    Moonlight really takes a LOT of influence from Kar-Wai, but I can't really be mad about it when the outcome is so great and beautiful on it's own. If anything, I hope that more people get inspired by WKW, there's so many lessons to be learned from his films

      "Moonlight really takes a LOT of influence from Kar-Wai"
      it does? I haven't seen it yet, but kar-wai is actually my favorite director. so that definitely makes me want to see "moonlight" a lot more than I already did.

    • @octopu5ie
      @octopu5ie 7 лет назад +9

      beflygelt how could someone be mad to begin with? What reason is there, wong kar wai is a master...I am okay with the idea of works being connected, with the best work still manifesting some kind of originality.

      The gentleman narrating is brilliant and is a astute observationist. His description pays a huge homage to this director. He knows precisely what he's talking about which is such an absolute privilege and pleasure for all of us who are listening. WOW! What a perspective and intuitive insight into the Consciousness of The Artist. Thank you.

    "I'm watching this film and I'm feeling all these things" THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT WKW DOES TO YOU. He can take the simplest of subject matter and turn it into something that affects you the rest of your life. I considered myself a film junkie and have seen sooooo many movies but it wasn't until I was 23 and saw In the Mood for Love that I actually "felt" something from film for the first time in my life. I love Barry's explanation of WKW films. Perfect.

      I feel this so hard. I watched it for the first time last night, and it felt like a transcendent experience. I compulsively fiddle and move around in my seat- even during the best films I’m subtly moving, but for the first time ever, I was a goddamn statue, completely transported into this masterpiece.

    As an architect, I draw so much inspiration out of these movies, how people interact within specific spaces and how only a bunch of frames can depict a whole atmosphere of a building.
    When I design I often think as an scriptwriter to imagine stories that could happen in the buildings I design...

      - Fallen Angels
      - Happy Together
      - Ashes of Time Redux
      Wich is available both in bluray and DVD :)

      terraMosh I've watched all of it. Gotta say, Chungking Express is my favourite. Love the idea of key characters and plots intersecting at the same locations in the city, but some never destined to be more than strangers, some destined to fall in love. They don't make films like these anymore.

    • @beflygelt
      @beflygelt 7 лет назад +2

      you definitely should! His 90s run of films is simply incredible. In The Mood For Love is in a way the black sheep in his filmography.. I'd argue that what came before is even more unique than his late masterpiece though. I recommend to start with Chungking Express and go -> Fallen Angels (a "sequel" to Chungking) -> Happy Together (my personal favorite) -> Days of Being Wild (just as great as the others, not to be forgotten!). I can't yet recommend As Tears Go By as I have yet to see it, but it seems to be an early example of that very unique style which makes all the above named films so outstanding and beautiful

    I was watching Happy Together and, aside from it being about a couple gay gentlemen, the cinematography reminded me of Moonlight so much.
