An inside drift build that I’ve been seeing more and more is: Rosalina, Comet, GLA Tires, and Cloud Glider… From what I know, this is b/c mini turbo isn’t as critical for inside drift. It’s still the most important stat, but others are still very important, so it isn’t as wise to fully min max. Something that people might not know is that for inside drift, driving lines > mini turbos. If you give up a perfect line to get an ultra, that would be considered a mistake. Compared to the Yoshi meta build, you loose some mini turbo and acceleration in exchange for: significantly more speed, slightly more traction, and over double the weight and invincibility. That being said, the mini turbo stat is still very high and you will be getting ultras left and right. Same thing with acceleration, it’s still very good.
I like what they did with bagging. I think it is a legit strategy that should stay viable and I enjoy doing it myself sometimes, however they were right to nerf it because before it felt like you could do it mindlessly. Making it harder to chain a lot of power items should make bagging a bit more skillful
I actually still want bagging to be viable, I just want it to be much more strategic and the fact that now there is no guarentee to get a bullet or something it turns bagging into something you do only when you get commode, which is how I feel it should be
Great Video JPG! Even though the Cat Cruiser has more invincibility than the Teddy Buggy in the most recent patch, I would still agree that Yoshi on the Teddy Buggy is the way to go!
I dont know why the popular opinion is anti-bagging. I think bagging provides a well needed variety to gameplay instead of front running every race which might as well be time trials. I like the skill ceiling of maximizing every power item you do or don't get. Even in 12th place it's good fun to blast through the course at speeds otherwise not possible and I think it's a good thing to allow players the choice to play in this way if they want to.
Casuals who never touch this game in lounge or high VR are extremely misinformed on what bagging actually is yet circlejerk each other. The change doesn't really matter either way, bagging will ALWAYS be secondary/a Plan B to running. Except on a select few tracks.
Tanooki Mario, Inkling Boy, and Villager Male are actually BETTER than Yoshi, Peach, Peachette, Daisy, and Birdo. Also, the Cat Cruiser is better than the Teddy Buggy. The thing is, traction stat is actually divided into two separate stats in the game: On-Road Traction and Off-Road Traction. Tanooki Mario, Inking Boy and Villager Male all have 7 On-Road Traction and 1 Off-Road Traction while Yoshi, Peach, Peachette, Daisy, and Birdo all have only 3 On-Road Traction and 3 Off-Road Traction. So While the Yoshi class has slightly better Off-Road Traction, the Tanooki Mario class has significantly better On-Road Traction and also has a better weight stat. As for the Cat Cruiser, it has all the same stats as the Teddy Buggy except for Invincibility Frames, which the Cat Cruiser has a stat of three vs the Teddy Buggy's 1. This means that the Cat Cruiser is objectively better. That being said, the only reason why almost everyone uses the Yoshi stat class, specifically Yoshi himself, with the Teddy Buggy is because it's what all the RUclipsrs say to use.
Sandbagging isn't necessarily bad, but when you have to go through the row of item boxes multiple times just to get power items and essentially stall the race, that's where I have a problem. You can sandbag, but you also have to race at the same time, and with what Nintendo has implemented in the latest patch, I think that will encourage drivers to not ultra sandbag. The only way to get rid of sandbagging is if you only make maps that are frontrunning maps, make the items less powerful, or you incentivize drivers to front run the race, like rewarding points each lap. I also think each vehicle should have its strengths and weaknesses. Have different classes of vehicles. I know they tried doing this in MKWii, but I think having something like inside drift with not a lot of straightaway speed would be a good balance. Inside drift can be viable on curvy tracks, but not on tracks with a lot of straights. A kart with its speed will have an advantage with straighter maps, but takes corners wider. That's probably how Nintendo should have handled MKWii in the first place, but I digress. Mario Kart typically sees 1, maybe 2 combos really dominate the meta, but I think it should be more than that, given how many vehicle combinations there are.
Thanks JPG! Are you going to address the slight meta change between Cat cruiser and Teddy buggy? Cat got a slight buff to invincibility. But teddy still “feels” way better.
If you are playing online, PLEASE just choose a combo you think looks cool or with your favourite character instead of the meta. Unless your combo is literally the worst one (or the second worst one) you will still be able to get first fairly often, if you are skilled. And if you are lacking that skill, playing the meta won’t change that. While in competitive tournaments, the meta does matter, in your average online match, you probably won’t go up against professionals. By not playing the meta online, you can help get more variety into lobbies, making the races more fun for everyone. And even if you *must* play meta, just don’t go Yoshi + Teddy Buggy, but maybe Birdo + Cat Cruiser. Still the same stats!
The vehicles aren't the issues, the lag trailing, shells doing absolutely nothing to others, and the unpredictable item boxes are annoying. I don't know how anyone enjoys worldwide. You literally get hit by 5 items which you don't even see on your screen most of the time.
I love how yoshi teddy bear is the best but there are still so many combos which are viable (I still wish Diddy Kong was added to one of the best classes like maybe he could have had Kamek stats but instead he's just Yoshi but with less speed but he's so cool so I don't care if he's not the best) my favorite vehicle is the City Tripper lol it's really cool
I think due to the slight mini turbo difference of the ink-striker and teddy buggy, the ink-striker should be the better combo due to its higher speed.
@@Just-Yosh1this is not a real thing. There’s never been any evidence to suggest atvs and Karts handle differently outside of the inconsistencies of the mushroom wheelie that atvs can have
Hot take, but I actually liked the old meta better then the new one. I am the kind of person that likes a combo to look good. Not saying that Waluigi wiggler was easy to look at, but it was at least a bit funny. Waluigi being probably the most meme character on the roster and him riding around on a wiggler had some comedic value. Yoshi teddybugy just don't look that great and has nothing else going for it. I know I will have to use it eventually when I hit a high enough VR were that extra stat boost is critical, but I do wish we got something else.
I’ve been a yoshi main since I started playing the game (about 5 years ago now, damn) and it’s really nice to see my boy finally getting some recognition
It's pretty good that Nintendo chose to make the Middle-Weights the best, because that means Heavys and Light Chars are more viable in comparison. Back then when the Heavys dominated Mario Kart 8, Middleweights were okay and Lightweights were trash. So it's in the middle of those 3
Yep! I'm already getting tired of seeing Yoshi everywhere I'm starting to miss Waluigi. Or even better, Make Funky Kong the new meta so we have Mario Kart Wii on the Switch!
The meta is cool in all but when comes to characters I don't use Yoshi. Why? Because he's not my cup of tea and I rather go as the characters I'm comfortable with like Metal Mario. But when it comes to the karts, I stick with meta.

