Graeme, Just wanted to congratulate on over 100 K subs. I did message before but lost amongst the masses. Its important for me that you know just how much this channel has done for me since i started fishing 12 months ago. Watch your vids every night at work. I fish every day, work or not, and its thanks to you that im learning the skills and have the inspiration that i do. I wish you and Mike nothing but the best as nobody deserves it more. Incredible channel. Nobody can touch you. Steve in Fife.
I loved this no frills video. I want to fly fish for carp on one of the club lakes I fish, which is known for great fishing off the top. Many thanks for the tips.
Just to say this is my favourite way to fish for carp, just to say I've noticed hardly ever any mouth damage to the fish caused by this type of fishing compared to 'typical' methods of fishing for them, remember always check the tippet line for damage & hook sharpness after every fish....
as long as hooks are the right type of hook and size of hook barbless. and the angler is careful with the unhooking. the fish should always be fine. the problem is careless young anglers more than the tackle iself
I've been watching your videos for years you inspired me years ago to start surface fishing for carp with bread I even commented on the video asking questions you answered within minutes still to this day it is my favourite type of fishing! I'd love to meet you guys would be a great experience!
Very enjoyable today Graeme. I really like that you dont falsely hype up your vids. So natural makes it easier to learn from you. Best as always, Steve in Fife.
Interesting that you advise such a short leader. I've watched a lot of carp fly fishing videos and they all recommended at least 9ft tapered leaders and longer because they are so spooky.
I've found a specific carp top feeding mono ie korda surface control increases strikes. The carp fisherie I go to they are extremely shy and can be very frustrating to catch
I bet you wont use a spinning outfit again to fish for carp. I love to fish for carp using flyfishing outfit. My fly reel of choice is a orvis rocky mountain the regular version (magnificent drag noise) and fly rod of #4 Fly rod. I started tying deer hair flies to imitate the dog food years ago. But I wont event bother with tying deer hair these days. I cut a piece of foam from a cheap flipflop shaped near the dog food size. It stay on the surface for ever and i dont have to dry the flies constantly. I learned this from my carpping buddy. Color doesnt even matter. They are not seem to be bothered by the color except a Koy. Koy seems to be pickier than the commun carps. Graeme, what i would like to see is if you can take crusians on top water with flies. That is a more interesting challenge.
I think I said in the film, the ones I was using were 30/40 years old.I have used them for trout and bonefish. If I am still catching fish with them why change ? I won't catch any more with new gear.Maybe a lighter reel would be easier on the creaking bones though.
I completely understand where you are coming from, I feel the same I haven't changed my fly rod in 10 years because I enjoy it so much. and I agree that I may need a lighter reel as well haha.
hiya can i just say that was yet another awesome vid well done and i like to carp fish and i dont like the whole bivvy set up sit and wait i like to be mobile but i have never fly fished before and was wondering what fly rod would cope with a carp thank you again love your vids
About a 7/8 rated flyrod. Maybe a forward taper floating line if you are starting flyfishing as it will help carry the fly out easier than say,a double tapered line. You are bound to miss a few on the strike until you get used to it,but there are plenty of fly guys out there who nail incredible sizes on a flyrod. I think the World record is a Grass Carp over 60lbs from America, and a 42 pounder from,I recall,Italy. Also heard of a fly angler who got 20 x 20's in one season with fish over 30 !! and that's in the UK..That must be an awesome sight.Trout anglers are also moving over to Carp on fly.
I think the average is 7/8 weights, but an 8/9 would be better as Carp dig deep when they come in close. Trout tend to be more feisty towards the surface.
@@TAFishing thanks for your reply. I’m in the middle of building a dedicated fixed spool freeline rod from a 5wt blank for fishing a local pond full of small mirrors and commons.
Don't put floatant on the tippet, not for carp and certainly not for trout. A sunken tippet is what you're after because a sunken line is harder to see for the fish than a floating line. Floating tippet looks like a huge cable on the surface. That's why fly fisherman put river mud on the tippet to remove the glance and to sink it. Other than that very entertaining as always.
Hi guys. Great video. I would love to have a go at this fly fishing for carp now. What line and leader would you suggest? I have a 9 weight rod that was given to me a few years ago. And what terminal tackle would you suggest Tight lines guys and keep the videos coming.
Double figure tailing Bonefish on the fly, twenty feet from the skiff, or Barbel fishing wading in streamer weed running float through the gaps, Or a 500lb Blue marlin shouldering water as it crashes on a fast trolled Laminar flow lure, Or a double figure Pike that explodes on your lure just as you are about to lift it from the water, Or a float near lily pads sliding away as a Tench moves off with my worm bait....I love it all. That's why I always do all-round angling.Change with the seasons, and keep myself fresh. Could no way lock in to one species alone,it would become a bit boring.
hi graeme another great video. i have just baught my first fly set up for carp and was wondering if you could recommend a good supplier for hedgehog flies?
Hi fellas does anyone know of any good fishing and camping venues just out of London? Preferably with a good few carp lakes ? Please get back to me would be great help, looking to get out this weekend for a 2night Pitch and fish
Lots of fisheries ban floating baits if they have lots of waterfowl, but I wonder if its also because surface fishing can be extremely deadly....and of course you can just buy a box of dog biscuits from a supermarket to chum them up on the surface.Cheap fishing, cheap bait,a few flies, barely any tackle to lug around,(sell the wheelbarrow !!) and ultimate mobility so you can cover a lot of ground.I love it myself. And there are a lot of anglers who love the challenge of Carp on fly.
No floating baits, but you can fly fish ??????? hypocritical water owners with double standards are every where now in the UK....Good vid guys;] rant over
Its our pleasure and glad you enjoy it.Even if there is one tip alone in the films it could be the vital one that helps you get a hookup. And of course don't be afraid to experiment.
Did you actually knew that in my part of Switzerland ground bait and any form of loose feed, even a feeder is forbidden. And still we catch just as much fish as you do. So why waist money and time to loose feed?

