It's also worth noting that, by having Bucky's only winning fight be when he's pretending to be the Winter Soldier in Madripoor, the show is implying that Bucky's only a good fighter when he's a brainwashed murder machine, which couldn't be more fucked up if it tried.
Its insane. Bucky was already a good fighter even before the Super Soldier serum. I mean--- just watch him in The First Avenger with a sniper rifle. Its probably why HYDRA started experiementing on him even before he fell from the train. Even if he was going easy on those flag smasher punks he should have absolutely wrecked them.
Bucky still IS my favorite. But I agree that his story was brushed aside. We get crumbs where he deserved fully fleshed out scenes dealing with his issues. For some of the fighting I give him the "not wanting to hurt anyone",so not fighting with full force benefit, just trying to stop them from continuing to fight. And his spacial awareness is working whenever people throw things at him behind his back. Catching the shield, knives, spears that are thrown at him from behind is kinda a signature move from him. I honestly don't think the marvel writers have the ability to write for the character with the depth he deserves. And we know Sebastian Stan could deliver, if they just give him material to work with. See the scene in Wakanda.
Another thing I noticed is that Isaiah Bradley is always associated with Sam, but Bucky's the only reason that Sam knew he existed. Maybe he could've been important to both of them. Sam learning about the racism that plagued Captain America's legacy, and Bucky attempting to make amends to Bradley for everything that happened in the Korean War and after. There's even common ground, because Bucky and Isaiah were both unwilling experiments with no way out. But why remember that when there's a shoehorned political agenda to yap about?
Everything with Isaiah Bradley drove me kind of nuts. I hated how the show was like "Isaiah is entitled to feel bitter for what happened to him..." and yet Bucky arguably had it *worse* . He was outright tortured (remember those electric shocks they used to wipe his brain?), experimented on both *before* and probably after his fall from the train, presumably had the super solider serum put into his body at some point without his consent (like Isaiah) and then just to top it all- its quite obvious that high up people in the US government were complicit at least some of Bucky's crimes. He helped at least one Senator get into power, and in The Winter Soldier movie there was that politician/SHIELD operative giving him orders too. Bucky has every reason to resentful too, yet the series tells us he's meant to be *grateful* to the US government for "pardoning" him. Oh let me guess. Its because despite being exploited by the very government he once fought for in the Second World War, brainwashed, stripped of his agency and tortured for years he has "white privelege?" Bradley is just a mouthpiece for the whole racial inequality "message". If he's meant to represent government neglect of veterans or PTSD then he's totally needless as we already have the above in Bucky. (If Steve or the US military had just like sent a search party after he fell of the train in 1944 maybe he'd never have been captured by the Soviets to begin with?) If they'd just devoted more time and sensitivity to his PTSD and attempt to make amends we could have got a much better series. Sam was better when he didn't want to become Captain America because he was uncertain of himself and of the responsibilities, not "because he's black". Controversial but- I actually think Bucky might have been a better choice for a new Captain America not least because had so much direct, firsthand experience of government corruption and mistreatment of the "little guy".
@@Wolffman109 It's not Bucky's fault what happened to Bradley. He's not responsible for the actions of the American government or what his captors did to others. Dammit these writers need to stop forcing him to make up for things he wasn't to blame for.
@@Wolffman109 Bucky is not their scapegoat punchbag. They either leave him alone or they give him happiness- and Kevin Feige if you are reading this wel will accept no more Bucky abuse.
You can tell that there is a clear line between Endgame and everything that came after it. It's feels like a completely new management is in charge of these new shows and movies. Old characters act completely differently now.
13:33 Pay close attention to Sam's expression during the therapy session. He just looks totally mocking and apathetic, like Bucky's perfectly valid reasons for being upset over Sam's decision to give up the shield are irrelevant or childish. Like, "boo hoo, bionic boy is sad". He totally doesn't care about Bucky in this show and even mocks him throughout, constantly throwing his horrific past in his face. That's another reason why I hate Sam in this show. It's really clear who the show cares about, and it's not Bucky.
Well said. Complete waste of Sebastian as his line delivery there, and throughout, is just great. Really wished he had his own show, with writers that actually cared about his character.
And Sam never acted like that in the movies before Endgame. In the movies, he seemed genuinely concerned about Bucky’s well-being after finding out he was the Winter Soldier. Hell, Sam has a background as a therapist for soldiers with PTSD. If anyone could understand Bucky’s trauma, it’d be Sam. It feels like the writers totally forgot that Sam was a VA therapist.
