Thumbnail character is called Vega from Gear Senshi Dendoh, for the fellow men of culture out there *tips hat*
I like that you always have the title of the game you’re talking about on the screen. Very helpful.
I agree, that’s a really nice touch!
You voice coupled with the music and great narration is so soothing and enjoyable thanks for sharing that
Thanks Stylie!
Here in Mexico in the 90's, everyone had a PS1 with a modchip, so we can play all kinds of bootleg copies of every game in every region. Pepsiman was a huge hit with my family and friends, maybe sounds funny but is considered a classic over here.
Haha that’s awesome!
It was same in Indonesia, the largest country in South East Asia. Anime and Tokusatsu based games were mostly in Japanese, and quite popular in my generation. Yeah we played the bootleg copy on modchipped PS1.
Funny I lived in both countries. I have never seen a ps1, ps2, ps3, Xbox og and 360, and wii without hacks.
It's a shame that many of the ps1 CD readers are failing. My first ps1's failed and I could never make it work, then I bought a new one for 600 rupiah which also failed.
I will have wait until alternatives like psio become more affordable.
@@no.one.2 Not everybody wants to emulate their games.
Same in Venezuela, grew up playing Pepsiman hahah.
That first game was a killer start to this list, thats super impressive on almost every front.
It’s such a solid game. If you get the chance to play through it I highly recommend you do! 🙂
It’s like Deadly Premonition before Deadly Premonition.
@@JoshuaJacobs83 still disappointed with Deadly Premonition on switch.
The game runs like ass, what where they thinking?
Great games in todays video. Love this channel. Can vouch for Racing Lagoon. I’m currently 30 hours into it, and it’s, no joke, the coolest game I’ve played in 10 years. Not only does it hold up, it absolutely drips attitude and Japanese late 90s flavor. Truly a special game. Highly recommended.
Whoa, awesome to see you here haha, I was literally just watching one of yours and Serpentza's videos.
Thanks man! Totally agree, Racing Lagoon is just one of those games you can loose yourself in! Thanks for watching 🙂
@@mbe102 good stuff!
@@thatvideogamesshow you’re very welcome. Keep up the great content
One thing I can always count on with this channel is the introduction of games I have never seen or heard of. 😁👍
Glad you found something new 🙂
Great content as always, love seeing good games i wasn't familiar with
This list was probably one of your best in a while. There were a lot of good entries here, some I never even heard of
Thanks iShade! Glad you found something new to give a go 🙂
I'm always happy to see the Tales series get some love on this show. I actually liked the GBA version of Phantasia, but I agree that the PS1 version is better. I got myself a copy a while ago when I was trying to complete my Tales collection.
There are a lot of amazing JP games for PS1 and PS2 but will never get out sadly. Even if you know the language, it’s not the same
Oh my God! Such gems I didn't know anything about!! Many thanks for letting me discover them! Your content keeps getting better and better, man! ;)
Thanks Fabio! Glad you found something new to play man.
Great video as always, and great choices. Cheers!
Thanks Dark!
Another great video. Nice touch with adding the name of the game to the top of the screen👍
Thanks Des!
I have spent over a year of my life within the walls of a hospital, many of it has been spent ordering food from the cafeteria to my room and I have to tell you. Your opening music is the hold music for the food lines at my local hospital.
Idk why, but those mixtures about 2D Sprite Characters and 3D (vehicle/monster/objects, etc) models contrast are something I truly love, specially when it comes from the fifth generation consoles like the Ps1 and the Saturn
That minecart game reminds me vaguely of an arcade game I played called something something Magical Trolley Adventure, a game where these two anime kids had to outrun a train on a trolley, while simultaneously keeping balance. It was one of those cabinets that went the extra mile by actually having a trolley pump that two players needed to operate in order to play the game, only I don't think it ever properly worked, as me and my then gf would constantly lose. According to her though, after we broke up, they did fix it later, and though the trolley pump would be hard to replicate at home, I'm a bit sad they never released it for home consoles. I mean Taito released Battle Shark as part of their Taito Legends 2 on PS2, and that game's arcade cabinet originally operated with a real periscope.
I was disappointed when we didn't get that Tales of Phantasia remake and especially disappointed when we didn't get the Dragon Quest 4 remake which was even advertised in the back of Dragon Quest 7 as "Coming Soon".
Same here, the GBA version was so bad!
Great video(and thumbnail) as usual.
Btw, have you played Real Robots Final Attack? it's an arena fighter similiar to Virtua-On featuring some mecha like Gundam, etc.
Tear Ring Saga is actually developed by Shouzou Kaga, the creator of the Fire Emblem series, after he left Nintendo’s Intelligent Systems development team in 1999 so it's similarities with fire emblem is not puzzling
Very nice, I never heard of mad panic coaster. Gonna have to try it
Glad you found something new!
I remember wanted to play mizzurna falls and Aconcagua so hard back in the day ....
Something very cool about the simplicity of early 3D graphics.
