Another tip: Learn Mario Kart 'lingo. If you like Mario Kart and want to learn more about it, it's best you learn the terms for certain things in the game so when you find a helpful video, you aren't lost. Here's some definitions, because I'm a fucking nerd. vvv Bagging Track - A track that gives an advantage to players who consistently slow down to get items, usually due to the high amount of shortcuts or the amount of power a shock dodge holds. Frontrunning Track - A track that gives an advantage to players who consistently stay in the front. Usually a track with little to no shortcuts, or a track with multiple shroomless shortcuts. Shroomless Shortcut - A shortcut that can be done without use of a mushroom or item that speeds you up. Shock dodge - When a player is not affected by a shock due to a circumstance. This could be being in a star, bullet bill, or just falling off the track at the perfect time. Invisibility Frames - The amount of frames after you get hit where you cannot be affected by an item again. Back (used in a sentence "i was backed by a green shell" or "i backed a green shell") - When someone throws an item behind themself. When used "I was backed", it means someone threw an item behind themself, and the person was hit. Trailed "I was trailed" - When you get too close to a player holding an item behind them, and you hit the item. Snaking - Repeatedly charging up mini turbos on a straight path by drifting left and right, sharply enough to charge a mini-turbo quickly, but not sharp enough to affect driving. these are just the ones i got off the top of my head, I'll edit this list if I think of more (or if someone replies and suggests me something to add)
MT- mini turbo. The blue boost you get from a drift and the weakest one SMT- Super mini turbo. Orange and slightly better UMT- Ultra mini turbo. Purple and the longest lasting
Maybe this is self explanatory for others but it wasn’t for me when I first began - but lag trail - getting hit by seemingly nothing but it’s because of server lag you actually got smoked by someone’s trailed item and you were also no where “near” it.
Tip #6: never throw a green shell forward because against all odds it will somehow find a way to come back and hit you 😆 Thx for the tips 👍 I’ll try using the meta combo more
Honestly after getting smoked in lounge and blaming most my problems on lag or being unlucky I needed to hear that last bit. Also I just Followed the Twitch.
I do agree that this game involves more skill but sometimes i get the most egregious races beyond my control like being red shelled into oblivion or getting hit by random green shells or lag trails😭😭
The part about luck is really true. Although there is the occasional race that is won or lost by a lucky item pull, most of the time my own blunders are what actually cause me to lose. It's rather surprising just how influential skillful driving and item play are. But if you've ever been in a room where one person just keeps winning over and over, you simply cannot chalk it up to them just getting lucky. In fact, if Mario Kart was solely a luck-based game, why even play it? Why not just flip a coin for a few hours and see how many correct guesses you can get?
My friend literally plays with normal CPUs and just spams red shells and it is insufferable to play, because it literally just feels like flipping a coin for an hour. You can be 30 seconds ahead on waluigi stadium and eat 6 reds and a blue shell on the finish line and somehow lose. Or you can just sit in second, intentionally driving slow, getting nothing but bananas while no blue ever comes. Now, while those unlucky games are not _all_ the time - when every game is ultimately decided by who has the red shells at the end, all it takes is a few stupidly unlucky rounds to be almost permanently locked into 2nd overall. And then despite getting plenty of lucky races, and having a completely self destructive strategy, he will attribute everything to skill just because theres nobody around to punish him for being an idiot.
PSA: This may be obvious but you dont have to pick Yoshi for the meta combo. Anyone in the same weight class and give the same stats as his will do just fine. Peach, Peachette, Daisy, and Birdo are also cosmetic options. Also, Cat Cruiser is an alternative to Teddy Buggy as they have the exact same stats, but Cat Cruiser has a higher invincibility stat. People say that Teddy Buggy has a smaller hurtbox but ive never seen any definitive proof of that mattering. (they both look as wide but cat cruiser is slightly longer) Regardless, both are meta so pick which one you like more.
I totally agree. It's important to note that the vehicles (and characters) with the same stats don't seem to feel the same while driving. It's good to try them and see which feels best. One example I noticed only yesterday was that I felt like Birdo and Daisy drove slightly differently. I'm not sure if it was my imagination or not. The Cat Cruiser has its own unique feel. Another consideration is how much a vehicle or character blocks your view. One reason the Paper Glider is more popular than the Parachute or Flower is its smaller visual profile. I switched from Birdo to Daisy last night because the huge bow on Birdo's head blocked me from seeing a banana peel on the road.
Ive noticed nobody ever makes a guide on how to prevent getting hit by 6 different shells on the final corner of a race while 30 seconds ahead. Its a surprisingly common scenario.
