Look for open doors that other people/the world gives you!! Open ended questions keep a convo going, and if you get an opportunity, identify it and take it! If someone gives you vr food, instead of saying "thanks" and going quiet again, gobble it down and make exaggerated expressions, maybe even bite their hand of lmao If there is a coffee machine in the world for example, make someone coffee! If there is a whiteboard, draw somebody, or draw a picture for someone If someone compliments your avatar, compliment theirs back! If someone says something about your avatar like "oh I love ketchup" like in the video for example, talk about your favourite sauces, and then ask them what their pair with Ketchup ALWAYS look for OPPORTUNITIES. These have helped me greatly.
I've recieved this advice before, it's great advice, but I do have to admit, it's easier said then done. Sometimes with me for example, my brain doesn't think that quick so I tend to go quiet without knowing how to react to what someone does. Then you over think it, and you say, no don't say that, it will just upset them, in your head so you sit and don't do anything. I have gotten better at it, but I've only really been exposing myself to that kind of environment for the past few months, it takes a lot of effort to get your brain to start making those quick reactions, even more so the right ones that don't upset people.
I still have almost no friends in VRChat, but to be fair, I rarely get on. Then I feel like I don't want to interrupt everyone's conversation. It's just awkward.
This guys speaks facts , I have 1,957 hours and only have 2 people I have add and they hardly get on. It’s so difficult to talk bec I feel ignored and I just sit back and just listen , wish I could just have cool people to vibe and shoot the shit with 💔
800 hours here, with zero people to show for it, its almost disgusting how many times i've made attempts to befriend people or get along in groups, only to be removed, forgotten, or saw as a nuisance for holding them accountable for not forgetting my entire existence and making attempts to be friendly in return to me, Your value as a human becomes nothing in Virtual reality since you're no more then colors and noises moving and speaking on their screen
@@RestrictedAccountt yes and, no when it comes to you being nothing as a human. The people that treat you less than human on vrchat you should avoid anyways and not be friends with those kind of toxic people, if anything its good to spot that out soon as possible. There are genuine and kind people on vrchat t plenty of them. Big thing is how you approach someone, also i've noticed its easiest to make friends with someone when they arent already in a group of people or if they are catch them alone for a minute and start with something simple like complimenting their avatar. Getting to know individuals instead of a group is the best way, you learn about someone's specific likes and dislikes, and if they sync with yours you become friends, rinse and repeat next thing you know they mesh well with someone else with similiar likes and before you know it you've got a circle of genuine people you can call friends.
I am a kid who plays vrchat. Honestly I may have social anxiety because I'm a LOT shy and scared that they might Kick me out? So honestly I don't speak a lot.
2:09 Just an FYI, putting your Index on like that causes strain on the cable because it gets squished between the face gasket. Best practice is to adjust the strap and put it on straight; though that is admittedly a bit tedious but even without adjusting the strap every time you put it on you can keep it a bit more straight and it'll prolong the life of the cable. Especially since Valve don't sell replacements directly so you'll have to go 3rd party or try your luck at steam support out of warranty.
I'm sorry I'm probably a shitty person. But I burst out laughing after the kid said "after he passed away" That shit was so unexpected. Poor kid, hope he's doing well.
My struggle with socializing is the only thing keeping me from playing VRC more often. It feels so silly to be so nervous when you can hide behind an avatar, but it is a very real problem for me. However, knowing there's others who feel the same way makes me feel a bit better about my own anxiety. Hopefully, I can learn to be more comfortable coming out of my shell. I know this video was made a year ago, but the advice still stands, so thanks for this! :)
I made most friends in a map called Sky Camp, it wasn't anything fancy, just some islands with a camp, a few tools and a floating raft. But most of the friends I played with frequently, I met there. And it was honestly really chill. People would join around the campfire and just chat (or chase eachother with shovels or axes) but nowadays it feels harder to do that kind of stuff. People already seem to know eachother as opposed to being a bunch of strangers in the same world, talking to about whatever they could come up with.
I remember that world! I made my first few friends there, sitting around the campfire and waiting for something to happen. It's a lot harder to find that vibe these days; I chalk it up to the game's popularity, but idk...
@joanofsharc Oh yeah absolutely! I had the best conversations there and now I generally just play games instead because worlds like the black cat just don't have the same vibe
To make friends in VR I go to the Great Pug, where all the crazy happens. I try to be myself and also join the crazy. Or create the crazy with funny avatars, and people eventually join in if I match their energy😂. Most of the time I try to make people laugh because that’s how I enjoy to play the game.
Im gonna be honest I didnt really think about this process until this video, and I am a serious introvert. I don't have any real issue with making friends on VR Chat but I do in real life, and I think that it is really dead simple and people overthink the process. Like, I coughed in a lobby and thet led to making a good friend. I exist in the world, I called someone out for acting like a child in a lobby when they were making fun of one themselves, boom spend 12 hours straight with them and get into a relationship. I play on a no tracker quest, but I use a lot of talking with my hands, its just what I do. I use male avatars, I try and avoid using revealing and e-boy ones. Ive been playing for like a month and I have 70+ friends on it, I don't get any impostor syndrom, and I dont friend anyone I dont intend on or havent played with for hours or have an immediate strong connection with.
i feel this heavily. i thought being in vr would let me express myself and like. not be awkward but that’s not the case, apparently, at least not for me
thanks for this lol it helps to know that I'm not the only one. I have had the quest for over a month now and I still don't have any friends and honestly, I'm feeling pretty down about it. I dont get how easy it is to do since everyone is established in their own clique at this point. I am on every night and I do approach people yet I am dismissed or ignored. it is also hard because most are underage kids, or even if they are teenagers or in their early twenties I get asked how old I am and then judged for being 30 like why is it a sin to be 30 and wanting to make friends in vr? ugh
You'd seem like a chill person to hang with in vrchat. Most of the people i meet that i actually talked to and got along with stopped playing like 2 days after i met them. I have no friends. Lmao
Honestly... When i first started out playing VRChat, I was so antisocial because of my anxiety But it grew on me to actively be more social for both the game and in real life. It was my own social development just playing a game like this and slowly develop social skills because there are some nice people you can meat who will be happy to help develop thise skills...sometimes. I guess I can also thank the world Audience Anarchy made by Jar for that boost into it as well. Being able to actively act out and read a script in a fun and hilarious way is a nice skill to build on. While this did help me, I know it doesn't help others the same way as I know everyone experiences socialism in different ways. This was just my experience as an ASD/ADD adult with social anxiety.
I tend to make my friends over Insta in the photography community, plus public rooms of loud randoms are terrifying! Everyone sounds like a hip-hop artist or corpse husband.
I’m a confident introvert. Whenever I feel like seeing random people, I public hop. If the place is a bust, hop again. I usually drop eaves around people until I can join the conversation. Its not that hard to make friends in Vrchat. You just have to enjoy talking to people. There really is so much to talk about. I routintely will join into other peoples conversations and then end up getting a bunch of friend requests. If you think that everything is already established thats just your anxiety talking. Theres always people in these groups who are meeting for the first time. When I was younger I used to have such a serious level of social anxiety that for years I was hardly able to leave the house. I learned how to love people, how to enjoy them rather than fear them and I believe this was the key that unlocked the door. I mentioned above that you just have to enjoy talking to people but understand that a lot of people don't but really WANT to learn how to enjoy talking to people. If your one of those people then use this as an opportunity to learn how to enjoy interacting with others, kinda like a sort of exposure therapy. You will relax eventually and everything will be fine :)