Nice video dude, I subscribed
I recently purchased a copy of The Last Blade PS1 port. I find that it holds up well to the Neo Geo version, even with the usual shortcomings for 2D fighters during that time. Luckily the load screens are fewer and shorter than the Neo Geo CD version.
I’ll agree there it holds up quite nicely!
Except missing a lot of sprite and lower framerate
@@pftmclub That covers what I mentioned in regards to the shortcomings of PS1 ports of 2D arcade fighters.
Some other noteworthy Japan only PS1 games:
Cyber Org
Deep Freeze
Spriggan: Lunar Verse
Chocobo no Fushigi na Dungeon (English translation patch available)
Samurai Deeper Kyo
Tatsunoko Fight
Thank you for your awesome videos, keep them coming!
Thanks for the suggestions!
Your glamour shots of the subject console at the beginning of your videos are M-M-M, Oh so good!
Thanks man!
Amazing video, despite leaving frustrated not having found Front Mission 2.
Thanks Fabiano! Part 3 is in the works so I’ll include it then 🙂
Great video, but would you mind telling us who the busty masked girl is in the thumbnail? In fact, we'd appreciate it if from now on, you'd tell us the name of the girl's on your thumbnails in the description.
U deserve more views! Love it
What is the song intro please???
The world is not ready for Racing Lagoon. Plus for soundtrack.
I'm glad you added Tear Ring Saga here, I still think it's a lot better than the more recent FE games we've been getting.
love that tekken 2 opening song
Two things. One great video, as an avid collector and player of imports, even some of these I didn't know about! Also second, who is on the thumbnail. Research must be done lol
I have 3 PS1 console from the mid to late 90's, but the one I have with the ports on the back are said to be the best as it can be soft modded to play back ups.
You should look up the game *"TENEREZZA" for XBOX JAPAN*
I liked Tear Ring saga, it was made by Shouzou Kaga so the Fire Emblem stuff is heavy. In PS2 Berwick saga, the spiritual sequel, was translated so you if any you liked Tear Ring maybe you also would like Bereick.
My favorite quote from this video: "LSD is a good choice"
😅
Same
I love me some classic PS1 games .
i will have to try to pick some of these up for the PS1 collection .
iv got mizzurna falls on my ps1 classic
racing RPG im sold
Glad you found something new!
That's the best format for every video: straight to the point. No generic stupid introduction first.
Thanks mate, can’t stand that drawn out bullshit either!
I def need Jumping Flash 3 one day
11:03 say no more :D - btw check speedruns for lsdde, it looks like it has "ending"
Tear ring saga , no lo conocía!!
Man I miss street fighter alpher freugh
You know that Mizzurna Falls is set in a fictional world, because it is set in the state of "Corolado"!
Luckily The Last Blade came out on xbox one/series s/ x and ps4 and ps5 as a digital download. Still would've loved to have played it in ps1 though but I remember playing it in an arcade.
I downloaded mizzurna falls eng patch it looks really intresting!
Every negative thing you said about Pepsiman it's actually what makes it great. This game is the definitive 90s aesthetic
Mizzurna Falls....RIP Human Entertainment
The first game looks and sounds really interesting
It’s really good!
I'm familiar with both Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer Type 4, when I checked Racing Lagoon, I was impressed by its visuals. As far as I can tell, it's probably in the top 5 best looking games on the system, if not the best. The fly-by camera before the racing starts takes a hit in performance, but have you noticed that draw distance? I don't think this game has racing during the daytime, it's a shame. This game has a flaw, the collisions are basically not there, you hit guardrails or other cars, there's a sound and you are penalized by it, but there's no visual effect or physics in it, the Driver games showed how car collisions can be real on driving games, and it really hurts what is otherwise an impressive game.
You should also check Touge Max games on PS1, specially Touge Max G, I believe this one was totally inspired by Gran Turismo, it plays and looks really good too.
Since PS1 was heavily bootleged in the middle east I was able play most of these games. Pepsi man is and still an Icon in Saudi
Love me some Pepsis Man!
Me encantan esos juegos de la playstation 1.
😀Todo un mundo por descubrir 🎮
I watched all of your ps1 videos and you never talked about Brigandine, or its never-released-outside-Japan followup : Brigandine Grand Edition. Even though it has a cult following, both definitely qualify as obscure / hidden gems or simply among the best T-RPGs on the console. There was a new Brigandine released on Switch and PS4 one or two years ago, but it's not as good as the original sadly. I hope you'll mention it in a future video ;)
Thanks for the tip I’ll check it out!
