I’ll never forget that scene where young Endeavor looks in the rear view mirror and sees old John Thaw’s eyes looking back. So brilliant.
I agree with you.
Genius production
Yup that made me cry..
What a thoughtful homage
That was as moving as the very last episode of Morse.
My husband and I were faithful followers of Endeavor and Morse over the years. Sadly, my husband was terminally ill and died just a week before the last season of Endeavor began. I managed to watch this last season alone through a lot of tears. It was such a bittersweet ending for the both of us.
my deepest condolences. After my mother passed away in 2009, I found it almost impossible to watch any of the soap operas she used to enjoy and after my dad passed, it was hard to rewatch some of our favourite films again. It's the little things like that , hit you the hardest sometimes.
@@swanvictor887 ... thank you for your kind words. Yes, little things become triggers for grief. Someday I hope looking back on the things we enjoyed, will bring comfort rather than sorrow. Hope that you are doing okay.
@@katrinakitty52 Thanks, I'm ok, luckily I was married by the time my folks past and I soon left the UK for my wife's country, Brunei, in Asia. But like most Welshmen, we are close to our family and despite the fact its been over a decade, I still feel their loss: I was lucky with my parents, they were diamonds. In fact, my late mum's birthday is on the 14th : she would have been 81 and boy, that would have annoyed her to be so old! I hope you get to watch those reruns and think just how nice it was to share that time with your late partner, and smile as you watch them with just a single tear perhaps, but I'm sure your late husband would want you to be Happy. Live for Him and remember fondly. Be well and best wishes from Brunei.
@@swanvictor887 .... thanks and good karma to you always.
My most heartfelt sympathy to you on the passing of your husband.
I will miss this show so much! Endeavor was one of a kind. I just wish he had married Joanie. Every character was amazing, had their own niche. “Shall we say 2 o’clock?” “Mind how you go.” Lights out. 😢
that bloody dream sequence was the closest we got to seeing morse and joan together. i bet there were a lot morse/joan shippers that probably want to punch the writers now
Yes, I wished he would have married Joan. He did ask.
But of course, they had to stay true to the full arc of Morse's private life. If the two characters had married this series would not have been a prequel to the original, starring John Thaw.
Home
Oh yes I too wish he had married Joanie❤
Beautiful last season. Hate to see this one come to an end. Very seldom does a series develop into such a masterpiece. Every character is as loved as the next; true art when every character is developed into a critical piece of the puzzle. Sad, sad, sad to see this one end.
Roger Allam and Anton Lesser, two great men of the theater, giggling together like kids. ❤️
👏👏👏👏👏👏
The writing and production values are par excellence. You cant get this sort of excellence on Network television
Er it's made by ITV
@@fobstaa What does that mean to us?? It’s obviously NOT a network we can get here in the US! In case you didn’t notice, this is the RUclips channel for MASTERPIECE on PBS, a public US educational channel.
@@salyluz6535having a bad day ? You are quite rude aren’t you? Bless your heart 💜
Just sign up for the public broadcasting in your area. We have WUCF from Orlando. We watched Sanditon, all creatures great and small, Marie Antoinette and next is GrantChester. PBS is only $70 a year and all the best shows are from the BBC. You want to see more good British television, there is also Britbox and Acorn. Both of these are by subscription. I don’t watch any American television. The British always throw in a same sex couple. Not my cup of tea, but the acting is superb.
Edith Lefel, forever !
I’ve watched all the productions from the original Morse to the last bonus of the ninth season O.D. Endeavor. I’m 70. What a brilliant journey to get lost in. The quality of all involved over the years is unmatched. I’m ever so grateful. Especially after the pandemic depression and feeling like America’s democracy is hanging by a thread. I personally needed GOOD WINS OVER INSANITY.
I agree. I've watched them all. Morse, Lewis and Endeavor. What a great series.
Me too 😊
The good news is with age comes forgetfulness so I'll start watching them all again in a year or two 😂
@@rockingroby6060 YES! And what good watching it will be.