@@Mike-AlThe only issue I have with it is literally some tracks are win or lose based on bagging. Even without a shock on a track like Cheese-land no matter how big your lead is you still manage to fall behind. I feel like the distance based items should cap at a certain distance so people aren’t intentionally slowing down. The only issue with that is everyone is so close together than 1 blue shell can easily ruin your race. In a perfect world better driving would mean better results but currently even with the bagging nerf some tracks will never escape that.
why do all players of nintendo games just only try to get the best stuff and look for the best this and that, its just all competitive competition. Its like nobody plays for fun
Giving my opinion here. Almost any combo can be good or even great but, for me, the best combo in the moment for 150cc is no doubth Yoshi, Teddy Buggy/Cat Cruiser, Roller Tires and Cloud Glider/Paper Glider and for 200cc since you dont want Speed but rather Mini-Turbo, Acceleration and Handling, the best combo Is Dry-Bone(r), Mr. Scooty, Roller Tires and Cloud/Paper Glider. The 200cc one has almost the same Accel, Handling AND Mini-Turbo as the combos with the best respective stats whitch is INSANE cause is almost like 3 max stats that are also the exact stats you want! Plus it gets a bonus cause yk, Dry-Bone(r) supremacy
I would say that Tanooki Mario/Inkling Boy/Male Villager + pipe frame is the best combo. It has the same ground speed, weight, and mini-turbo as Yoshi + Teddy Buggy but is superior in terms of almost every other stat. The only stats where Yoshi + Teddy buggy exceeds it are air speed, anti-gravity speed, air handling, and traction. Air speed and air handling aren't super important since you don't do a lot of gliding on most tracks. The importance of anti-gravity speed depends very heavily on the track, but I believe the majority of tracks don't have huge amounts of anti-gravity. And traction is by far the least important stat IMO since it has literally no effect except on off-road.
I layed down in bed to chill for a bit. Pulled up youtube and saw this. Imediatly got out of bed to try a yoshi build out lmao. I was rockin waluigi up until now. My brother and his wife got me into this recently, so im still new to all of these BIG changes since mario kart 64 haha. Apreciate the video brother
for a brief period the best combo was mario with standard kart, gla tires and standard glider and i kinda wish it was still like that cause it was the funniest shit to beat everyone online with the most basic set. But as a Yoshi main i'm also happy that he's now meta material
I think Peach and Daisy are better than Yoshi despite them having the same stats because since their heads are smaller it would be easier to see items. That's why Waluigi was better than DK or Roy.
Until i die, I will only use Wiggler on the Wiggler. With also the added bonus of if their is a wiggler on the track, you instantly get a good placing.
The meta won’t stop me from using what I like. To me being good at a game means using what you’re comfortable with to win. If you play a game but you only do what other people do because it’s most effective, then are you really playing the game?
That's right. Rosalina Teddybuggy/Cat-cruiser is comfortable for me to win/survive. Yoshi Teddybuggy/Cat-cruiser sucks and is a good option to lose for me.
the gameplay matters more than the affects of your character to most people. If you concern yourself with aesthetics and can’t adapt to how the game is at a base level then you’re not really that into the game. It’s fine to play a game for reasons other than just winning but I find a lot of people get disillusioned with a game because they aren’t honest with their intentions. If someone wants to play a game to win in a way they find fun then that’s ok but you should fully acknowledge that you aren’t playing to win.
Most of the time I also use builds I like so I also throw in pieces like the land ship, Koopa clown, city tripper, Mach 8, silver arrow, sponge tires, and leaf tires on top of all the meta build and still find success online weather that’s worldwide or sometimes even in competitive
I'd argue that Rosalina's weight class (Rosalina, Pauline, King Boo, Link) is better than all the midweights (including Yoshi's class) for certain maps with less tight turns and more boost panels, and it's also better for bagging. You lose 0.5 miniturbo to get an equivalent amount of extra speed. You also lose 0.5 acceleration but it's not very important and it's kinda compensated by that +0.75 invincibility (that reduces your chance of being Mario Karted). Worse handling by 0.5, but if you're a good driver you will barely feel the difference, also you have that +0.75 weight to push your opponents and to prevent them from messing up your lines (since most players use midweights). Overall, I think Rosalina's weight class requires more skill but it can definitely keep up with the midweights, if not even be better in the situations I previously described. Other than that, I think your video was well done and gave a great overview. As for bagging, I'm personally happy with the state it's in now and don't think it needs another nerf. Before the changes, bagging was already a strategy that required more skill than frontrunning (generally). Now the skill floor has been increased (and this will be felt especially at a not particularly competitive level), but it can certainly give exceptional results if you know what you are doing. I think frontrunning and bagging are both two valid strategies... and they actually complement each other since to really get the best results you have to be able to adopt one or the other strategy depending on the map and situation you find yourself in, and quickly switch between one and the other if necessary.
I use Shy guy/Dry Bones (Alternating) With rollers, Cloud, and either Mr. Scooty or Biddybuggy. Pretty good speed, amazing acceleration, and amazing Mini Turbo. I do sometimes use Yoshi Teddy though
Really solid video. On bagging, I'm definitely biased since i main speed combos, but I think its important that it stays around. As great as front running is in lining up with the core gameplay and skill, it results in less interactive and strategic gameplay, as the more breakaways that occur the easier it is to just run time trial racing lines. I'm of the mindset that time trial already exists to emphasize peak lines, while multiplayer should incentivize and reward more interaction and item usage. The bagging change, while it does nerf camping a set to cycle for stronger power items, does not invalidate its usage, but adds a significant element of risk and opportunity cost in choosing to bag. Previously, whenever I'm stuck in the middle of the pack, it would be in my best interest to drop back to 9th, because even if it took cycling 3+ items, I could almost always guarantee a dodge item or shock to immediately jump back in. The nerf however makes this a calculated higher risk higher reward scenario, as you could just get stuck with mushrooms or blueshell and not be able to catch up. I think the bagging change is amazing. Actually, my biggest gripe with the balance was decreasing the respawn timer on boxes even lower. It should either be longer, or instant. As it is right now, there isn't much strategy in guaranteeing a box as you almost always can get one, even following another players line, as they respawn too quickly. Coming from MKWii there is a lot of skill and mindgames attached with targeting and stealing certain item sets to prevent others from catching up to you. The respawn timer being so short decreases the value of going for more out of the way or riskier item boxes, but not being instant just results in feelsbad moments where you feel like you should have gotten them still.
I’ve never had any doubt in my mind that Yoshi Teddy Buggy is the king of the meta. I’ve just enjoyed using Medium Mii Teddy Buggy Rollers so much since the Wave 4 balance patch that I never stopped using him and I’ve performed just as well. I’m fully aware that I’m not on the best combo but I’m fully satisfied with Medium Mii. He’s been the most enjoyable to use for me so I can’t complain 👍🏽
You really aren't losing much, it's VERY slight differences since you're still using the meta build, just with a teeny bit less MT and a bit more speed.
@@lunchtreyy Exactly. The differences are so slight it’s not even noticeable. It’s basically a hybrid of Yoshi Inkstriker. Only difference is more handling, more air speed and slightly less antigravity speed

