Creaton Engine is pretty good, just look at the modding community. Unfortunately since Bethesda has been bought off the quality has been going downhill.
The age of the engine doesn't have anything to do with it, it's just horribly optimized and kinda clunky. Most game engines are really old. Unreal 5 is still a fork of Unreal 1 with shared code, Destiny 2's Tiger engine is basically the Blam! engine from Halo 1, which has just been iterate on for every Bungie game and then also Halo 4 and Halo 5. Halo Infinite's engine is based on it too, just with much larger changes and advancements. Doom Eternal's IdTech 7 engine is a fork of the IdTech 2 engine from Quake 3 which replaced the Doom Engine. IdTech 3 rewrote a lot of the original code but was still a fork of IdTech 2. Since then, every engine has been an iteration of IdTech 3, building on that original code base.

I remember Todd saying in an interview years ago that his vision for their next game (what later became Starfield) and Elder Scrolls VI wasn’t possible on the PS4 and Xbox One. I always assumed that meant a seamless world with no loading screens. It turns out Todd actually wanted to use the power of the current gen to pump out way more loading screens. Beautiful vision Todd!👍🏼
What's funny is it even IS playable on Xbox One. With Game Pass Ultimate you can cloud game it. Someone needs to tell Todd that not making it available on Xbox One isn't the same as not being possible on Xbox One.
A seamless world was still possible on last gen. No Man's Sky did it in 2016, and only about 20 people developed the game. No excuse for a large company like Bethesda to have hundreds of loading screens and limited area size

You know, I think this is the most accurate statement I’ve heard about Starfield. Cause like, it’s not a bad game, but it’s not what it was hyped to be and it SURE isn’t the kind of game I expect to be released on the latest consoles. It really does feel like a new old 360 era game. Better graphics, sometimes, but not anything we haven’t seen before.
Moreover, without any microtransactions it succeeds financially Who would have think the game could be successful without robbing it's gamers if it will be made aiming to be a great game, not great money source
...every major AAA singleplayer game gets praised. God of war, Spiderman, red dead redemption, elden ring, yakuza franchise, doom. The industry just plugs its ears and pretends we're asking for more live services
People are starting to catch on to this. I mean, it's been true for a while, but with the overwhelming success of studios like Larian, From Software, and Kojima Productions being able to find such insane levels of success and profit without "games as a service" tactics, I think (I hope) we eventually see more studios focusing on creating fun and memorable experiences rather than optimizing how much money they can extract from whales.

Hopefully this is the moment where he will start to reconsider his attitude of the past few years and realize that the industry is not the same now as it was during the 2000's and early 2010's
On Starfield's release, Todd made a post on Starfield's own subreddit where he said something akin to "we (Bethesda) always say we have gaming's smartest fans." HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE red flag. To me that just says the crew at Bethesda are too busy sniffing their own farts to acknowledge criticism. And if you want to say "c'mon man, that's just one comment! You can't draw a conclusion from that!" Go look up a speech on game design by Emil Pagliarulo. For those unaware, that's Bethesda's rather infamous lead writer/quest designer (Bethesda doesn't differentiate writer and quest designer) who isn't well-loved because...well, yeah, Bethesda is terrible at writing. And a lot of it probably has something to do with THIS guy who must be good friend with a higher-up or something, because he retains his position despite his infamy with gamers. Anyways, in his speech, it will become blatantly obvious to you that this guy can't write and he makes absolutely god awful points throughout it (or fails to make one period), and then at the end of this long, worthless speech, he addresses that people criticize his work and dismisses it with "but I can't hear them over all the money I'm making." And as a final point: why is their attitude towards New Vegas so awkward? Why do they always leave it out? Could it be New Vegas outshined their own work and they have difficulty acknowledging it as a result? It's speculation on the motive, but all I'm saying is it's undeniable their lack of acknowledgement of the game despite it's cult status is rather odd, and it sure would tie into this idea they hate hearing they don't make the best shit ever. Nothing about the presentation the higher-ups at Bethesda have ever shown us suggests these people actually listen to anything but yes men.