I cried when I saw John Thaws eyes in the tear view mirror, in his beloved Jag
Thank you for that tribute to him
What a fantastic series the Morse episodes are.
All of them. From John Thaw to Shaun Evans
😢
Truly so indeed.
Yes, so poignant.
Shaun has a great walk in that long coat! He would be a real catch. Quotes from your 71 year old fan! Made my Sundays a joy!
Agree . He walks like a male model ( shoulders stretched back) and his whole posture.
He walks like a dancer, light of foot and with an elegant carriage.
I am so glad John Thaw’s daughter was part if this. Having watched all of Morse and Lewis this show was a gem! Thank you all for your beautiful work! - - - - - •-• ••• •
Endeavour was some of the best television I have seen - ever, and I'm 73 years old! Great work from everyone concerned. And that last scene, where the black Jag and the red one passed, and we see the flash of John Thaw's eyes in the mirror - absolutely brilliant, took my breath away.
So sad to see it all end. After the finale (which was perfect), I had to go back and rewatch Ep. 4 of Season 2 to refresh my memory of Blenheim Vale. This show has been such a gift to us all and I'm so grateful that we'll be able to watch reruns on PBS for years to come. Shaun Evans deserves so many kudos for his performances and directing skills. I look forward to watching him in anything he participates in.
Splendid ending; won't give it away but yes a fitting tribute to you all and RIP John Thaw, Barrington Pheloung, and Colin Dexter.
Never get tired of Endeavor repeats. Best series on TV. Everything about it was perfection. Loved it.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
@@franklinstephen3268 I'm good. How about you?
@@corinnewebb6424 I’m doing great thanks, it’s nice meeting with you here. Where are you located?
I loved the way that they picked actors that so closely resembled Jim Strange and Dr DeBryn in their later years in Morse. The most poignant thing was when Endeavour was looking into his car mirror right at the end and we see John Thaw's eyes. I have to admit I had to blow my nose a few times. It's a series I will really miss.
My favourite. I will miss the whole cast. English mysteries are the best! Mind how you go!
Sad to see the series end but the bits with Roger and Anton out of character are delightful.
i loved seeing them in foyles war and potc 4
Sad that this great show has ended😭
Truly the end of an era. We watched all the Morse seasons, and then Lewis, and now this one is ending. What are we going to do? Thank you for all the delightful times.
I watched the series finale last night & I’m still thinking about it. Love the time period, the Oxford setting, the actors and the writing.
Last night I watched the final (and by far the best, in my view) episode of Endeavor - a heartbreaking, elegiac, worthy ending, from which I’m still struggling to recover. It roused all my deepest feelings about the relentlessness of change, of moving on, of lost opportunities and missed loves and of things that can never be put right, despite our sincere efforts, and of the honor of duty and integrity. Those eternal lines from The Tempest and the “In Paradisum” from the Faure Requiem were achingly beautiful grace notes. And the passing cars and eyes in the rearview nearly finished me off. The three gents at the heart of the story, and the glorious actors who played them, will live on in my heart. Beautifully done, everyone, and all my best wishes and thanks.
Spot ON!
Beautifully said
i’m still emotionally distraught over the series finale yesterday, cannot believe such an amazing series has come to an end. kudos to everyone involved, thank you, thank you, thank you. still hoping tho that maybe in the future, a special movie could be made of the reunion or a continuation of endeavour’s story, before he properly becomes inspector morse ❤️
We love english detective stories in Sweden 🇸🇪. It has been wonderful to watch this show! But it was heartbreaking that Morse didnt end up with his love Joan! Thank you for your excellent show! Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thank you, and we are learning to enjoy your detective dramas here in the UK, they are excellent. Such atmosphere, and the scenery 👌
Very sorry for this to end. I watched episode 3 this morning and was surprised at the ending which showed the older Morse in a car passing him. ❤️
There’s always reruns!!
Fantastic series, actually shed tears when in his imagination at her wedding, he kissed her and finally told her how much he had always loved her. Was brilliant moment
What a master class in acting this series has been. I’ve loved them all, but the striking thing to me has been Anton’s stillness, his character a father figure who remains the bedrock of calm and dignity while all around him blow the winds of strife and change. It’s been beautiful. Thank you all.
