I was 12. Even after all these years, when I hear this song, I flash back to sunset on a warm summer night in late August riding around Belle Isle in Detroit with my grandparents. It was the "Summer of Love" but there had been horrible riots. Although not everything was terrible in Motown back then.

I loved this song before I met my wife. She died in 1991. We had been married less than three and a half years. We lost 2 baby's to miscarriage and this song is going to go with me to my grave.
This takes me back to a time when people would have rather had a backyard bar be que for the neighborhood after working in the yard than sitting in a corner typing into a phone.

There's a song about Smokie, called "When Smokie Sings": It's by the pop group ABC, and pays homage to his exemplary Musical Genius and Lyrical skills. He has so many tunes that transport me back to moments in my childhood and adolescence....Love you Smoke!!
Smokey is a Boss Player that had major game and spit that was so smooth and and silky.Growing up in the 70's back in St.Louis he was the best of the best.I mean sure there was others that really good as well but I have to give Smokey Robinson the crown... Shout out to the Lou and and all the players and hustlers and the money getting ladies that hold us down the Show me state be with the business

I miss old black folk. I’m from Los Angeles and i’m 45 yrs old. When i was a kid many black folk were here in Los Angeles. They were from places like Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, and the South. They brought their American culture here to Los Angeles. Many of their communities here in Los Angeles are gone, gentrification, Mexicans took over many of their former communities. I miss them folks, all American they were, from the beginning of the 20th century to mid 20th century when I knew them in the 1980’s and early 90s. They r mostly all gone now, moved out of state bsck to their original states or dead now. I will always remember black America here in Los Angeles, the coolest folk from the early to mid 20th century. They don’t make them folk like that no more.

I consider this his greatest song! The history of it is that he wrote it in dedication to his wife who had a miscarriage of twins and felt she had let him down! This song was to let her know that his love could never waver because of what happened and that it would actually be stronger than ever! Such a powerful message and the genuineness of it is so inspirational!
Didn’t know that… what a back story! It does explain a lot, because-needless to say- the song is sublime in its sheer beauty and level of inspiration 💟
One of my VERY favorite songs and the arrangement is just perfect, starting with the piano and bass intro, then right on through. The chords, the orchestration, the vocals -- everything. Been listening to it since I was a love-sick 15-year old in 1968 and it still grabs me.
Smokey's ex-wife Claudette said that he wrote this song for her when they were going through the heartbreak of multiple miscarriages. It's too bad that their marriage didn't work out,but it was beautiful tribute to what they had at that time.
I ponder that line and wonder (I believe in reincarnation) how that would play out over 100 lifetimes of a person having that much love and trust and faith in another.
Smokey wrote this song after his wife Claudette had suffered a couple of miscarriages, and she was feeling guilty for having "let him down." He wanted to reassure her that she hadn't let him down, there was nothing to feel guilty about, and his love for her was lasting and real. This one came from the heart.
I didn't know. I only got a phone in November and got a new car. I'm 68 and coming out of the Stone Age. Thanks so much for that information. I didn't know. That makes this song even more special to me. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SMOKEY!!!!

Smokey was one of the main sources of Motown's hit songs; the others were Stevie Wonder and of course the songwriting teams of Holland-Dozier-Holland, Norman Whitfield-Barrett Strong ("I Heard It Through The Grapevine"), and occasionally Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. I think Marvin Gaye too wrote his fair share of hits for Motown (or Tamla, whichever).
Thanks Larry! A group of us were invited on a trip to see Smokey a few years ago in Vegas!! Smokey has not lost a thing!!! His voice is still as smooth as silk at his age! He was taking requests from the audience and everything! It was a night to remember!
I truly appreciate my older cousin. Who would buy 45 records and let me listen to them. At a young age he introduced me to Motown, and all their artist and taught me how to play an electric guitar. He had house parties and girlfriends taught me hand dancing. Those songs were great!
I remember back in the early 70 s we had a group and I used to write songs .....I always wanted to write songs like smokey that made sense . My band members always said nigga you know you didn't write that. It took a while to convince them that I actually did......but the thought that they thought my writing was so good they couldn't believe I wrote those songs actually flattered me .
I fell in love with Smokey at the age of 9/10 my brother use to listen the radio at night and one night the Miracles came on with Smokey singing “ Swept for You” “ The first time that I saw you, you stood out from the crowd, looking so good and walking so proud. “ Love at first sight and I knew I would love anything Smokey sung and I do….. he brings Love to Life with every song❤❤❤❤

