@@alexprivates356 That's what I love of Macs... 9 years old, and still relevant. I probably change it next year for a MBAir 13", because I want more disk space and a lighter device.

Won’t upgrade from my M3 Pro for another 10 years…M10 Pro may be out by then at this pace that Apple is releasing repeated products with minor changes that make a performance difference for average users
Matt, I fully agree that the M4 Max is powerful and tempting to get my hands on. However most users wont need that amount of power. It would be nice to have a video on how to rationalize the upgrade. Having owned the M4 Max for over 3 years, I still think it is an overkill for most workflows. What do you think?
As someone possibly upgrading from M1 Pro. M4 Pro seems like the first new M chip that would be a worthy substantial upgrade. I realistically could probably wait for M5 Pro or even M6 Pro. The biggest reason i'm considering the upgrade is because when M1 Macbook Pros came out i had to get something quick for a job i was starting and had to go with a configuration that was less RAM and SSD than i wanted because it was shipping sooner. So if i did upgrade to M4 Pro i would get the right amount of RAM and SSD and then i probably wouldn't think about upgrading again for a long time. Like M8 series. Macbook Pros will definitely have OLED and who knows what else by then and that'd basically be the only thing worth upgrading for from this new M4 series in my opinion.
I have 2 of the M1 pros. I use them for running playback for touring. They struggle some now but just got an m3 pro and it is substantially faster. Can’t imagine m4 pro how fast it would be. Definitely worth the upgrade. Trade in at Best Buy and get about $800 for your old one
Hello. I recently moved to France from Japan, and I’m currently not working. It’s been 8 years since I last bought a MacBook, but I’m thinking of getting one soon. What do you think would be the best fit for me? Here are my needs: • Photo and video editing (both at an intermediate level) • Administrative tasks and daily use • Playing Death Stranding smoothly Thanks in advance for your advice!
U should not as it is money grab and unethical practice from Apple by releasing a slightly different machine each year😂🎉I had my 2010 MacBook pro for 14 years and only after 14 years I upgraded to another M3 Pro 😊😂
the only thing thats on my mind around the m4 pro its the 24 gb of unified memory vs the 18 that my M3 pro has ... beside that im more than happy with the performance .
I still have an M1 with 16gb ram and it does everything I need but I do think if I could get a good deal on an M3 pro now the 4 is out it could be a great option
This year among the M4 chips family the MacBook with M4 or M4 pro are great value for money as compared to M4 Max MacBook, they did the same for their IPhone 16 line up this year least update given to Pro max model. Waiting for the real world comparison between M4 pro and M3 pro…
Looking to upgrade from my 13”MacBook Pro with the original M1 chip to the 14” MacBook Pro with the M4 max chip (base model) with 1TB storage. I know this will be an unpopular statement but I will miss the Touch Bar.
@@ayushshandilya1451 I bought a 16” m3 max 1tb and 48gb of ram. It was $1,000 off from sale and open box. Been using it for a bit now and no regrets. If you can save $500-600 go with m3. My opinion though.
Depends on when you bought it and what were your current demands. If it was like week before M4 release, then maybe regret it but if you had to buy it for some specific usecase in that moment, so theres no reason to regret it I think. :D
Which would you buy if they were same price, actually m4 is 100 dollars cheaper. An m4 pro with 16g of memory 10 core cpu and gpu or M3 pro 14 core gpu and 11 core cpu?
@@thomschonfelder well, the only difference is the slightly faster M4 chip (even the same 3nm process). All the hardware is the same. Why in the earth would be an upgrade necessary? Sorry, sounds like a joke to me.
@@AbstractJan ok thanks. I want to use Parallels and i thought ok 48 GB RAM and better performance ... Much RUclipsr told the M3 Pro is not sooo good. Better the M4 Pro. I want to use the mac for perhaps 2-3 Years till a new design is comming . 🤣
@@thomschonfelder your fine with M3. Depends on your usage. If you want more go for MAX model. Iam still using M1 MAX for graphic design and everythink just works smooth… maybe when apple upgrade the design (oled screen, face id, better speakers…) i will upgrade. Cheers
Extra 2 cores is amazing?? ok ram is good, however my M3 is 36GB so still very good performance. I will not switch untill having at least double the core number.
Are you impressed by the M4 Pro Performance?
deffo... I'm gonna pick one up. Wondering If I should hold out for Black Friday or just bite the bullet now...
Yes I am…
But honestly I am still working with my old Intel based machine a MacBook Pro 13” (2015). But this year it will change.

ordered myself the m4 pro with nano-texture i cant wait to pick it up! upgraded to 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD. this thing is a power house!
Excellent video Matt 🎉😊
great review matt
M3 Pro is the one you want once the prices start to drop. M3 is already overkill powerful and has almost all the same specs

For some workflow purposes the M4 Max is beneficial. But that’s only for 1% of apple users.
@ exactly. So a guide on who should upgrade from M1 Max to M4 max will be helpful.
Hey Matt!
Can we expect the standard M4 to perform similarly to the M3 Pro? 🤔
Exactly the video I wanted ❤
Thanks Matt!
M4 Pro looks like the sweetspot, great jump over the M4 and not too far behind the Max, looking to buy that one!
Awesome video

Updated a 2020 M1 Air to a 2024 M4 Pro MacBook Pro. I expect another 4-5 years of use out of this machine.
It’ll probably last you much longer than that tbh
Same here, from a base 7-core macbook air m1 to the fully spec m4 pro! can't wait till friday!

I am still rocking macbook pro 2020 intel i5, I almost pull the trigger on the m3 pro, glad that I wait.

Still on my M1 Air. Don't think I'll be upgrading.
Yes, the Air M1 is impressive and has from my point of you the best ratio from performance to the buck…

Yes! 🤩
tbh, the biggest catch to me is the base 16gb ram and i can spend the cash elsewhere instead of upgrading the ram

At this rate, even if the laptop can turn into a transformer, it really makes no difference cos the old chips are so powerful already:

I think so
Even the first M1 Macbooks were worth upgrading, even compared to 2019 Pros.
Please review mbp m4 base model vs mbp m3 pro🥲
Can't decide between 14" or 16" 😭
What do you recommend buying, a new m4 or a m3 pro with a discount?
I’m wondering the same… I want to upgrade from 14” to 16”.
i’m in the same boat
