      If it were only the boredom...if the compensation were great, then I could somehow (for a time!) deal with that (till I had enough money to leave)...but frankly: Compensation sucks, too (ok: I am in re-training currently, so yeah I earn less than most other people - still, even if you trippled my earnings (and that's about what normal people working full time make in Germany at entry level), I would still have barely any money left at the end of the month if I had to pay rent...luckily I don't have to ATM!))

    I’ve had a side hustle for years and I recently was so stressed out by management that I bought a bottle of whiskey at lunchtime to cope with it. While drinking it, I realized how f’d up that was and went back to the office, gathered my belongings and walked out. Life is too short to be wasted as an easily replaceable cog in someone else’s money making machine. Having to work 80/hrs a week with no OT pay as a software developer to meet deadlines was stupid when I can easily earn just as much working for myself.

      There is an old saying, "A penny saved is a penny earned". Most people with full time jobs and are still broke is because they live beyond their means. Not everyone can build passive income online or reoccurring revenue streams. But monetizing time can be just as valuable. For example, instead of buying a $800 phone, invest in a mobile programming course. Not everyone is geared for entrepreneurship and the best ones create jobs for thousands and not just themselves. It takes all kinds to make the world go around.

      Gordon Lou bullshit advice you just gave no matter what you do in REAL LIFE no matter what you “BUDGET OR SAVE “ it is a losing game , what you don’t want to do is live within your means on some bullshit budget that does not equate to inflation or deflation or what is happening in real life like when the wheel falls of your car unexpectedly !!! If that’s all University’s are teaching about commerce it’s no wonder this country is run by morons who are university educated , you know what is better advice , take any spare money invest it in to shares or stocks and get returns on your investments via dividends or if that stock increases , look at Apple stocks beginning of this year if you bought those stocks when they crashed say $40,000 worth in three weeks if you sold them they would have increased to $13,000 making 13 grand in three weeks on top of your $40 grand that means you had $40 grand and you would have had $53 grand after 3 weeks . Now get this you idiots buy yourselves college degrees that may not give you a job for around $40,000 grand ??? I mean why fucking bother you are better to just Invest the money in something you actually know you will get returns on , spending money on tuition fees at University’s is the biggest waste of money on this planet , budgeting and saving money is for idiots , you need to think bigger than that , borrow money , invest money etc live beyond your means !!! Fuck your education system is garbage !!

    I couldn't have said it any better myself. I hated every moment of the 9-5 life. I work for myself now. I was working at a prison. That job was hell on earth. I took the job at 23. Always wanted to work in law enforcement, but I quickly realize it wasn't what i thought it would be. No unity, backstabbing, constantly needing to prove yourself to every other officer that walks in. Worked there for 2 years, until I got fired a year ago. Bunch of corrupted bitter jerks decided to gang up on me just because i wasn't in their clique lol.
    I didn't even bother fighting for my job. Heck. I could have won my job back... But I didn't care. My whole mindset was like this "oh god please just hurry up and fire me so i can collect unemployment". After I got canned, I spent a month in Shenzhen, China. And then i started a business 4 months after I got back to the U.S. money is better, I have a piece of mind, I have some actual freedom. I have i own a semi truck and i hual things as a contractor. When i work... I'm busy for a month straight...but I take 2-4 weeks off at a time when I'm ready to hang up the keys. I can treat every day as if it's a friday. Life is sweet right now

    Jordan, I know this feeling VERY VERY well. I felt it TODAY. once you discover entrepreneurship and the possibility of making money in other ways, you almost cant even tolerate a normal job anymore. I still have a job because my product hasn't started selling yet. But once I make 4 to 6k a month profit. I am quitting ASAP.
    Secondly. having a 9 to 5 job and saving money is almost impossible for most people. most people adapt their lifestyle to their paycheck, and they end up spending their entire salary on things they think their salary affords them. People are not usually taught to save money. I definitely wasn't. Hence most people are slaves to their jobs.

    • @bloodluster7086
      @bloodluster7086 7 лет назад +8

      The system is designed to make you spend as much as possible as with marketing campaigns and peer pressure constantly bombarding you to buy certain products to live a certain lifestyle so you can be "fullfilled". Along with 6-7% inflation a year with pretty much no interest for keeping your money in the bank, you're forced to spend or invest your money, which can be risky as if your investment crashes you can lose all your savings but if you keep it in the bank your money will have 1/3 of the buying power in 20 years.
      So the safest way to accumulate wealth would be to sign a mortgage or a 'death contract" where you will have to work 20-40 years to pay off a house that you don't really own anyways. And even that is getting increasingly harder to do as a millennial with the skyrocketing housing prices.

