From all the most developed and most well known humanoid robots out there at the moment I have to say I love Ameca's face the most. When it speaks, the facial movements are fully disconnected from the spoken words, so, a long way to go there, but, the amount of facial movements when not speaking has impressive expression scope..
Yeah, it did have a bit of a Teddy Ruxpin element to its mouth movements. As if the mouth was reacting to the sounds, rather than the other way around.
They have the expression capability down excellent, but interaction and speech mimicking have a long way to go. Arm and hand motion seems fluid and realistic. This robot may currently have the potential of signing language to supplement broadcasts for the hearing impaired. That would create the branding needed to expand Ameca.
pretty sure this company mostly focuses on hardware not software, such is why the ai isn’t as complex as some people have seen in other robots that lack the same hardware
I give respect to the human ingenuity, hard work, and intelligence that goes into creating something like this. It really is amazing. What I don't particularly agree with, is the underlying notion that these are needed.
With jobs not paying livable wages and companies wanting more cheaper labor, this is inevitable. The only way to prevent total collapse of civilizations and humanity would be to dismantle the outdated, highly flawed monetary-market system. Our Science and technology are passed the limitations of our current economic system. We need for the economic system to evolve along with everything else. A good replacement would be to have a Resource-Based economy. It isn't perfect, but it is far more superior than the current monetary-market system by millions of miles.
I laughed when he was trying to explain why we won’t see them in homes anytime soon. Dude, just say this robot would be too expensive for 99% of Americans and a Roomba would be cheaper. 😂
I'm fascinated by robots and robotic technology. Androids/Robots that mimic human form and personality are amazing feats of what humans can create. I feel like if I saw one of these Ameca robots or a similar type robot on the streets or in someone's household, I would be in awe, and I would be pleantly curious.
I couldn't stop smiling this entire video. Ameca is amazing & it's crazy what people are capable of creating these days. Everyone who worked on her should be incredibly proud!
The facial and body movement is amazing, and I love the hand movements. I think this would be great for some customer service-type applications, to save the mental health of people in some jobs, where the AI being limited isn't too much of a disadvantage. Save humans for the super human specific things where you have to really think about how to respond to and handle a situation, or for when the AI of a robot isn't enough. Having the realistic face and expressions thing would still be helpful for humans with some things, because interaction with others of our species is so core to our neurological development.
@@gato0082 it's not replacement. It's saving people's mental health and applying their skills where a human is specifically needed. It's like saying someone is too skilled to work in fast food when they have the education and skill to be a chef in a proper restaurant. The robots with human faces would take the place of a bank teller or receptionist, and a customer could ask for a human counterpart's help if they desire it. A receptionist would be really busy with other work besides just sitting at the front desk of some office, and so it would free up their time to focus on that work without having to rush and they wouldn't have so many things competing for their attention all the time. It would increase productivity and the value of work done by humans, not decrease it. It's the avoidance of treating people like slaves and doormats, and treating them like actual people with feelings and health concerns, and with skills. We could achieve so much more as a civilization if we were better able to focus on the stuff humans are really freaking good at, instead of things that are really simple and mindless, or activities that negatively affect our health. But you can feel free to go apply to McDonald's for the position of "human bullseye #3" and have change thrown in your face and be spat on by a boomer during a pandemic if you want, like what happened to my friend working at Wendy's last year, if that's really your passion.

Right now you're being.. kinda vague, or at least, I don't know for sure what your thoughts are behind your words. And let me make this clear: the vision I shared for this technology is an ideal situation. Ideal does not mean most likely. I am aware of that. We can only do so much baby proofing to prevent evil people from taking advantage of things. And, at this point, if this technology is misused, we are past protecting the knowledge of it. The best we can do is look at what good can be done with it, and try to beat those with bad intentions to it. We can try our very hardest to do good, and spread good, or we can refuse to learn about something that could be used for evil. But turning away from it doesn't help anybody. It doesn't stop anyone. I am very concerned about what evil could come from AI, and the replacement of humans with technology. But technology and AI isn't going anywhere. So, we might as well set a standard for how it is used, a good standard, and recognize its capabilities, and draw a distinction between that and humans. The better we understand how we are different, the more we will appreciate humans, and the better we can do for each other. Turning a blind eye is the same as permission at this point.

Ameca is an amazing robot, but people shouldn't misunderstand its abilities. As he said, it is designed for entertainment. It is not intelligent at all in the way you and I think about intelligence, although AI has been used to make some of its movements more lifelike (e.g., visually tracking a moving object). The voice is coming from a human operator. It probably has little to no dexterity, it can't walk, and I bet it can't lift much of anything. It's designed to wow an audience by its very human expressive gestures and facial expressions - and it does that exceedingly well.
How long till Boston dynamics buy the company and put this movements on their dancing robots? If Disney doesn't buy them first to use them as animatronics

The reverse uncanny valley thing is really interesting, like if we see something trying to be hyper realistic then our brain puts up filters to try and detect whether it's fake or not , but with Ameca we can see that it's a robot so our brain doesn't put up the filters and so her human-ness is able to get through and she seems more real.

