When I listen, I feel as if I can start to understand the way that my ancestors from Hungary, England, Germany, and Sweden thought about faith and religion. It bridges a gulf of misunderstanding for me through the beauty of the music. Thanks for your careful work.
Nice that you like it :-) Guitar is tuned DADGBD. There are just three Chords: - E 5 (no thirds) for the drone - D Major - G Major But it is pretty tricky to explain what I am playing exactly on the chords. I guess the most easiest way to understand the arrangement is just to play both of the original voices at the same time in the key of E in a DADGBD tuning.

The sound of this flute is so beautiful, so fluid. I'm current learning the basics of the sweet flute, if it's not a problem can you tell the model of your flute? And do you have the chord of it? Big thanks for this version, it's georgeous.
It's a C-Sopran Recorder made by the Swiss company FEHR. The wood is Grenadille - don't know wat its name is in English. For more info see www.fehr-blockfloeten.com/ I hope that is helpful.
Well, but this song was played by or for pilgrims that were wandering to Santiago de Compostela. It's a mixture of a folk and christian spiritual song. But who knows?
@@ShortTailedSnails in my hometown KONYA SİLLE and KARAMAN ,Christian Turks used to live , they joined the crusades ,this beautiful song reminds me of them , maybe they were my relative ,thanks for your effort ...
It's a wooden recorder ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recorder_(musical_instrument) ). That is a very typical instrument in European musical history and is known at least since the 14th century. I guess you expected a flute: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_concert_flute
@@ShortTailedSnails thanks man. I just find out in China we called a recorder "straight flute". that is probably why I am so confused between the translation of the name of instruments. Anyway, great music.

In ecclesiastical medieval latin the /c/ behind e, i, ae became [ʧ], a sound similar to the modern italian "c" or the modern "ch" in spanish. Taking into consideration the historical context of this song, they are pronouncing properly the word "principes". They made a fine job, actually. PS: Només és una opinió a mode de crítica constructiva, eh?. No t'ho prenguis com un descrèdit malintencionat ;)
Very nice recorder playing. I imagine you are not really part of the Early Music movement? I'm driving at the fact that you have a rather busy vibrato. Most recorder players these play with very little vibrato. While that is partly a matter of where you're coming from -- vibrato is perfectly normal in folk music -- maybe it would be good to be aware of your vibrato and make it a conscious choice: you need to be able to turn it off.
You're right, we're not trying to play this medial song historically correct. This is more like an attempt to play this song like a modern folk song with the musical tools of today's world music. Apart from the vibrato, the chords and harmonics of the guitar are probably historically wrong ;-) But thanks for pointing out the vibrato for the recorders. That is new!
@@ShortTailedSnails You just know that vibrato comment was from a guy. Btw, I love the overlap (both ancient and modern) of folk and early music; in spirit and historically they are far more blurred than modern "classical" and vernacular music. I loved this.
I think the main vocalist should have a more traditional hair. It breaks a little the feeling, as it's so common women with hair similar to that defending anti-traditional values.
Well, definitively not all traditional values are worth to be protected. Long hair for women and short hair for men for instance ;-) Come on, it's 2016!
Would this have been on a medieval market or a renaissance fair I would agree, but as this seem to be a concert in modern clothes in a modern environment I can't see the problem. I love long haired women. But I also love beautiful voices, and as the music is the focus, it is great!
I get goosebumps every time... so beautiful
Everything on point. especially the beautiful voice combined with beautiful flute, but truly EVERYTHING is spot on.
