Still a good tool for soldering. It's easy to get a new soldering tip if the old one is too worn out. Gets hot quick, no cord, easy to handle. Perfect for household use, but I prefer an adjustable soldering station for more advanced use. Household use, search no more.
Looking forward to the follow up video where you cook a chicken with it. I bought one specifically for that job. Edit: just saw the end where you said you didn't have any success with a chicken. I'll try a chicken leg and report back.
I'm considering buying one of these irons and looking at reviews. You jest about cooking a chicken but I could see a chef using the torch tip to braise desserts and appetizers with one of these. Thanks for making this honest and genuine review.
Hi Ronald I am going to do an update on this when I get the chance for the first twelve months I think the iron was superb but after this last winter it's started to act up I am still looking into it bud hopefully have a solution just thought I'd let you know cheers bud
@@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP Thanks for the reply. I do look forward to an update by you after one year of use. That would be very helpful to me and others I'm sure. I've used a Weller Portasol for years but it quit on me due to a clogged jet, and the jet is not a supported spare part by the manufacturer. What I've learned after the fact is these butane soldering irons - regardless of manufacturer - are best fueled with "triple refined" butane. There are several grades of bottled butane and some are considered quite "dirty" by relative standards. The tripled refined grade should keep the jets clean and is overall a better choice for longer term storage, if you're not a frequent user of this tool. Thanks again!
Thanks for the concise & informative video. It's certainly easy to handle as a wood burning tool but there are not enough of the right tips included. I will need to see if others are available.
You'll find it will fill will gas alot easier if you hold the soldering iron vertical with it's valve facing upwards and then inject your gas cannister downwards vertical into the dremel.
Hi Paul I have found if the gas is to cold it won't ignite make sure the tank is full and take it into a warm place in house maybe and keep the tank warm I've wrapped a sponge round mine for working out doors hope this helps good luck buddy
Hi buddy it's was pretty cold but a little info for you it was frosty the other morning around -2 ish and I had to use the iron and it frozen up on me so if you intend to use it in cold conditions it my not work hope this helps cheers

Good tool while it works... mine has gone in about 8 months and the replacement part doesn't exist on its own... the catalyst gauze. I wouldn't recommend this tool

Thanx, i bought it blindly 30e, brilliant tool. Nice video and your accent is lovely :)
1:01 😂 "You can cook a chicken in 15 minutes" lol
It'd be interesting seeing the toolbox/general tools you use at work for the job Paul, if possible
Hi Josh if you check my other channel sharpeys garage I've done a toolbox tour you might like
Does it work for soldering?
Straight to the point as always and informative. Thanks
+kestrelpat thanks you for the support

I am thinking of getting one to sear salmon but also to solder odd jobs. Did you actually end up buying it for said purpose? if so how did you do?

What do you reccomend for wood burning?
You'll find it will fill will gas alot easier if you hold the soldering iron vertical with it's valve facing upwards and then inject your gas cannister downwards vertical into the dremel.
Good quality doesn't use too much gas i paid 35 pounds i am happy
Did the attachment for filling come with the butane or was it a separate purchase ?
really dissapointed with the chicken cooking part, the rest top notch ;-) thanks for sharing!
Turn up the gas for wood burning as it needs to be much hotter. Also, get the specific wood burning tips.
Had one for Xmas, having trouble starting it up,? It worked 1st try for about a minute but now it just won't ignite .

Why put solder on the tip for wood burning
Aaaaaaiii, dont woodburn with the soldering tip tough 😓
Nice job Paul, Merry Christmas too you & your family mate.
Baz.
+moodyjeep same to you buddy good luck for the new year
I buying i can't believe perfect
You were always in a rush weren't? Enough said... So that was what you were buying... Nice production
How cold was it in your workshop?

yes mine too. the catalyst mesh screen seems to be the issue when it is fully burnt up, it won't auto ignite anymore
Can you still ignite it with a normal lighter?
@@becomematrix You can still ignite and use it as a small torch but none of the attachments will work.
Diogo Couto sucks. I just bought one and it is great. If it fails I will contact dremel about it.
@@becomematrix Great! I hope it last long on your hands, I loved mine while it was working. Bought a Portasol kit after and it works great for me now.
Your funny , thnks for video.
Nice thanks!
my chicken is uncooked now :))
nice video
Thanks buddy
A useful review, thanks.
+Andy Pugh cheers Andy
It might not be the best because they copied the exact design from Lexivon which is identical in every way even the tips are interchangeable 😂
Does it work for soldering jewellery?
