    This is why I caved in with China phones like Vivo and Oppo (but not Huawei for the same marketing reasons) thanks to their price to performance ratio. In my broke country Philippines, An S24 Ultra would cost me 5 months' worth of average paycheck as an Accountant while giving me the same features from the S23U with a new processor and AI gimmicks, While Vivo's X100s would only cost me 1 month paycheck while giving me like better features than the S24U with a lesser cost. Yeah, I would get a China ROM over the Global, but the China ROM made google optional rather than mandatory, hence giving me more freedom.
    The China spyware barely concern me than the NTC sending me spam messages with useless facts.

    Phones using the same crappy sensor and artificially increasing the size of a photo from 2 MPX to 200 MPX is serving the purpose of killing two birds with 1 stone:
    1.- They make average consumers who know nothing about photography think that the only thing they should care is the size of the image and not the quality and size of the sensor which is the only thing that matters.
    2.- By making that crappy 2 MPX sensor artificially resize every photo into 12 MPX, 50MPX, 100MPX or even 200 MPX, they make sure that your storage runs out immediately after taking a couple of pictures. And now that they've taken away the external micro SD storage, they force you to either buy the most expensive model with the most storage or buy their cloud service for you to store those crappy absurdly heavy images.
    They're making us run out of storage by artificially resizing all photos to unnecessarily big sizes because they've successfully fooled the average consumer into thinking that the most Megapixels, the best a photo will look. That way they save money without needing to increase the size of sensors, keep reusing old sensors, blame bad quality on "cheaper models" by keeping the editing software for the most expensive ones, force you to buy the most expensive phones with the most storage, force you to buy theyr cloud service and also they've been forcing us to use their expensive Bluetooth headphones by removing the headphone jack.
    We already got the best phones some years ago. Now we're gonna start getting crappy phones behind constant pay wall to unlock anything

      they are not using the same crappy sensor, thats just straight up wrong. they are adding more megapixels to new sensors, but it doesnt make a difference because of rapidly diminishing returns and laws of physics. there isnt enough light to go into the sensor to make anything sharp, thats diffraction at play (and thats why many aps-c lenses don't let you turn the aperture lower than f/16). the only phones that upscale low resolution images into absurd sizes are fake chinese ewaste phones that pretend to be flagships from known brands, said flagships do the opposite: they combine adjacent pixels to make 12-24mp images. imo the pixel binning is dubious and the best thing they can do is use the junk (noisy and blurry) data to feed the image processing algorithm (also its a cope for not having a separate telephoto lens)

    • @notlahaan
      @notlahaan День назад

      @@corktail7900
      It doesnt make a difference detail wise because spatial multiplexing in multi-bayer CIS imaging + demosaic is dreadful for anything other than HDR. Multi-bayer sensors weren't built for more detail. They're pretty much all 12-12.5MP sensors natively. They can just market it as higher due to "technically" being correct (subpixels).
      If they'd use a standard 24, 41 or whatever the detail gain would be very noticable. (First gen of 108 was a QB, so 27MP, natively, and honestly beats out pretty much everything out there (texture & detail wise) especially in raw.

    • @Joridiy
      @Joridiy День назад

      @@corktail7900 not only the "Chinese ewaste phones" but also phoned that are bought by a huge chunk of the population which can't afford a flagship like the Galaxy A series.
      For example, my previous Galaxy A14 and A15 were announced to take photos in 50 megapixel resolution and all that, yet the sensor has an actual lower resolution and the camera app just artificially increases the size and weight of the file.
      Some phones might have a better sensor or a better post-edit software, but they all are indeed inflating the size of the photos (and taking away native tools to resize photos to save storage) so we buy the bigger models, cloud storage and so on