If you go online there's a lot more of variety and it's much more fun to watch. I think I will stick to using characters I like which are Funky Kong and miis
It's a real shame that at the end they kept lightweight characters as mediocre. Absolutely no reason to use them. I just want to play ma' boy Toad without feeling I'm unnecessarily hindering myself :'(
I play Luigi and while I’ve always wanted to use good kart combos I hate the silly looking ones. Hearing that the pipe frame is viable makes me really wanna use Luigi, pipe frame, GLA tires, parachute
I was surprised that they did no nerf to roller or the teddy buggy with the final wave, i know there will always be a meta and best build but i think they could have balanced it better, maybe they were too scared to create something like the Waluigi wiggler meta again by buffing something
It annoys me beyond belief that there's a meta in Mario Kart, why are there so many vehicles to choose from yet we can only use 2 or 3 combos in order to perform perfectly? Seriously makes me mad
I have no joke, it’s 1 of my favorites on MKTV, beaten two 55,000+ vr players on Sidney Sprint with Luigi, Flame rider, Crimson slim, and Gold glider. Lol! It doesn’t matter what kart you use. It’s online, you just have to be good enough to use it, and you CAN WIN. BTW I did this at less than 5,000 vr.😂😂😂
Mario kart is a game of variance. You have beaten them twice but they’d probably wipe the floor with you the next 500 times until you get lucky again. It’s definitively true that people focus on the combos way too much as opposed to their skill but stats have a real impact on the race.
But what if... I like to use the Shy Man? About bagging, I'm mixed about it, I like bagging when I'm hit so I can do a quick recover but with the nerf, now it's harder to pull that off, however I won't lie and say bagging isn't toxic, cuz it is and any way to stop people from not playing the game during the first 30 seconds is good, now it's riskier
I think bagging might be my least favorite part about the game and I wish it was gone. It's nice Nintendo at least tried to get rid of it, even if it failed

