If you started on switch then the curve is tough. I played this game on Wii U for years and I’m still happy when I’m just in the top 6, really happy when I podium and ecstatic when I win. Keep practicing though and one day you’ll sometimes do well lol
About the kusaan slide technique, I've done multiple test on excitebike arena and I've noticed something interesting. So the patch they added that killed firehopping only kicks in when to do multiple sideway motions, but for some reason you can technically bypass the patch for a fraction of a second during a trick boost by doing just one or two normal side hops, slides or neutral hops. The amount of speed gained is about the same as doing the kusaan slide. This is just from what I've experienced so i could be totally wrong.
It's interesting just how many of these I was doing instictively. I only really need to learn soft drifting (which isn't complicated) and delay drifting.
I don't know if this is already known or not, if you do an smt followed by 1 neutral hop followed by 2 hard hops to one side, you can fire hop. I found an example on sydney sprint first turn, you can get an smt and do 2 hops to realign and get ready for the mt trick... BUT if you charge a smt and slightly thighten the drift angle, you charge the smt faster and if you do the 3 firehops, you save about .150. It feels like the 3rd hop so the last hop after the smt is a firehop.
I’m a casual, but two things have helped me. First is being able to seamlessly transition to a drift from a trick ramp. I didn’t know you could hold hop after landing back. Helps with those immediate 180 turns. Second (for online play) is sliding out, left or right. This helps to quickly avoid something immediately in front or behind me, or to swing out and grab a mushroom that just fell from a lightning.
Great job on this video. I have been annoyed trying to get my drifting right, and the fact you're able to prove that drifting is such an easy feat, I've had no problems after watching. Great job, and keep up the good work! (I'm more of a casual player, but I like competitive sometimes, in which I will play with either one of my 3 mains; Link, Wario or Villager) Also, regarding the message in brackets above, does anyone have any tips for a decent combo for Villager that uses the Roller wheels? Thanks and great video JP.
Super short vid, but insanely informative and straight to the point. Other videos like these over complete things I get completely lost… also I didn’t know that you had to press r again after you go off the ramp to glider vector… i’ve been wondering why it wasn’t working lol
As someone who soft drifts all the time, I prefer angling the L stick up instead of down due to the fact that you can accelerate by holding up or down and I'd want to avoid accidentally slowing down.
Good video.. I would like to learn about slides in MK8DX, for example the slide that is done in Water Park before the stairs at the beginning of the track, I don't know its name but I don't know how to do it either, and other examples like the demon slide, and that kind of advanced techniques, it would be nice in any video, unfortunately the video did not have subtitles

While drifting on a long enough curve counter steer even if you don't have to. The more you counter steer the quicker the boost builds up. Even if you start your drift sometimes it's worth it to spam the joystick left and right really quickly... Drifting is the key to winning races
And this is why I will never be able to leave the 9k-11k online points limbo... I reached 10K points back in 2021, and now 3 years later I STILL HAVEN'T GOT ANYWHERE CLOSE TO 11K... the points distribution between 9K-11K is so unbelievably broken... I somehow get first, I get a measly 12 (or less) points... but if I get lower than 4th/5th, oh boy... MINUS 25+ POINTS FOR YOU... If I ever manage to get to 11k, I will probably actually take pity on the poor souls in the same postion as I am now and let them ahead of me at the finish line...
Ah I wish you covered the hops you and others seem to do before drifting. I've heard them called alignment hops or counter hopping but I still can't get my head around its use
I'll explain it, so imagine a very sharp turn like the first one on the rainbow road, if you UMT off of that and don't slow down somehow on a heavyweight build you will fall off the edge. That's where you would hop to the left once or twice which slows down your cart and allows you to drift almost immediately afterwards in the other direction without going too far to the right. The other one is too align for ultra specific shortcuts like the dragon driftway cut or hopping in the opposite direction after a drift so your boost goes straight instead of diagonal. Hope this helps.
I was an addict for mario kart 8 (non-deluxe) whe i was like 8-11 and I got so damn good like I taking close to wr on some tracks and I love watching videos like this where I already know everything and it makes me feel smart. Also brake drifting is the only reason 200cc is possible let's be real. Also one last thing, what happened to drift hopping? When you hop back and forth after using a boost to save momentum
I noticed that occasionally when I enter a drift, I start drifting in the opposite direction than what I am holding. Do you have an idea why that is? I know it is not JoyCon drift...

