    I forgot to mention in the video that the part that failed is a 2nd head. All the tips are interchangeable with both heads. Both heads are identicle in every way.

      I just got one last week and the 2nd head failed right out the gate for me too.

      Yes. I was giving a new one the next week. I've been using both heads for over a year now with no problems.

      So it’s common for the heads to go out?

    Figured I'd treat myself to a few new bits for work today and got myself one of these soldering irons along with the TORCH400 and a pair of 87ACF diagonal cutters. The iron works really well. The hot knife cutter, hot air adaptor and plastic welding adaptor all work too. As for the igniter, its a piezo-electric starter. Give it a few moments between strikes if it doesn't ignite. Too many rapid clicks stresses them out. Same deal with disposable lighters too. You'll know when the hot air adaptor is working as you can look straight down the end and you'll see the wire mesh inside glowing orange. Best to turn the gas all the way down, then turn up 1/4 of a turn, slide the switch forward to set the gas going, give it an extra 2 seconds and give it a firm push forward with a slight hold to ignite it. When you see the mesh inside glowing, turn up the gas as high as you want to get some proper heat output. I managed to heatshrink several loom splices with the air adaptor as well as soldering said splices with the extra wide tip and still had plenty of gas left over. Not gonna' beat a worktop version of course but this is perfect portability wise.

    I have one, and it works great. The magnetic feature kicks in too, it will hold to something metal so you can sort of work the wires by moving them while the tool is stationary.

  • @ianmcneil68
    @ianmcneil68 5 лет назад +1

    You have to play with fuel adjustment. The book says to turn it to high but I had issues with that. Try turning it down all the way and then go up from there. It worked for me and mine was doing the same thing yours did.

    • @JUSTINATV
      @JUSTINATV  5 лет назад

      My Snap-on guy and me both tried everything we could think of and everything the book said to do. It was definitely D.O.A.

    Have one of these…
    Nothing but trouble!
    The failure mode is a super thin contact on the back of the tip.
    It’s for connecting the piezo energy to the igniter in the tip.
    That breaks off with use, and I imagine with any abuse.
    I’m very careful with mine, and this will be the fourth dead tip in 2 years.
    For $175.00, it’s a shame they didn’t build it robustly.

    First time use of heat gun tip requires lighting with match Pre heat - probably to take off coating on internal of tip. The flame will dissappear once the inside glow coil is working properly. Once it is lit, from then on it will light properly.

    Read the instructions before returning it. It said in my instructions that the heat tip will only light with the gas turned to about half.

    • @JUSTINATV
      @JUSTINATV  6 лет назад

      It was a defective. He and I tried several different ways and things to try and to get it to work. Since the video I have gotten a replacement and it works no matter where I have the gas set. But after I shot the video I did read the instructions just to make sure I wasn't doing something right.

    Do the tipsaybe have a ventilation hole built in, similar to the first soldering adapter you installed and it worked? Thinking the 2nd adapter that dosnht work, because it didn't have any tips installed, may not have the adequate air ventilation to easily ignite... Not pretending that it's good, bc the 2nd is a heat gun style adapter, and you may not want to use a tip and prefer to have the straight heat gun... But on the other hand, if not having that last hole, as the tips look to have, is the problem, then ya may wana drill a lit vent hol near the end of the tip in the 2nd adapter...

    You didnt open the vent port, thats the tiny circles in the aluminum cover try to rotate it so it will open and then you'll get good results

    • @JUSTINATV
      @JUSTINATV  5 лет назад

      It was already determined that it was D.O.A. We put another top part on and it fired right up, tried the top part on 2 other torches and it still wouldn't work.
      And there is no way to adjust the vent ports on this torch. They are fixed open.

      Thank you! Only updated I have is that its is still working great! The one end that was D.O.A. was replaced by my Snap-on dealer free of charge. He seen this video and seen it was D.O.A.. it gets hot really fast and doesn't burn the butane out fast. This is my favorite soldering iron.

  • @felipecernas1447
    @felipecernas1447 4 года назад

    At 5:22 you can literally see you breaking it. It was a "lock" feature on the head so you won't be able to remove it if the gas is on, but sure, let blame the tool or manufacturer.

    • @JUSTINATV
      @JUSTINATV  4 года назад +2

      It didn't break, and still to this day it has never been broken. The tip/head wasn't damaged in anyway other than it did not work. Me and my Snap-on rep looked it over and compared it to 2 others. It simply was D.O.A.

    @YouLikeToast 5 лет назад

    I bought one of these boys and it's ok. Made very well, feels nice. BUT it doesn't get hot enough. The chisel tips and the large tip are usable, but the point tip and the hot air tip really suck. The pointy tip doesn't even get hot enough at the tip to melt the included solder. Disappointed altogether. This thing has real potential and is designed very nicely but it's just not hot enough.
