During the late 2000s Ryan Howard was the most dominant power hitter in all of baseball. Helping him become the fastest to reach 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 home runs. But after one cold October night his career took a sharp turn and overnight he became one of the worst players in the sport.

I grew up as a huge Red Sox fan. However, Ryan Howard was was of my favorite players growing up because he was a lefty just like me (It's probably obvious my favorite lefty was David Ortiz). Most of this was because I got to see him before the majors at AAA scranton/wilkes-barre red barons almost every game. He and most of the other big Phillies farm system players from that era were absolutely class act. I have countless autographs from Ryan howard, shane victorino, chase utley, Jimmy rollins, etc. Those guys are all great role models. They would stop anything they were doing to say hi to fans and give autographs. Also, shoutout Marlon Bryd who recognized me by name at a totally different spring training game and venue and came over to say hi by calling out my name. These guys were class act and had no ego.
I know this is long, but as a side note, the yankees AAA has taken over here and ever since they do almost nothing for the fans compared to what we experienced with the Phillies organization. I will always root for the Phillies as my NL team and I could never forget how awesome these Phillies guys were. When they won the World series, I was so happy for them. That group of guys weren't just superstar players but also superstar humans. Thank you for this video. Baseball is beautiful

Man, I just remember that last out of the 2011 NLDS so vividly as a cardinal fan. I remember the joy of we were about to win the series, but then you look over and see Ryan Howard on the ground. As a little kid, it was just crazy.

I’d hardly call him the most feared hitter of the late 2000’s.
    From ‘06-‘09
    Pujols OPS was 1.078 vs Howard’s 0.968
    Pujols had 328 XBH to Howard’s 321
    Pujols had an OPS+ of 179 to Howard’s 146
    Pujols had 1,396 TB to Howard’s 1375
Lets not forget Pujols had 226 Ks to Howard’s 765 Ks 😂
    Feared hitter? Yes
    Most feared? No

as a die hard phillies fan and someone who grew up watching the big piece play. im 29 so i remember the early days of CBP and ryans ruse & phillies finally win… all that being said it breaks my heart how dirty hes been done and how forgotten hes become by baseball “fans”. the phills dont break the 30 year drought, sell out CBP every single game for years and see the phillies become relevant again. and the fact that i have to live with knowing he’ll never get in the HOF fcking KILLS ME. he was the most dangerous man on the planet for a good few years and change this city and is responsible for so many phillies fans like myself today. the HOF is a joke and ill never take it seriously after him not getting in.

Real ones know no one is touching bonds. He's the king of hitting and always will be. Might get a pujols or a rod, trout, Cabrera, or judge to have a good start and potential... but no one is ever matching bonds. It's practically impossible to get close let alone match or surpass

Prolly on of the best "Primes" of all-time (2006-2011) where he averaged over these 6 seasons a whopping , 44 HR's & 133 RBI's per year !!! On that magical 2011 season where the Phils won the most wins in team history (102) I just recall NOT wanting to face the red-hot Runnin Red Birds in round 1 because they were so hot entering the playoffs much like how I feared the Rockies in 2007 and we all know how both turned out :-///

With all due respect to Ryan Howard and what he has accomplished in his career,
What he said on the podcast about " the shift" being why he wasn't getting hits and being productive is straightforward bullshit.
Ryan Howard is a POWER hitter i.e. One dimensional i.e. One Trick Pony i.e. all or nothing swing for the fences you get my point.
If you( your team, the opposing team and the fans) KNOW why the shift is being put on you for a high percentage, What do you do?!?!?
Simple.... LEARN the put the ball in play(singles doubles a triple every now and then)
    Also,
LEARN HOW to hit against left handed pitching
That's why you have the off-season spring training and grapefruit league play to practice and put into play what you have been working on.
Which tells me Ryan(like most POWERE hitters) were complacent if not motivated to change their spots/stripes and yet they wonder WHT certain outcomes in the game happened in the game the way it did