I agree with a lot about what you're saying, except what you're saying about Bucky and John and Bucky's fighting. First, the fighting, I think his skills decreased because the Winter Soldier fought to kill. And when they fought Thanos - he fought to kill. Now he's not fighting to kill. He would probably have to relearn his fighting style to be less lethal. At least that is what I told myself about why these baby super soldiers were kicking his ass. He mentions in CW he wasnt going to kill anyone, but his skill level went back and forth in that movie depending on who he was fighting. One thing about John becoming a super soldier - Carly mentioned the serum made her think she was dying and it burned in their veins when they took it. John was fighting flag smashers and Bucky hours later, and he was fine. As far as Bucky and John go, John says on TV that he didn't know Steve but he felt like he was his brother. That was all it took for Bucky to hate him. He is deeply mourning Steve. He was all he had from his old life and Steve basically abandoned him. Plus, Bucky was left alone for six months in a world he no longer knew. Look at what happened to Wanda - she had nothing and no one. Her brother was gone, Steve and Nat were gone, and Vision was gone. Sam, Rhody, and Hawkeye went back to their previous lives. She was alone, mourning overwhelmed her, and she lost control of her mega super power and took over Westview.(then she was left alone again and turned dark!) But Bucky is forced into therapy - something men probably didn't do in the 40s - and being forced to make amends the way the government wanted him to. So they are forcing him to relive his past over and over again while ignoring his PTSD. Also he was making amends to people that didn't seem to deserve it(the congresswoman) He avoids Sam - maybe because he doesn't want to be reminded of Cap's replacement or something. They never say why, but then Sam gives up the shield. Bucky says at one point the shield seemed like the only family he had left. Sam gives it up, and some new guy has it and claims he felt like Steve's brother. So much of what Bucky is, is tied to Steve, and the shield represents Steve. Sam even mentioned to Bucky he needed to disconnect from Steve. I also think Steve represents Bucky's innocent undamaged pre-Hydra version in his head. Then he meets John while getting his ass kicked. I am sure that's humiliating, and alpha-male responds with anger. Plus, Bucky just found out more serum is out there which makes all of Team Cap's sacrifice in Civil War totally worthless. And Bucky realizes Hydra might be surfacing again. The people who ruined his life and tortured him for decades. So the show keeps stripping down everything Bucky can depend on as well as stripping down his identity and still ignoring his PTSD(they dont even address it). I think he went to Zemo because he knew he hated Hydra as much as he did. *However*, Zemo's revenge wasn't on Hydra. He used them and Bucky as a revenge on the Avengers. He never claimed in Civil War to hate Hydra. He never even blamed them for Sokovia. He hates enhanced people - first the Avengers, then the Flag Smashers - because they think they are gods and supremacists. I think he actually felt a little sympathy for Bucky and didn't consider him like the others because he was a victim. But that wouldn't stop him from using Bucky though. But Bucky is dealing with so much internally and he doesn't share with Sam. He's going from feeling betrayed by Sam for giving up the shield to realizing Sam is a good guy, just like Steve thought. But he sees in John what he calls 'not right'. He doesn't realize that John might be an a-hole and they would never be friends but John has PTSD too. He talks about his medals and how they remind him of terrible things. Then he becomes Cap and realizes 2 things - he's being used as PR mostly and that he's not getting the respect Steve did. Not from Bucky and Sam and not from the public "Do you know who I am?" "Yes and I don't care." He's watching Bucky and Sam still getting shit done that he can't. There is straight up anger and jealousy between him and Bucky. John referred to Bucky as 'an asset' and Hydra referred to him as the asset. He gets in Bucky’s face and says it's all easy for Bucky with that serum in his blood. The same serum that was FORCED on Bucky and John willingly/eagerly took. But then John committed the ultimate crime. He was understandably devastated over Lamar but he murdered someone with the shield. They focused alot on the blood on the shield for a reason. The shield is Steve's legacy and John just bloodied it. Also, I think you watched a different fight than I did. Sam tried multiple times to get the shield and calm John down. It wasn't until it was clear John wouldn't give up the shield that Bucky intends to take it no matter what. John attempts to kill both of them multiple times and saying delusional things about he is Cap America, like he didnt just kill someone. Sam just wants to get the shield away and deescalate the situation. Bucky is justified in being angry but it is escalated because he wants defend Steve's legacy and he is also trying to protect Sam. I also think in Bucky's mind he was doing the heroic thing. They do not make John a sympathetic character when he should be. But his personality was so unlikable. It will be interesting to see John and Bucky together again in Thunderbirds. They do not explain why Bucky was so angry at Sam after the fight? Was it a warning not to give up the shield again? Was he mad because what they had to do to get it back? Or was this 106 yr old Bucky expressing he wasn't happy he was likely in pain? Who knows! I think the worst thing that happened to this show was the break due to covid. During that year there was so many racially motivated events. I think they decided they needed to address it in the show but they left in all of the other themrx so they had too many deep meanings. I hated Carly because she was always given 5-10 min long speeches about her viewpoints but then you had so many other view points and the black Captain America problem came in midstream. When Rhody - a fellow black superhero - asked Sam why he didn't take up the mantle, Sam said absolutely nothing about race to a person who would understand. He said he didn't do it because the shield belonged to Steve. That excuse made sense with all of the other issues with Bucky and John and even Zemo. The race problem only made sense with the Isaiah storyline, but that part of the story could have stayed in without them turning the whole show about race. To me some lines made no sense like when Sam says in his big speech how he could understand because he's a black man wearing the stars and stripes. Well, Rhody has done that for years. Sam basically did the same even as the Falcon just not in stars and stripes. Maybe I'm wrong but I just feel like there were too many messages and Bucky's got lost in the shuffle which made some of his actions seem very out of character. Other complaints - why did Bucky and Sharon act like they knew each other? He tried to kill her as the WS and then watched her kiss Steve but they never exchanged 2 words so why act like they knew each other? They never make 2 thing clear and bounced back and forth on them - is Bucky considered an Avenger to the public and how much does the public know about his past? John refers to they how couldn't expect to walk around without the public saying something about the 2 Avengers. But Bucky went in to see Zemo because Zemo hated Avengers and Sam was one. And Nakajima didn't know Bucky was the Winter Soldier until Bucky told him plus his date asked alot of questions like he was just a regular 30-something guy and laughs about his age. How the h*ll could the Winter Soldier live in your neighborhood and you not know it if it was common knowledge who the WS was? The who are the Avengers seems to be an ongoing issue. It came up in DS2 and Secret Invasion. And maybe others. There isn't a clear decision about who is one by Marvel so each show & movie just wing it. I am embarrassed by the length of my response lol I need to get a life
This show was pretty damn hard to watch as a Bucky fan. (And it made me actively dislike Sam as Cap.) I still love Bucky though; I’m doing gold metal level mental gymnastics by saying “He’s out of sorts from PTSD!” for my head canon, but the truth is that the creators of this show just hate Bucky.