I think this is really cool and amazing how fast technology evolves! I would say the eyes and the forehead looks great for making facial expressions, however the mouth when smiling looks a bit exaggerated, it can be toned down a bit. When the robot spoke, I wish the mouth went along with the sound movements (matching lip sync). The hand movements looks nice! I would love to see hand gestures and maybe some sign language. I agree that toning down the hyper realism made me like the robot more. Maybe the robot can have a stylized or colorful look to it! Overall I am excited to see technology advancements. I'm just a learning 3D animator but I find robots pretty awesome.
Maybe instead of equating human gesture to the robot, maybe it’s gestures are simply those of a robot, sorta like how animals have gestures unique to their species. Just a thought. But I love your idea of them coming in different colors maybe like the 2021 iMacs. I’ll take my robot in orange please 😁
Honestly I like how Ameca is reacting to new things with non-existent wonder I'm also very happy that they didn't go for the "make the robot look as realistic as possible route"
I've only just come across this robot today. It's obviously an incredible feat of engineering and design. I find it funny that the rictus grin is the biggest letdown of the facial expressions. Had it just looked nonchalant whilst the other guy was talking, It would have easily crossed many aspects of the uncanny valley. I suppose this is because, as humans, we can readily tell the difference between a genuine smile and someone who's just forcing one for camera. The robot seems to have been burdened with a forced smile throughout the interview, which just looks a bit wrong.
The irony when you have the technology to build an impressive robot that has facial expressions and you can't afford a background noise cancelling headset.
The monetary system has served us well in the past may be but it's now creating scarcity artificially. @@2jcward they probably won’t, evidence suggest consciousness is a biological trait, a robot is just a program that can only process how much you put in to it
I do like the grey skin, it avoids to a degree the uncanny valley, I mean why obsess with making it look exactly like a human anyway? It's a robot, it just needs to convey information with expressions, you don't need pink translucent skin to do that. I also like the design in The Bicentennnial Man movie, sturdy, golden, with facial expressions. Basically gold and silver seem to be good colors for robots.
Are ya’ll making sure you can run diagnostic reports on their facial expressions because one robot likes to insinuate the human emotions a lot and I just don’t think we’ll know if some of these robots are infatuated with them or if they really mad mad.
I am an engineer and I like it. Non-techies are likely to be more critical. I also think most of its "Humanness" is programmed in and someone is controlling it remotely, to some extent. Still Cool and AI is coming, they say.
I feel like we need to work on AI a lot more before we really get to the bare bones of what makes a robot worth having. Heck, I have a roomba and an Alexa, I can't really see myself needing a humanoid robot. The only reason I could see a need for a humanoid robot would be for use as a shell whenever we figure out how to upload our consciousness to a digital format.
The sound has that electronic squawk, where you "know" its words are being played on a typical speaker. Combined with the less-than-accurate lip movements destroys the suspension of disbelief. If AMECA could use air pressure, "vocal cords", tongue and lips to form words and sounds, it would be much, much further along at natural human accessibility.
To watch in a video, it super cool! To meet one in the real world would be a bit freaky. The capabilities of AI are one step removed from human. In a robot I think I would be very apprehensive or intimidated. It would definitely take getting used to.
Despite the fact that he is in a position to know best, I still predict that even he will be surprised by the exponential advances in artificial intelligence, robotics that will take place sooner than expected.
To laypeople, things look like they're advancing quite quickly and especially since it's in the financial interest of many technologists selling you something to oversell their timeline to delivery. There's still A LOT of really difficult edge cases to program for - he's right to point out that general AI in robots is still a long way off and you're better off with the highly task-specific robots that are available on the market. Might it exist sooner than his projection of 50 years? Sure! But that wasn't the question - there's still a good chance general purpose androids powered by AI won't be commercially available to consumers until well after that breakthrough.
We'll probably be living in a Ready Player One reality before actual sentience is achieved in AI. But clever programming is going to cause a panic and people are going to try and slow the progression of AI and robotics before it's even really begun.
What’s most impressive about this robot is its facial expression and its interaction to movement via cameras. The upper body movement looks quite fluid too. However, it’s not intelligent like some people said. The movement and speech are all pre-recorded like chat bot. We’re still far far from achieving the real AI.

Save humans for the super human specific things where you have to really think about how to respond to and handle a situation, or for when the AI of a robot isn't enough.
Having the realistic face and expressions thing would still be helpful for humans with some things, because interaction with others of our species is so core to our neurological development.

Let's talk it out if you're so concerned.

The presenter felt so familiar to me and then I realised he looks like the small guy from Peep Show. A human version of uncanny valley.
The vocal technology for robots is still currently being developed as of now
I love this beautifully aesthetic, expressive, and attractive robot. Great job on movement, expressiveness, and avoiding the dreaded uncanny valley.
The fact that it's aware and understand then pushes him slightly.
The way it stared and smiled when he said "it has some artificial intelligence"
This is not going to end well guys
yeah not going to end well for you. You should blame feminists for making us this way.
@@KamakNeApiMalimawata okay now try to say something intelligent ?
Thanks to RUclips for recommended this to us! What a great technology
To watch in a video, it super cool! To meet one in the real world would be a bit freaky. The capabilities of AI are one step removed from human. In a robot I think I would be very apprehensive or intimidated. It would definitely take getting used to.
the expressions and eye movement are truly impressive!
Fascinating and freaked out simultaneously. As long as it has an on Off button I'd go near it.
Despite the fact that he is in a position to know best, I still predict that even he will be surprised by the exponential advances in artificial intelligence, robotics that will take place sooner than expected.
yes, it's not going to be 10 -20 years.
I can't wait to see that future
It is really exciting
In fact, AI is advancing way faster than Moore's Law right now...So I think you might be right.
Yep, totally agree with you. Probably in next 10-20 years they'll move like humans.
I loved the moment at 3:46 when he started to move his hand close to the robot's face and it looked a little bothered and looked back at him like "oh we doing this now? ". Also the reaching back??! Amazing!
can someone tell me does it hit you when you hit it?
noo
