Question for you. I recently moved 3 of my female guppies from my 30 gallon to my 10 gallon tank. I’m 90% sure they are preganant (large belly, black spot on their underside is growing). Is this okay for them to give birth? One of them had one last night but it was immediately eaten (I’m getting more hiding places today). Any advice on how I can increase my chances of a larger yield? Do I need a bubble stone in the birthing tank? Thanks. (I have around 9 female and 8 male)
I know this video is a few years old but I have just discovered the channel. When you said $4 per gallon I almost fell of my seat!! I have searched everywhere but the cheapest tank I can find in Australia right now works out to be roughly $2 per litre. (roughly $8usd per gallon, or $1.50 USD per 0.44 gallon) 😭 I just spent $200 AUD on a 100 litre tank (26 gallon) and that was off of ebay... From a retail store you are looking at $400-$1000 for the exact same setup, even buying second hand the prices are insane.
If you're breeding for profit just use 5 gallon buckets made for food with a sponge filter. I'm from America but I used to do that because I used to be super broke 😂💪
So... I caught 23 frys... the temperature rose because outside it was 96 Fahrenheit, I removed the male, he has annoying the pregnant one. And then 1 after another. Some got eaten, by the mom and other fish. Now I have a third small 20L tank with 6x 2month old guppy fry. And in my big tank I have a small plastic container with the newly caught.. I really take good care of them but.. if I don’t sell them when they are bigger.. what can i do? Besides buying a new tank🤣🤣 also the first tank. What floating plants do you have!? I need those
I need to get a 5 gallon tank set up to pull the mother but I still get a decent amount of fry just letting my 20 gallon do its thing. I do have a decent amount of females and I have them breeding in softer water. My fathers are yellow or red tiger endlers (mostly yellows gotta thin out the yellows a bit) and the mothers are yellow cobra tail guppies

Good vid but, a couple of questions. 1. From the look of it you are inbreeding and just removing those fish that look like they have issues?. I was under the impression this was not the wisest thing to do? 2. How are you preventing immature guppies from breeding if you aren't separating the males and females? 3. I have a female who has just dropped 15 fry and has stopped and still looks heavily pregnant it has been 2 days. Any advice here? Thanks in Advance
I call it colony breeding, not sure how immature guppies can breed, if they are mature enough to breed they will. As far as your guppy goes. If she has not dropped the rest of her fry it most likely is because she is stressed. How every, she just may have only had 15 to drop, or she dropped more but they were eaten and you didn't see them. Most female guppies always look pregnant.
@@MichaelsFishRoom (you’re really chill I just thought the intro to the video was funny from the way you looked at the camera and said it) “want to know my secret to breeding guppies 😏😏😏😏😏😏😏” lmaooooo
My guppies dropped at least 30-40 fry over the past 2-3 days and I am literally “drowning” in guppy fry. I’ve separated the fry from the adults and have them in their own tank right now. I’m wondering how long before they are mature enough to start breeding? I want to avoid this as I don’t have enough room for more fry, or adults for that matter. I’m not able to determine the males from the females yet as they are too small, or my eye sight is too bad. But I’ll be able to see the sex when they are a bit older. I’ve separated the adult males from the females and want to do the same with the fry when I can see what sex they are.
Thanks for the content. I recently got two different male guppys one from a Petco and another from a pet smart. The tank from petco said assorted fancy males and the tank from petsmart was named tuxedo male. My question here is should I get two females for them in the same tank? And what type of females best for them.... am a bit lost because I have two different males and am interested in breeding them.
Hey hi there, how u doing,I m always used to breed my guppies successfully, but I'm getting all female Fry's,I'm not getting any males,Is there any suggestion plz,Thanks in advance, have a good one👍
I am planning on getting at 28l tank (6 gallons) and probably getting 4 guppies to go with it. I’m not sure what heater to use with my 6 gallon tank to get it to the 72-80 degree temperature that they need. Does anyone have any recommendations, that are not that expensive? Thanks a million!
Loved the video. Not my first one but I did subscribe today. Totally agree with the philosophy, from the cycle of life to alternate living quarters for the fish. Of particular interest was the Java Moss and sponge filter. I'm getting in some dwarf sag this week to plant in my 40 breeder and 10g Marina. The 10g will be for guppies. Both have Seachem Flourite black stone. Seeing this video makes me think Java Moss is way better. Not sure what to make of that yet.
@@MichaelsFishRoom thanks for the link to your page, I checked it out & right now I can't afford anything till I get the supplies I need to get my 55 up & running, I have a FEW guppies right now that I was lucky to get & would like to get another type, BUT I'd like to know if I could mix what I have with another type? don't know the breed of guppies I have but they pretty small (mute guppies?)
I currently have 3 female and 2 male guppies with 1 female honey gourami and 4 cory in a 10 gallon aquarium. I'm trying to breed my guppies but they will not breed. What am I doing wrong.