The show shit on Bucky in terms of characterisation but it also wasn't kind to Sam either. It's hard, for me, to really see Sam as the same character from the movies because he's just such a walking mouthpiece for the writers opinions in this show. They used both of these characters as nothing more than propoganda props because why else would we see Sam, a PTSD sufferer and counsellor in his own right, taking shots at Bucky, enabling and validating his internalised guilt and self degradation and lecturing a VICTIM about how he has to be in service for things that his slavers forced him to do? Like Bucky isn't Sam or the people Sam counsels. Even when he had free will he didn't sign up for war. He didn't make a choice to sign on the line, join the game and then realise how dirty the game was. Bucky literally had no choice. He was even more a prisoner than Isaiah was because Isaiah was still able to retain parts of himself; his memories, his hope, his love--- Bucky was enslaved body, mind and soul. But we're expected to believe that Bucky suffered less or was somehow part of the problem because he's a white dude? That Bucky is grouped in with Isaiah's victimisers and Sam is supposed to understand him better than the dude who actually lived a similar experience to him because they share the same skin color. While Bucky, Hydra slave, is framed as not really being able to have a clue. And Sam who is supposed to perceptive and empathic enough to counsel people through their traumas isn't able to grasp the difference between The Winter Soldier and those who actively participated in war. The fact that we're supposed to somehow see Bucky Barnes (whose having to complete mandated therapy and jump through government hoops to prove himself a worthy member of society as a consequence of his enslavement by Hydra) in a better position or more of a position of power over Sam because Sam gets profiled by a cop is hilarious. If they wanted to really frame Sam as a victim of government, of politics of society etc then they couldn't have picked a worse character to pull that side by side with 😂😂😂 because they did not make a convincing argument that society or the government would trust Bucky; formerly known as The Winter Soldier before they would trust Sam.
@@dani-ell-ah Absolutely spot on. Isaiah undoubtedly had a bad time, but Bucky was literally tortured and experimented on both before and after that fall from the train. I think its in one of the comics, but apparently the reason HYDRA had to torture Bucky with electric shocks and "wipe his mind" was because he was so resistant to brainwashing presumably when he was still in that facility Steve rescued him from (oh yes another experience Bucky had in common with Isaiah). Bucky was entirely stripped of his agency and identity for all his time as the Winter Soldier: he wasn't even allowed to age because of the freezing. Isaiah at least had his mind, his personality, and someone who looked out for him even in prison. Honestly, Bucky is even a better example of a person who was victimized by governments because its obvious the US government and high ups in other regimes used him to do their dirty work multiple times. Oh but of course, he's white so he can't really be a victim can he?
They used Bucky as the stand in for white guilt which considering his storyline is atrocious. That's why he wasn't allowed to be protrayed as a victim of his own enslavement by Hydra because that would conflict with the messaging that the white guy (Bucky) had to atone for his sins and right his wrongs. The fact that they framed Bucky as being obliged to redeem for actions he had no willing participation in, Sam telling him that he had to be in service to people he didn't actively wrong---they literally took a slave but because he wasn't the right race, they made him accountable for his own slavery rather than a victim of it.
Why does the show hate Bucky? Honestly, I think its because they really only wanted to tell a story about the "first Black Captain America" and threw in Bucky for fan service. Characters included for fan usually get screwed over by writers. He can't be too competent or strong because it will make everyone else look useless, he can't be the one who teaches and mentors Sam about what it means to be Captain America bcause that would be racist. Or something. Notice he's not going to be in the 4th Captain America movie at all. ..and *everything* with the shield is so absurd. We actually already had a story arc about Steve giving up the shield in Civil War. It was designed to show us that values like friendship, loyalty and kindness were what defined Captain America rather than the shield or the recognition. Bucky understood that too, and should not have cared remotely what happened to the shield.
I agree! The way that they handled the ending of the storyline with Yuri was just... so bad. It had like a few seconds? We deserved way more than that. Its almost as if they forgot about Bucky's trauma and the PTSD storyline completely in favour of the *terrorists and racial inequality*, so everything else fell by the waywide. Also the bar scene was so painful. It would be excruciating for a person with PTSD like Bucky is meant to have had, to have to relive, let alone re-enact the type of situation which traumatized them in the first place. That should have had a detrimental impact on him: even if he agreed to do in the the first place. Also wasn't the WS very existence supposed to be a closely gaurded secret? Natasha said as much in one of the movies. The idea that someone would go about with him openly, and unmasked in a bar, and then offered his services to a petty crime lord is absurd.
I’m so glad that other people see how shafted Bucky was in TFATWS. Honestly, if they wanted Bucky to be bad at fighting they could’ve done so with a simple fix. Have him be afraid of slipping into his past life as the Winter Soldier and go on a journey of learning to trust himself. Let him realize that he can take the skills he learned as an assassin and use them for good. I think a story about Bucky accepting his past as the Winter Soldier and turning that name around would have been so much more interesting and powerful.
