It was 😉 the only thing is you gotta have a crew to roll with and a van or lil pickup for a 4' launch ramp. Kicker ramps are fun, but launch ramps are some dedication. and most places will shut you down as soon as everybody starts enjoying themselves 😢
My first skate video that I saw ..... and with which I fell in love with skateboarding ..... and when I saw Rodney "the mutt"mullen.... I thought: I want to skate like him .... and I started skating every day .... I was 15 years old ... now I am 40 years old ... and I continue to skate .... that time was great .. .we were true skaters at heart
I’m 41 so same age. Bones Brigade video show was my first video. My uncle had this. Skate or die! My youngest is ripping now and I’m still out here shredding!
Those 80s half pipes always looked so perfect and beautifully crafted on video. I skated a few Half pipes and Qtrs in my day and they were sketch @best, screws stickin out and shit
Haha! I had 2 copies on VHS. I should have them sign the unopened copy. I still get to skate with some of these guys from time to time. This was one I watched to pump me up living in rural midwest at the time.
Now we are stuck with it 😮💨 30 years of popsicle boards and commies.😮💨 VERT WILL ALWAYS BE KING ! 540 OVER YOUR DOME! Thank God I live in opeongo,Ontario
Watching any footage of late 70s early 80s skating from US as a kid in UK we were always so envious of the smoothness of the roads and pavements ( sidewalks )
East coast skating could be pretty gnarly, that aggregate concrete with rocks in the cement, and just gravel everywhere. There were some smooth spots, but a lot of the streets were harsh in the 80's where I grew up -Pennsylvania. LA schoolyards though! Super slick. We were jealous too.
I have this on VHS. Haven't watched it in over 30 years because I don't have a VCR. Alas, RUclips to the rescue! Thanks for posting. Brought back lots of great memories.
I had this tape as a kid, dont remember where I got it, may have been a scholastic book fair but I remember I was kinda let down that it didn’t show how to do stunts and it was more a demo tape, but this was a view into the California skate scene a kid from KS was never gonna see otherwise, getting to Christian Hosoi, Lance Mountain, and other on tape was pretty awesome
Rodney Mullen at 5 minutes. He's not mentioned as staring in the video. It also showed Mike McGill right before it. I think Rodney invented the kick flip and Ollie in the 80s. I have this VHS I bought at a Wal-Mart around 1987. I watched it so much I know the words to the cheap music.
If you’re watching this video, I want you to try to imagine being eight years old in 1988 sitting in the living room on your skateboard on the floor watching this video until the tape wears out, now you have a picture of me as a child🔥🤙🏼😎💯
@@chrisbrown387 Ha. Yeah, that's about it. A 30 year old trick that no one can seem to get over. Most unoriginal skate trick ever. Todays skaters do NOTHING original. Its all just early 90s on repeat. Doing tiny circles around each other. Its sad what it became. It lost its essence. The whole gig is just a cliché now. Jaime Matau does ok tho. Not many others get it. Eric Winkowski, Andy Anderson. Thats about it. A couple of others. Pretty sad. There is no Gonz today. No Jeff Phillips. Gonz STILL skates better than most today, and hes in his 50s.
Damn. Let's bring back launch ramps! Amazing .

I watched this video many times on VHS growing up during the 1980s. It got me pumped to go out skating.
80s skateboarding was like lightning in a bottle. Amazing aesthetics. Hosoi and cab were so smooth and stylish.
The soundtrack is insane!!

Same with me, first video I ever owned. Fell in love with skating immediately too. I was 5 years old. True skaters at heart💯
Wow, amazing story man🤙
I pulled off my first superstunt when I was 12, and I'm 60 and still pulling off gnarly superstunts.

always need to be relayered, holes in the tranny? plastic coping.
Love the quote about skateboarding not being in the Olympics. Wow, how far skateboarding has come!
Those guys who rode for Banana Boards back in the day. Those were the real guys!
I have been looking for this movie for ever 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

I remember getting this for either a xmas or birthdaybakc around 1990. My first ever skate vid!!
I watched this video just about everyday growing up. Still makes me want to go skate.
This was life was at its best.
Awesome video. Love the car with skaters blasting through the stop sign in the rich neighborhood.
I loved seeing rob in the credit also ☺️
Ah man! I forgot about this video! Sweet!
Nothing like vintage boarding
Jeezus, that 360 Judo air by Hosoi at 7:43 was gnarly
35 years later and I still fast forward through the freestyle parts. Lol
😂
Now we are stuck with it 😮💨

Love it ...I am only 3 minutes into it too

it’s half and half here some roads are nice and smooth others you feel like a human vibrator

The launch ramp era

Everything was better back in the 80s
Still have this gem on vhs. 7:37 love it.

@@ArcHiveChannel thank you for posting it my friend 🙏🏻🔥🤙🏼😎💯
I still have the vhs of this!
That's were this upload came from. My original VHS.
Me too, just no VCR to watch it
Holy f it’s the skate vide from when I was a kid
A different time, but sweet video effects! That digital skater almost crashed right thru my tube tv!😮
Super rad
Don't miss those copyright warnings and fbi piracy threats, but man were they nostalgic 😂
Hosoi and that damn wig
i still have the VHS
So sick
I like it too. Good times.
The credits and warning were half the vhs lol 😂
Havnt seen this since I was 11 yrd old. I saw it in the Sears catalog and had to have it for Xmas- along with Schmitt Stixx "Lets Go Skate" video.....
time warp
... Then the next day, Rodney Mullen appeared on "That's incredible" and the rest is history.
No skater from the 80s cares about Mullen. He was a gimmick. Skaters of today just dont get it.
@@mackash DO A KICK FLIP!🤣😂😆

Sk8boardings come along way from sawing "someones" skate in half
Lot's of gnarly stuff but to me 16:56 was a pretty crazy boneless.
bro, this is amazing. I fell in love with old school skateboarding because of this video. What is the name of the song in 5:45 ?? pleeeease
“DANGER IN THE STREETS”

@@ArcHiveChannel thanks!!! I still can't find the original either on youtube or google. but it's good to know.
@@ArcHiveChannel I paused the credits to find out the artist but sad that the single doesn’t seem to be released anywhere after a quick search.
😢 this track is unicorn...
14:09 which song is this wished born in 80s in AMERIKA
“Street Dancer” R. Conway and D. De Vincent. Stated in the credits.
Yo, did u find the record yet? Wonder if anyone did.
So many uncredited skaters!
4:05 there will always be snakes in skateboarding.
Forever.
Haha, glad you caught that too. Thought it was a 3D Bones Brigade shirt for a second 😂
1:32
18:01 there is a ghostly face in the bushes on the mountain
It sorta looks like Flea.
Name song? 13:13
0:53 whats the song
Songs are listed in the credits. Hope that helps 👍🏼
1980’s style kills 2020’s style
5:25 Geez Rodney, WTF is that called?
kooking out.
Do you know the song for the intro?
I guess it’s just generic music. It says music by... at the beginning.
Done
The narration and music is so bad. but funny.
10:15 they show a black dude skating so they start playing 80s style Caribbean music lol.
trying to find something racist when its not even there
Nah, that wasn't intencional, that's Aaron Murray skating

What? Hand plants are amazing
Especially Mike Vallely’s
street plants are cool, there are not inverts but still cool i think.
It wasn't a "wooden board mounted with roller skates " That wouldn't work. It was a wooden board mounted with roller skate wheels. , Big difference.
