    This game is a blast! if you struggle in MMX, you should change your dash button to R1. Completely changes the speed of the game. Speedrunners do this, and I do too. It's 10x better that the A button. Thanks for the video.

      One thousand percent this. I think I picked up R-dash from "Tiny Toons: Buster Busts Loose" and it became a permanent part of my control setup afterwards. It makes movement feel SO much better.

    This game is clearly much more inspired by megaman Zero series. Grappling hook is just like zero's grappling hook, the customization armor menu reminds me of chip customization in Zero 3 and extra moves that enhance combat is just Zero EX moves. Gravity Circuit looks amazing. Also a game being short is not a downside. Its a design decision and for a game like this this is much better since you can replay it easily then.

      @@panthekirb7561 MMZ is already plenty good, tbh. I think the only things I remember not liking are that the little pistol is a bit goofy (but, I don't know, that's Zero, who cares about the pistol, lol) and that the Cyber Elves were all consumables you're incentivised not to actually use.
      Plus the Ranking system thing, but that was already a thing in like post 4 X

    Protip for Mega Man X: Map the dash button to R. I spent my childhood hitting A with the side of my index finger so I could stay on shoot and jump. I hope I never have to go back to that.

    • @MechaBouncer
      @MechaBouncer 5 месяцев назад +1

      This. After playing the MMZ games, having dash on a shoulder button made it much easier to hit simultaneously. It wasn't impossible, but you did have to hold your thumb across Y, B, and A (Nintendo placement) to hit all 3. It was necessary with the default controls because you really need to use all 3 at once. Taking your finger off of jump and shoot to dash is going to be a bad time. Having dash on a shoulder is much more comfortable.
      I love the MMX games and will still defend them, but the other critiques are valid. I've had Gravity Rush sitting in my backlog for too long. I had better give it a try.

    To me, the main takeaway I had that made this one of my games of the year for 2023 (alongside Sea of Stars) is the fact that it can match the speed and flow of the Mega Man Zero games. Kai's kit actually reminds me a LOT more of Zero's moves from X4 and the Zero titles compared to X, and that's always been my favorite style of play in Mega Man. I can reliably get the same "don't stop for nothing" mad dashes through stages in Gravity Circuit that I can in MMZ, quickly taking anything that gets in my way out in close quarters and feeling like I'm styling on what the game's throwing at me like I'm playing a Devil May Cry game sometimes.

    This is my favorite indie game of all time. Just an absolute blast all-around. Some free DLC has been added to the game since launch as well, so there's more content now, like collectible palette swaps that have unique abilities tied to them and an option to play with remixed harder stage layouts.

    While I hope this becomes the new standard for action platformers, I do think Gravity Circuit has a few problems, particularly with it being too easy to break its difficulty. The devs seem to at least somewhat agree as they continue to add in new modifiers or challenges with the intention of making the game more difficult. Gravity circuit excels in the customization but that unfortunately has costs. Overall loved the game, wouldn't call it a masterpiece on my end but certainly a terrific game that I hope more people play.
    Great game and great video. Glad others beside myself are shining a light on this game!

  • @thesnatcher3616
    @thesnatcher3616 6 месяцев назад +11

    Honestly, I felt that Gravity Circuit was modeled more after the Megaman Zero games(which built off of the skeleton established in X), especially in regards to the Speed based Circuit's stage harkening back to a stage in Megaman Zero 2 and how the game is also very melee, combo-focused with the utilization of your character's in-game kit(like the grapple hook that also doubles as a weapon) to make for more varied level design. The only thing missing is the balls to walls difficulty lol. You thought Megaman X was bad? Ooh boy. Megaman Zero will rip you a new one(although 1 is honestly hard for all the wrong reasons IMO), especially since Megaman X1 is considered to be one of the easiest megaman games.

    There was a semi recent update to this game that added even more modifiers for playthroughs that you unlock after beating the game. The most notable of these I feel are Master Levels, which revamps the level designs to become even more deadly, and Rude Enemies, which changes up almost every enemy and boss attack pattern to become more difficult and keep you on your toes. So if you were like me and felt the game was a little too short and wanted more from it, this makes for a really good way to replay the game and truly put your Gravity Circuit skills to the test.

