- "Classical music, poetry, puzzles, crossword puzzles, logic, lateral thinking. I think those are the places from where he draws his optimism." Shaun Evans looks back on his many years playing Endeavour Morse, and what exactly makes the beloved detective who he is. #endeavourpbs #masterpiecepbs #masterpiecemystery #shaunevans

Thank you Masterpiece Mystery for bringing us 9 years of Endeavor. Thank you to all the directors, producers, writers and everyone who had a part of this show. Special thanks to the cast and most especially Shaun Evan's who without him there would be no Endeavor Morse.❤
I loved this show. So sorry to see it end. Thank you so much to the cast and crew that gave us such wonderful memories and entertainment ❤️
Love Endeavour. So much deeper and complex than so many of the British mysteries. Sad to know it's the final season. But as they always say on the show, "Needs, must." Also love Shaun's Liverpudlian accent!!❤❤
😢I will miss you 😅and all who make our Lives better with your program
I love it, too!
Shaun brought his own native intelligence to that role. That helped to give it depth beyond the excellent though sometimes sparse writing for his character. He conveyed volumes without ever emoting or delivering long monologues. It took an actor of his caliber to do that. A singular accomplishment.
This series has been spectacular. Thank you to all who made this magnificent series possible.
Shaun was brilliant in this role. Hope he enjoyed it and looking forward to seeing him in more works soon.
Hearing Shaun's real voice still surprises me.. proof of a real actor
Absolutely
Thank you for bringing season 9. From America. I love this show. Better quality production than most American shows.
I will miss Endeavour (the series and the character) so much!
Absolutely love Shaun Evans...and hearing his natural Liverpool accent is awesome in this interview.
Yes)
We need more interviews with Shaun Evans. As more as possible. He is the superb actor. Incomparable.
I love Shaun’s normal accent, that soft Liverpudlian. I could listen to him talk all day.
It was a great series, script, cast, production, acting. Well done. Kudos to all.
Still the very best of British TV. So glad the DVDs are available. Probably will not get tired of rewatching and rewatching. Like Game, Set, and Match.....
The epitome of a polished, brilliantly written crime series that outshines anything that the US could possibly conjure up in their limited brains! Thank you a thousand times over for the many years of sheer suspense, intrigue, intellectual dialogue and highly skilled acting that I ever have witnessed! I’m quite appreciative ♥️♥️♥️
Добре казано!! Съгласна!!!🎉
I don't believe American screenwriters have limited brains, but I have enjoyed Endeavor.
@@grt764as an American I love L&O the mother ship. I'm so glad they brought it back a few years ago with a great cast. I don't think everything we produce is bad because some series like L&O get high ratings in the U. K. Several years ago they had a show called L&O:U.K. I enjoyed watching it, but the Brits usually do drama and mysteries better than we do. Morse, Lewis, and Endeavour are all so fun and well written and I always enjoy watching them. And I also agree that not all American screenwriters have limited brains. I hate people who generalize. It's like anywhere else we're not all homogeneous.
Too demanding for a big American audience. How many have ever done a crossword? Not enough gunplay either. It is the very best of British.
I’ve just finished watching the last episode, and I’m in the biggest shock of my entire life. I need someone to talk to. I need to break my shed and jump into nowhere 😢. Such a masterpiece 🥂
I have absolutely loved this series and am so so so ad its over. Congrats to all who worked on this series.
Each episode was a real treat for the viewer. The writing, the acting, the scenery….. It all came together- sumptuous. 👍👍👍👍👍
One of the best shows on TV
I am commenting here to admit that I already miss this show! Usually I would go back to watch a show I liked from season 1 but I don’t think I have the emotional strength to watch Morse and his melancholy especially the last season. The last few minutes of the finale had me in tears. Maybe it’s not so deep but it does feel like it. The actors did a phenomenal job especially Shaun Evans. I hope to see him more on the screen in other shows or movies. Also how do these people get their accents right so well. I have heard both Shaun and Sara Vickers speak in their native accents and was astounded at how different they sounded on the show. Thanks PBS for this true masterpiece!
I've started again. To be honest, I never gave it much credence in the first few series but after that last episode...I just had to start all over again. It will have a different meaning now. Also I love Autumn, almost the slight melancholy of falling leaves suits this series. It's perfect!
This series has been phenomenal, so well written and a fantastic cast. The final episode and scene was beautiful. Thanks to all involved for making the best drama ever 🙏
Kudos to everyone involved in this production. The Brits do this sort of thing sooooo well....
