Great review. I have both types. One thing I really like about the 900/9000 remote is its size which makes it much easier to hold and operate and the Netflix button on the 820 is a real pain and I continually hit in the dark so the 900/9000 is hands down the winner for me.
I don’t mind having a small remote, but the button layout on the UB-9000 remote is better imo. Whereas the UB-820 remote is small and has a bunch of buttons crammed onto it and makes an overwhelming layout, which makes it harder to use due to the buttons being too small, especially without a backlit remote. My question is, why can’t you just buy the official remote from Panasonic? It’s not like it costs a fortune.
I think you can buy it directly from Panasonic according to someone else in the comments, but I think it's at least double the price or maybe a little more. The only real difference is the HDR button, and I'm sure it would have more weight to it because it's OEM.
I honestly haven’t tried. Mine is hooked directly into my to receiver for surround, but I know many player remotes don’t work well with controlling the TV itself.
How do you access the HDR optimizer viewing environment options? The standard, bright environment, natural environment, light environment, settings. Pressing the video setting button bypasses these options and goes straight to HDR optimizer screen. At least for me it does.
Have you tried long pressing the button? I haven’t personally accessed the Optimizer with this remote, and I believe even the OEM remote doesn’t have the HDR setting button
@@b-icemedia The OEM remote does have the HDR setting button, and so does the OEM UB9000 remote. The cheap junk remote also has the correct layout and HDR setting button if you buy the right version.
I found alternative version that actually has HDR button in some local e-shop here in my country and it's for just 14 eur, I hope it will work with my UB820 and if not, I will rip that stupid netflix button off. 😀
That is for the regular Bluray player, not the UHD player. You can get the correct one for the job in both cheap junk and real Panasonic. The real Panasonic remote isn't that much dearer than the cheap junk, but it has a warranty and is better made. If you're spending this money on a UHD player why cheap out on the remote is a little odd to me, but i guess if that is what people want to do... This isn't the correct version though.
It’s the closest I’ve found on Amazon besides buying the OEM UB-9000 remote, so I thought I’d give it a shot, and I’m pleased with it! Only thing it’s missing is the HDR button, but it can still be accessed through the menu, so it’s definitely not a bad deal. OEM is easily the best way to go, but this is still a great option to upgrade the remote and go easy on the wallet. Thanks for the feedback!
@@b-icemedia the correct one is out there, both replica cheap rubbish and genuine OEM. Any Panasonic remote will work really, as long as it is somewhat close in it's intended function. But the same could be said for any old UHD player. If you wanted easy on the wallet, why didn't you just buy a significantly cheaper UHD player!!! Hahaha!!

Thanks for watching! Yes, I definitely agree. I still have my 820 remote, but it just stays in a drawer as a backup, haha.

Thanks for the vid!
Does the oem 9000 remote have buttons that light up?
@@joshuabaggio1982 Thanks for watching! And yes it does.
Great video I'm upgrading!
Thanks for watching and enjoy the upgrade!
Were you able to program this remote to control your TV volume? It hasn't been working for me.

I use the Panasonic blu ray player remote ir6 lights up in dark no dodgy netflix to press !! 🤣👍
I had thought about ordering that same one! lol. I figured I'd save an extra $10 going with the full aftermarket version in the end, though!

Glad you found one on the cheap! It's definitely a nice little upgrade for sure.
I got the new remote, I can't tell you how many time I have hit the Netflix button, very annoying
I'm sure the upgrade is working wonders for you then! Haha.
