a lot of interesting stuff to see! I am almost never in Maadi (I think I've only been a handful of times in the last few years), but I appreciate the invitation! If I'm ever out that way I'll have to hit you up. Cheers! 🥂
@@Gventures you filmed swiftly over them; I had to pause to check them out closely. They weren’t patterned; the design looked hand painted which is a sign it’s antique. Obviously there’s the chance they could be modern replicas. I’m almost sure if they were not replicas they could be from the 18th century. Flip them over to check for the artisan’s stamp on the bottom YAY I’m so thrilled at the chance they could be antique. Btw they’re not very rare (they were produced commercially) and usually resell for 300-400 euros. Love your videos brave girl- keep it up :)
Yeah I know! I want to travel all over the Nile Delta sometime. But it won't be this year, I have too many plans already. But trust me, it's something I want to do, I have heard many great things about Damietta 🙏

@@reaazb7967 Oh. Well, I don't really know who to suggest....I mean I have friends, but they have jobs so they have to work and probably wouldn't be free to show someone around. And I don't take tours, so I don't know any tour guides either....
Egyptian here: that guy at 19:10 was asking why are you filming, like he just forgot Egyptian markets are mostly for tourists and youtube is something now.. Sometimes I just can't understand my fellow local Egyptians lol
@@TheCrazyOneloll Yeah it appears to mimic that. As someone mentioned in the comments, it looks exactly like a toy gun from Disney World or some place like that (someone said they had that same toy in the past).
You mentioned that when you extend your visa you need to show that you exchanged dollars to Egyptian pounds. Can you do this at a money exchange(black market)or just at a bank? My wife is Egyptian and has a bank account in Egypt, will this make difference? Do I need to be added to her account?
Black market? No, I never encourage that, not only because it's illegal, but because it just exacerbates the economic issues. Anyways, since they started to float the pound, it more accurately reflects the exchange rate. Before, I heard the exchange rates on the black market was like 70 to 1 USD, whereas at the bank it was like 30 to 1. Now, it's probably very similar at the banks or the black market ($1 = 49 EGP or something like that). You don't need an account at a bank to exchange USD to EGP at the bank either. And to extend your visa, you NEED the receipt from the bank showing that you exchanged money, and present that receipt at the immigration office.
Thanks man ❤️ Yeah, street photography and filming is legal in Egypt. I still try to respect people's wishes and turn the camera away from them if I notice they don't want to be filmed (and many times I do if I notice someone doesn't want to be), but it is very difficult to do that with hundreds of people around, and it is a public space, after all.

Middle East is famous for their hospitality, actually. If you ever meet someone who has traveled through many countries in the Middle East, they always talk about the hospitality. I think most people are generally friendly here too, though not everyone wants to be on camera. Hi, I’m Sohail Ahmad Khan from Pakistan, currently living in Dubai. I’m planning a trip to Egypt in October 2024 and will be staying at the Holy Sheet Hostel, as per your recommendation. I’ve downloaded the Uber app, but I noticed there’s no option for motorcycle rides. Could you please guide me on which app I should download to request a motorcycle ride in Egypt? Thanks!
There will be a motorcycle (scooter) available once you arrive to Egypt, you will see it. Or you can even look that up now. Put your destination and departure location as somewhere in Cairo, and then you will see that Uber scooter is available. There are also similar apps like Indriver or Careem that offer motorcycle taxis, but Uber also 100% has it. Probably you are just seeing that Dubai does not offer scooters, but if Uber thinks you are in Egypt (so if you put your destination as, for example, the Pyramids of Giza, and you are leaving from Holy Sheet, you will then see Uber motorcycle available). But Uber motorcycle is not available from the airport, just so you know. Thanks so much for watching man, I appreciate your support! ❤️🙏

Tayeb!!! I was wondering if you would stop in and say hello, happy to hear from you! That was cool meeting you in the market! It actually calmed me down a bit, especially after being yelled at by that guy before running into you 🤣 So nice to meet you 😊
Thanks for sharing this video of the market! Just a video recommendation if I may suggest! I would love to see you do a short video of Egyptian words that tourists should be familiar with so we can have a better understanding. It would be so helpful and appreciated! Keep on rocking GG!

Gigi you are awesome ❤ love you
That was great never knew that market existed, sure I must have walked that way least one Saturday morning in past years, its huge. Worth a wander, fascinating electric collection of items. Did u go back for the bag?
Eclectic 😄
I didn't go back for the bag. But I might next weekend. I would buy it as a gift for family, as I don't like purses myself. But it was quite unique, and not very expensive.

Beautiful stuff but I would never go there alone
Why not?

GG have you considered giving Tour guides to Tourists? I watch your videos everyday and I am coming to Egypt on vacation this Friday. I am struggling to find a Tour guide that won’t rip me off😂. Do you have any recommendations?
Only problem, you'd have to do it discreetly as only Egyptians can be tour guides.
I unfortunately don't have any recommendations, sorry 😕 I just never take tours myself, so I don't have any personal experience with a guide or company and therefore do not want to recommend any, since I know nothing about them. I don't give tours either, I answered more in-depth as to why in this video:
ruclips.net/video/FFEtYtqtGiI/видео.html
But briefly explained, I am not licensed or legal to work as a tour guide, and it's also actually a lot of work!
@@SHADO3DMC Yeah and it's exhausting work 😅
I’m so glad you post these videos!
Maybe more of the younger generation there, but it can be a mix. If I am in Cairo when you are here and available, sure I am down to grab a coffee or something! But I think I may be on the road at that time, I always wait till winter for my motorcycle roadtrips because the summer is too hot, and I have plans to drive NW this winter. But message me while you're here and see if I am around. Much love! ❤
Interesting market, maybe there we can find better treasures and reliquaries than Jan Al jalili

Cheers! 🥂

I spotted several ceramic ginger pots that could be from the 17th or 18th century.
Ya think?
@@Gventures you filmed swiftly over them; I had to pause to check them out closely. They weren’t patterned; the design looked hand painted which is a sign it’s antique. Obviously there’s the chance they could be modern replicas. I’m almost sure if they were not replicas they could be from the 18th century. Flip them over to check for the artisan’s stamp on the bottom YAY I’m so thrilled at the chance they could be antique. Btw they’re not very rare (they were produced commercially) and usually resell for 300-400 euros. Love your videos brave girl- keep it up :)

Thank you
Giselle
If you are in public place and walking, whatever your eyes can see you are allowed to record
Around the world a lot of people don’t know that
Maybe when you intentionally, videotape someone ie stalk someone.
But if you are walking and videotaping it shouldn’t be a problem
Thanks man ❤️ Yeah, street photography and filming is legal in Egypt. I still try to respect people's wishes and turn the camera away from them if I notice they don't want to be filmed (and many times I do if I notice someone doesn't want to be), but it is very difficult to do that with hundreds of people around, and it is a public space, after all.

Sometimes I feel some people in Egypt want to eat you alive, really annoying…
Its amazing with their country open to the world and all this tourism they have, they seem as if they never seen foreigners before, although there are countries/communities that never seen foreigners before but they are not that hostile, Middle East is famous for that.
Middle East is famous for their hospitality, actually. If you ever meet someone who has traveled through many countries in the Middle East, they always talk about the hospitality. I think most people are generally friendly here too, though not everyone wants to be on camera. This guy was rude for no reason, but I film one or 2 videos every week and have been for the last 3 years and can say this rarely happens. Most people wanna be on camera and are nice