One correction is that getting purple , orange or blue drifts doesnt depends on the time ur drifting, instead it depedens on the amoun of "rotation" you have done while drifting so while u do more wided drifts you will increase your mini turbo slower than doing closed drifts that will increase your mini turbo faster.
So, do you soft drift in the opposite direction of the turn of same direction? I just end up turning hard as if i was flat 90 degrees... doesn't make sense otherwise
Two main types of these: hops after a drift to get better alignment (like on the first turn of mariokart stadium shown here, when he builds the UMT he's going towards the wall and he corrects with a hop) and hops before a drift to make building levels of miniturbo easier (called counterhopping).
If you have the butt antenna on (Smart steering assist ) you WILL NOT get purple. In this game it has nothing to do with wiggling the stick like in the older mario karts. Instead it builds up faster the tighter the drift is!! You can still do it on a wide drift. It just takes much longer. So just carve those corners a bit more!
Glider techniques he forgot to mention (glider vectoring charge up a orange or purple mini turbo and hold it till you go off the glider and then let go, now tilt your left stick in the opposite direction 45 degrees to redirect yourself and there you go, cannon glider, when your about to go on a cannon glider do not trick instead hop at the end of the blue part and if you did it correctly you know that it will pop out way faster, motion glider this saves DOUBLE the amount of time that glider vectoring does, in fact you can actually combine it with glider vectoring and low glider to save so many seconds it’ not even funny, first do glider vectoring, charge up a purple or orange mini turbo till you go off the glider do low glider ASAP then turn on motion controls not so fast the inputs don’t register turn tilt your controller 45 degrees in a way that actually matches with your left stick 45 degrees, here are some more glider techniques, now this 1 is literally just unexplainable but it’s called Jenzua glider, and um I think this can only be done on electro don yet this saves INSANE amount of time this is completely based off of luck and even the greatest time trial player of all time Alberto says it himself just watch shortcats short videos if you wanna know, now this is a secret one don’t tell your friends, since “super glider” is already a thing I actually did some experiments and I found something, this insane technique is called “hyper glider” now this does not exactly help with the turns when drifting but it is game changer if you know how to do this properly, so how to do this technique, me personally I suggest turning in smart steering for this, again eletrodom is best to practice all these glider techniques, (except jenzua glider) this is the ULTIMATE glider technique that requires real skill you already cause”we must stay focus brothers we must stay focus” cause “but you gotta focus” here it is… before I think you literally combine all glider techniques into 1 I don’t know yet for sure but anyways Do do glider vectoring, low glider ASAP turn on motion controls now wiWith your right hand you see that d-pad yes use your right hand to press the “right arrow and down arrow for diagonal or left arrow depending on the direction you did with glider vectoring, and there you go you just did it, if you wanna see the video though it’s called, “hyper glider in Mario kart 8 deluxe” If you see this then please like not cause I’m begging for you beggars over there but because I try my hardest and my best and it took SO LONG to write all of this I’m surprised I was able to type that fast on an IPAD yes a whole ass fucking IPAD Edit: here are 2 more drifting techniques he forgot to mention, 1. Counter hopping, now this is useful for soft drifting if you want to charge an even longer soft drifting, and it’s very easy but crucial to know, don’t counter hop on every turn cause counter hopping when you don’t need it just makes you take a bad line, but you literally just do a hop in the opposite direction and then you can do a delayed drift + soft drifting 2. Snaking, for those who seen enough wrs you know exactly what I’m yapping about, now this depends on your mini turbo stat but if done precisely snaking is much faster than just driving in a straight line in fact this is the technique that helps the slowest combo being able to keep up with the fastest combo in the game, so it’s simple right, nope you need a relatively wide road for this, but if the road is not right enough than you can do a combination of counter hopping and snaking, how to do snaking, charge a mini turbo but not orange nor purple, only blue charge it up till it gets to blue and keep doing but don’t keep doing this cause eventually you’ll into the off-road… oh wait there is 1 more technique I forgot and that is Extra technique he not include: hopping, not just hopping but (alignment hops) now this is actually one of the 3 main reasons why pro players hop so much, let me tell you right now hopping is just as important as soft drifting unlike drifting hopping instantly turns your kart a lot, here’s where alignment hops can save your life from you quitting the game forever and getting a new life, whenever you turned too sharply you can just hop to instantly align you back, if you don’t already do this then make a halt to do this, every Time you drift after that drift ends always do a hop, I’m not even joking doing this 1 simple trick can instantly improve your driving skills, so now that you learned all drifting techniques you need to know from the video and me he didn’t put in the video you think you’re going to have to unlearn your drifting habits and my friend you are correct, now this may seem hard but master soft driving and alignment hops and all the other techniques and glider techniques will change the way you play this game forever… Now I just want to say that becoming a pro takes time because you have to master all the important stuff, why learn this thought? Well what happens is that slowly one by one people online will easily be passing and from my experscience that’s bad because when you get passed that more likely means you are going to get into last place and start bagging to take off your items to dodge the shake Take advantage of your speed stat to use the speed items to make a comeback and steal first place and have no more friends congratulations
How to out run a blue shell: 1. Get 10 coins 2. Use natural drift this absolutely essential and what I found interesting is the fact that it’s faster than moving while drifting 3. Choose a high speed combo, uh here’s a high speed combo for you guys, ( Dk + cat cruiser + those red tires (not rollers nor azure rollers forgot what they were called and uh choose paper glider yeah) 4. Play on 200cc, let me tell you out running a blue shell is impossible on 150cc, not even a golden mushroom can save you
I honestly don't mind seeing this combo but I'd it wasn't for you casual player's mario kart 8 deluxe would still A not be rebalinced and B the lightning would still be deadly but nope you guys have to nuf us pro player's so thanks