One thing I did not like about this show is the way Sam treated Bucky, I mean he constantly threw his past trauma in his face, like when he flat out told Bucky "We're not assassins" like wtf Sam?!
I agree 100% with you, honestly they failed bucky and done him dirty I don't agree that they should have called him white wolf but that scene with him and yori was terrible it should have been longer and that's the sad thing bucky had the potential to be one of the best characters but he'll never be anything more than captain America's sidekick which is really sad
I agree Bucky is one of my favorite characters, but he was nerfed to death (i will always think that he should have become the captain america) At least in civil war he gave a good fight even out of the winter soldier control but in the show he can only defeat regular guys, something that even maria hill can do He gets beaten by super "people" with no training, gets suprised constantly, he cant even get the upper hand with a guy who just got powers like 2 days ago in a 2v1 fight and barely doesnt pass out after defeating him His bionic arm is a joke, its way stronger than a super soldier arm yet it seems just like antoher normal hand that gets easily weakened or deactivated by just throwing him around. By that logic a guy with a taser gun would beat him easily. The only thing he gets its the weird ability to catch stuff and the "dont be a dick" treatment
Not only that, the show creators also confirmed Bucky isn't going to be known as "The Winter Soilder" anymore. So he's "White Wolf" now, I guess? Also, why is it that he can't fight at all in his fights? I mean, he's one of the most dangerous super soilder with lethal skills and combat but he can't do squat agaisnt low grade super soilders (who apparently can fight oh so well against a 70+ year old Bucky with decades of experience 🙄) and normal humans no less. I'm sorry but NO ONE (well aside from Captain America, Black Panther and Black Widow) should be able to get even a slight upper hand when facing him in combat. Especially with all his lethal training and skills. It's as if they "de-brainwashed him" and now all his skills and training is also gone? Like what? The show also just made him a bit too grounded for me, as well as dumb and just pathetic. 😔 He's one of my fav characters and this show ruined him and gave him no definite reason to be in the show. It was so focused on Sam, Sam was fighting better and doing better than Bucky. Also, I feel like they switched Sam and Bucky's personalities just to fit the show cause they didn't act like their previous selves from the movies. Least to me. Oh well, guess its time for some fanfics to be written. 😊
Buck still has his fighting prowess. He shows that in the club. What it looks like is he is pulling his punches. He is trying not to hurt anyone. Remember he is basically on probation with the military and can’t mess that up if he wants to remain free. He had trouble with Walker again he wasn’t trying to kill him just stop him.
Their personalities didn’t switch. We are just seeing more of it. In the end Bucky was returned to his old self. At least in my eyes they were. Sam had to shine more to show everyone he earned that mantle. Bucky could have easily fight much better but for story purposes they had to show Sam could handle himself. There was so much negative reaction to Sam being Cap they had to prove it. Even to this day people ignore the fact that Bucky is dealing with severe PTSD because they just want him to be Cap. Do you see what happened to Walker? The man was suffering.
@@seahbeahr5213 what? Then how do you explain him being detained by the smashers in the Lorry fight? He was a match for Steve in WS and now it takes both Sam and Bucky to beat Walker. Even vs the Dora Milaje (the most contrived fight ever) he could win and gets disarmed...literally. Bucky is supposed to be the Winter Fucking Soldier, yet he gets bested so many times in this show, it's like they forgot how much of a threat he was when he was brain-washed. Did he just forget how kick-ass he is? If so the show needs to address that and doesn't
10:00 . So if steve gave the shield to sam, it makes him ignorant. If he gave it to someone else, he's racist for not considering sam. Classic Disney logic at it's finest.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I also think it’s weird that in the future, Bucky and John walker will be on the Thunderbolts team together…? How would they work that out? What changed between them? I just think marvel has a lot of loose ends that they’re too lazy to tie up, or maybe it’ll explain later, who knows at this point
Exactly Bucky I don't know why he isn't with Sam in Captain America 4, I feel like marvel is using Bucky to market the Thunderbolts movie which isn't a good sign for Bucky
Malcolm Spellman and the rest of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's writers need to see this video. They need to see just how much they fucked up. Bucky and Sam should've had two different shows that introduced these characters (including new ones, like John Walker and Karli Morgenthau), and then they reunite in Captain America 4. Hopefully Bucky recovers from this, because I honestly think he's a better and more interesting character than Sam Wilson.
I’m gonna be real. The writers hate Bucky because he’s a popular white character. Not saying that Sam wasn’t popular but people were more invested in Bucky’s story than they were with Sam’s. I’m angry that Bucky’s character development was sacrificed on the altar of woke politics. I think he should have been the next Captain America because he was Steve’s best friend and was superhumanly enhanced like Steve. It could have been a great story of redemption and moving on. Instead, this bs is what we got.
Sam's story wasn't even that interesting! It feels like they were less concerned about telling a good story, and more like they just wanted free brownie points for being "woke"!
this show let me down so much when i expected bucky to be the lead they downplayed/nerfed him his story was left out the writers used the fact that bucky is deprogamated and has PTSD to write it as Sam's SideKick The Show is also extremely Inconsistent in Power and Ability
Yes! It felt like Cap saying "I'm with you to the end of the line" was BS. Bucky deserved the Shield. He deserved a second chance. A new identity since he's no longer the Winter Soldier. Such wasted potential. I would've loved for him to struggle trying to fill the shoes Steve left behind.