4:20 what
wow
I, never seen you being so agressive without being agressive 💀
That being said, the only reason why almost everyone uses the Yoshi stat class, specifically Yoshi himself, with the Teddy Buggy is because it's what all the RUclipsrs say to use.
erm actually the cat cruiser has more invincibility than teddy (teddy is still better because idk)
It’s better because smaller hitbox
Teddy is better cuz of smaller hitbox and I frames are irrelevant
Could you maybe do a video going over the most meta relevant combo for each character?
THISSSS ^
@@benjaymean58 this isn't. He made only for the medium weight class.
It’s going to be one of these combos mentioned in this video for any character anyway so I don’t see the point of a video like that
My combo is Kamek, Streetle, Rollers and Cloud.

“If you wanna win, only use this specific combo” don’t care, Funky Gang rise up
If you are playing online, PLEASE just choose a combo you think looks cool or with your favourite character instead of the meta.
Gecko still wins in competitive Mario kart tournaments with non-meta characters.
he plays mario kart but with a twist 🗿 @@WillaRDash04
The vehicles aren't the issues, the lag trailing, shells doing absolutely nothing to others, and the unpredictable item boxes are annoying. I don't know how anyone enjoys worldwide. You literally get hit by 5 items which you don't even see on your screen most of the time.
Funky Gang rise up
@@KoopaTroopaBeachFan4879 what I mentioned was not just a twist. It were some road to ruby 2 videos.
Pro Tip: If you play black yoshi you get an extra speed boost
Note cat cruiser does have more invincibility then teddy buggy
But Teddybuggy has smaller hitbox
I think due to the slight mini turbo difference of the ink-striker and teddy buggy, the ink-striker should be the better combo due to its higher speed.
It is indeed slightly better but requires more skill to master.
Although it has 0.25 more speed. It has 0.25 less mini turbo along with less acceleration
Not to forget inkstriker is an atv so it can take as clean lines as the teddybuggy can