I LOVE SMOKEY ROBINSON AS A SOLO ARTIST!!!! THANKS FOR THE MUSIC ! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!!! LOVE OLIVIA!!!
Smokey, you are better than Elvis, you changed my musical appreciation in 1968 until present day. I am drumming in a newly formed Mo Town band and loving it. God bless you, you are a gentleman and cg?changed music forever!♥️🙏😎🥁🤘
My My My... I was a young 14 year old teenager when this played on the radio back in the summer of 1967. What a time for pretty girls, muscle cars, picnics, and house parties. I had a crush on a girl who didn't even know I was crazy about her. 1967 was a great year.
There are no words to describe growing up in the sixties. it was a musical Renaissance, never seen before or again. It brings tears to my eyes , nothing can compare to it or ever will.
I feel the same way. My heart yearns for those magical childhood pre teen years and the beautiful era we became aware in. The feeling in the air that existed in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s will probably never pass the worlds way again. Even with the trauma and tragedy of the 60s up to the mid 70s we still produced the feelings and vibrations of LOVE, of which will always conquer.
I don't care who covered this song, it could not possibly have the Beauty and emotional level that the Original Smokey Robinson and the Miracles bought to this very heartfelt song.
I had the privaledge of catching Smokey Robinson & The Miracles live at "THE REAGAL THEATER" in Chicago, during the summer of 1967 I was only 12 years old but I was in "HEAVEN".
Charles Drake I had the privilege of seeing the Miracles at a Motown Review in Washington D.C.in 1965 when I was 11 years old. My mother and I had stopped in D.C. to visit some of my relatives. We were on our way to the New York's worlds fair in 65. But the best time I ever had (with my clothes on. LMAO) was in 1965 seeing the whole Motown Review from about 9:00am to about 8:00pm at night for only 75 cents. I saw all the Motown stars. I still cherish that memory to this day and I am 61 years old. OOOOPPPPPPS I guess I am telling too much on me. LMAO.
Oran Payne Don’t at all be ashamed, I too , have a Motown Review story. Although you may have a few years on me, we didn’t have to go far to see the what people referred to as the “ Rock and Roll “ shows. Since the now closed Uptown Theater hosted all the top acts, my mother would treat us to what working people probably could not afford to see Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell , the Marvellettes, Stevie Wonder and as you know, the list goes on. But this theater was in our neighborhood, so we’d walk there to catch it. What a show!!!

