I used to be obsessed with Cantu and shea moisture, until I discovered Maui moisture curl quench, it defines better, my hair feels softer and the best part is the price!!
I tried it as well and I didn't get the results I wanted, it depends on the hair type, my sister uses the Shea Moisture cream and she loves it. I do like the way the Maui one smells :)
Cenique I like cantu well not all their products but everyone hair is different and A LOT of people dont like the leave in conditioner i’ve never tried so I can’t comment on that
I been using Cantu curling cream for a very long time and i love how it makes my curly look. no frizz, no white flakes! jus defines my 3b curls. I tryed the Shea moist smoothie it's good tell later my curls feel and looks really dry. didn't really like the smoothie.
The smoothie does NOT work for me either, Lol. I used to be obsessed with it. My hair works better with gels than creams, I have way to much frizz going on for cream products :/
Edmarys try cream and gel combined! Works for me the cream as like a moisturizer and the gel as the styler to clump and enhance the leave you the curls defined for days
The white flakes that you're seeing, the Cantu probably didn't agree with the product you used to wash your hair! It happened to me when I used to use that Cantu cream. I had to stop... It never played nice with other conditioners.
Mixing oils with my styling products doesn't do anything for my hair, Im glad it works for you though, besides the Cantu defining gel custard I wont be using their products anymore :/
Personally, Cantu did horrible on my hair. (I’m specifically talking about the styler gel) it was super sticky and dry!! Shea moisture did so well on my hair it gave it volume and moisturize it well. Shea moisture is the one :)
I used to use Shea moisture. I would only use there products, including the Curl Enhanningg smoothie. I felt like there line, would keep my hair dry, and not give it moisture like the name. I’ve then switched to Cantu and love it! So affordable and nice. Great buy👍🏽
Yes, Shea Moisture can be pricey especially when you want to buy more than 1 product at a time, I usually pick mine up when Walgreens or CVS has been BOGO :)
Omg someone who has my hair !!! feel like the two sides are two different looks. SM looks more relaxed and the Cantu looked more controlled. I use hair spray if and when I use cream products bc I have the same frizz problem too. I have to use gels instead bc my hair is weighed down with creamy products most of the time, thank you for your review !
Everything you're saying is true! I've tried them both and SAME sentiments. Buuuuuhhhht! I'm going for the opposite of what you're going for-Big Fro 😋 I just broke the bank at Sally to restock 'Shea Moisture'. The frizz works best for MY hair type. Great comparison video 👍🏾
I am almost 3a, and I use far less cream and top it off with gel. Just a coinsize for my entire head, both of the cream and the gel. Otherwise my hair gets far too weighed down. I have fine hair, BTW, but *lots* of it!
My hair is thick and frizzy which is why I add a lot more product, I wish my hair will do good with just a coin drop amount of styling product, that would save me a lot of money, Lol.
Yes, depending on what you use it can flake. So far the only things that have flaked on me are the "Every Strand" and the "Aunt Jackie's curl la la". The "Every Strand" flakes no matter how little you use, the Curl la la is fine as long as you don't use too much (coinsize is enough)!
Yes that is a brand, totally would not recommend that cream if you love layering your products though, anyway, this is it: www.amazon.com/Every-Strand-Simply-Curls-Creme/dp/B01CRAYIM6
Nice but with shear moisture the directions does say use sparingly so you’re not really supposed to use a lot and like it’s better to section your hair smaller because I did not notice the frizz but that was more at the back of your head than the front so if you section it you get an even spread.
For my hair (2c - 3a and not half as thick as yours) Cantu works very well. However I have to use less (duh, less hair) but also I sometimes have to work it in with more water. I find I don't get flakes. I do add either a light gel or mousse to get more hold. If I don't, my curls might start to stretch out and I will only get waves instead of curls.
Yes, Ive heard this product works better on wavy hair than thicker coarser hair that requires more moisture and hold, Its not a product I would recommend for those with frizzer thick curls but Im glad it works for you. A cream styler I have been loving recently is the one from Briogeo, that one works wonders on my hair type.
My hair gets flaky with every single product from this line, something in the ingredients doesn't go well with my natural sebum. I've also tried adding a little bit of product and a lot of product It just doesn't work for me.
Ive used Cantu for 6 months and changed about a month ago for Shea Moisture and wow Shea is way better less crunchy and much softer and nicer smell , liked Cantu but my 3b curly hair was not loving it
Thank you for this review. I normally use Shea Moisture because it's affordable and it has worked for my curly hair. But there has always been apart of me that wants to try other affordable curly hair products. I'm going to give Cantu a try this weekend.Request - Can you please do a review on a new curly hair product "Maui Moisture Curl Quench"? I have not seen any videos with this new product. We have the same type curls and would like if you can please do a video on"Maui Moisture Curl Quench"I have seen it at Walmart, but I know they also sell at Ulta.
Hi, Thank you for the request Im going to buy the Curl Quench this weekend and have that video up soon :) Let me know if Cantu works for you, Im going to stop using that brand :( all of their products give me flakes :/
Cantu works great with my hair. But everybody has different hair and different things work for different people. I haven’t tried shea Moisture I only use the body wash 😂😂
I only use the hair mask by Cantu but I use a lot of products from them in my daughters hair and it’s awesome for her hair. Don’t know if because it’s the kids line
Just to say what is ur hair type because if ur hair is 4a below I would advise u to use less product cause it will effect ur hair and just to say I love ur hair 💗