All guppies are about the same except for Albino, they seem to be weaker genetically. If you are looking what to buy from me, I would suggest either cobra guppies or Red tux. Very hardy and prolific, but any guppy on my web site www.michaelsfishroom.com wold be fine to start with.
How could you possibly manage to breed guppies for specific traits without backcrossing or other breeding techniques requiring inbreeding? What would be the minimum size of the gene pool to pull it off effectively with no risk of genetic abnormalities or inbreeding depression?
I breed guppies in 5g and 8g tanks or buckets. Once I have established enough algae and plants i no longer do regular water changes. I remove the males once the females are pregnant and put them in 1g jars and 2.5g tanks. I want a 55g to keep my males in, hopefully soon. I have very fast growth rates and hardly ever lose any and their color is magnificent. My PH is 7.8 and i keep the tanks around 76deg. I feed them flakes 3 times a day and brine shrimp 3 times a week. I keep them with cherry or algae shrimp to clean up after them and they are also breeding very well. I always found smaller more frequent feedings result in faster growth. If i could feed 5 times a day i would but its just too much to manage.
@@MichaelsFishRoom As a display tank mainly. I want to get some more 5g tanks for the breeding males so i dont have to use the jars anymore lol. I'd prefer to use all 10g but the 5g are more available and significantly cheaper for me. Eventually i want to get rid of the my current setup and build 10g tanks and shelving for them all.
Michael's Fish Room good question. Not wanting to breed any particular color or shape or mass breed for profit but just want a tank of fry to watch grow and see their colors develop. It’s my office tank that’s basically a stress relief.
My mutts bred and there are maybe 3 males of the original fry drop (about 10 fish). One resembles leopard tail, one some weird red/brown colour with blue flanks (it looks kinda like a Red Tuxedo) and one that is similar but without blue flanks. p.s. this is probably boring to you but to me - a 12 year old boy - this is somewhat significant.
My blue platys seem to be the fry I find in my tank. I have 2 male guppies and 6 females.. I don't know if they're eating them right as they're giving birth. It's hard to get them before they're dinner for the other fish. I don't like to stress out the females more than they are.. id love to know when they're about to give birth. I've tried to put the females in a breeding box but they don't usually give birth until I'm not looking. 😏
Hi, just for reference (no im not a fish abuser) I breed GUPPYS at 69 degrees (during the winter that is what my house is at) and at a ph of 8.4 out of my tap. They breed fine and show great color... the real trick is to get the fish from petco/smart and make them live long enough to give birth... from then on I work with the fry that love my water.
Michael's Fish Room hard to say... I do it in 10 gallons and don't separate females... all I know is I make about 75 fry per month out of each 10 gallon tank with one male and 2 females
Need Help!!!!! First of all i cant even keep a female guppy alive. I went through two dead female guppy its sad. The male guppy is very active (fingers crossed). I test my water and kept up with water change about 25% every other day. I have one female betta, one tiger barbs, one german blue. Recently added a pair of guppies from petsmart. I was told it was their new shipment i dont know if pet store quraitne their new fish shipment. No luck with the female guppy. Now i only have one male guppy and hope he survive. I cant breed guppies with out the female. Help .....i need to get it from another pet store? Its sad seeing fish died .....
Tiger barb most likely is the culprit. They are bullies. They need lots of space and to be in bigger groups, 6 at minimum, 10 or more is better. Also the female Betta could be an issue, believe it or not they can be bullies too. Also what are the actual water parameters?
Michael, great video as usual. Question. Are those 20 long aquariums in the beginning part of the video on the left? And if so, what type of top do you use?
+Irishvenom1 Sorry Irish, I don't know what "video on the left" you are talking about. But to answer your question about the top....one doesn't have. Kid and the other is too big, but I had it laying around.

At this age you won't be able too. Clean water is the most important for fry. Do you know about the Nitrogen cycle?
I like your honest view on culling as you explained it far better than others. anything till I get the supplies I need to get my 55 up & running, I have a FEW guppies right now
that I was lucky to get & would like to get another type, BUT I'd like to know if I could mix what
I have with another type? don't know the breed of guppies I have but they pretty small (mute guppies?)
I currently have 3 female and 2 male guppies with 1 female honey gourami and 4 cory in a 10 gallon aquarium. I'm trying to breed my guppies but they will not breed. What am I doing wrong.
My guess is the Gourami is eating the fry. Move the female guppies to another tank with plenty of cover and I bet you have fry with in 28 days.
cool video thanks for sharing
Glad you liked it!
I am growing common guppies now.Which type of fancy guppy is good for beginners in your experience ?
All guppies are about the same except for Albino, they seem to be weaker genetically. If you are looking what to buy from me, I would suggest either cobra guppies or Red tux. Very hardy and prolific, but any guppy on my web site www.michaelsfishroom.com wold be fine to start with.