    I used to have a job in the military-industrial complex that I was laid off from, with a boss named Les Boring. LOL, not kidding. My wife and I were artists and she said, why don't you get pen and ink commissions by going door to door? With the prospect of "not boring" before me I began knocking on doors in wealthy neighborhoods of Baltimore & vicinity with my portfolio in hand. I'd look at the type of curtains they had in the windows. My first commission was for $350. and after 10 or so years of freedom roaming the countryside, I ended up getting $2500 per commission, still just the avg price of an architect's rendering but not bad. I developed my own sales system. Doing the art in my basement studio and being out of doors was what I loved, while I dreaded the sales until I got warmed up, then it was fun. I found a niche and worked it.

    I 100% agree! the reason why I don't want to have a regular 9 to5 is simply because I hate working for other people I would love to have the freedom to do what I please when I want to and enjoy my family more. I'm not a person who loves money however I recognize money as a tool that we need to live the life that we desire. What I do love is my freedom........and it truly is priceless

    All these videos about the sky is falling, but none that actually says how to weather the storm. "Find multiple streams of income". No kidding genius. I could think of a few, like buying a bubblegum machine or starting a b2b franchise. Now, Since you're the million dollar guy, any ideas?
    Now, before someone comes on here and insult me for depending on the OP to give me an idea, I don't actually expect him to tell me exactly what to do. It's just that, they all say the same thing. "Uhh... I quit my job and started a business. You should too. This is why. The end".
    Out of all of these, 'your job is slavery' videos, only one ever mentioned just how they got started. I don't need it for myself, as I already have a plan. I almost can't blame the OP. When my plan works, I probably would be reluctant on just giving it out myself.
    However, you won't find me on here saying the obvious, unless I at least have a list of solutions on where to get started.

      Lincoln Heights Exactly all the “quit the 9-5” videos are vague with no specific advice.Dont people realize if you run a business it takes a lot of time and a lot of work.They will be working a lot more and it’s more stress than a 9-5.
      They won’t be able to “work when I feel like it” they’ll become slaves to there own business.
      Also it will become monotonous after a while,I mean say a painter or plumber,every day they paint and plumb that’s it.
      Not as easy as people think

      Lincoln Heights the first step is to understand the problem. Second step is to get really really mad. Third is to seek the knowledge-don't expect it to fall on your lap. Put in effort to find the solution.

      Clearly he makes his money by selling shit on amazon, and making youtube videos that are pretty much advertisements to buy his product (the course he links in the description). Personally I make my money by selling stuff (cough cough), selling things on Ebay, and doing odd jobs. Other than that, just spending my money responsibly so I can reinvest it in products to sell.

I have no debt and waaaaay more than $1k in my bank. I could not work for 1-2 years and be fine. However with that being said. Nice video, it's good you can find something that makes you happy.
    ***WARNING: MY OPINION BELOW***
    I'm someone who is working a job that doesn't have consistent hours or any benefits, so this is just my perspective.
    I would LOVE to have a 9-5 job.
    1. Getting laid off is something that can happen anywhere, to anyone, even someone working in fast food.
    2. Not having any savings isn't related to having a 9-5 job, it's a personal issue. Even someone working in fast food can save money, get a roommate or two, downgrade your phone plan, cut cable, cut internet (use libraries, free internet in restaurants, even some city parks), turn off lights, don't run the heat/air over/under a certain temperature, cook in big batches, don't eat out, don't make car payments, work 2 or 3 jobs, etc.
    3. Not being in a position to try anything new is also a personal issue. Who says you have to try something new at work? Do what you want when you're at home. If you have a year's worth of expenses saved up and you want to quit your job and start a business, there is no one stopping you but you.
    4. I don't really get this point, if you have a 9-5 job you can easily get 1 or 2 more income streams in your free time. Again you are just setting arbitrary limits on yourself.
    5. Your last point makes me laugh a bit. Personally, going to work everyday at the same time for 30+ years sounds wonderful to me. Different strokes for different folks I guess, personally I can't get anything done if I don't have structure in my life, which is why I'm struggling so much now. I'm at a job where the hours vary daily so I never know when I will have a day off to run errands or relax.
    I think it's not the job's problem if people live for the weekend, it's the person's attitude. Currently my job is very mundane, however I always come to work with a smile and am grateful for a paycheck so I'm not starving on the streets. A lot of people at my job complain all day, and they are happy for their weekend and grumpy when they come back. To me, this just makes the job worse for everybody because they are making it a negative atmosphere and bringing everyone down. That's why I always have a smile and never complain at work, or even at home very much for that matter.
    I have 4 rules I live by:
    1. Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
    2. Don't complain unless you have a solution.
    3. Be grateful for what you have.
    4. See the positive in every situation.

