Great to see, I used to have a beacon for many years running a half watt and got reports from all over the place. Sent out a lot of qsl cards for reception reports that came in. Good luck and I will check out your freq from time to time.
Nice vid. I currently have a beacon running on 28.245.3 and it’s listed on that list. Nice part on explaining coordination. I ran mine at first uncoordinated and boy did I get myself in a predicament. Coordinating was a hassle and I really was treated like garbage by another ham who “reported” me being uncoordinated. In the end the whole situation was resolved but still left a bad taste on me since that ham started to name call me and disrespect me. However don’t let that discourage you from getting a beacon. It’s fun setting it up and maintaining it. My first report came from England. 73 K0WKT
This is good only issue with beacons is running at your home with hogs up antenna or desense reviever on other daytime bands even at 5watts .But more repeater sites/remote locations is a good set up to. I'll take a listen after 1st. Tune in on 28.228.50 CW mode see if your here up into SW PA . 8a - 6:30p Eastern . 73
Yeah, thanks for the /B in FLA. Nice to have another stateside. I've been able to juuuuuust get a little bit of a copy on you up here in wny. Nothing solid yet. Receiving on a 135' 80m efhw, up Abt 40', strung NW to SE in inv V, with the ends up 10'. 73, maybe wrk you one day.
Who is coordinating 10 meter beacons? I've been a ham since '89 and I have a spare 10 meter antenna and want to put up a 10 meter beacon, but I haven't been able to find who is coordinating beacons these days. I haven't heard back from Denis. Thanks & 73 AA2HA
Good job Eric! Definitely can't get it why some morrons dislike such a nice initiative. RXing locations of ur beacon will also depend on take off angle. 73 de Chris ha7wx
Once I get my 11M radio (RCI 2950 and it can transmit from 26-31MHz) up and running I will tune in and se if I can hear you on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean once there is propagation.
I was wondering if you could use that type of keyer. I am not at good at cw so I am trying to find a pc programmable keyer for my 10m beacon. I might be able to find a one of the kit companies program it with a paddle for me.
Great video and tnx. I have same setup but how do you setup the 464 to repeat every 60 seconds? The command /L loops it continuously but no setting on time to repeat. Any help is appreciated.
Boiled tell you that Yaesu 450 looks puny next to that 7300 yeah that radio for 50s 2009 vintage damn near a decade-old probably would still work perfect if that the antenna didn't hit the Powerline you're right there's probably the micro up processor I guess they're fragile great video 73 Old Man
Does your beacon controller recover automatically after a power outage? Our local beacon, WB0BIN 28286.5, has an arduino board for a controller. It has the feature of resuming without any operator intervention after power is restored. (The radio is another matter...) Great to see new 10m beacons on the air! 73, Alan
I just purchased a Radio Shack HTX-10 and going to make an inverted V dipole antenna I bought a Workman HP201s SWR Watt Meter. Will that meter help me tune the dipole antenna? Thanks!
something I am not sure of, you said it's your frequency? so if every radio ham had their own frequency you would find there would be no frequencies free? i am being silly I know lol lol (or am I )
SPT-500 is an excellent antenna! Your beacon idea was excellent!
Was receiving a S3 in Chesapeake, VA in a mobile unit on December 3 at 0800 W4YNG 73

Ive had a mfj-464 for some time now. I have know idea how to use it for the most part. Looking forward to a video on that.
Still waiting as well , guess he has forgotten that he said he would .

Just on time this beacon comes handy. Now there's great propagation on 10 meter. Join us on our net 28.380

I'm gearing up for the 10 meter contest coming up, really looking forward to it, hopefully there will be some openings!
I bet you magically the band opens that day LOL
Sorry, I can not hear it on my Antron 99 or dipole. North East Al,
I wish people would get back on 10 meter. Great for local.
December and January are the best times for winter time sporadic E skip. That's the best time to listen out for 10 and 6 meters.
Eric, thanks for being a "beacon" of light. ;)

Thanks! I'd bump up your break-in delay to stop your xcvr from dropping out of tx mode during transmissions. I'll listen for you! 73
S3 into my QTH at the moment. Nice job Eric!!

10 meters was on fire yesterday 3/4/23. I talked all over the globe with 100 watts and a omnidirectional antenna 15 foot high lol

cool stuff Eric.. good way to check propagation

Will b listening on my 10 meter ht.
I'm up in Winter Garden - nothing here yet!
Program the beacons in your memory banks! It’s a good use of all those unused memory channels/banks on most people’s rigs.
Very cool Eric! It's a nice way to repurpose that 450!
Club I used to be a member of had plans to build a beacon on 6 meters. it died when one of the members died.
I was wondering if you could use that type of keyer. I am not at good at cw so I am trying to find a pc programmable keyer for my 10m beacon. I might be able to find a one of the kit companies program it with a paddle for me.
This is sweet Eric! Long live 10 meters!
Just checked, nothing yet.
Is it still running? I keep listening in England, UK but nothing heard.
Can't seem to hear it in Mass. Might be my poor antenna placement, I haven't heard anything but static on my 10m so far.
Hello, can you show me how did you wired the mfj 464 to the yaesu 450. I have the same equiptment but I cannot make it work.
Can just barely hear it on a sdr located near me very cool.
Where do you live?
@@HamRadioConcepts North eastern Pennsylvania the sdr i was using is located in milford pa. the website is k3fef.com:8901/