My thoughts exactly! Bucky felt guilty about the blood on his hands but what better way of redemption and proving he's worthy than defend people as Captain America?! Now I agree Bucky had a lot on his mind like the PTSS, the nightmares and the guilt but if Steve had offered him the shield it would've shown him how Steve believes in him and that he's worthy. Don't get me wrong, I love Sam, I really do and it's not that I'm not glad that he's Cap but I just...I wished it was Bucky. Also when they defeated John and Bucky took the bloody shield I kind of blindly hoped that just like when two people are arguing and third wins, the shield would now be Bucky's and Sam would say something like John can't be Cap and he can't be Cap either, but Bucky can and he should keep the shield. It would've actually made so much sense, but unfortunately was only wishful thinking...
I liked the show (and the original concept for it) more than you, largely due to the chemistry on and off camera between Stan and Mackie. But I agree 98% with this. (It made sense to me that Bucky more than anyone would have issues with Walker, though.) Head writer Malcolm Spellman and his team were clearly interested in only telling the one story, and the theme overshadowed the overall storytelling - partly why the Flag Smashers was such a muddled and ultimately irritating element. It's worth noting that Bucky, Sam, and Isaiah are all veterans, but Bucky has the longest and, arguably, the most complex history. (Isaiah is mostly bitter, but still has family.) If they wanted to stick to big themes, they could've used Bucky to explore the ever-shifting American attitudes towards veterans, and in particular veterans' mental health. But - *snap* - one four-minute confession and his PTSD is cured like magic. It was downright insulting. Bucky is owed a do-over.
@@Lovemetender757 Malcolm was the lead writer, so I'm mostly blaming him. He made these choices, he wrote these lines, so I'm blaming him. Kevin Feige is still responsible, though as well.
so i havn't seen any of the marvel shows but i know alot about the characters and i know that a Winter Soldier stand alone show would be far better than this show. They should have Started Marvel Internatinal and done a Black Widow and Winter Soldier show. Consintrating on the groups they belong 2. Being centered on these characters would introduce many Russian villians and heroes!!!
Yeah, I agree. (don't know too much about the character comics wise but he was always interesting to me with the films) I wish there was a separate Bucky show. I, personally, don't recommend the show, but I encourage others to make their own opinion on different mediums.
7:09 I couldn't agree more, honestly. People have assumed that Bucky's holding back because he doesn't want to kill anybody anymore, but that's not much of an excuse. He just needs to adjust the power on his combat moves, not sacrifice that and the technique required to be effective in combat. Hell, at one point in episode four, when he's fighting that Flag-Smasher who threw a knife at him, it literally looks like the two of them are playing patty-cake!
I saw Captain America: Civil War Even when Bucky was actively trying to avoid killing those people after him, he STILL put up a good fight. It literally took multiple Avengers to even bring him and Cap in. That was more determined by who he was facing big time. There’s also him handling multiple Avengers by himself before Steve’s the one to get him.
ANOTHER thing I noticed: why are we covering racism again here, when we've already covered it extensively in Black Panther? We're already getting a sequel and a Wakandan TV series which will also most likely focus on racism, so why are we tackling it here, when we could've explored a different topic? If Bucky had gotten the shield, we could've explored something like veterans' mental health, which is a struggle shared by John Walker!
I think the crazy aspect with this concept (and I'll talk more about that in the Sam video) is that this focus on this particular topic seems off when we consider that this is post blip. Where 50% of the world was gone for 5 years, there was an adjustment period, then everyone returns again after the blip. It would seem like a topic like this just would not have the same focus after all that trauma the entire planet went through. It just doesn't make sense
@@reddevilosareviews Also, imagine if Sam was snapped, but Bucky wasn't! Imagine the perspective that would've brought to the show! I think the CBR RUclips channel has a video talking about this topic, actually. It's called, "What if Bucky didn't get dusted?", and it's well worth a watch.
This one is a little bit off-topic, but how soon we thinking for the John Walker video? I know this one just came out, but I am really loving this series.
@@Wolffman109 Thanks man. Unfortunately I've been leaving some of my other subs dry with their interest involving my fancast videos that I also do on my channel. My plan was to work on that, as well as a breakdown for The Batman movie, then I'll get to John. On a rough estimate, also considering college, the best I can aim for is late-April to May
nobody in the show cares about bucky’s trauma. it’s always put on the back burner for other things. yes, racism is bad, but so is mistreatment of traumatized torture victims, and nobody cares about that part of him… it’s really disappointing
Hey, I'm currently writing a personal essay on how Bucky's been wasted in the MCU and my ideas on how he could be fixed in the future. I don't know what I'm gonna do with it (like if there's any website or something I could send it to so it would get some notice), but I was wondering if I could include some of your TFATWS videos in it. I'm thinking that, once each video is out, since they've all included Bucky in some way, I could provide links or citations in the essay, so that if I share the essay, people could watch your videos. Whatcha think?
@Isabel Mayberry Maybe Red Devilosa Reviews will make a video on this if you ask. However, my essay is about Bucky, and it's not a video. I already have included some of your points (unintentionally; I didn't see this comment until after I wrote them) in my essay, when I discussed my problems with Cap's ending.