Is big ear guppy and moscow/jet black guppy good for beginner?
Sure
Hey what’s your ratio of male to females in a tank when you try to breed them
Depends, but mostly 1 to 2
Im getting my water tested tomorrow, how would i fix the bad water if the levels are bad
Depends on what is "bad"
Michael's Fish Room you said yiuve never breeded in 8.2 ph and when i tested it was 8.2 but ive added a plant will it help lower it a little
Good morning Michael. How are you. Lots of love from India.
Hiya!
How could you possibly manage to breed guppies for specific traits without backcrossing or other breeding techniques requiring inbreeding? What would be the minimum size of the gene pool to pull it off effectively with no risk of genetic abnormalities or inbreeding depression?
Minimum....infinite.
deffinatly nice looking guppies!!!!!!👍🖒👏
Thanks!
That's the best way no waist.thanks for showing us.more breeding videos please
Thanks for watching!
Michael's Fish Room I try to watch them all you make it easy to understand because I'm thick.lol
LOL...that makes two of us!
can you do a video on how you do your water changes
It is all automatic. You can see some of it here ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=hybauGggUWc
Nice! But why a 55, harder to catch them!
I have five females and 2 males in my tank. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to remove the males after females have been fertilized.
What is your goal?
Michael's Fish Room good question. Not wanting to breed any particular color or shape or mass breed for profit but just want a tank of fry to watch grow and see their colors develop. It’s my office tank that’s basically a stress relief.
Nice! If you really want to watch, provide them lots of cover and they will be fine!
LOL...it's all good! What country are you from?
@@MichaelsFishRoomSouth Africa (I just realized that one appears to be really brightly coloured female - they are still quite young)
SweeFlyBoy's Fish thanks for watching!
Do pregnant guppy will give birth even tho i didnt seperate her in other guppy?
Yup
Why eveybody has been talking about separating families lately?
SINCE WH3N BREEDING BUBBLE GUPPIES WAS A BIG SECRET
LOL
OMG FIRST TIME I SEE A WALMART TOILET PLUMBING PIPE SETTING
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK😜🌈🦄
Why are you yelling?
How much do you charge for your black and white guppies in the video?
Email me!
Are there any breeders that sell triples or quads? (1 male and 2 or 3 females)
I will sell a trio if you are willing to pay a premium.
Your guppies are so beauty
Thanks!
You need more hiding spots.
Do you know where you could get any Moscow breeds for guppies
I have black Moscow fry and purple Moscow. Email me at michaelsfishroom@gmail.com
How long do you quarantine your guppies?
7 days.
@@MichaelsFishRoom thank you
hey dude, what are the rarest gups in Australia, would you know ?
thanks
steve.
Sorry Brah, I don't even know what the rarest gupps are in the US!
Steve Williams panda cross cobra guppies are the rarest since they normally don't like to breed
The ones I'm breeding
Hi, just for reference (no im not a fish abuser) I breed GUPPYS at 69 degrees (during the winter that is what my house is at) and at a ph of 8.4 out of my tap. They breed fine and show great color... the real trick is to get the fish from petco/smart and make them live long enough to give birth... from then on I work with the fry that love my water.
Nice! How often do they breed at that temp?
Michael's Fish Room hard to say... I do it in 10 gallons and don't separate females... all I know is I make about 75 fry per month out of each 10 gallon tank with one male and 2 females
SUPER HELPFUL VIDEO
Thanks! What did you like the most?
Do you use substrate?
Do you see substrate?
How do you tell the female from the male? I know most of the males have fancy colorful tails, is that the only way to tell?
It is pretty easy that way. Males are usually smaller and more aggressive
Keep going as you are doing things and your opinions as well I loved watching what you were doing and talking about just great thanks
Thanks for watching!
Dude your videos are awesome can I buy a pair of half black guppies of you
As long as you are in the US. Www.michaelsfishroom.com
Love the content, format, and informal style!
Thanks WC!
I like those tanks with the pvc pipes
Thanks!
8:12 was the word you trying to say "price per pound"?
I still don't know! LOL But basically the cost of FBW compared to flake makes it not cost effective.
Also, just rehome the Tiger Barbs....they will never get along with guppies IMO.
Do you sell the panda looking ones at about the 7 Minute mark?
yup...email me michaelsfishroom@gmail.com for a stock list
Lovely guppies...
ME TOO!

Can you use a breeder box?
No I can't. Can you?
@@MichaelsFishRoom I can't tell if that was a joke or serious
I was serious. I don’t like breeder boxes. So I won’t use them.
@@MichaelsFishRoom I was just wondering if breeder boxes are bad, sorry, I said that wrong
Oh! No worries. I don't like them, I prefer just to provide cover for the fry to hide in.