I'm gonna get hated for what I'll say, but I preferred when the meta was Waluigi. Why? It's simple: he finally had the Justice he never got.
I kinda hate how out of the thousands of combinations, only ONE of them is actually worth using lol. That's called horrible game balance
Weight IS online definitly better so Villager>Yoshi also Cat cruiser got better than teddybuggy cause of extra invincibility
It's pretty good that Nintendo chose to make the Middle-Weights the best, because that means Heavys and Light Chars are more viable in comparison. Back then when the Heavys dominated Mario Kart 8, Middleweights were okay and Lightweights were trash. So it's in the middle of those 3
It would be nice if you'll do some videos where you find the best combonation for non-meta characters
Yep! I'm already getting tired of seeing Yoshi everywhere
I'm starting to miss Waluigi.
In my opinion, I think that the game with bagging and front running was as fine as it was!
The change doesn't really matter either way, bagging will ALWAYS be secondary/a Plan B to running. Except on a select few tracks. Casuals who never touch this game in lounge or high VR are extremely misinformed on what bagging actually is
@@Mike-AlThe only issue I have with it is literally some tracks are win or lose based on bagging.
No, play the game as an actual racing game.

Funky Gang!
why do all players of nintendo games just only try to get the best stuff and look for the best this and that, its just all competitive competition. Its like nobody plays for fun
Toshiba teddy buggy is not meta, Toshiba cat cruiser is same but invis is higher
I never knew that Yoshi Bike and Comet also had the same stats as Teddybuggy, so thanks for giving us inside drift mains some love.
F that I’m playing as funky Kong and you can’t stop me
I layed down in bed to chill for a bit.
That was a meme combo. It was still worse than the teddy buggy and inkstrike combos but it was at least viable.
2:55 doesn’t Teddy buggy have a worse invincibility stat compared to cat cruiser after the patch?
“Teddy Buggy and Inkstriker have had their Invincibility statistic decreased by a value of 0.50 (2 points).”
You forgot that the Meta in Wii U Mario Kart 8 was Morton, Blue Falcon, Cuber Slick, Gold Glider
I'm a Yoshi main, purely for aesthetics. This is welcome news.
@breadandcircuses8127 CUTE
D I N O S A U R
You should do a “evolution of the Mario Kart Meta” video
If someone wants to play a game to win in a way they find fun then that’s ok but you should fully acknowledge that you aren’t playing to win.
they pretty much abandoned the lightweights 😢
It truly is a shame. I'll miss the baby Time Trial metas.
Yeah every DLC character has been medium or heavy
I’ll ALWAYS hold a grudge for them to not bring back Dino Dino jungle
It is my fav track of all time
I miss waluigi wiggler, speed traction, mini turbo, smaller hit box and waluigi my favorite character
The cat cruiser is actually the best because it has more invincibility than teddy
Very happy to see this. It's great to know the meta! Even if I won't follow it cause I don't really play online anyway.
I love that my love of yoshi got me so close to the optimal load out lol
As an all time Yoshi main, I miss the all Waluigi meta I hated so much.
I sometimes use speed combos too, I use king boo streetle slicks
4:12-4:24 LMAOOOOOOOOO YOU CALLED THEM OUT 🤣🤣🤣
3:53 very smooth transition

Seeing 2024 in the thumbnail gives me chills, can’t believe this game is already over 6 years old

Funky Gang!
It's true he should. Not everyone's favorite character is in the medium weight class. Heavyweights and lightweights must be viable as well.
I noticed that in the intro he used Morton on the standard bike which was considered the best before 2019 when everyone switched to waluwiggler

@@Snsy Yes but that is a almost irrelevant stat
They can only nerf invincibility because any other stat changes like speed or mt will make some time trial wr unbeatable
It annoys me beyond belief that there's a meta in Mario Kart, why are there so many vehicles to choose from yet we can only use 2 or 3 combos in order to perform perfectly? Seriously makes me mad
Unless you go pro, none of this matters anyway.
One of them was 80,000+ vr as well
4:26 but hats the problem I like using Isabelle, City tripper, GLA wheels and paper glider
I've tried making diddy viable and he's fun but his weight stat is so atrocious online that im gonna return to my Kamek teddy buggy combo
I hope this works, getting 3 stars on every Grand Prix drove me (no pun attended) to using smart steering
That transition at 3:54 goes CRAZY