    I wish more people would understand these reasons, especially that last one, because that to me is also the main reason why I hate regular day jobs. When you realise that the monotony of everyday life leaves you with virtually no future and you become stuck in an endless cycle of just earning enough to survive just so that you can continue going to work to earn just enough to survive. I get a sense that most people who work day jobs don't even get a chance to be themselves for most of their lives. They only get a chance to finally be themselves for a tiny 3 weeks in a year when they get their paid holiday leave. That to me is really depressing. I don't want to look back on my life in my 50s-60s and to realise that I wasted it all on being a cog in a machine rather than doing things I could find to be fulfilling. (The only exception is if the day job you go to is something you feel passionate about, but let's face it, that is not the case for at least 90% of people out there).
    And if you're a creative person or generally high on the Openness to Experience trait (from Big 5 theory), then day jobs would affect your mental health negatively even more so than they would for other people.

      Your comment is really well written. Thank you I enjoyed reading it. I agree 100% with you. This is why I am thinking of becoming a teacher, in my country the salary is good and you get a lot of vacation (probably around 15 weeks per year). I graduated from university with a master's but as soon as I started working I realized something was very wrong with doing that for 40 years.
      I would consider myself a creative person and very open to experience as you described. So far however, I haven't found any other alternative to make money that I would enjoy. I thought about the entrepreneur way for a while and almost started it but I gave up when I realized it would be even more work and not necessarily nicer than being an employee.
      Most people around me seem to be perfectly fine with the 8-5 lifestyle. I have been feeling very lonely ever since I started working even though I have friends and families. It seems no one really mind that shitty life.
      If you read this comment don't hesitate to reply (OP or anyone else)

    • @MatthewAshworth
      @MatthewAshworth 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply, Jack T, and I agree with everything you're saying. I get a sense that most of us while young get mislead a lot - get a degree, then get a 9-5 job, then start a family, do this till you retire. First of all, the degree no longer holds as much weight as it used to. It doesn't open doors for us anymore as we're being told. So we go to university for about 4 years, come out with a meaningless piece of paper and no work experience (and a hefty student loan!), so then in our early 20s, we're actually less useful to the workforce than someone who went to work right away after school, because they have work experience (which is what 99% of employers ask for). Degree is only good once you've climbed up the ladder. So our system has it all backwards.
      I think teaching is a good idea if you do not mind having to stand up in front of a class to teach. We're always in need of teachers, and as you said, the holidays are a lot longer than for most jobs. And you know, with a teaching qualification/experience, you could also be a private tutor in your spare time (or whenever you want, like maybe after a few years of teaching in school), and being a private tutor is in my opinion a lot better, because then you get to be in charge of your own schedule. And thanks to the internet now, private tuition can be done online through Skype too, not only in person. So that can save you on travel costs. :)
      The entrepreneur/freelance path indeed has its problems. It gives a lot more freedom, but it can be very unstable in terms of income and unpredictable times will often occur, so you kind of have to have backup plans. And it's also something that can take a while before it starts to bring in the profits, because in the early stages of most businesses, there are a lot more expenses than income.

    • @jackt7331
      @jackt7331 6 лет назад +1

      Thank you, I didn't think about the private tutor path.
      It seems like you are from the usa, where indeed many people start off their career in debt. Insane how much in entraps you. Plus the fact that many Americans live off their credit card. I know this because I studied there for a few years and was impressed by how much confidence in the future some young people with 100k $ debt had.
      What path have you chosen ?

    • @MatthewAshworth
      @MatthewAshworth 6 лет назад

      Thanks. Not quite USA, but close. I live in UK. It's somewhat similar here with the student debt. I personally have studied for biochemistry and genetics and did a Master's degree in cancer afterwards, but when it came to going into the workforce, it was tough. Science jobs aren't big in number here compared to some other industries, and most of them are pretty much start from the bottom doing menial tasks in a lab, even if you have a degree. So a couple or so years later of being unable to find a job in science, I re-qualified for AAT (accountancy courses). But when I did some jobs in this sphere, I found them extremely tedious. Back then I had a hobby of making games, so I decided to try going commercial route with that, and it kind of worked. I've been self-employed, making indie games for PC for the past 4 years. But things change of course, and Steam isn't quite the haven for indie devs it once was, so the income from games isn't enough anymore, so I'm now trying to find ways of making additional income either from a job or from doing freelance things such as digital art which I've been doing on and off over the years anyway. :)
      So which country do you live in then? Tutor path is definitely worth looking into. If you have a teaching qualification, you have good chances there. And it has a very good pay rate per hour (at least here in UK anyway).

