Hi Melanie, I love your videos and especially in particular this one. This hat was the first project I ever crocheted and I ended up giving it to my father who died of cancer a few months after I gave him the hat. It wasn’t a perfect beanie by any means but he still wore it every day of his cancer journey. This tutorial holds a lot of emotional significance for me. Thank you so much ❤️

Okay.....I'm here in 2020(August) and just am in awe at the easiness of your teachings. So many of the RUclipsrs show a couple stitches and say "Okay, there you go." I think it's great that you really have paid attention to the Beginner Crochetter.....I have only made blankets in Crochet....intimidated by making hats, sweaters, etc.

I'm teaching myself to crochet, I only know how to make single and double stitches. My daughter ask me to make a slouchy hat and I search youtube for an easy way to make one and came across yours. Hi Melanie...I just started crocheting a couple of weeks ago. I watched a bunch of videos and learned how to single crochet, double and triple crochet. I figured I should start with granny squares and did a couple of dozen, but it seemed like it was going to take forever before I would be able to make something. I found this video and thought, why not. Oh, my gosh. Your instructions were so awesome and gave me so much confidence. I made my hat in one afternoon! I've learned how to crochet only blankets from my mom who learned it from my great grandmother who was blind and this was my first hat and it came out really well!! Smaller sized yarn but still very nice! Thank you so much for the video it was easy to fallow and very clear steps!!

This is a great tutorial, I made a hat instead of doing my homework, whoops! It only took me a few hours.
A tip if you hate single crochet like me is to make the band out of half double crochet. It looks very similar, and it works up slightly faster

Hi Melanie, I just Finish making my hat. I'm a beginner and you make the tutorial very easy. I didn't have a 5 bulky yarn so I double to skein of yarn together to create a thick yarn. The hat is thicker than yours and it's a little to big and bulky,but the head ban fits perfect. Thank you so much for your help😊
I have found on the band part going through BOTH loops on the first and last stitch helps make a stronger edge and helps keep the band from stretching out. You still get the rib effect but the edges are stronger and more even.

Hi Melanie!! I LOVE this beanie!! After I made 2 for myself, I've made about 15 for the female boxers at my gym. They have to run every morning and are training for the Chicago Golden Gloves currently. They are loving the hat. Love this beanie! My favorite one I have ever made! Very simple and quick too. I used patrons worsted weight wool yarn in Aran with a size I hook for the band. For the body of the hat I used a J hook. I did 9 stitches for the width of the band and 14 or 15 rows total for the body. I made a little Pom Pom with the yarn I had leftover. It’s perfect so cute, I love it thank you so much for the tutorial!