I remember this song back in the summer of 1967. I was almost 15 years old but I remember this girl I had a crush on. You are so right about todays stuff if one considers it music. Back then it was good to be in love with that special someone. The music, the nice big cars, holding hands and stealing a kiss or two, picnics, drive-in movies, Street drag racing, no stupid drive bys or car jackings. And last, people had respect for each other. I sure miss those times.
@@geegon50 You better believe it. Today songs, respect and everything else is now gone. Not sure what happened but no one seems to care anymore. I want my 60's back.
My all-time favorite song of all the Motown groups. Smokey killed it. You can feel the love for his wife, Claudette. One of the miracles group and only woman.
These were the best of times. The magic that was Motown. Smokey's smooth vocals and poignant lyrics, the harmony of The Miracles, James Jamerson on bass. Doesn't get any better than THIS!
Smokey and the Miracles always reminds me of my older brother. He used to put this on as he was getting ready to go out on the town. Took him forever to get his look just the way he wanted it. He's gone now but whenever I hear this song or any Smokey song for that matter, makes me think of him. Thx so much for this!!! ❤
For music .....the 60 s through the 80 s was the best time to be alive. Not just motown .....but music in general. Yesterday's classics can never be duplicated. I wish most of the musicians could re release all of their music.
Just saw him 2 years ago in augusta, ga!! YES he's still sounds Fabulous at 82!! He said he's learned to speak Spanish and wrote a song to be released in Spanish. He sang it for us that night and I had Smokey fever all over again!!! It was the gift of a lifetime for me from my girl's!!!!
What a true treasure and talent Smokey was. His distictive voice cold easlity be recognized and you just knew a great song was coming. God Bless Smokey and all the other lost talents.
Just that opening piano riff combined with those great sounding drums hit me with an impact as a kid, and it still hits me the same way all these years later.
One of the greatest performor's , song's.....love Motown....some of the first music my little ears ever remember hearing, born Dec 59....love this, if you don't like this you just have no SOUL or EAR'S....
there's some good hip-hop but this is the best of the best in Smokey ,The 4 Tops, Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Barry White, Isley Brothers and so forth.
I grew up on a farm in southern Missouri absolutely idolizing the Motown acts and Motown music. After graduating college in Missouri, I moved to Washington, DC to start my career. That summer of 1971, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles played the Carter-Barron Amphitheatre, and I finally got to see Motown legends in concert. Mr. Robinson and the Miracles were wonderful that night and forever. I have been able to see most of the Motown acts, some many times. They never disappoint -- the music is always sublime.
I was in Junior high and we had real boyfriend-girlfriend romances because of these types of songs from the 50's and 60's; now we have The Weeknd love songs ummmm sweet

This song has inspiration when you know he wrote it to his wife to show his appreciation for her in light of all the miscariages she experienced throughout their marriage.Probably my favorite song from the group.
When I was a teenager my dad would tell me to turn the radio down.

True beauty in his voice.
lonetreug8 amen brother.
This song captures the beauty of love on a recording disc
I love all his songs. I can listen to them all-day ❤❤
My all-time favorite song of all the Motown groups. Smokey killed it. You can feel the love for his wife, Claudette. One of the miracles group and only woman.
This was my wake up for school music. Mom knew how to get us up in the morning. Thank you Mommy❤
These were the best of times. The magic that was Motown. Smokey's smooth vocals and poignant lyrics, the harmony of The Miracles, James Jamerson on bass. Doesn't get any better than THIS!
Truly one of the best songs ever written. !!!all others fall short! Smokey poet extrodinare !
All others fall short
Samuel Hunt say that!
"This is no fiction, this is no act,"- my lil 14 yr old first time feelin heart would almost burst!! for REAL!!
makini t.tate 'm
The harp, the horns, and Smokey's sweet, ethereal voice. Absolute perfection!
The string arrangements are sublime, and the impeccable bass work by James Jamerson is often overlooked in this song.
I literally wore out this 45 record
MY FAVE TUNE OF ALL TIME 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Gonna take more than a hundred lifetimes ✊

Smoky one of the Icons who DOES deliver MORE LOVE and more joy!! God bless him!!
The poet laureate of SOUL.....Smokey!!!
Definitely. No one can touch Smokey!
Such a beautiful song. It pulls at my heart strings.
You know are a superstar songwriter when you have enough songs to make you and others superstars.
I have played More Love over and over in the last few years.
I am glad I was born at this time.
Me too!
For music .....the 60 s through the 80 s was the best time to be alive. Not just motown .....but music in general. Yesterday's classics can never be duplicated. I wish most of the musicians could re release all of their music.
me too
Love Smokey! We grew up in the 1960’s listening & dancing to his songs!
I grew up in the sixties also. Lately I have been playing the hell out of More Love.
One of the best masterpieces from Smokey Bill
One of my many favorites from Smokey and the Miracles.
Just found out they wrote this for Cloudette when she suffered 4 miscarriages. So beautiful!
+ToeIn2194 Hard to believe that when Smokey was a womanizer
It's true, it's in his autobiography Love Smokey.
ToeIn2194
Yes I read this too in his autobiography
Oh wow I never knew this...WOW!
And then he left her for another woman.
Smokey is infinitely brilliant!!! His version of Love cuts me too deep. We are all blessed by GOD with pure Smokey
One of my favorites because I'm such a lover of meaningful lyrics.

