The exact date is unknown (to me at least) but it was definitely written by Herrmann Löns who died 1914 in the war and he was in no way pious, religious. He converted 1902 to Protestantism, I think you can see it in this song.

It is similar to the Bavarian flag yes, namely because the league was centered around Bavaria and Southern Germany

@Ex Cathedra You are misinformed about this song. It was not written anytime close to the 30s war. The exact date is unknown (to me at least) but it was definitely written by Herrmann Löns who died 1914 in the war and he was in no way pious, religious. He converted 1902 to Protestantism, I think you can see it in this song.

It's at least possible, had he lived, the the War could have ended around 1634-35 instead of dragging on to 1648. You can always rely on the Irish to make things worse (note. Drogheda did not happen until 1649).

Yes you are right, even tho the use of "character" in this sentence seems like its used for a person not a personna, the meaning of the word character either stands for what you have mentioned or for a fictional person (such as someone from a comic, movie, book, show etc)
For example Stan Lee is a person

There is one exception tho character can stand for "a person seen in terms of a particular aspect of character", meaning an oddity in someone. Im not sure if this is for both real and fictional characters as im using wikipedia and it leaves most of it out, but ill give them the benefit of the doubt although they should have used person instead of character.