I LOVE Endeavor❤ I will miss this show so much! In the end I understood the disappointment of Endeavor and Joan, even though I truly wanted them to be that lovely couple! This series has just been lovely, and most of all really just a beautiful 9 years of just seeing how in the end no one is perfect, how life can put you in situations that really force you to do things you would never even think of! Great, great, actor's! All were just magnificent! Endeavor saved Thursday, and let him see just what a true friend and wise man in the end Endeavor truly was! i love Endeavor Morse!
Thursday saved Endeavour, too. That's a nice thing you wrote. I'm guessing you never watched "Inspector Morse" because I knew they would never be a couple since Morse never married. It was a shame, but he realized that he waited too long. Joan told him she couldn't wait around. 😢
I did watch Inspector Morse. But since this was about Endeavour it just seemed so right for them to be together! But I did understand! I truly hope Mr. Evans does another series as he’s just tops! Actually all actors in the series are tops! I still miss it to this day😔❤️
@@elizabethlazcano5357 I agree that it seemed right, but I just new it wasn't going to happen. I wish Endeavour/Morse could have found someone to take care of because that's what he wanted. After Joan I liked Monica a lot. She was pretty, smart and as a nurse she could also take care of him and he would protect her, but he ruined it just like he did with Joan. A lot of it he did himself because he put work first, but we all wish he could have been with a patient and loving woman. I would have given him a try lol 🥰😍 Shaun already has a new role, but he plays an abusive boyfriend or husband. I don't know if I can watch him like that, but we'll be seeing him.
I loved Endeavor and hope someday the creator will be inspired to bring him back again. It was my very favorite show and Shaun is a brilliant actor!
Sehr gute liebevolle Rollen Beschreibung/Erklärung.Danke Shaun Evans.❤
Shaun is a wonderful actor!
Please, Mister Shaun Evans, give us back your Morse! I adopted him internally from the start. I suffered with him and I suffered because of him. Of course, I also admired him or sometimes criticized him. I just can't give up and forget him! - I would have wished him so much an intelligent and empathetic woman as a permanent partner, who would gradually break through his "fortress".
I knew he was from Liverpool but didn’t realise he had a “proper” Scouse accent!!! Brilliant 😮
I want more Endeavor with Shaun. Have to go through withdrawal.
When I moved to Australia from the US I first watched the British mysteries and this one was my hands down favorite in all ways. Endeavour wins on all levels as well.
This man is out of this world 💘✨
Obvious thing to say but what a really strong cast and when you give them good writing then look at what they can do. Wonderful work.
He's a good looking guy and what a great cast! "Endeavour"is my favourite out of the three.
Sure will miss your complicated character, Shaun. And looking forward to what lies ahead in your acting endeavors. Wink, wink. Thanks to you and all the cast for such a quality series.
I am going to miss this series. great production
Love, love, love this brilliant series!
Wonderful show!❤
My all time favourite series. I have watched every episode at least 5 times. Can’t wait to go for the last episodes soon. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇩🇪
It's always funny hearing Brits speak in their natural accent. Cuz most Americans don't realize that when they're acting they're often using an "accent".
He is very Scouse-y, isn't he? 😁
@@drtmuir lol...yes
@@drtmuirI love his Liverpudlian accent. I always think of The Beatles when I think of a Scouse lol.
Intelligent coppers, and about bloody time, mind, it's been going for a while now. Love the show.
Shaun Evans just did an absolutely stellar job playing Morse, and I like his version of Morse much more than the older guy's version. I didn't like how Thursday was treating him until the very end, and I didn't get the red Jaguar thing or whose eyes were in the rearview mirror.
That was John Thaw(the older guy as you put it) of course! That scene was meant to symbolize Endeavour moving ahead and the transformation to Morse(who drove the iconic red jag). Fun fact: John Thaw was pretty much Shaun Evans’ age when the first season of Inspector Morse was released!
@@aprilblossoms4no, John Thaw died in 2002 at the age of 60 from esophageal cancer. He was around 45 when Inspector Morse started in 1987 and died 18 months after the show ended in 2000. I think Shaun was 32 when Endeavour started so that's about a 14 year difference. John Thaw looked much older than Shaun did.
