Thank you for this idea. It looks like they love the water idea. I can see giving them a way to grab onto the surface would please them - I will remember to sweep my cement so it has texture for them to grip. I can see the logic of having just a little water flowing over the surface since they are so small and extremely prey animal motivated so they need to be able to fly off in a second. I love your ideas.
After seeing this video last year I just had to make one! I looked all over for a child’s ball and could not find one. So I went to Home Depot and purchased a small glass light globe for just a few dollars. Doing the same as you, filling it with concrete. I waited until the next day. Covered it with a towel and gently cracking the glass off with a hammer. It worked!! Now I have a concrete ball fountain just like yours that the birds love!🥰
Great idea Thank you. You can vibrate the cement with a cheap vibratory sander and wetter it fine for the cement. Just takes a little longer to cure. Cures best under water after setting. Change water to avoid lime burns for the hummers for about 3wks.
Amazing video! Your so creative! I love the ice cream bucket with chocolate bottle pouring water🎉totally unique goodness! Thanks for sharing your garden with us!❤
What a neat idea ! I went to Walmart and bought a small ball to make one too . To fill the ball a bottle cut in half neck side down) works as a great funnel. Thanks !
Love this! There is something about the water running over the ball that is so peaceful and beautiful! You made that all from scratch and best of all you made it achievable project for someone like me. Thank you!
I've been watching you for over a year now. I usually dont comment though. But today I felt compelled too. I love your sweet soul Robbie. You make gardening look so easy and fun. I love your humming bird fountains 🤣 they make me want to be a crazy bird lady lol...much love always
Honestly , I could be having the worst day and I come here and watch the footage you have of the hummingbirds bathing in your baths and it just warms my heart ❤️ and all is right with the world again.
Best 9:26 minutes I have spent today, thanks for the smile on my face- Got my solar fountain works but no tubing yet- Still time, Humming Birds show up on Mother's Day
Robin when I made my humming bird ball I used hot glue gum in side of the mold and then put concrete in in after u get done just pull off the hot glue make Swirls with the hot glue U will Ike I good luck with the next one thanks for sharing the videos
I got my solar fountain kit from your ebay link. We set it up in the pond, on top of a bunch of rocks and then used a tray from a terra cotta pot as the "bath" area. The water trickles down some smaller rocks into the tray, and then on in to the pond. Such a cool thing to see the birds have a NEW bath inside the pond. Thank you for sharing this idea too! Now to order another fountain kit.
Oh my goodness, I LOVE this idea! I'm gonna look around here and see if I can find a ball. I have a solar fountain set up for the hummingbirds in my one garden, but they haven't come back here to PA yet. I'm ready! Thanks for this, Robbie! I LOVE it!
Robbie i have known you from years ago with frank and was so thrilled to see your videos they are wonderful and I hope you continue with them there is so much information and I have learned a lot ann s birds
Watched your tote garden & subscribed. This hummingbird fountain is next. Weather isn't quite right yet for it in Central Ohio. I got a hummingbird tattoo in 1980 before they became a 'thing'. Always wanted one when I was a kid & finally did it. Thx so much for sharing your wisdom. God bless. 💥
I am in central Ohio, and agree, almost time for them, getting everything ready. I have had them show up as early as April 20, but usually closer to the 28th (been logging their appearances for about 18 years). The feeders are clean and waiting. This water feature for them sounds great, has me eyeing possible locations and materials I already have, or might need to find in the Near future. Good luck with your projects and birds!
Robbie, you amaze me! You’re like a mad scientist and the hummers sure are glad, and so are your subscribers!!!! I know I am!!! I can’t wait to see what you have dreamed up next! You are Gods gift to us...Thank you so very much! Love , Your fan from south Atlanta, Ga, Rhonda
My Solar water pump is being delivered today and I can make my own hummingbird bath. I’m so excited!!! Thank you for the inspiration, I’ve already purchased my other items from The Dollar Tree. 😍😁🥰 The birds and bees will be so happy.
I recently seen someone do this with a basketball, but that was a little bigger than I wanted. So this will definitely work, just the right size. Thanks for you input. Have a great day✨✨✨
Hi again Robbie, Gary, I just viewed your site about your 1st Hummer "bath ball"& was encouraged to make some too. May I make a suggestion for "Compacting" the concrete/mud, consider using a 1/2",1",1-1/2 or 2"×2" or Sq. or Rd. "tamper" wooden Dowel or scrap pcs.of lumber; a few inches longer than the Dia. of your ball;in place of your spoon. Your projects are awesome 👌! A Subs./fan.
