I didn't know Barry Jenkins was so good looking and charming. The kind of guy you absolutely want to go home with if you have the chance to meet him at a party .. or some where.
Barry Jenkins is me every time there's a Criterion sale. I'm about to leave the store then I see something else I need. I'm so glad he had a chance to grab some stuff from the Criterion Closet. I hope both him and Moonlight raid the Oscars like he raided the closet.
Please, please, please make more of these!! Your closet picks videos are one of my favourite things ever, I watch them over and over again! So fascinating
Love Jenkins! Every now and then I'll come back and rewatch this vid just to vibe off the mutual love of cinema. Ditto with many of the great comments in the comments section. Film lovers unite! And If Beale Street Could Talk is another Jenkins masterpiece!
Barry's reaction of being able to pick out those films (great picks btw!) is great, it's so awesome just seeing another person's enthusiasm for the films he's picking out. I can't help but think I'd be similar in picking out almost everything there!
0:03 Okay, if I ever go in that closet, I'm taking one of each! (Except for Hoop Dreams, Shoah, Salo, and The Age Of Innocence because I already have those.) I also have Non-Criterion copies of movies in the collection(Like The Last Temptation of Christ), so I would debate on taking those as well.
I would have just asked for them to send me one copy of everything on blu-ray at this point. Far too much good cinema! Barry, you did what we are all thinking when watching the closet picks. Hats off to you and congratulations on Moonlight's Oscar nominations.
This video may be my turning point - I'm gonna start to strive to make good stories on film in the hopes that one day, I will be seen as worthy enough to raid the Criterion closet.
I got that same Rashomon, but I also got it because of Kent Williams cover. I saw a poster size version of it once, but that wasn't for sale. Williams studies on Rashomon are amazing.
You know what they say: when in doubt, go for the box sets! No picky eating, leave-food-on-your-plate bullshit for Mrs Manners, have fun with it! The Apu Trilogy. I love those films so much. Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Apur Sansar. Intimate yet epic at the same time, first of its' kind. Then the black & white, the language and Ravi Shankar sitar score just bring it all home as a ridiculously powerful yet tender glimpse into a world so far from my own, literally on the opposite side of Earth from where I've always been. When Jenkins said "Weekend", I thought he meant the Godard one. Which I didn't like. Angry films I can handle, but angry AND preachy... forget it. And then a pig is brutally slaughtered on camera. "Shadows" being the lone exception, I have yet to see the films of John Cassavetes. That's a big mistake, I know.
This is exactly how I would act if I were in the closet. I'd jack half the movies they have, because like Mr. Jenkins said, there's too much good shit.
Finally someone did what every fan would've done. Just take EVERYTHING!
In the Mood for Movies it was very cathartic to see
Yup. Fuck it, bring a trolley with you.

lmaoooo I'm thinking of how much the safie brothers took XD
I can completely relate. There'd be nothing left if I was allowed in the closet.
I wanna get Scorsese in here so we can get a 14 hour video of him going through every film in the closet.
Only 14 hours? He'd make his next movie in there.

Lav Diaz: Yeah, sure.
He literally just took every Criterion box set that I own. My God I'd love to have a drink with this guy.
Please, please, please make more of these!! Your closet picks videos are one of my favourite things ever, I watch them over and over again! So fascinating
If Moonlight doesn't win best picture I will go insane.
Get ready to go insane, there is a 95% chance of La La Land winning
I would be content with either of them winning
I should win, but it most likely wont.
la la land is ba ba better
brandon thompson I really didn't think La La Land was very good... why does everyone love it so much? did I miss something?
Congratulations again Barry! Ratcatcher will be released on Blu Ray October 2021.
1:28 “Blu-ray for this one, please.”
Just announced today! Finally happening!
And he's writing the 2nd essay
@@gnalkhere Indeed he is! Only fitting.
Well it took them 4 years, but they’re finally putting Ratcatcher on blu-ray 🥰
0:58 “You can't make something that's 10 hours”
*Makes The Underground Railroad*
Every filmmaker I've seen so far in this series has chosen the Jacques Tati box set. That's some good word-of-mouth advertising there.
I always come back to this video cuz it’s one of the funniest things ever
There's so much joy and respect here. AND he's right. Can we get a RATCATCHER BLURAY?!!
Thank you for listing the titles; couldn't read many of them that Mr. Jenkins held up.
Barry Jenkins is just all of us grabbing everything off the shelf. Except he's one one of this generations best filmmakers
This video made me want to check out John Cassavetes's films and man thank you Barry Jenkins, just saw a woman under the influence and it's incredible
This shows how he loves cinema, he can't get enough of Criterion. Hahaha.
Love Jenkins!
Every now and then I'll come back and rewatch this vid just to vibe off the mutual love of cinema. Ditto with many of the great comments in the comments section. Film lovers unite!
And If Beale Street Could Talk is another Jenkins masterpiece!
I love how almost everyone gets the Jacques Tati box-set!
Tommy Wiseau - GET HIM IN THE CLOSET!
LOL
Probably the best moment, is realising what we would all do. hope he got them all.
Barry's reaction of being able to pick out those films (great picks btw!) is great, it's so awesome just seeing another person's enthusiasm for the films he's picking out. I can't help but think I'd be similar in picking out almost everything there!
I just want to say how amazing 'Moonlight' is. In my opinion the best movie of the last decade. Just incredible
0:03 Okay, if I ever go in that closet, I'm taking one of each! (Except for Hoop Dreams, Shoah, Salo, and The Age Of Innocence because I already have those.)
I also have Non-Criterion copies of movies in the collection(Like The Last Temptation of Christ), so I would debate on taking those as well.
Remember watching La Haine for my French final exam and being blown away
Love when he's on the floor like a kid at Christmas. Oh to be able to do this!! Great choices too
I would have just asked for them to send me one copy of everything on blu-ray at this point.
I just want to be a mildly known filmmaker hoping that , perhaps one day, criterion would invite me into this closet.
The complete Tati set... I literally drooled on the keyboard
I am Glad he Picked The Apu Trilogy and Monsoon Wedding
0:57 and 4 years later he made a story in 10 hours: the underground railroad
I know! 😆 I saw someone else mention that somewhere. 😊
THIS! This is what I wanted other people's closet picks to be like in this wonderful closet full of incredible films! Grab EVERYTHING you like!
Hands down my favorite closet video, he’s so passionate about these movies and has some amazing picks.
This is exactly how I would act if I were in the closet. I'd jack half the movies they have, because like Mr. Jenkins said, there's too much good shit.
He has some great taste in films 👍
Moonlight was already on my list of movies to watch this year but now i making it my #1 above all.
Moonlight was amazing and reilly stayed with me long after the credits rolled , That last seen kinda broke my heart a bit .
I haven't seen any of Barry Jenkins's films but I have to say I am insanely impressed with his tastes in cinema.