❤
This was such an amazing show and the final episode was brilliant as soon as it was over I wanted to go and rewatch all nine seasons again I'm definitely going to miss the show in my opinion it's one of the best tv shows in the last ten years hat's off to all involved in making this show it was absolutely brilliant
This was such an amazing series I have to admit I had a tear in my eye knowing that it was over wishing all the actors staff crew all the very best in the future you sure did a very good job with this production😅
Like the title reads: Farewell Endeavor. You gave the public the best you had. Thank you. Hope to see you in future endeavors.
Last episode just aired last night in Canada and I’m missing them all already. I’ll have to start from the beginning.
With this ending really comes the ending-- and it really is tough for me to grasp it- I guess mainly because I am so much older than what I was when I first saw my first Morse episode and the real world now is so different - have enjoyed these past years with Endeavour and reading all the comments…….take care🙏❤️
Hello how are you doing?
So very true
Brilliantly cast, written, acted. Simply the best TV has to offer. We'll be lucky to see its like again. I won't hold my breath.
The BBC/ITV has so much to offer. Give them a chance to show you all they have on PBS. Grantchester (which is on season 8), sanditon, miss Scarlett and the Duke, Annika, Vandervalk, All creatures great and small (which is taping season 4) are all wonderful shows. Check them out. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Wonderful show - feel like I'm losing a group of close friends. Thank you to everyone who made this such an amazing production.
I’ve loved every scene and will miss them all! But, since I’m such a baby, I’ll start the show from the beginning and NOT watch the final show for a very long time! Thank you Masterpiece for all the wonderful television! Let’s never say Farewell Endeavour!❤
No, watch the final show. It's such a treat.❤❤❤❤❤
It took me four months to watch the final episode. Just watched it a day ago. I put off watching it because I didn't want it to be over. 😢
What an ending to such an incredible series. The last scene just about did me in.
I sat here in front of the tv, saying 'please do it again, please do it again.' And then it happened. John Thaw's eyes in the rearview mirror. Just like in the first episode of the whole series. Brilliant.
And so fitting. I am going to miss it so very much.
Gorgeous, from the writing, to the characters, the actors, the musical themes, the sets, costumes and all of it. One of the best series ever. Inspector Morse would be proud.
From Morse, through Lewis, and then Endeavour they all make up a unique body of work. Unique has to be the word because I suspect that there will never be a more original and long running detective series as this one. At every level from story, through acting, through direction, and so on, it has gripped us all across the world as great television. It had to come to an end but what an amazingly brilliant ride it was.!!
The best. I will miss the show terribly. Thank you to all the actors and everyone involved. Greetings from Canada.
One way folks can help deal with the “Endeavor” finale which came too soon is to help themselves *and* PBS by buying the DVD set through PBS itself. A most worthwhile cause as they help us escape some of the craziness of our world & we help them financially. I also like having a lovely library of great quality series/programs to enjoy over again to also share & leave to my family.
Or just donate to PBS, and then you get access to their streaming library.
I am SO sad. Can’t even bring myself to watch the final episode yet😢😢😢😢
Sí ella eligio a Stranger, en la temporada 8 ya me di cuenta, me dio mucha pena el final, muy triste
Have tissues handy. 😢
I was exactly the same Kate kept putting it off 😊
Wow what a great Cast I’m a fan of Inspector Morse and the Late Great John Thaw When I first heard they were going to make a Prequel of Endevour Morse I thought How dare they I must admit that I watched Endeavor Series and truly loved every minute of it What a MEGA MASTERPIECE ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The nod to the great John Thaw made me shed a tear.
I have downloaded the beautiful ‘Morse Theme’ composed by the inimitable Barrington Pheloung. I still cry sometimes when i play it after ‘Morse’ ended.
Great actors + great writers + great directors and crew = great entertainment. Thanks for the memories.