You are so incredibly creative and talented! You have inspired me with my new passion of hummingbirds :) I especially love all the unique fountains you create and I recently got my materials to make one myself. Thank you so much and always look forward to all your videos :) ~Happy Humming~
I just went and got me a little basket ball can’t Waite to make me mine I’m so excited to make it thank U Robin for the information love all Your videos can’t wait for the next ine
I just love your videos Robbie. I purchased a new house last year and was determined I was going to have hummingbirds. That's when I found you. I noticed in one of your first videos I watched how all the hummingbirds just loved the round ball you had in your garden so decided to try to make one of those. I used a round decorative glass bowl from dollar tree, added the cement and a wooden dowel through center. Once the cement set up I just broke the glass bowl. The dowel was a little bit harder to get out than your reed you used here in this video as I had been reluctant to use any type of lubricant on the dowel prior to its insertion into the cement. So anywho I just used a screwdriver and a rubber mallet to tap it out. I also have one of the fountains you made with a paint bucket and lid. I made one of the round cement balls for the top of that as well. I love how clean the water stays since it is an enclosed system and how long I can go without having to refill the bucket. I love how much you love your birds and care for them and by sharing your ideas help me to do the same.
I just ordered a solar pump from one of your links in the description box. I have been watching diy birdbath videos all day, trying to decide which one I want to make first. This one definitely convinced me the cement ball is the way to go. My dogs deflated a basketball, so I am going to use that. I love the small indentation on yours, which allows the hummingbirds to sit/lay on that part and get a bit more water, even though it's a very slight indentation. I am pretty excited to make this, this weekend. It's still a bit chilly here in WV, but the hummingbird feeders are out, and soon they will have an awesome bath too. Thank you so much for these very informational videos!
You have THE BEST ideas for inexpensive and super easy DIY fountains. I have been inspired so many times. I'm continuously inviting hummingbirds and other pollinators to my garden with inspiration from your creativity. Thank you, thank you for sharing these videos!
I just loved this video on round balls 🏀 that you can turn into a water fountain for them. It's low cost too if you have most of the stuff. I just need the pump for mine.
Awesome birth bath. Now I know what to do with a beautiful red sink I wanted to turn into a water feature. My 5 year old grandson has a Ball around her somewhere. Lol
I have so many here where I live its great💝💗💖💝🤗😊🙂and yes I love the sound of the trickling water so nice and tranquil ty again Robbie for this amazingly easy idea
I have 6 that come back every spring (i live in Georgia) and I love them so much I just got my first birdbath and I really want to build them a fountain ♥️
Hi Robbie I might suggest putting lines with hot glue on the inside of the cut ball so that there are ridges on your next ball you make from that form that was cut.
Hi Robbie, just watched your video where you used a child's rubber ball; and you used Tulle for reinforcement, maybe you could consider 13penny nails in place as re-bar.
Awesome video Robbie! 🌟 Thank you so much! Been waiting over a year to make one of those, and this certainly looks like the best option! Yay! I'm so excited now!!🕊️ 🌺💖🙏🙏🙏💖🌺
Thank you so much for this video. Im getting the stuff to make a few today. I love it and all the hummies you always have. I only have about 4 as of last year but I think Im going to make a multi feeder station in my yard this year to attract more. God Bless you and those beautiful hummies💗
I've been wanting a cement ball for the longest. They're a bit on the pricier side. I'm not creative so this is totally a winner on my book! Thanks for sharing! How exciting lol
Thank you for this idea. It looks like they love the water idea. I can see giving them a way to grab onto the surface would please them - I will remember to sweep my cement so it has texture for them to grip. Thanks, no one mentioned the cement cure time
So glad you mentioned soaking to remove the lime -- these are fabulous projects and this one more step is an important one.

Robbie, you make this look so easy. Thank you for increasing my hummingbird population. Now I can supply them with a lovely 'bath ball' fountain.
What a neat idea ! I went to Walmart and bought a small ball to make one too . To fill the ball a bottle cut in half neck side down) works as a great funnel. Thanks !
