  • This is not some gimmick you see or hear about but the most effective way to actually get rid of ground moles. I go over the setup and detailed steps I use to quickly and easily catch and eliminate ground moles permanently. I've used this same technique for years and it's the only one I've found to consistently work. I've removed dozens of ground moles this way. Juicy fruit, soap, sound, exhaust, chemicals, water hose, poisons are luck at best if not dangerous, damaging and far more time consuming.

This is the BEST and most informative video on this topic. I’ve watched so many, and it bugs me that others waste my time when they obviously don’t have any experience with moles. You, sir, are the real deal, and I wish I had seen yours before all the ridiculous bad information on other videos.
For anyone with a problem, this guy has the only good info to actually solve it. And I love how respectful you are regarding those who don’t like killing them. You seem like a very decent person. I did cringe hen you stuck your bare fingers under that trap, but I’ll get over it. Glad you didn’t get speared.

These longer style harpoon traps with double-twisted frames as shown in the video have not been manufactured by Victor in many years. There is no closely similar model to that long style available on the market today from any supplier that I’m aware of. The newer style Victor or Sweeney harpoon trap is shorter in overall length, has shorter harpoon spikes, and less spring tension. In the newer single-twist style, one of the two anchor stakes is parallel and closely adjacent to the mole run and therefore doesn’t anchor well on one side while straddling the mole run, limiting its effectiveness. Even with its limitations the newer style harpoon trap is one of the few traps that can be used up close against a hard surface, like a mole run directly next to a sidewalk. I’ve used both the long and short style harpoon designs for many years in past with some success, but the number of missed hits can be high, even with years of skill. The issue is getting the trigger set ‘perfectly’ for different soil types and conditions, run depth, etc., as noted in the video. The trigger can be overly sensitive and since the soil can move ahead of the mole like a wave in water as he bulldozes through, it trips just in front of him, that’s why a gap is needed between the soil and the trigger to compensate for the trigger sensitivity. Make the gap just a little too big and it doesn’t trip at all.
My preferred trap in recent years is a cinch trap design that looks somewhat like a double pair of scissors. Models from Around The Home (Easy Mole Trap) and Wire Tek (EasySet Mole Eliminator Trap) are preferred. Both are available at Amazon, Rural King, and other stores. Note that there are many very similar looking and cheaper designs that use thinner steel and have other subtle design issues that can make the pinching levers bend or break when up against roots or rocks. I’ve tried many other trap styles or designs over the years and prefer this ‘scissor like’ design for its simple ease of use, safety, and high effectiveness. I suggest anyone buying traps for the first time to buy 2 to 4 traps. I’ve been trapping moles since 1987 and In the period of Jan. 1, 2018 until Aug. 23, 2018 I’ve trapped 117 moles with this ‘scissor like’ cinch design, so I have some experience in trapping. The one key piece of advice I would give is to check your yard often, and the moment you find a new mole run do something, because every day that goes by your chance at success drops dramatically.

Yeah I've tried all those methods got all the traps if you really want to get rid of the moles it's very simple just go to your farm and garden store and get grub control that you spread on your lawn two to three times a year that's what the moles are looking for if you do that you won't need the traps I have tried traps for years they never worked but with this method we haven't had any moles and a big lawn

Worked pretty well but one day I came and found crows eating my bait. Grrrrrrrr. From now on I will totally bury the bait and just mark it with something white stuck into the ground where the bait was W will see. It's a never ending battle

I do have a reason why I can’t use traps......I live in a manufactured home park. It’s summer, the little ankle-biters are running around. Of course they are going to see something sticking out of the ground and want to see what it is. Nothing like a kid getting a foot caught in one of those babies and off to the hospital. Never under-estimate a kid’s ability to mess themselves up. Then you have a lawsuit because you know Jethro and Elly-May are going to blame you for the injury instead of teaching the kid not to touch stuff that does not belong to them.

But more often than not I don’t catch anything and drives me nuts! Think I have the same trap you do too? Whether it’s the longer trap or not I’m not sure? Best traps I’ve used are those old fashioned style spring clamps that close like 2 pair of scissors that squishes anything that triggers it. My best luck been digging a small hole big enough for the trap to sit in the tunnel then pour sand over the trap up to the top of the tunnel and put a bucket over it

i remember a few years ago reading somewhere that hard rock music played in their tunnels would run them off. it also said do not play country music or they will listen to it and chill out. they said it needs to be some heavy rock and to just open a recent tunnel and place a speaker over the hole and blast away. i have never tried it but if anyone wants to try that maybe they can post how effective it was.
i am going to get some nematodes to put out in my garden because if i run the moles off the grubs will just go to town on my crop roots so i need to get rid of the grubs first. in my yard i will probably just gas them with carbon monoxide from an exhaust.

Actually, if you play country music, they begin to drink, and they end up divorced. After that, you lose half the moles ( the males), but the females stay with the babies.

They were destroying my yard this spring. I sprayed with castor oil and nothing happened, then bought some poison granules and nothing happened, some people recommended fruit gum and nothing happened. I was so frustrated and my lawn was full of tunnels. Finaly I got a box of moth balls and place them in the tunnels, now they are all dead cheap and easy.

The basic principles of this trap can apply to nearly all traps, from trigger clearing to leaving their tunnels open etc. The comments about no shoes are hilarious. First I live way north, we don't have the biting kind of anything. Second what kind of city dweller can't even go in their back yard mid summer without shoes smh lol... Also the blurring was a joke, I saw the feature in the software and rolled with it.

I did not find any thing helpful to get rid of moles, however, after so
many trials with traps, poison without success, I had found a way to
kill moles by using mouse trap (the one with spring, 2x4 inch wood
board, available at Home Depot). All we need is to use a small piece of
earth worm as bait then put the trap in front of the hole, make sure
clearance for the trap mechanism to snap then use a carton box to cover
the trap & the hole. Guarantee you will find a dead mole the next
day. I have been so frustrated with this animal for quite some time and I
can breath a sigh of relief now knowing how to handle this destructing
    animal.

Yes you can kill moles with these. I've had traps out on the past. Thing is I trapped all year. Killed around 8 moles. Bad thing is you have to continue. You always have 3-4 traps in your yard. I have found I better method. My daughter brought home a cat. So we trained it to be more of an outdoor cat. After a summer we had 0 moles hadn't seen a mole tunnel or mound in 3 years. Well last fall her can went missing. This summer moles are back at it again. My wife and daughter will pick up her new cat tomorrow morning.

Briggs n Stratton makes a machine that’ll kill and bury underground living rodents at the same time. It works and is by far safer than spring loaded traps. If you don’t have access to that type of machine, your internal combustion engine daily driver automobile will.

    • @GarmingGFB
      @GarmingGFB  6 лет назад

It really depends on what type of soil you have. Good thick black dirt or clay and it should be fine. The depth of the stake is needed more when it's loose or sandy soil. Maybe head over to a small or big box with tape measure if you want to be sure. Can also test how much force the spring load has by taking a pull on it. If you have a real problem I'd get my hands on a couple before I bought. Using ones too small or weak ends up being a waste of time.

If you search for removing moles you end up with people removing moles from their skin. So ground mole makes it a lot easier when searching.