New subscriber here. I have 3b curls just like you, and I hate frizz as well. Try Cantu's Curl Activator with their Define and Shine Custard. Your curls will definitely be super defined, and shiny. You'll get days out of it. One word of advice though..once your hair is completely dry, scrunch out your curls. They will dry hard but once you scrunch them out, they will be super soft.
I have also a lot of frizz and I use the leave in conditioner from cantu, and when it is towel dry I put some Nivea (you know the blue pot what you normally used for your body) on the ends. It is amazing! You have to try it. Let me know if it works for you!
What does transitioning mean? I’m trying to help my husband with his hair because he didn’t know he had curls until I convinced him to grow his hair out for the first time in his life (39 years old and never had anything but a shaved head). It’s close to his shoulders now and I don’t want him to cut it
Transitioning is when you go from having chemically relaxed straight hair to natural. The process of having your natural (curly) hair grow out while trimming the straight hair off is you transitioning - straight to curly. In your husbands case he's not transitioning he's just growing out his hair :)
The back of the curl enhancing says to use sparsely. My hair is like 3 times as thick and i don't use that much lol. I've never had flakes with cantu... i use both lines and both creams
Everyone keeps commenting on the amount I applied, LOL. I've tried this product many different ways, multiple times, it actually looks worse when I apply less :( I like it under a gel but most creams, in general, do not work for my hair especially in humid weather. I think the Cantu flakes on me because it doesn't work well with the conditioner I was using, I'm going to try it with a Cantu shampoo & conditioner to see if it won't flake on me. Thank for commenting :)
Edmarys well then again i don't have particularly frizzy hair and i like creams. I don't use gels... so totally different i was just thinking maybe the amount was why yours was weighed down and flakey
The shea moisture smoothie is so thick it weighs my hair down so I don't use it much, instead I switched to the curl and style milk from the same coconut and hibiscus line. I bought the marc anthony product from your recommendation. I really like it and use it as a styler. It's reminds me of the mixed chicks leave -in which I love. I always use a styler after the leave in because my hair is frizzy like yours and the leave in alone will not tame the frizzyness. What are your go to products when you want your curls to be perfect?
Ive never used anything from the mixed chicks brand, I should try them :) My to go products... I can't choose only one, I like the Shea Moisture High Porosity Gel, The Kinky Curly Custard, The Ouidad Heat & Humidity Gel, The Marc Anthony Curl Cream, I have different things I like for my hair :)
great video been wanting to try the shea moisture and cvs had them for 50% off and there is a coupon for it too but still hesitated if i should try it.. thanks for sharing..
Nice, I always jump on things when they are on sale, I like most of Shea Moisture products, the High Porosity Gel is one of my favs also. I think you should give their items a shot especially on a discounted price :)
do a test. mix the two products together in your hand. Just rub them together and see if they will create a white film . If that happens it means they dont have ingredients that blend well together so try another combination. Follow Mo Knows Hair on RUclips. She has great tips. She really knows her stuff.
Curl enchanting smoothie cream it's for thicker hair that's why cantu works better on ur hair u shoul try the shea moisture style milk cuz the enchanting one it's creating more flatness a lot people say that
I LOVE the hair milk, I use it all the time :) I'm always on the hunt for a good styling cream that works for my hair, I mainly use gels but that's not always a good thing.
What’s the best for retaining moisture YET Not adding to residue? I really like cantu but it seems to leave white bits that’s why I’m trying shae moistire?
I was surprised at how frizzy your hair looked. Your hair is beautiful with other products on different videos I have seen. This video made me laugh because of that hot mess lol but the funniest part is that that is how MY hair looks all the time. I keep thinking my hair is just not very nice or healthy but I use products that are supposed to be good for curly hair I dont treat my hair wrong(heat etc) so maybe I'm just using the wrong products. this gives me hope hehehe.
Haha, yes its all about finding the right product for your hair and the application - as you can see my hair can become very frizzy and unruly aka a hot mess if I don't use the right styling products :) I do a lot of trail and error as I like trying new things but my hair did not like these at all, Lol
It could also be that you used to much product. Or other products on your hair prior to using the Cantu product. Cantu products don't mix well with other brands.
Honestly, at this moment, none. They don't do much to really maintain frizz long term, if you're looking for a frizz fighting cream I would suggest Marc Anthony curl cream, I've talked it about it a ton on my channel, It's my fav!
@@Edmarys Hello my dear sister thank you for writing.. Yes i use almond, castrol oil olive oill avocado oil and coconut oil.. But any product with Jojoba oil, i look like baby craddle cap.. Flakes everywhere..LOLL
its not fair this product doesnt exist in my country and i cant order it online because the price is 10 dollars more for shipping and taxes ugh i hate it bcs i cant find any good products for curly hair and i want cantu or shea moisture
Ah :( that sucks, I know international shipping is not cheap, it's for sure not worth paying more in shipping than what the product is actually worth. What products do you use now?
Edmarys yes, it's works well with my hair (keep in mind I have 3c/4a tight coils). It's very moisturizing but it has a lot of oil in its conditioner so that does separate a lot and you have to shake it up. I'd recommend trying it but it's not particularly a holy grail in my opinion
My hair has NEVER flaked with Cantu.. and I always see videos with people who deal with it. That sucks..
Ah your lucky,! Maybe it doesn't mix well with the conditioners I use, thats the only other reason I can think of :/
I used to be obsessed with Cantu and shea moisture, until I discovered Maui moisture curl quench, it defines better, my hair feels softer and the best part is the price!!