@Isabel Mayberry Jesus. That's a lot. I'm so sorry you went through that. However, I'd like to point out that their rivalry went as far back as Civil War. There, Sam's hatred for Bucky made sense: Bucky tried killing him three times as the Winter Soldier, and I don't understand why Bucky didn't like Sam. However, that's never even TOUCHED on during the show, which was a colossal disappointment.
@@reddevilosareviews I at least want to include the John Walker video (although I'll take the Sam video if I can get it) in my essay. It's mostly complete, I just want some people to edit it before I look into what I want to do with it. When you thinking the John video's gonna be released? I'd really like to include it in the "works consulted" area.
Expecting Bucky to apologise for the actions of The Winter Soldier is like expecting a gun to apologise for being fired. It's empty and meaningless. That's one of the biggest problems in the show is that they validate Bucky's internalised guilt and shame rather than really driving home the point that he was as much a victim as the people he killed. Bucky could apologise all day long but true justice will still never be served and true amends will never be made because the real hand behind the gun was Hydra and anyone else who gave his orders. All an apology or amends or a redemption story from Bucky serves is to have him beat himself up and double down on his own self hatred and his own inability to see how much of a victim he truly was, which the show delighted in doing. Framing Bucky as a reformed bad guy or within a villain redemption narrative is just really spiteful storytelling.
Bucky was not at fault or responsible for what Hydra forced him to do! He didn’t choose to be what he was. People need to stop trying to vilify him. Plus the Stark’s were all dead by the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
I don’t understand he’s highly trained us army soldier also , has Russian spezna training and assassin He shouting be best of best us army produced Bucky deserves better than this
Late, but here goes. Bucky Barnes became my favourite character in the MCU, and I too was disappointed and let down by everything which happened with his character after Captain America Civil War - no, that's not a typo. CACW was the last time the character was given anything to do, and behind the scenes interviews with the writers (Markus and McFeeley) and the Russos showed why: they absolutely hated the character, and felt that going into cryo was his rightful punishment for all the stuff that he did. This, after the beginning of CACW shows Bucky being tortured and brainwashed. Anyway, Bucky was brought back for Infinity War and was the first one to dust - we saw this from Steve's POV, and it seemed that he and Sam would be important to Steve in Endgame, that he would be struggling to get his friends back. Nope! But enough about Endgame, let's go on to TFaTWS The writer admitted that he'd never even watched CA The Winter Soldier. Literally the most important background to one of the characters he needed to write, and he didn't watch it. Even the flashback scene - which you're right, though it is awesome, makes no sense for a character Natasha referred to as a ghost - makes even less sense when Bucky says 'Hail Hydra', which, WTF? Why is he speaking in English? Why speaking at all? It's all to fuel the writer's agenda, which is to make Bucky responsible and culpable for what he did when he was brainwashed. The way they keep wording it - "I had no choice" is just more of the same garbage - he was not treated as a human being with choices or lack of them, he was turned into a weapon and unleashed on others. Last thing: why put him in the series at all? Basically, they had contractual obligations to Sebastian Stan which weren't being met by the 90 second cameos/2 minute appearances in other movies. Also, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie had just shown tremendous chemistry in all the publicity for IW/E, and they wanted to leverage that in a Superhero Miami Vice/buddy cop show. And they had no intention of making a Winter Soldier movie. So there it is. I've heard he's going to be in this new Thunderbolts movie, but I'm going to spoil myself beforehand - if it's more character assassination, I'll pass.
yeah, I still plan on it. It's just a bit busy with college. I plan to come back to this subject sometime in the fall (particularly how shit Karli is) 😊
@@reddevilosareviews I understand. College is a real bitch. I just completed another summer course and now I only have another week of vacation before my life metaphorically ends again.
Even thought the super soldier serum in bucky in much weaker that that In John walker and tye flag smashers It still doesn't explain how bucky was portrayed as a weak fighter
if anything bucky and sam should be more understanding of john walker after all they are soldiers and definetly they should have their brains because i swear to god you could tell me that these two morons were just alien clones or hydra's cyborgs and i would buy it, they act nothing like they should for those characters
It’s like Bucky lost the Winter soldier instincts inside of him. Whoever made this show, they need to make it better. Make Bucky’s character more potential.
Bucky Barnes should’ve been captain America first and then Sam Wilson. But no, they wanted Sam Wilson to be Captain America instead. Show was okay. If Steve Rodgers was in the show, I would picture him saying, “let’s all Captain America.”
Hello my name is Everett and I'm visually impaired completely and I would just like to take this time to sincerely apologize if this text comes out weird it's because my phone has voice over and sometimes a voiceover does not get everything I say sometimes but I really did not like to chill at all I thought the villain sucked I thought it was a very boring I thought that the flag Smashers didn't do anything for me I hated the way these. Bucky because both of them from being a badass. Being just this joke of a character a lot and a lot of instances I don't understand why she's used to be with a stand toe-to-toe with Captain America and other characters but you can't stand toe-to-toe with these inexperienced flag Smashers in his ass getting beaten all the time I didn't like it's just weird to me I mean I hate that they keep making these characters like Captain America and other characters like I'm sorry but Sam Wilson is not Captain America in my opinion and before anybody really disagrees it's not because of Any ethnic thing it's just it's just a weird like it's really weird to me I mean it's like it ready conned with steaks before and I don't know maybe it's just me but I mean Falcon Quan is on you know you don't need to make him Captain America falcon school on his own but they did it in the comics and nobody really left it in the comments either so again I really hope that my intention is not to offend anybody at all I just really do not like this show and if people do get offended I do apologize for that really sincerely I just did not really like this feeling having Sam as Captain America it's really weird calling him Captain America is it really weird to me
I don’t think they have. Sebastian Stan has a ten movie contract. I think they show allowed him to bury his demons. They haven’t touched on his transition to White Wolf. I absolutely believe we will see him in Captain America 4 and Black Panther 2. No doubt he would return to Wakanda after T’Challa dies.