Neutral drifting is really important on 200cc, keep that in mind.
Its also essential in top play for blue outruns for example
rTT 200 (Toads Turnpike) uses a lot of neutral drifting for example
Yeah that’s why when in 200cc you should hold B while drifting (not the whole time) to help you control it better and not fall of cliffs

Snaking, for those who seen enough wrs you know exactly what I’m yapping about, now this depends on your mini turbo stat but if done precisely snaking is much faster than just driving in a straight line in fact this is the technique that helps the slowest combo being able to keep up with the fastest combo in the game, so it’s simple right, nope you need a relatively wide road for this, but if the road is not right enough than you can do a combination of counter hopping and snaking, how to do snaking, charge a mini turbo but not orange nor purple, only blue charge it up till it gets to blue and keep doing but don’t keep doing this cause eventually you’ll into the off-road… oh wait there is 1 more technique I forgot and that is
Extra technique he not include: hopping, not just hopping but (alignment hops) now this is actually one of the 3 main reasons why pro players hop so much, let me tell you right now hopping is just as important as soft drifting unlike drifting hopping instantly turns your kart a lot, here’s where alignment hops can save your life from you quitting the game forever and getting a new life, whenever you turned too sharply you can just hop to instantly align you back, if you don’t already do this then make a halt to do this, every Time you drift after that drift ends always do a hop, I’m not even joking doing this 1 simple trick can instantly improve your driving skills, so now that you learned all drifting techniques you need to know from the video and me he didn’t put in the video you think you’re going to have to unlearn your drifting habits and my friend you are correct, now this may seem hard but master soft driving and alignment hops and all the other techniques and glider techniques will change the way you play this game forever…
Now I just want to say that becoming a pro takes time because you have to master all the important stuff, why learn this thought? Well what happens is that slowly one by one people online will easily be passing and from my experscience that’s bad because when you get passed that more likely means you are going to get into last place and start bagging to take off your items to dodge the shake Take advantage of your speed stat to use the speed items to make a comeback and steal first place and have no more friends congratulations

You’ve turned to the matrix! Why are you using walu wiggler 😭
The lack of visuals makes everything you’re saying sound like a blur
How to out run a blue shell:
1. Get 10 coins
2. Use natural drift this absolutely essential and what I found interesting is the fact that it’s faster than moving while drifting
3. Choose a high speed combo, uh here’s a high speed combo for you guys, ( Dk + cat cruiser + those red tires (not rollers nor azure rollers forgot what they were called and uh choose paper glider yeah)
4. Play on 200cc, let me tell you out running a blue shell is impossible on 150cc, not even a golden mushroom can save you
Shortcat
Seeing this combo makes my eyes bleed

Thought the stuff in this video was commen sense
Bull... shit. It's a bit complicated.
What are you actually saying near the start of your videos. You say something in every single video but I never have a clue what it is
700th liker
Drifting in this game SUCKS.
You talk waaay too fast for me to comprehend what you're saying as a beginner/intermediate player
So sad that now even a casual game has some stupid "Meta"
Why is it sad? I think it's pretty cool!
Mario kart games have had a meta for years 💀
I’m quite good at this game
Idk, just my opinion. But if you're going to upload "helpful videos" I'd recommend you show others who may not know what you are talking about. Example, at least put your controller 🎮 on screen like u did for a literal second on this one. That way people who aren't as advanced might be able to understand and want to continue to watch it stuff or possibly subscribe. Again, Just my opinion tho
Thanks for intending to help people, but you're nearly impossible to understand when I can't see what you're talking about. Oh. and if you're reading this, have a great day.