    My trusty Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is now 7 years old and I STILL have no incentive to switch to any other daily driver. New phones may be faster, but other than that, they may even be worse than my old brick. I have a headphone jack, they don't. I have the fingerprint sensor in an ergonomically optimal spot, many new phones have it in worse places. And once this phone will finally die or become incompatible with crucial things, I might rather try out a small brand with unique phone features.
    I am glad, that as a tech nerd, I don't fall for the ever climbing numbers. To this day I am proclaiming, that 4K screens in smartphones are ridiculous. 1080p is perfectly fine and eats less battery. My Note 8 has quad HD resolution, and for most of it's life, I have set it to 1/4 of that and I keep completely forgetting about it, because it makes almost no visual difference. Insanely high charging speeds make no sense, because you are rarely ever in such an urgent position, that it is viable to severely wear down your battery by charging crazy fast. Huge megapixel numbers make no sense, because which normal user would ever have use for such a crazy resolution, and most of it is interpolated anyway.
    Honestly, I really don't know, what I should aim for, once I can no longer use the Note 8 to full extent. Maybe I'll try out a really crazy phone like the Tank 3. Being an adventurer, it would be really neat to have a battery pack with me all the time and the phone lasting for a week with it. But also, seeing things realistically, it is a lot of weight I always need to carry and which makes the phone not really usable for unusual things, like strapping to the handle bar of the bike for navigation. But I guess, I'll pass this headache on to future-me. Because who knows, how long I can still stick to the Note 8. Maybe it's gonna be good for another 3 years?

    Carriers today offer the retail value of most flagship phones allowing you to upgrade for free or on a massive 800 dollar discount. You should never pay full price for a phone when T-Mobile, Samsung, and Verizon all offer 800 trade ins on phones younger than a Series 10 iirc. If not it might be for the 20s but either way if you paid 800 or more for your phone getting that money back and getting a new one is probably the best deal out there.

    • @Techsnowball
      @Techsnowball  2 дня назад

      That's definitely a good deal to trade it in, but for one, the new phone e.g pixel 9 should not cost that much in the first place, it you wait like 4-5 months in drops alot in price, and then if I buy it used it's even cheaper, so if u keep buying ultra phones at half the price and then reselling them every year that's even cheaper l, but I guess more work

    3:58 Sony did the same thing until a few years ago, they intentionally disabled the RAW option on their phones, even on the most expensive flagship phones, because they thought that if you can't shoot RAW with their phones, then you probably gonna buy a Sony camera too, the most ridiculous thing about this is that they actually forgot to disable the RAW shooting on one of their low-midrange phones and because of this you couldn't shoot RAW with the most expensive Sony phone, but you could shoot RAW with that cheap crap.
    4:21 Those phones are actually shooting 12 megapixel RAW images, so the 108MP and 200MP is very far from reality. You can divide any image into any amount of pixels, but the image quality won't become better.

    Hear me, samsung s series fan edition is launched at extreme high price because after few months they discount and make it look like 50k INR phone is now 35k INR so go grab your samsunggg, especially in india offline market is highly manipulated with these tactics. Also note that A series a55 was launched at 40k for 12gb ram varient while s23 is selling in flipkart with discounts for 40k INR.

    • @Techsnowball
      @Techsnowball  2 дня назад

      i do know that the FE models drop in price alot, but they are released half way through the S series lineup, so those thones are also heavily discounted, and by then they also become very cheap when buying used. Also, a year or two down the line, it still doesn't make sense to buy FE when the S model is probably like 40k

    • @-_krish_-
      @-_krish_- 2 дня назад

      @Techsnowball yeah, In India only the s20 fe was considerable, and then on I think they just make something with fe name so that they could cover that market where people still believe fe is a vfm premium device. Samsung has become a clown company, their buds 2 pro used to look different and was priced good but then with buds 3 pro the design looks more like airpods pro and also price increased too much in india where OnePlus and other Chinese have good tws at cheaper prices.

    They all make great "mid-range" phones that are better than anyone needs. But they're smart and they know if they put out "flagship" models for the price of small used cars (it's just a PHONE remember), they can make lots of money from fools who'll pay them. So much BS and phone snobbery. Like you can tell the difference between chips and everyone's doing hardcore gaming 12 hours a day on their phone or something. Get a Galaxy A55. Best phone I've ever owned. Go out in the sunshine. Get a dog.

    4:42 I have done the calculations, and the sensor size between the S22 Ultra and S24 Ultra's main cameras are negligible, leading to (shocker) noticably smaller pixels on the 200MP sensor!

    • @Techsnowball