Doubtful. Remember, Ayo told Bucky to stay out of Wakanda for the time being. Doesn't make much sense for him to suddenly just reappear. I think it'd make more sense for Bucky to have his own movie, that had him run in with Black Widow's old family.
Disagree. The comics did it better having Bucky reclaim the Winter Soldier title and control how it was used and how it was defined and what its legacy meant on his terms rather than burying it under another nickname.
Bruh, The modern serum increases your skill aswell as well as one of the flagsmashers saying how they worked as a madripoor body guard before being a super soldier, plus Bucky literally cleaves his way through all the flagsmashers by the end of the show. He was holding back in the truck fight, and even then he still did beat up some of them
It's also worth noting that, by having Bucky's only winning fight be when he's pretending to be the Winter Soldier in Madripoor, the show is implying that Bucky's only a good fighter when he's a brainwashed murder machine, which couldn't be more fucked up if it tried.
Its insane. Bucky was already a good fighter even before the Super Soldier serum. I mean--- just watch him in The First Avenger with a sniper rifle. Its probably why HYDRA started experiementing on him even before he fell from the train. Even if he was going easy on those flag smasher punks he should have absolutely wrecked them.
also a massive lie because Civil War is right there??????
Its because despite being exploited by the very government he once fought for in the Second World War, brainwashed, stripped of his agency and tortured for years he has "white privelege?"
Bradley is just a mouthpiece for the whole racial inequality "message".
@@englishlady9797 Yeah, ngl the race thing was so annoying, it was so forced.
@@Wolffman109 It's not Bucky's fault what happened to Bradley. He's not responsible for the actions of the American government or what his captors did to others.

You can tell that there is a clear line between Endgame and everything that came after it. It's feels like a completely new management is in charge of these new shows and movies. Old characters act completely differently now.
Right there with you, dude. 😡
I just wish they would've given the Shield to Bucky in Endgame.
hmmm
@@reddevilosareviews Hear, hear.
@@khfan4life365 I agree! Why does Marvel feel the need to massacre legends!?
bucky only serves as a ladder for sam to look relevant
She was alone, mourning overwhelmed her, and she lost control of her mega super power and took over Westview.(then she was left alone again and turned dark!)
But Bucky is forced into therapy - something men probably didn't do in the 40s - and being forced to make amends the way the government wanted him to.
I am embarrassed by the length of my response lol I need to get a life
That was a beautiful speech, much better than falcon’s
This show was pretty damn hard to watch as a Bucky fan. (And it made me actively dislike Sam as Cap.)
I still love Bucky though; I’m doing gold metal level mental gymnastics by saying “He’s out of sorts from PTSD!” for my head canon, but the truth is that the creators of this show just hate Bucky.
100% accurate analysis, dude/dudette.
He was even more a prisoner than Isaiah was because Isaiah was still able to retain parts of himself; his memories, his hope, his love---
Bucky was enslaved body, mind and soul.
3:11 It's also worth noting that Bucky's therapist was horrible at her job. Hell, even MY therapist thinks that her approach was shitty!
Right? Like, making Bucky relive the trauma of Hydra is not healing. It is more damaging and would not work
They used Bucky as the stand in for white guilt which considering his storyline is atrocious.
One thing I did not like about this show is the way Sam treated Bucky, I mean he constantly threw his past trauma in his face, like when he flat out told Bucky "We're not assassins" like wtf Sam?!
so you liked everything else?
that's terryfing
I agree 100% with you, honestly they failed bucky and done him dirty I don't agree that they should have called him white wolf but that scene with him and yori was terrible it should have been longer and that's the sad thing bucky had the potential to be one of the best characters but he'll never be anything more than captain America's sidekick which is really sad

He gets beaten by super "people" with no training, gets suprised constantly, he cant even get the upper hand with a guy who just got powers like 2 days ago in a 2v1 fight and barely doesnt pass out after defeating him
His bionic arm is a joke, its way stronger than a super soldier arm yet it seems just like antoher normal hand that gets easily weakened or deactivated by just throwing him around. By that logic a guy with a taser gun would beat him easily.
The only thing he gets its the weird ability to catch stuff and the "dont be a dick" treatment
You know something sad? I know fans who could have written this show better than the so-called “pros”.
I'm already conceiving of a Winter Soldier MOVIE that was better than this shit.
Absolutely. There was a story that could've been told, but they didn't care about it. Such a waste of Sebastian Stan 😔

Exactly Bucky I don't know why he isn't with Sam in Captain America 4, I feel like marvel is using Bucky to market the Thunderbolts movie which isn't a good sign for Bucky
Ending it with the title Captain America and Winter Soldier plus Bucky being in Thunderbolts show marvel doesn't get or care about Bucky's character.
I think he should have been the next Captain America because he was Steve’s best friend and was superhumanly enhanced like Steve. It could have been a great story of redemption and moving on. Instead, this bs is what we got.
I couldn't agree more.