    • @jackt7331
      @jackt7331 6 лет назад +1

      Congrats on making your own money through video games. How can I find your games on steam? I can support you a little maybe
      I kinda followed the same path than you, at least in the beginning. I have a master in urban planning. After I graduated with good grades and honors I expected my career to take off, but it turned out completely different. For four years the only jobs I was able to land are internships and short term contracts. Even though I always worked correctly I'll admit that I haven't been very enthusiastic for a while about pursuing a career in the domain and maybe my old bosses felt it. Or maybe they didn't give a fuck because there is plenty of other candidates. Im from switzerland
      By the way. my sister also studied biochemistry and started as a lab technician (overqualified) but somehow managed to climb the ladder now. But she still is stuck deep in the rat race and the 1 hour commute. She doens't seem to mind at all lol...

    the most terrifying part for me is {this happen to my mom and millions of other people that work at big companys} She put in 30 years at pnc bank and coulda have retired in 5 years and they eliminated her position she lost per pention and they didn't hold up too there part of the retirement so she only had what she had paid into retirement and now she was 55 years old no collage and no experience in anything else now she works in a clothing store making 1/4 what she made then and will have to work till she dies and that my friend is terrifying! Love the videos man keep up the good work!

    I worked in a restauran in the Philippines and we stay a total of 9 hours (some times more) at the resturant because break time is not counted... the restaurant opens at 8 a.m. and if you're in the opening shift we first got 1 hour breaks but then they changed it to 2 hours breaks so you'le go home at about 7 p.m. (making your time a total of 10 hours and 2 hours of that isn't paid)... If you are mid-shift you go to work at 12 p.m. and leave at 9 p.m. (at least that's the idea) they changed it again, if you are mid-shift (they make your break time even longer) 3 hours break which means I'll spend a total of 11 hours at work and 3 hours of that isn't going to be payed... The last shift is the closing-shift and it starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 3 a.m. (this was the worst work schedule ever) add to that the fact that some of my co-workers are the most annoying assholes ever... This schedules makes me feel like a robot or a machine and I was spending less time with my family... I would go to work, go home, eat, sleep then I wake up and it's time to go to *work/hell* again... Thank you *Millionaire Milennial* for giving me some ideas on how to earn money online, I haven't started yet but I'm really exited to try.
    Edit: I forgot to mention the horrific traffic here in Metro Manila that adds to the stress, if traffic is really bad you could have a 3 hour travel time for what should have been just a 30 minute travel time (3 hour travel to work + 3 hour travel home = 6 hours travel time) 6 hour total travel time plus my shitty work schedule = *brain damage.* My 1 day rest day is like an oasis in the middle of a never ending desert.

      @iamnoone348 7 лет назад +2

      #jyseninthecloud - Sorry I don't want to namedrop for the purpose of confidentiality, but it's pretty common for restaurants here in the Philippines to overwork their employees... One of my friends also worked in another restaurant and he was doing 3 to 4 hours non paid overtime so he left... At least in my case the company was paying my overtime... minimum wage here is lower than 300$ a month *(totally not worth it)* considering that they only accept college graduates... that's why I'm looking for alternative ways for income. By the way are you Filipino?

      Overwork, scams, employment without a contract or false contract/registering the employee to minimal wage and pay some more into the pocket/ is quite common in the catering sector almost everywhere, i have expierience from Europe.

    You didnt say HOW YOU got where you are.
    Quitting wont make you a millionaire.
    Neither will working for another.
    Nor working at 'goals' or being shamelessly materialistic.
    You either get the opportunity to take what is yours or not.
    Not everyone gets that.