Cenique btw they put rubbing alcohol inside the Cantu moisturizer so now a lot of people stopped using it....i just found out
Cenique yup
@@explicittunes6492 no, they put cetearyl and cetyl alcohol which are curly-hair friendly

Too bad Cantu changed their formula, now it just dries my hair out

I thought only the cantu products that weren't for naturals had alcohols in them

Thanks for this video!! New subscriber!!
Thank you!! :)
please review cantu coconut curling creme and the activator

Shea moisture is the best!
Do you apply Shea moisture to dry or wet hair
@@brandonmeribe9704 damp
I really like this video 🤗 great idea
Thank you :)
My hair flakes bad from jojoba. I have to read the ingrediants, but for me any product with jojoba leaves my hair full of flakes
That's strange, Jojoba oil is the closest to the oil we naturally produce. Try Almond oil, that's my second favorite.
@@Edmarys Hello my dear sister thank you for writing.. Yes i use almond, castrol oil olive oill avocado oil and coconut oil.. But any product with Jojoba oil, i look like baby craddle cap.. Flakes everywhere..LOLL
omg you have literally the same curls and hair as me
Yay! These creams may not work for you then, Lol.
Can l get this product in Germany and which store ?
Do you usually use gels instead of creams?
I use both, It depends what Im in the mood for when Im styling me hair, lately I have been on a cream kick though :) But not these creams, LOL
its not fair this product doesnt exist in my country and i cant order it online because the price is 10 dollars more for shipping and taxes ugh i hate it bcs i cant find any good products for curly hair and i want cantu or shea moisture
Ah :( that sucks, I know international shipping is not cheap, it's for sure not worth paying more in shipping than what the product is actually worth. What products do you use now?
Theres barely ant curly hair
products in the UK
:O depends where you go. places where ive lived im managed to find them
You can find shea moisture at boots
Is shea moisture available in Amsterdam Holland?
I lovvvvvvve cantu but i could never handle those flakes and went to shea moisture and as i am
I have to try the As I Am brand, do you like it?
Edmarys yes, it's works well with my hair (keep in mind I have 3c/4a tight coils). It's very moisturizing but it has a lot of oil in its conditioner so that does separate a lot and you have to shake it up. I'd recommend trying it but it's not particularly a holy grail in my opinion
thanks 4 je VIDEO is trueh this is nu experince as wel. now im sure
Is it bad for your hair if you mix them together?
It's not.
Have you tried the Cantu Activator?
PS some cantu products have mineral oil or petrolatum and that is probably the source of the flakes....
I haven't tried it yet, Is it good?
Edmarys it's amazing I recommend it