Starfield would've been much less of a let down if they didn't act like it was the best thing since sliced bread, and then surprise, surprise, it didn't deliver. They rely on the user base to mod out the issues they were too cheap to fix, and most of their games rely upon the "it's bethesda, we're studio giants" to take off. It's sad, really. what's really sad is that by how the game is constructed, Starfield will never have a resurgence, say like No Man's Sky or Cyberpunk. This is what it is. There will be incremental increases, some interesting mods. But by the how game is set up, biggest gripes we have with it literally cannot be solved unless they change everything from the ground up, basically making a new game. What a let down. Best thing it did was for pushing people to try Cyberpunk again. It did for me.

Because by some miracle people still think fallout 76 is worth playing. If people exist with that kinda palate, why not keep funneling garbage into the money printer? Of course, every game since ESII has been worse than the previous, but it wasn't until Skyrim that they became terrible.
Because everyone at Bethesda who makes decisions thinks the game IS good, and when people don't enjoy it they'll blame them instead. Sad. I remember playing Oblivion and it feeling world changing to me. The detail and innovation was so mind blowing to me. I couldn’t put it down. Now this is where they are at. It’s like they reached a formula that they thought they could ride forever. With the amount of money they’ve made on their franchises this really was an insulting cash grab. Oblivion was such a mixes bag. On the one hand it had a lot of new technologies, but on the other hand it had a lot of Todd's lies (radiant AI demonstration everyone? I don't think the issue with Bethesda is that they're trying to use the same formula to make some cash grab, I think it's more so they're ambition is a bit too great for what they're capable of, eyes bigger then their stomach if you will, I'm sure if this was another Elder Scrolls or Fallout the game would of been better, maybe, I mean you can never say for sure but I'd say a lot of the criticisms with starfield would be non existent with a game like those, don't get me wrong I'm not gonna defend all the seedy shit they've pulled over the years but I do think a big part of it was the scope being way to big for them to handle

You can pay a few journalists to give 10/10 to your game, but you can't pay millions of players to pretend that it's that good if it isn't. Sorry Todd :s.
It didn’t deserve a single award. Just because some Bethesda die hards have convinced themselves a decade old game being released today is somehow acceptable, doesn’t mean it’s award worthy.
You just don't understand Todd's perfect design. He's a real visionary who made a game with all load screens. That's innovation. The fact there was some kind of game under there, isn't his fault.
There must be an achievement in creating a cult of die hard fans for games that are the same each time, from gameplay, dialogue, world building and so on, using an engine older than many of the players buying Bugfield this year on their favorite shi tebox . The one and only, Toddddddd.
It's quite sad when I think about Oblivion... at this time, Todd shew so much passion on this game design and soul of this game. It's just sad to think he just... stayed at the same... state... without learning from other games. At a time, many developpers learned from Bethesda's game. But it's sad to see Bethesda doesn't want to learn from others. And that's how you obtain a game... just... ok ? Not even good or bad... just... ok.
Pretty much. I like asking my friends who play new Bethesda games what their favourite mechanic is in any given title. With skyrim it was the funny ragdoll shout, fo4 was basebuilding, starfield was space combat. Its never the RPG stuff, combat, movement or any of the foundational stuff that other studios hone their gameplay loops around for decades.
i think just being okay is way worse than being bad, because if something is bad it at least has the potential to be redeemed by being so bad it’s good. like Tommy Wiseau’s The Room. something bad enough to laugh at raises the quality of your life more than something that’s just okay.
Balders gate 3 is a punch to the face of all AAA developers. They'll have you believe that making quality products out the door is too hard, but balders gate 3 proves how much of a lie that is. Watching AAA devs rage over BG3 was so fun. EDIT: Lol cry harder AAA bootlickers. Starfield didn't deserve a single reward.