I agree with Latias38 below, who mentioned that there are multiple characters with the same stats as Yoshi and multiple vehicles with the same stats as the Teddy Buggy. This is also true of the wheels and gliders. Theoretically, according to the stats anyway, if you run Daisy on a Cat Cruiser with a Cloud Glider, you are matching a Yoshi on a Teddy Buggy with a Paper Glider. However, it's important to note that the vehicles (and characters) with the same stats don't seem to feel the same while driving. It's good to try them and see which feels best for you. One example I noticed only yesterday was that I felt like Birdo and Daisy drove slightly differently. I'm not sure if it was my imagination or not. The Cat Cruiser has its own unique feel as well. Another consideration is how much a vehicle or character blocks your view. One reason the Paper Glider is more popular than the Parachute or Flower is its smaller visual profile. I switched from Birdo to Daisy last night because the huge bow on Birdo's head blocked me from seeing a banana peel on the road--with unfortunate results.
Me personally, I like to play as lightweights while also sticking with the meta. The characters I use is Koopa, Dry bones Shy Guy, Toad, Toadette, Tanuki Mario, Kamek, Luigi, and Inkling Boy on the teddybuggy
L1am for learning the online shroomless lines is better to watch the NITA wrs or to use the videos about it on yt just a quick question also amazing vid
i've heard this so many times lol, cat cruiser is good and a viable option, but invincibility does not matter at all and is only gonna help you in extremely niche situations, + the hitbox is worse and atv's are usually a lot more comfortable to drive
@@l1ammk "the hitbox is worse and atv's are usually a lot more comfortable to drive" Do we have any definitive proof of this mattering? Just from looking at it they both look as wide but cat cruiser is slightly longer. Plus both Teddy Buggy and Cat Cruiser are outside drifting vehicles so I dont understand how one is more comfy to drive than the other. Anyways I feel like these differences are so minor its just a matter of preference, but objectively speaking I would think the Cat Cruiser is better. Even if its very rare, the extra invul frames could save you from getting hit twice. But in practice I usually go Cat Cruiser if I go Peach or Teddy Buggy if I go Peachette. I like Peach as a character far more but honestly Peachette's trick animations are soooo good on a bike or ATV, so I end up using both at times.
I definetely need a video on the best combos for online! I play King Boo with the Teddy Buggy and roller tires but feel outclassed by other combinations. I have also seen people that say Yoshi, Birdo, Peachette and Daisy are on par when it comes to their stats but I never see people use Daisy.
If you're not seeing people use Daisy that's a personal preference thing on their end. Yoshi, Birdo, Peach, Daisy, and Peachette are all exactly the same in terms of stats. Popularity and personal preference are gonna dictate which of them you'll see, but they're all the same.
I ran Daisy last night after Birdo's bow blocked a banana peel ahead of me. She has a smaller profile and wards a better view of the road. I don't agree with the video for the first tip. There are identical setups to Yoshi/Teddy Buggy and nearly identical with only slight differences in stats that barely matter (such a a slightly lower or higher Invincibility). Also if you don't make full use of Mini Turbo, it would probably be best to make up for it by choosing a combination that sacrifices one point of Mini Turbo to get a higher speed.
technically the cat cruiser has a higher invincibility stat. People say Teddy Buggy has a smaller hitbox but ive never seen definitive proof of that mattering. To my understanding they both look as wide but cat cruiser is slightly longer. Either way Id argue the Cat Cruiser > Teddy Buggy....but the differences are so minor you might as well just pick which one you like more. Ive also never heard of karts and ATVs driving differently. Assuming same stats and same drifting type, all ive seen ATVs do is give characters their biker gear but with kart like driving.
atv's are generally found to be more comfortable to drive and invincibility does not matter at all + the hitbox is a little worse (the case for a lot of karts), cat cruiser is only slightly worse though as you said and still a good option if you prefer to rock the pussy mobile
I use Yoshi Bike online, because it has the same stats as Teddy Buggy and happen to play much better with inward drift. I win quite often. It will be interesting to see as my VR hits 30K if I keep winning or if I have to learn outside drift.
Cat Cruiser has slightly more invincibility frames but there aren't really any other differences as far as I'm aware. It's *possible* that Teddybuggy might have a smaller vehicle size or that there might be slight differences in how they handle due to one being an ATV and one being a kart but I don't think there's anything confirmed there. Teddybuggy's just more popular and the invincibility difference doesn't really matter so you tend to see it much more. As for Pipe Frame, Teddybuggy and Cat Cruiser have better all-around Spd stats since Pipe Frame loses a fair bit of Spd during antigravity and glider sections which isn't worth the extra water Spd. It's still a fine vehicle since it's got the same ground Spd and Mini Turbo as Teddybuggy/Cat Cruiser, but it is worse than them.

Now tell me how to not get random greened by shells that are bouncing for like 2 minutes
If you are behind the green, don't go ahead of its path slow down, if it's behind you, pray.
Remember to press x occasionally to check behind you
Be faster
Hold items behind you and don't worry about it. Unless it's coming at you from the side. Then worry a lot.