Sam's story wasn't even that interesting! It feels like they were less concerned about telling a good story, and more like they just wanted free brownie points for being "woke"!
this show let me down so much when i expected bucky to be the lead they downplayed/nerfed him his story was left out
the writers used the fact that bucky is deprogamated and has PTSD to write it as Sam's SideKick
The Show is also extremely Inconsistent in Power and Ability
The confession to Yori didn't even last a minute! Seriously, fuck the writers!
We need a Bucky show!
Amen to all of this. Bucky was sacrificed on the altar of Black Captain America and woke politics. What a waste.
Rage boils within my soul at Malcolm Spellman for fucking up something he didn't need to fuck up. 🤬🤬
@@Wolffman109 Kevin Feige, not Malcom.
@@Lovemetender757 Malcolm was the lead writer, so I'm mostly blaming him. He made these choices, he wrote these lines, so I'm blaming him. Kevin Feige is still responsible, though as well.
The only thing about this comment that makes sense is the woke politics thing
@@thenexus8384 I'd say the whole comment makes sense, personally.
so i havn't seen any of the marvel shows but i know alot about the characters and i know that a Winter Soldier stand alone show would be far better than this show.
I saw Captain America: Civil War
Even when Bucky was actively trying to avoid killing those people after him, he STILL put up a good fight.
On a rough estimate, also considering college, the best I can aim for is late-April to May
@@reddevilosareviews Alright. No worries. Can't wait!
nobody in the show cares about bucky’s trauma. it’s always put on the back burner for other things. yes, racism is bad, but so is mistreatment of traumatized torture victims, and nobody cares about that part of him… it’s really disappointing
Bucky got the playable character treatment
bucky was nerfed and underused on your own show
Bucky should had gotten the shield maybe then he would had been written better.
Agreed.
They make him look like he's just a normal human and not a literaral trained assasin
Sure. I appreciate the passion you have for this project
@@reddevilosareviews This project deserves my passion.
Out of all the names in Bucky’s “amendment list”, there is one name missing. And it’s the most important one to the story. That name is “Stark”.
Kinda hard to do that when Tony’s dead
Bucky was not at fault or responsible for what Hydra forced him to do! He didn’t choose to be what he was. People need to stop trying to vilify him. Plus the Stark’s were all dead by the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
I don’t understand he’s highly trained us army soldier also , has Russian spezna training and assassin
He shouting be best of best us army produced
Bucky deserves better than this
you're great dude. With experience, your videos will be as good as Mauler's
Nope! But enough about Endgame, let's go on to TFaTWS
The writer admitted that he'd never even watched CA The Winter Soldier.
I've heard he's going to be in this new Thunderbolts movie, but I'm going to spoil myself beforehand - if it's more character assassination, I'll pass.
this has more dislikes than it deserves, such a good analysis, 0 lies whatsoever
Throughout the video, you mentioned the possibility of making other videos showing how this show fucked up. Are those going to come anytime soon?
yeah, I still plan on it. It's just a bit busy with college. I plan to come back to this subject sometime in the fall (particularly how shit Karli is) 😊
@@reddevilosareviews I understand. College is a real bitch. I just completed another summer course and now I only have another week of vacation before my life metaphorically ends again.
@@Wolffman109 Aw man, well best of luck!

I hope I'm not bothering you, but how's progress on the new videos?
Even thought the super soldier serum in bucky in much weaker that that In John walker and tye flag smashers
It still doesn't explain how bucky was portrayed as a weak fighter
if anything bucky and sam should be more understanding of john walker
after all they are soldiers
and definetly they should have their brains because i swear to god you could tell me that these two morons were just alien clones or hydra's cyborgs and i would buy it, they act nothing like they should for those characters
Being just this joke of a character a lot and a lot of instances I don't understand why she's used to be with a stand toe-to-toe with Captain America and other characters but you can't stand toe-to-toe with these inexperienced flag Smashers in his ass getting beaten all the time I didn't like it's just weird to me I mean I hate that they keep making these characters like Captain America and other characters like I'm sorry but Sam Wilson is not Captain America in my opinion and before anybody really disagrees it's not because of Any ethnic thing it's just it's just a weird like it's really weird to me I mean it's like it ready conned with steaks before and I don't know maybe it's just me but I mean Falcon Quan is on you know you don't need to make him Captain America falcon school on his own but they did it in the comics and nobody really left it in the comments either so again I really hope that my intention is not to offend anybody at all I just really do not like this show and if people do get offended I do apologize for that really sincerely I just did not really like this feeling having Sam as Captain America it's really weird calling him Captain America is it really weird to me
To be fair to the fight between them and Walker, Sam DID try to reason with Walker. Walker just proceeded to escalate it.
In regard to Zemo I do feel Bucky should be more upset with him
but that really it
Zemo was not the one who brain wash him
and gave him years of PTSD
I think well have to wait in Thunderbolts to see him back
Somebody needs to send this video to Marvel.
Loved this video so well done.
Concordo com tudo nesse vídeo.
Good stuff.
A lot of Walker praise...
They made Bucky so weak
Embarrassing
I’m convinced this show nerfed Bucky.
Good video fam
The only point I agree with here is that they should have changed his name to White Wolf on the closing credits.
I disagree. I think that he should make the Winter Soldier title his own, and his "
White Wolf" alias should be exclusive to Wakanda.
He was holding back in the truck fight, and even then he still did beat up some of them
Bucky used to be a cool guy they made him such an A--hole in this show