They've shown the scene when Endeavour looks into the rear view mirror and a couple of seconds later you see John Thaw or "Inspector Morse" look in the mirror. I agree with the other commenter about him passing himself on the way out. It's symbolism like when he's in the cemetery and shoots Thursday's gun. It's symbolic of him starting over. He never mentiones Fred Thursday again to protect him and started a new job without everyone else except Jim Strange who eventually becomes his Chief Superintendent. I like "Inspector Morse", but I agree with you that " Endeavour" was much better. "Endeavour" is my favourite and then" Inspector Lewis" then "Morse." I've heard a lot of people say they prefer "Endeavour" and "Lewis" over "Morse" so we're not alone 😊. Take care.
All Actors very brilliant in this series.
Por favor pongan ya los siguientes capitulos de esta magnifica serie.😢
I will miss this series!
My favourite show it wii be missed
Milujem tento seriál 💞😊
The Scouse accent ❤
I Really love it ! What about the first name : "Endeavour"? What a curiosity !
Mother was a Quaker, innit? Perfect name for his character and the show, on so many levels. Use a good dictionary.
@@skonther0ckwhat does "Endeavour" have to do with being a Quaker? Are they long-suffering?
@@l.plantagenet Quakers we’re given to naming their children Honesty, Honor, Integrity, Zealous. Unusual compared to contemporary names.
@@skonther0ck thank you for responding. I had no idea. 👍
I heard recently that Morse said his father was a boatman and they named their boats....so his father named him Endeavour.
maybe shaun and sara vickers could play an onscreen couple in another project completly seperate from endeavour might not be as good but it would be close enough to seeing morse and joan as an item
So good. When/where can we watch in Canada please? Be well.
He's so very cute and sensuous !
I caught an accent in Sean’s voice but I didn’t for one minute think it was a scouse accent , he was brilliant in this part , and the entire cast as well ,
Wow, how weird to hear him talking in a strong Scouse accent! Wonderful series - all of it. ❤
❤❤❤
Endeavour series for me (dare I Say) was better than Morse but without that no Endeavour. 🤷♀️
..
Hey, no ! Don’t tell we have not seen it still now! ❤❤❤
put a scouse lad and scottish lass together and what do you get? morse and joan in an alternate universe lol
I accept all that, but Strange with Joan? Come on! Not once did I sense any chemistry between these two--they absolutely have no common ground. She dated a cop in the beginning of the series because she thought her dad would accept her choice in men. They could have come up with someone else for her to really fall in love with.
hell yeah i'm with you there on that one they could of paired her up with someone she met on secondment who wasnt a copper. one of her collegues at the welfare for example or someone she knew at the bank. or failing that a soldier (because i often thought joan would be convincing as a soldiers wife rather than a coppers wife and plus i remember seeing sara vickers play a soldiers love interest in a short lived bbc drama called privates). what were the writers bloody thinking marrying joan off to strange?
Yeah, I totally agree. Especially since she was kinda dismissive about being with a copper(also due to her dad being one). They didn't like talking about his job so it's so weird for her to end with Strange... Eh, and it got on my nerves how Strange kept calling Morse matey.. I would have prefered if she just got married with a man who's not a police officer. Still sad that Joan and Morse never got together - I really think part of Morse's reason why he never made a move was out of respect for Thursday(Fred)
@@omdhdk You have to remember that this was a prequel to "Morse' and he wasn't married but I agree that this was a pairing that didn't seem right
@@dhdavidholloway I know, but it's still stupid imo to have Joan end up with Strange. The scene where Strange start to talk about police work at the dinner table at the Thursdays were so bad and awkward.... There was one rule in that room and Strange just ignores it and everyone seems to be fine with that?
@@omdhdk yeah and his nan didnt look very keen on joan and the looks of doubt on joans face just spoke volumes
Liked this show, only thing that could have made Morse more Morse is more classical music, I missed that :)
It’s weird hearing him with a Scouse accent in real life.
MASTERPIECE PBS, great writing, excellent direction and outstanding acting in the series Endeavour!
And yet, an extremely unconvincing development of Morse's relationship on a personal level - according to him, intelligence and personal happiness are incompatible concepts?!
I don't believe that in Scotland or Wales this is characteristic of young people, rather in England and hardly unreal in Europe.
Being smart and a gentleman, having an analytical mind and an iron logical thought does not mean that you cannot love and be a happy person.
I am so sorry about Joan's illogical marriage! She deserves to be with Morse!
مورس
yeah, Shaun didn't really get it.
Speravo che alla fine Morse sposasse Joan