    Very true after working full time for just over a year (which I was forced into by my family and job centre) and trying to turn my passion for voice acting into my dream career. I couldn't handle all the work while taking classes for va, working full time and having multiple chronic illnesses which cause me to feel very fatigued every morning and exhausted by the end of a working day. I've put so hard work and money into my passion, I have another 4 months of classes and i'm finished, to then finally start going for paid work and get out into the competitive world. Anyway before I continue rambling, I completely get what you mean. I just come off the phone with a work coach I have been recommended by unemployment support (only left my job 3 weeks ago) and already being bombarded by the amount of shit you have to sign up for to go back into a crappy job! Why should I be seen as lazy or shameful if I want to work part time and spend the rest of my time working on crafting my passion into a career. Most of my family, friends, and work support coaches don't give a flying fuck. The lady on the phone nearly brought me to tears, she must've thought she muted herself but she asked about my hobbies and potential future career paths, I told her about voice acting and she said, you'll never have your dream job you stupid idiot you need to be realistic, awww so sad she thinks she can get a job in stuff like that and just started laughing. After that she just switched back to her normal conversation. Why even my family can't support how much I want to do the things I love for a living and help them finally have the money they've been needing their whole lives after living a capitalistic life of just working to die.

Now that seems like a lot at first but its really not enough. Id still have to live pay check to pay check. Finally heard about pressure washing and its a literal gold mine. I'm doing a lot of research and will start soon.

    I truly agree with that last reason. I've been feeling that way at every single job I've had since 16 (usually after 3 months of working there) thinking that my new better paying job would be more fulfilling. Yeahh right. It's the exact same. I'm really trying to push myself to get out of the rat race and start living instead of just surviving. Just found your vids and I gotta say it's putting a lot of thoughts in my head and I'm ready for action. When I first heard the statistic about Americans not having enough in their savings, it surprised me too. I do things a little risky where I do have over 25k saved... but not in completely liquid assets. I have them all in stocks which I know you are not supposed to do but I do not want my money sitting in a savings account losing value because the interest rate cannot keep up with inflation. I dapple in independent contracting where I get paid from another company in addition to my 9-5 job so I guess it is not too extremely risky.

    • @millionaire-millennial

      You should look into high interest savings accounts! Some over 2% and it mostly offsets inflation.

    When it's ok to have a 9-5 job i.e. just one income stream - financial perspective:
    1. You still live with your parents, they will financially support you should you lose your one job
    2. You have at least one year of expenses saved, of which 6 months is liquid
    3. You are financially independent, i.e. you actually don't need that job to financially support yourself and your family
    #2 will give you sufficient time to find a new job without the time pressure to take the first offer (incl. some buffer to keep peace of mind) OR to start your own business

    I used to do nothing but side hustles. I busked, did photography, freelance writing and taught music. I was always depressed and scrounging for money. I took a 9-5 job writing. It gave me structure and a good income. When I was bored they switched me to recruiting. That gave me WAY more money. Got bored of that to though so I was going to quit but when I told them they offered me a promotion to account executive and they make 100k+ so I really can't complain. The old 9-5 has been good to me. I still live in a small bachelor so am pretty cheap so I'm saving a ton. Going to buy properties and rent them and when I get enough retire in my 30's.

    I'd rather do 9-5 I got the degree, got the job with a world leading multinational in the subject I studied. The works fine easy in fact. I have issues with the people more than anything and the general culture. If I got a remote gig working from home as I work databases that would be best. BUT I don't/cant hussle I cant stand sales people or pushy pricks. Plus if I'm doing 9-5 as it is last thing I wanna do is work more, I like a work/life balance. Cool video man. Lots of people seem like they wanna go it on their own. The thing I notice with that is. Say people working online most people are e begging, watch my videos but dont forget to support me on patreon etc. Huge influx of personal trainers, crypto currency and all that crap where a small % will actually benefit. The rest are jumping on a band wagon and getting ripped off.

    If you have a good work ethic and are not scared of actually working then you will never be out of a job. You don't need a new cell phone every couple months, you don't need kids, a shitty car and an expensive car are the same, they get you from point a to point b at the end of the day, any job can cover food, clothes, shelter, the basics. Survival has nothing to do with luxury. You can get tons of food for 100 bucks a month, many of us do it. You are not entitled to shit, make what you make and enjoy it. If where you live is too expensive well you probably have legs so go somewhere else. Work nights, avoid the traffic, sleep all day, that's the way to go.

    At this point i don’t even mind working a 9-5 job, since i’ll probably not be getting money any other way. Can’t seem to find any legitimate 100% proven to work tutorials/ways to earn money, and even if i do find one, it’s either unclear or requires like 26 steps, which i don’t feel like doing all for something that has a 80% chance of not working. And a 9-5 is immensely easier, despite sapping people of their will to live, motivation, etc.
