Glad you enjoyed this Sarah and you went with the version Beast over Hammersmith 1982. This is probably Iron Maiden's most well known song. It tells of a man that is about to be put to death and the stages you goes through, like the 5 stages of grief. I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. Iron Maiden is: Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 64 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 66 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 65 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1990 - present Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 70 years), 1982 - present The next songs I'd recommend when you get around to Iron Maiden again are: Iron Maiden -- Phantom of the Opera (Live at the Rainbow 1980 - with first singer Paul DiAnno, Rime of the Ancient Mariner(Rock in Rio 2001), Fear of the Dark (Rock in Rio 2001), Alexander the Great w/lyrics, Flight of Icarus (Official video), The Clansman - (Rock In Rio 2001), The Trooper (official video) as well as any of the ones listed below. Highlight of songs and what they are about that I'd recommend are: From Iron Maiden album------ Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden) From Killers album------ Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder) Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming) Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive) Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer) Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible) Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem) Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings) From The Number of the Beast album ------ Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion) The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s) 22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot) The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2) Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers) Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through) *** You did this one. From Piece of Mind------ Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God) Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus) The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War) To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert) From Powerslave------ Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII) 2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner) Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain) Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage) From Somewhere in Time------- Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted) The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great From 7th Son of a 7th Son (a concept album)------ Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares) The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated) The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers) From Fear of the Dark------ Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad) Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one) From Brave New World------ The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us) Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death) Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley) Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams) Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet) From Dance of Death------ No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation) Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance) Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI) From A Matter of Life and Death------ Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age) The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion) Out of the Shadows (About being born)
no way you didnt include “for the greater good of god” and “these colors dont run” from matter of life and death. Those are the best songs in that album
Back then, if you couldn't perform something on stage as close as you could in the studio...you didn't have an audience. These guys were amazing in concert. I got to see them during their 'Live After Death' tour, and it was an amazing experience.
I saw Iron Maiden live in concert in Charlotte, NC in the year 1985...the statement . "They be Jammin" would be a vast understatement..One of the greatest metal bands of all time.
8:19 for a minute or so you explained it so well. That's how I listen to iron maiden every time even after all these years and it still brings out those emotions. I get so lost in it. Iron Maiden are my life force
Listen to Iron Maiden’s “Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner”, “The Trooper”, “Fear of the Dark”, “Wasted Years”, or anything off of their Flight 666 tour. The lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, is also a world class fencer, author, and pilot. He flies their airplane on tour. The soundtrack of my youth! Love Maiden!!!
I was in high school when this tour came through, caught the next which seems identical in terms of performance!!! Maiden ROCKS live!!! I'll never forget it!
Sarah, yeah that’s what it’s all about and I’m telling you this is a 1982 live recording and it’s amazing, and you are amazing and beautiful. Thank you Sarah, please do more Maiden
I was a teenager when this stuff was popular. Grew up on it. Even though I'm an Athiest..always have been.....I find this story a beautiful example of what comfort one's faith can....and should bring. That's the moral of the story as I see it. Death is near, but he believes it's not the end. His soul will carry on.
Knowing he's about to die, the five final stages of grief run through this man: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. At the end it's desperation. For me it was never really about faith per se. It's awesome how we can interpret it all in our own way. 🤘
I grew up with that....and it still gives me chills....and the best thing about it: I will see them LIVE again next Year.....try that with one of the nowaday-autotune-casted-bands........this is the Real Deal. Up the Irons !
Hahaha! Your reaction was Spot On!!! This 58 year old metalhead saw Maiden last in October 2022. I've seen them 20+ times live and they hit it as hard today as ever. UP THE IRONS!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘☠
There was a study done back in the early 2000’s that says heavy metal and classical music have the same affect on your brain . And the correlation in the music structure is very close. Lol that’s the best way I can describe it , it was a long time ago I heard it
it is indeed very true, I play classical violin and bass guitar and love both classical and metal, and they are VERY similar in structure, from and musicality
Glad you enjoyed it! I had the pleasure to see them perform last summer in Barcelonam and I'm looking forward to see them again next summer as well because hey were amazing.
No doubt, they played the wheels off that song there, smashed it, tore every piece of frickin' fur right off it. Last I heard it was spotted wobbling around on bare rims, without an ounce of fur on it, and absolutely crushed to beejeezus.
Dear Sarah, the best way for you to really appreciate this iconic band is to refer to the live albums, Life After Death, A Real Dead Live One, Death On The Road and so on. They are great in studio, but it's in live shows that they excel. You stand at the edge of a very deep rabbit hole with 40+ years of excellence in heavy metal music. As long as you keep reacting to live songs you will not be disappointed. Happy New Year, and keep doing great reactions. UP THE IRONS!!!
Try some Rush, La Villa Strangiato or Black Sabbath Into the Void. Your understanding of becoming absorbed by the music is right on. I've seen IM in concert twice.
Clive burr was like a machine . Just pure perfection. Love 70s 80s live albums. Thin lizzy - live and dangerous, ufo - strangers in the night, maiden - life after death, scorpions - worldwide live . Have to add slayers - decade of aggression even though that cane look ater.
Nice!NOW your eyes (and ears) are open!Your journey to become a Maiden-Maniac-Metalhead has begun! It only takes one Maiden Song to change your life forever!...been there! Forget about all the other stuff..NOTHING is like Metal! NOTHING is like Maiden! 🤘 UP THE IRONS!!! 🤘
If you DO want a relaxing song by them, " strange world" from 1980, is about as soft as they get. It has a different singer, who was with them from 1978-1981
I saw them here(Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) in concert back in October. They are now in their 60's, and 1 member is early 70's if I am correct. Let me tell you, they can STILL kick A$$ live. Legend says that the faces in the crowd that day are still melting.
This was recorded 40 years ago, no pro tools or autotune. This is 5 great musicians crushing it.
They’re still going today, dropped their latest album last year, got another tour set for next year! Great reaction.

Iron maiden is one of the bands one could argue most of their live versions are better and more popular then their studio version. Fear of the dark is another one with well done story telling along with many tempo changes to keep you amped up.
My little bro had Eddy posters on his wall.
I prefer the first two albums because I was into punk, but this my favourite song with Bruce singing. 🏴