Such an elegant, fun, and beautifully created series. I just learned that Abigail Thaw is John Thaw's daughter. When he died it felt like a dear uncle had died. May he rest in peace. Thank you.
I shall miss the unrivalled writing and performances. But, most of all, each script challenged my brain well beyond any crossword puzzle!
Agreed💯
Love this series and I am sorry to see it go. That ending was fnatastic
Absolutely loved the change over when he looks in the rear vision mirror and sees himself in 20 years. Totally perfect finish. Amazing series.
This was such a delightful series. I loved the original Morse and I loved the Lewis series too. Endeavor was a cut above both, though, with elegant writing, terrific characters, and compelling stories. Bravo to all!
Very much enjoyed this series. The last scene, where the two Morse characters pass each other in their Jaguars, was so very moving to someone who watched both series with complete enjoyment. Thank you to everyone who brought us these jewels.
What a gorgeous end to a beautiful series. What could have been for Joan and Morse. That final shot was exquisite.
i was hoping for a parting shot of the dreaming spires but this shot was good too
With this show ending I feel as if I'm losing friends. Such great writing and acting .😢
I would get quite teary when Thursday said " Mind how you go" because my late Dad used to say that.
i always imagined thursday being killed off with that phrase being put on his gravestone
A great show that I'll dearly miss. The acting , the story lines were second to none. I will have to go back and watch every season, just to bring back the memories. That is one of the good things about retirement. You can do things like that. LOL.
With the beautiful music of Barrington Pheloung. We should remember him also.
I adore them all ❤
I only started watching about a season or two ago. It’s so beautifully written and acted. I’ll miss this series. Thank you all for taking us along and letting us immerse ourselves in your world.
Everything about Endeavor met or exceeded the high bars set by the Morse and Lewis series. I’m so sorry to see this program end! My warmest thanks and best wishes for all the actors who made this series so special!
Wonderful series......and a very clever explanation of why Thursday is not mentioned in Morse. Goodbye Endeavor you will be missed
I will miss the show & cast. It was wonderful. I watched every episode.
I will miss so much Endeavour. Such a great show..
brilliant acting..
mystery, drama, opera, history, nostalgia, detectives, love, family..all in one show..
Thank you to all Endeavour Family..❤
I'm going to miss this series and the. outstanding cast--one of the best Masterpiece series ever.
Agree- beautiful final season; I am going to miss this series, the characters and actors; so very special; series like this don't come along very often; right up there with Downton Abbey ~ top notch
Hello how are you doing?
Endeavour is the best drama on TV its brilliant as are all the casts especially lovely Shaun Evans x he is well worth watchingx
What is about this program? As we entered the last episodes, and then the very last, I found myself tearing up! Now explain that to me if you will? I have loved all the persons of Endeavor, I didn’t realize how much so. As each new season approached I felt anticipation bubbling up as the first episode was shown on our public television station. The theme music has always been something that fed the anticipation as well. I imagine at some point when able I will have to purchase the entire series to be able to revisit anytime. I have watched pbs since the days of Upstairs Downstairs and loved many series over all those years, Endeavour is and always will be among the few at the top of my list. You ALL will be missed! Thank EVERYONE involved in the production of this series!!
Loved this program and most of Masterpiece. I look forward to the next great program!
one of the best shows ever , superbly written and the soundtrack download it!
What an extraordinary cast - and crew. People devoted to their craft. A legacy. That's what they leave. Kudos to Russell Lewis, the writer, and the crew and everyone involved. What superb job - well done.
One of the absolute best television ever. Great cast. Great stories, great dialogue, character study, makes other "crime" shows pale in comparison. Will watch again for sheer pleasure. Thank you to All.♥️
Noooo never let it end😭💔love every aspect of this series. Love from Rosie O from Devon England 👏👏🇬🇧
I deeply loved this series.
One of the best shows ever.
Oh how I hated to see this one end. I was emotionally involved in it, in all the characters. The final scene with the two Jaguars was BRILLIANT!!!😢 ❤
Thanks to producers, crew and cast for so much happiness.