Creaton Engine is pretty good, just look at the modding community. Unfortunately since Bethesda has been bought off the quality has been going downhill.
The age of the engine doesn't have anything to do with it, it's just horribly optimized and kinda clunky.
Most game engines are really old. Unreal 5 is still a fork of Unreal 1 with shared code,
Destiny 2's Tiger engine is basically the Blam! engine from Halo 1, which has just been iterate on for every Bungie game and then also Halo 4 and Halo 5.

And if you want to say "c'mon man, that's just one comment! You can't draw a conclusion from that!"
Go look up a speech on game design by Emil Pagliarulo.
Anyways, in his speech, it will become blatantly obvious to you that this guy can't write and he makes absolutely god awful points throughout it (or fails to make one period), and then at the end of this long, worthless speech, he addresses that people criticize his work and dismisses it with "but I can't hear them over all the money I'm making."
And as a final point: why is their attitude towards New Vegas so awkward? Why do they always leave it out? Could it be New Vegas outshined their own work and they have difficulty acknowledging it as a result? It's speculation on the motive, but all I'm saying is it's undeniable their lack of acknowledgement of the game despite it's cult status is rather odd, and it sure would tie into this idea they hate hearing they don't make the best shit ever.
Nothing about the presentation the higher-ups at Bethesda have ever shown us suggests these people actually listen to anything but yes men.

There will be incremental increases, some interesting mods. Best thing it did was for pushing people to try Cyberpunk again. It did for me.

Exactly, the mod scene will never take off because this game is poorly designed

Uncharted worlds are large, barren, and any actual structures or locations frequently have copy pasted layouts. While the Mako is hardly the peak of gameplay, having some kind of vehicle to zip around these places makes a huge difference vs landing and then sprinting for several minutes in the direction of your quest marker. All that without even mentioning the setting, story, characters, choices, etc that Starfield has the blandest possible version of even without being compared to Mass Effect.

@@Jughandler12 no, the AA developers aren't raging because it won, they were raging before the game came out because it set "unreasonable expectations"
Yep 100% the investors and stock hold watch these events, they matter to management for sure. 👌
@@Jughandler12 I think you missed all the AAA Devs complaining about high expectations after Balder's Gate 3 released and blew everyone's mind.
BG3 also took over a decade to make, and we all know most people don't want to wait that long for sequels. And most companies can't survive a decade without releasing something. Bg3 was a unicorn game, likely won't see something of its kind again.
Can’t believe starfield got snubbed for best simulator game. It’s the best load screen simulator I’ve ever played
Yeah, like all of his games since 1994 :D
And I thought Mass Effect was a Loading Screen simulator, but than I played Starfield...
He really though he was him. But he's only Todd.
Surprised he even showed up. So damn confident that huge disappointment was going to win anything
They forgot to upgrade their PC that is all.
And now he got 16 times of dissapointment
@@margarethmichelina5146 Who's laughing now?
All hope for ES6 & FO5 is officially lost at this point.
I get ES6 but I don't understand how anybody could play Fallout 4 and have hope for Fallout 5.
@@SpadeDracobecause fallout 4 was a good game. It’s simple.
Xbox is going to push for these games to be shovel ware for Scampass even if they sell poorly.
@@axokrotus343 FO4 had 1 good DLC, fun gunplay and the settlement system was OK - everything else was mediocre as hell. Lore got butchered, 95% of the story was absolute trash, world-building was as deep as a puddle and it was as RPG as Call of Duty. Furthermore, FO76 and ESO are soulless, uncreative cashgrabs. I honestly see very little hope for FO5 or TES6, Bethesda's incompetence and laziness is just more and more evident with each new release. The mod community is keeping them afloat.
Lol can't believe what people are talking about. Was Skyrim ever really a good game? The only good thing are the countless mods that turn it into less Skyrim.. I stall 80+ mods like the average player until it's a different game entirely. They just need to make a good base and modular game that makes it easier for modders, Bethesda never made a good game themselves