After all these years, this is my fav "Smokey" song ever! (&I have lots!) Still gives me chills! Love you Smokey!!!
Exactly how I felt and treated my late wife. She's been gone 13 years, and I still feel that way.
He’s absolutely amazing!!!
One of my biggest regrets was never seeing him perform live. 😢❤
He's still performing, so be on the lookout!
Smokey and the Miracles were my favorites when I was a teenager. Beautiful voice, beautiful song!
The "Poet Laureate" of Motown!!!
What a true treasure and talent Smokey was. His distictive voice cold easlity be recognized and you just knew a great song was coming. God Bless Smokey and all the other lost talents.
Sweetest voice. He wrote this for his wife after a miscarriage!! Great man in every way. They don’t come any better. Pure class act.
Just that opening piano riff combined with those great sounding drums hit me with an impact as a kid, and it still hits me the same way all these years later.
Brings back my teen years and so many memories...I am 66 and Smokey always makes me feel like a kid again whenever I hear his old songs.
One of the greatest performor's , song's.....love Motown....some of the first music my little ears ever remember hearing, born Dec 59....love this, if you don't like this you just have no SOUL or EAR'S....
This song was written with beautiful, heart felt and meaningful lyrics! Motown would not have been as successful without Smokey Robinson.!
The days when Smooth was Smooth and Slick was Slick, long before that hip-hop $h!t
there's some good hip-hop but this is the best of the best in Smokey ,The 4 Tops, Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Barry White, Isley Brothers and so forth.
Awesome One all your music Smokey is the Shit of your voice. Keep it coming.
Real Talk.
Hip hop had some good songs too na back then, dont get it twisted lol
More Love was on the first album I ever bought in 1967, Make It Happen for $2.95! I bought the record before I had a record player!
u sound like me Myron. record player. some would laugh at that but don't care
lol...That was the way back in the day. You'd buy records and become friends with the dude who owned a record player.
Yes indeed
Hell, I thought it was just me! lol
I LOVE it! LOVE it.
A beautiful song, I love the lyrics.
16 in ‘67, More Love, still my favorite Smokey song
🎼🎶🎵🎤”A Heart that’s TRUTHFUL; And Keeping it YOUTHFUL With,
MORE LOVE!”❤️Smokey, the MASTER POET!👑❤️
Smokey was a true poet, his lyrics are timeless.
The greatest music ever recorded.
Some of the best “romance” lyrics ever. Also kudos to Kim Carnes for creating a cover just as powerful as the original.
One of my favorites from the summer of 67. I was 14!
Just heard this "classic" on the radio. Wow! I loved it bzck in the "day" love it as much now in 2021 Smokie is the "BEST" ♡♡.
My 56th Bday today. Smokey fills the soundtrack of my youth.
It'll take about a hundred lifetimes to live it down
Oh Smokey lm crying now.. Genius xoxo
weird... How could someone not like this?!?
James, some people have no love or joy! Now, that is sad!!
you have to have emotions to love this music!!!
there are allway knuckle head's ,that don't know Music ,when they hear it.
some people ,just are crazy
I was in Junior high and we had real boyfriend-girlfriend romances because of these types of songs from the 50's and 60's; now we have The Weeknd love songs ummmm sweet

Pure poetry from the poet laureate of Motown, backed by the genius that was the Funk Brothers. The beauty of this song brings tears to my eyes still!
I WASN'T BORN WHEN THIS WAS MADE .. I LOVE IT AS IF IT WAS FOR ME🥰🥰🥰😘🥰🥰🥰🥰😍
As usual nobody paints a picture in song like Smokey....so many layers.
This song has inspiration when you know he wrote it to his wife to show his appreciation for her in light of all the miscariages she experienced throughout their marriage.Probably my favorite song from the group.
A great song by a musical genius.