The Wednesday sandwich special!! 😢❤
Loved this series. The acting, the sets, and this last one the amazing lines. I want to write them down for the future. Loved the Latin as well. There was one especially when Endeavor says he did not expect thing to change or something to that effect and it is oh so true. Please do more like this!
Hello how are you doing?
Fantastic series! I always looked forward to the next series and was always sad when that one ended. Brilliant acting and producing. You Brits do drama series' to perfection! ❤🇦🇺
Absolutely brilliant show and I really hate it´s ending! Top notch acting and directing and every role is so perfect in it´s own way. Sean, Roger, Anton and all the cast, we will miss you dearly!
Easily one of the best detective shows for a long time. I watch repeats on ITVX and never get fed up with watching again.
I found Endeavor by accident and couldn't stop watching till the entire series was over. I'm so glad I found it, (them) and sometimes just keep it on in the house as I'm cleaning up.
Brought a tear to my eye to see it all end..
I loved the ending seeing John Thaw in the rear view window. Very well done. Poignant. Grabbed my heart it did. Thank you all for such a wonderful series.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Fan since the original. Thank you Colin Dexter, Russel Lewis, and B. Pheulong. "Shall we say 2 o'clock?" So nice of all the bodies to show up in the morning for Dr. DeBryn! 😂
I loved this show. And I loved Morse.
Anton Lesser is such a wonderful actor. Beautiful.
I love that series, sad that it's over.
It’s a very sad day for me. My first child was brought into the world while I was watching the first series, and each time the following series came out some sort of life changing experience happened. I feel I have a connection to this character and coming to the realisation that this is the end is quite difficult. I’ve loved it for decades, and that includes Lewis and sergeant, Hathaway. Thank you to all the cast and crew for decades of a very fine show.
Absolutely miss this series!! One of the very best !!
Glad to see everyone enjoying themselves here. Going to really miss this show. Amazing job by everyone and a very well done finale
I love each character. I am going to watch it again if I get a chance. Endeavour and older Morse are my guys!
So often the music that was chosen echoed the events of the story. I recall watching with a friend when Un bel di from Butterfly reached our ears…me “gonna be a suicide”. I loved these musical clues. Excellent series.
Oh my goodness just finished the last show and it was so well done. Great job everyone. We will continue to watch so please keep running the show. Great cast
What a great show!!! Probably the best now a days.
A lovely cast, a lovely show, as a greedy viewer I want it to go on endlessly, yes I know, selfish, but they were all so good...
I was so so sad when the Endeavour finale aired back in the spring in the UK, and even more so now that it’s aired in America. It feels so much more final! But what a wonderful show and cast, and a brilliant story. I especially look forward to seeing Shaun Evans in other things 😊
I would love a spin-off series with Abigail Thaw as the lead. I find her such a strong actress and love her character in the show.
they should have given her character a better exit she doesnt get mentioned in the old show i always imagined her retiring from the oxford mail and taking a job with the news of the world because that paper was still going in the 60s and 70s
I think that’s a brilliant idea.
I love ❤all of the characters, but my two favorites are Fred Thursday (always want to say Friday) and Dr. Max DeBryn. And, that last scene of the young and older Morse intersecting on the drive, made me cry. What a wonderful ending to a great series!
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Thank you for 9 great seasons. Love the attention to detail, drama, and suspense.
I will really miss this show, it was excellent and I loved all of them.
Since the end of the final episode we have re-watched the entire series again. The story arc is wonderfully put together, top marks to the writer
A Damn fine show ,well done ,shame to see it end .
A wonderful series, so well conceived and well acted. There are many beautiful touches to the characters and relationships: Win Thursday's day of the week sandwiches, Max's "shall we say 2 o'clock?", the John Thaw allusions, brilliant conversations between Mr Bright and Fred Thursday, Joan and Jim and many more. It has been a treat start to finish and the best evocation of an era, to my mind. Great to see the cast getting on so well and having much enjoyed their roles and involvement. Thank you!
I will miss them ALL! GREAT FINAL SHOW!
Shaun would make a wonderful Bond!
Sorry to see it end. Such talented actors.
