    Just ordered the remote on Amazon. I can't think of how many time over the last 5 years of owning the UB-820 that I've hit the Netflix button. I also thought about getting a UB-9000 but couldn't stomach the cost just for the remote. Thank you for this quick review!

    I finally broke down last week and purchased the Panasonic UB 820 along with $200.00 worth of 4K disk’s what a difference I have been streaming Kodi but of corse as you all well know there is nothing like physical media and yes I have been hiting that dam Netflix button on the remote it’s nice to know that there’s an alternative remote that works with the 820 thank you for an informative video👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏

    Era of good remote controls is over, I was shocked when I bought Nokia 8010 streaming box and it has pretty oldschool good quality remote control! That's really rare in these days. I am waiting for my UB820 right now, I hope they really have it on stock, because it's sold out everywhere, but panashop in my country said that they really have it when I asked, but I don't really believe them.

    I have big hands, so the remote is difficult for me also. But I mainly want to figure out how to connect to a network drive. Nobody ever covers that feature in their videos, and the manual is pretty vague too. I can get through all the setup, but it won't connect. All of my other devices work fine. Is there a specific requirement for what type of network drive is needed?

  • @JoshuaPeters3036

    I had the 820 but within the first week didn’t like the glossy cheaper looking plastic, slow ui or the horrible remote. So I sent it back to crutchfield and got the 9000p1k. The ui seems faster, remote is backlit, the audio and video quality is better and the build quality looks so nice with its brushed aluminum faceplate matching all my other gear. I know a lot of 820 owners say the 820’s audio and video quality is just as good for movies but I saw a noticeably obvious improvement in the 9000p1k. I really think even though processing unit is the same they give the twice the price unit a bump in performance.

    • @Tim._..
      @Tim._.. 2 года назад +6

      Seems like choice bias to me, but if you are happy with it then that is all that matters. It is possible if you were using analogue audio out then that might possibly be better if the 9000 has a better DAC or Preamp, but most people are going to want to use digital audio out to their HT receiver that will do the decoding.
      But even if there was a slight difference there is no way you would be able to tell a few days later, you would need to A/B one immediately after the other, unless there was a genuine huge difference, if one was terrible and the other was great (which there isn't or we would all know about it). There is an audiophile channel called Darko and he doesn't even try to compare things unless he can listen at the same time and spend a lot of time with the products, and he is an expert. Otherwise digital audio out and picture should be the same, maybe you had the wrong settings on the 820 or the TV at the time.
      I don't think the 820 looks 'cheap' either, it looks like reasonable quality given the material used and the price point. I don't think I noticed a slow UI either but I don't need to go into it once I have it setup properly.

    • @JoshuaPeters3036
      @JoshuaPeters3036 2 года назад +1

      @@Tim._.. have you heard or seen the 9000? The video and audio quality was apparent without a doubt with the two players I had. For movies I was using the digital input into my processor and then ran the separate video output to the tv like a lot of people suggest. I had them at the same time. I waited to send the 820 back until I had the 9000 in hand.

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone Год назад +1

      @@JoshuaPeters3036 honestly you're trying to justify your purchase at this point. A lot of solid reviewers on YT are saying they're the same. You're basically just paying for the better material and bigger analog DAC.
      If you didn't test these out on the same exact settings with the same exact TVs at the same exact time then your opinion is mute at this point.

    • @JoshuaPeters3036
      @JoshuaPeters3036 Год назад

      @@volcalstone There is no need to justify my purchase. The fact the brushed aluminum faceplate looks so clean with all my other brushed aluminum gear and the better dac was enough for me to upgrade to it. The added audio and video clarity, better quality silent disk drive and back lit remote was just a bonus. I did test them both side by side on LG c1 oleds and my JTR setup. I didn’t send the 820 back until the 9000 came in. Crutchfield will let you do that if you ask so as not to go without a disc player. You can’t believe everything you see on RUclips. Try them both and then come talk to me. Until then enjoy your 820.👍

    This remote should work with Panasonic UB9000, UB900, UB820, UB420, and UB150. It probably even plays on Panasonic’s older 1080p players. I, too, despise the ub820 remote so I bought this exact remote from Amazon. It works perfectly *BUT* the buttons stick terribly. When you push in a button, it must depress too deep and it gets stuck under the top surface. I’m tempted to open it up to see if I can change the placement of the board underneath bc it’s so annoying.

    • @BryanGushen
      @BryanGushen Год назад +2

      This remote is SOOO similar to the Panasonic BDT700, UB900, and UB9000 remotes, I almost think they’re factory rejects bc of the button sticking issue. The only thing these remotes are missing is the Panasonic labeling on the bottom.

      These are all the different Panasonic remote model numbers for this general backlit design. Much better design than the ub820. Google them to see which buttons you prefer. The major difference is the 10 sec rewind, 60 second fast forward, HDR, miracast, closed caption, and DLNA buttons. I personally prefer the 10 sec rewind and HDR on the 172 remote.

      I don’t think any blu ray player remote will change your volume, unless tv or receiver are the same brand as the blu ray player. Even then, I’m skeptical. I think the volume buttons on this remote are used for analog playback, not digital HDMI playback.

      Just as an aside, the HDR Setting Standard option leaves the Dynamic Range adjustment at 0, Natural sets it to 4, Light Environments 8 and Bright Environment sets it to 11. So instead of the presets you get more granularity by not using those 4 settings that you can get to with the missing button.