    Bro, I love your channel and generally agree with you but I gotta say
    2:45 Is such a weird take. Like, yeah, you lack information when you boot up the game for the first time that you acquire by exploring, trying and failing at it. It almost sounds like you’re implying every videogame should come with a list of all secrets and where to find them and what the best strategies to beat the game are.
    Throughout the video it sounds like you’re trying to imply that this game is an improved and better Mega Man X which I wholeheartedy disagree with. Besides the fact that you’re comparing the fluidity of a 500MB game vs a game that came out on an SNES cartridge (which should have been around a couple Megabytes), this game is clearly meant to be a fast-paced steamroll through armies of enemies kind of game, which MMX just wasn’t. Hell, it couldn’t have been this kind of game if it wanted to because of hardware limitations.
    MMX is not meant to be a power fantasy, it’s challenging and requires the player to be constantly focused and aware of their surroundings.
    Even lore-wise it’s pretty expected for those I wil never forgive you for calling Robot Masters (/s of course, but they are technically Maverick Reploids, or just Mavericks) to kick your ass. Ar the beginning of the story X is not really anyone special, he’s a very early prototype that basically joins the equivalent of a police force. He just has a mega buster, which is basically just a service weapon to defend himself, it wouldn’t really make sense for him to have an arsenal of weapons and a plethora of power combat abilities.
    He technically wasn’t even made for combat in the first place, he was basically just Pinocchio.
    Gravity Circuit is definitely a great game, a high octane fast platformer with smooth controls and flashy visuals. But it’s not a better Mega Man X, because it’s not even what X was meant to be in the first place.

  • @danobra
    @danobra 6 месяцев назад +24

Most of them have been fun, but I pick them up once and never have a desire to play them again. I've heard some incredibly good things about this one though, so maybe I have it in me to pick up one more! Great review.

    However, so many of my favourite RUclipsrs are praising it that I will definitely play it. I've been yearning for a good new action platformer and despite that I am not the greatest fan of the Mega Man model, I would still take a great game like that over nothing.

      I just finished it. It was really, really good. I started New Game + immediately. I am glad your review swayed me. I am not sure how I missed it despite playing the demo. I felt it feels clunky and overly reliant on you to space out everything too precisely or whatever. I might not have been in the mood. Also, I believe my controller was playing tricks on me due to bad d-pad rubbers back then.
      Anyway, I feel this is the best Mega Man game I ever played (Shovel Knight not included, I don't consider it a Mega Man game entirely but if I did, I would have liked it more). I am glad you made this video.

No need to put it down like that, specially considering that was one of the 1st times we got fast-paced 2D action platformers.
    Anyways, Gravity Circuit deserves more praise and attention, it's a phenomenal game. Cyber Shadow too, I've been replaying it lately and it's even better on a second playthough. We have an amazing lineup of 2D indie games that carry on the torch of old classics.

    ..."Unless you know the boss order"
    ...like. That's...that's the point of playing a game the first time. You don't know. You take guesses. You learn. I'm sorry, did you want the speedrun record on a first playthrough?
    Like. I get you're hyping up some other game, but this argument here took me all the way out. Like. "Feels like an inside joke between developers and experienced players that I'm not a part of".
    I don't know what you possibly think those experienced players were before. But the fact is..they were new, they didn't know the "optimal" order, and they played and died and tried again and learned new things.
    This game looks cool, but don't try to say that Not Knowing The Optimal Boss Order Of Mega Man X is some kind of detriment to the act of playing a Mega Man game

    My problem with that game was the final boss.
    Once it goes to its final fase(which is similar to the second phase) it becomes downright unbeatable.
    I had to replay the whole game on lower difficulty because of the stupid final boss.
    I let a negative review about this game just because of this inconvenience.
    Who the fuck thought that it was good idea to give the boss a phase with a very small barely visible window where the player can deal damage?

    I've always been bad at Mega Man and Mega Man X games. Decided to give X another go earlier this year and I eventually did beat it but man, had no excitement to play x2 and on. I think you sold this game to me.
    Though most comments are saying this plays like MM Zero and I absolutely adored that series when I was younger. Now I'm double sold on this game.

    I can't wait to actually play it, I'll have to get it soon. The art is super cool, but I'm so ready for a really polished 2.5D X-type game.

    Oh my god, the beginning of the video describes me perfectly. I slogged through MegaMan Zero 1 and did beat it, but I was so worn out that I just couldn't bring myself to complete Zero 2, especially with how heavily penalized you are for having the gall to actually use your cyber elf upgrades, as well as getting hit more than a couple of times (no boss reward unless you get A rank or higher!).

    In Mega Man X, the games always allow you to remap buttons. I always had dash on L2. Makes the game WAY BETTER!!!

    It’s a shame this game doesn’t get more love. I literally got it for free from either prime games or epic I forget like 2 weeks ago. The moment I opened it and played my jaw dropped. I hope they paid the devs good for that bc realistically this should be mass purchased and downloaded (it’s that good) 😢