I recently joined vr and tbh I js talk to ppl like usually there kinda hostile and they be like ‘ who tf r u stop talking to us ‘ but its not even scary ti talk to ppl tbh cus im use to talking to a lot of people usually yea but sometimes idk what to say cus tbh most ppl on vr are way older than me and it feels illegal n u don’t talk abt the same things irl then on vrchat so when I talk like I talk to ppl irl it feels creepy like imagine going up to someone in vr and asking ‘hey what school do u go to?’ Like it’s not the same irl so I think talking irl is easier

I came back to VRC in Nov 2022 [had 15 hours in 2017 on desktop] and so far have 468 friends. Although I can only say 30-35 of them I'd actually want to join on lol most I'm sure are great people but due to drunken amnesia I don't remember a lot of the people I met lmao
Tbh, I wanna start playing VRchat so I can be Pomni and now I realised how anxious I am even on destktop, I'm js so insecure of my voice online I sound like a 9yr old help😭😭💀💀
for me i had a neko avatar , i just grabbed some toilet paper and throw it around while chilling with the administration of the bar world for a few days , told a few racist jokes and they liked it , then they added me to the administration of their discord server for some reason and i became a staff member , withouts even asking for it XD then one day i was doing drinks in a bar while being drunk irl , like uber drunk , then one guy started flirting with me "im a guy btw" so i flirted back i mean i was drunk af , so he added me and we spend time together , till one day we became more than friends (i thought i was straight O_O), i started talking to him with voicechat and he liked how i sound , now we planing on meeting irl . :no worries were both adoults and i know how he looks like
I’m pretty ok at making friends but I can’t find anyone my age😭 im a 15 year old girl and everyone is like 30 I meet this one “15 year old girl” I found out yesterday it’s a 26year old man like brooooo

yeah they always say “how old are you?” and they just get kicked

Dont be calling me out like that 😅
I came back to VRC in Nov 2022 [had 15 hours in 2017 on desktop] and so far have 468 friends.
Name of the thumbnail map?
for me i had a neko avatar , i just grabbed some toilet paper and throw it around while chilling with the administration of the bar world for a few days , told a few racist jokes and they liked it , then they added me to the administration of their discord server for some reason and i became a staff member , withouts even asking for it XD
then one day i was doing drinks in a bar while being drunk irl , like uber drunk , then one guy started flirting with me "im a guy btw" so i flirted back i mean i was drunk af , so he added me and we spend time together , till one day we became more than friends (i thought i was straight O_O), i started talking to him with voicechat and he liked how i sound , now we planing on meeting irl . :no worries were both adoults and i know how he looks like
I’m pretty ok at making friends but I can’t find anyone my age😭 im a 15 year old girl and everyone is like 30 I meet this one “15 year old girl” I found out yesterday it’s a 26year old man like brooooo
can we swap? I'm 23 and basically only meet teens lol
I wishhhh lol@@zlothika
THIS IS SO REAL!!!!! im 13 and everyone i see is like so old bro
Bro, i recently started playing vrchat in VR, and for some reason, everyone is racist now(??)
Best ways to make friends in vr is yell at the top of your lungs and say talk to me please I'm a lonely loser who needs a friend ez
Using the ketchup bottle and similar avatars may be offputting to a lot of people, because they assume you're 12.
I think me beibg 15 and having a young voice just makes socialising worse, it’s hard to talk in servers
Just play the blackout map come back and thx me later lol
People mock me for saying hi in vr rudeeeee
UwU
just get good at rust and stream you pvpi'ng
Watching this while trying to hype myself up to join a public world 🥲
ive played for 2 days now, i already go like 10 different people calling me a loser or something lmao, such a great community 🥲
