Totally agree! He's an independent film maker. Even with his Oscar nominations, he's still probably poor as dirt, putting everything he has into his projects. Until he gets a million dollar paycheck, he deserves everything he took. Thanks to Criterion for giving him this wonderful gift.

You should watch Alfonso Cuaron's closet visit. It's just him and Pawel Pawlikowski not addressing the camera as they stock up and talk to each other. It's very funny.

You know what they say: when in doubt, go for the box sets! No picky eating, leave-food-on-your-plate bullshit for Mrs Manners, have fun with it!
The Apu Trilogy. I love those films so much. Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Apur Sansar. Intimate yet epic at the same time, first of its' kind. Then the black & white, the language and Ravi Shankar sitar score just bring it all home as a ridiculously powerful yet tender glimpse into a world so far from my own, literally on the opposite side of Earth from where I've always been.
When Jenkins said "Weekend", I thought he meant the Godard one. Which I didn't like. Angry films I can handle, but angry AND preachy... forget it. And then a pig is brutally slaughtered on camera.
"Shadows" being the lone exception, I have yet to see the films of John Cassavetes. That's a big mistake, I know.