@@thatvideogamesshow Great! Just one thing to let you know : the original game that was brought to North America was one of those games that read some music as CD tracks. And if you plan to try it on emulator, you might have the same problem as me and have terrible / crackling sound whenever they play, especially when using ePSXe... ...I wish I knew how to fix that (might be a "me" issue but I think I tried all possible configs). Anyways, it runs fine on a few other emulators. Besides, the Grand Edition (which was fully translated in english by fans) doesn't have the issue altogether. The music in it is completely different though, it is orchestral but the previous game's was more synthy. I love both soundtracks tbh. I'm also one of the few who really like the 3D cutscenes when units attack each other - they got rid of them in the Grand Edition but it has anime story cutscenes as well as a real final boss fight, something the devs of the original game probably didn't have the time to implement.
hi i need fid a game of ps1
I remember that the game was a racing game with a white nissan skyline and it was driven by a scientist, I don't remember well, it was also in Japanese
..most games listed here are either easy to play without knowledge of Japanese or has English Fan Translation..another awesome list bro ♥️🕒🎮
Thanks Axcel!
Amazing content as always but i suggest to put the name of thumbnail for pure research purposes :D
Hey mate, love your videos, if I could be so bold as to offer some constructive criticism, I think you should show some of the gameplay of each game with the sound of the actual game after each description, it seems like such a waste not to get the full feel of the games you've taken the time to record with the actual sound intact.
Cheers mate hope to see the channel grow!
11:04 "LSD is a solid choice" 🤣
Haha I’ve been waiting for this comment 😅
@@thatvideogamesshow You're welcome 🥂
Ayoooo shout out to the awesome people who translates this games so that we can experience this gems as well!
why the gear fighter dendou clickbait tho?
Racing Lagoon ❤️
One of the greats!
Look at "Expert" Doom style FPS! Also Japan exclusiv!
Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out!
from the games you recommend i'm guessing your a fan of KidShoryuken channel.
Cue Pepsi Man theme song."PEPSI MAN!" aaaaahhhhh
AYE. A nice Pepsi
Haha I was going to use the actual theme song but could see the old copyright system having a fit 😅
@@thatvideogamesshow would have been legendary but you're right about that.
@@zvgs9006 PEPSI
Tekken 2 theme is just 🤌
Such a tune!
@@thatvideogamesshow old school Tekkens had some banging soundtracks man, great channel btw love taking a look at obscure games to try out 👍
I'm so excited to play mizzurna falls
There's many Japanese games that still exclusive in Japan i hope someone translate Dragon shadow spell because it's really underrated game
It’s well worth playing!
So the character from the thumbnail is from what game?
LSD Dream Simulator sounds like the perfect game for Joe Rogan
Big ol bazongas
What is the anime in the cover?
I haven’t watched this yet but I know it’s gonna be better than finding a $20 in that jacket you haven’t worn in a year
😅
Pretty sure intelligent systems won a lawsuit against tear ring saga
I have LSD: Dream Emulator, it's my prize game of my whole collection.
Such a strange experience, but totally worth it!
HAH a video game modelled after Twin Peaks? Now that's my kinda game.
Such a solid game!
Do you know old PS game which you play a male character using long hand gun. One of the level you fight monster on top of a train and one of the boss is you fighting 2 white big wolf.
Racing lagoon is the craziest game ever, if you think jrpg and racing games can't have a child, well you are wrong pal, only this Square (no squarenix) could pulled this out, I do believe is a fan translated version somewhere....hehehehe give it a try is worthy, just imagine Squall with problem in his Toyota
Sucks that you didn't put Persona 2: Innocent Sin on the list.
Tear Ring Saga, also known as Fire Emblem PSOne.
Haha its a carbon copy!
@@thatvideogamesshow Looks like some Nintendo employee went out to create his own games
@@mikaelsza that's because it was made by Shouzou Kaga, the creator of fire emblem.
well, i will play LSD Dream Simulator while having LSD consumed.
Who's the character on the clickbait? xdxdxd
mizurna falls so ahead of its time
I’ll second that!
Many of these games have fan translation, doesn't it?
Who’s the girl in the thumbnail?
Vega from Gear Senshi Dendou
the female character of the thumb is from which game?
Vega from Gear Senshi Dendou
@@myco-ninja677 Thanks
Where’s Medarot???????????
Pepsi Man is the best game of all time.
I’ll second that! 😅
Someone should reskin Pepsiman so that it is Ronaldo delivering water to thirsty people. That would be ace.
😅
Tear Ring Saga's resemblance to Fire Emblem is no coincidence, as it was actually made by FE's creator, Shouzou Kaga. Nintendo actually went to court over it being far too similar.
niche games like this would have never sold in the west proven by the failure of the guardian crusader.
PEPSI-MAN
😅
Persona 2 innocent sin...
Him: "Lsd is a solid choice" 2 minutes Fbi: fbi open up someboiy sent us a clip of u saying this
😅🤣
The girl in the thumbnail where did she from please anyone
She's Vega/Orie Kusanagi from Gear Fighter Dendoh.
@@raidramon0 thank you very much for telling me her name thank you
I wanna know who's that yellow haired girl on the thumbnail
what is the name of the thumbnail girl?
Don't ever try LSD while playing LSD
That’s sound advice! 😅
@@thatvideogamesshow 🤣🤣🤣
Who is the girl in the thumbnail?
first lol