That casting and retrieval on the reel 😂 Jesus Christ
I really enjoy that episode. Just fun.
well done Graeme, you can't beat a free lined bait for fishing on top, never considered a fly rod to do it though 😂
Great video as usual. Beautiful fish on the fly and much more fun than sitting waiting for the bite alarms to go

Thanks for the video Graeme. Watched half of it but getting to carp overload now.
To stop the "rod tip break" when the fish is close, I suggest a longer net in the margin to relieve the acute bend in the tip. 👍🏻
You seem a genuinely nice guy and its a pleasure to watch any video on your channel, thanks for the videos guys! Peace.
Nice fish greame your channel is such a insperation to me and old school tricks always work keep up the good work
Very enjoyable today Graeme. I really like that you dont falsely hype up your vids. So natural makes it easier to learn from you.
Best as always,

Just getting back into fly fishing and now I want to target carp!
Just make sure you don't snap your fly rod when you pull back to net them...its easily done.
Great show and nice Carp.
Interesting that you advise such a short leader. I've watched a lot of carp fly fishing videos and they all recommended at least 9ft tapered leaders and longer because they are so spooky.
BEST FISHING SHOW EVER! thx for the vids please keep it up I really enjoy them.
Great show as usual. There may be an explosion of bivvies, beds, bite detectors etc. on ebay so get your stuff on quick!
I've done a fair bit of this...it's a magical way to fish
great tips as usual
Really good vid grame I'd like to thank you and Mike for your great videos as the have reall helped me douring competions so keep up the good work
I've found a specific carp top feeding mono ie korda surface control increases strikes. The carp fisherie I go to they are extremely shy and can be very frustrating to catch
Yes ive been waiting for a video like this well done lads
Always great vids u do make me laugh especially when u fell in the river after the Chubb 😂😂😂🙈🙈great content on this vid 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Another great video keep up the great work
great video definately going to try this
Groundbaiting and using a fly rod are mutually exclusive. Get your fixed spool out and crack on

That's a nice mirror carp
Awesome video guys! 🤘have you any plans todo some more beach fishing vids anytime soon?
What biscuits do you use Graham? I use to use 'chum mixer' but I think they've changed their recipe and once sodden they sink!
nice one,cheers Graham!
Tafishing you should come fishing at float fish farm horseshoe lake I went yesterday I caught some carp, barbel and tench in Peterborough
What is the brand or name of that pink fly line you're using?
No idea.Someone gave it to me. Secondhand when I got it.
this channel is amazing
do you use newer age tackle or still stay true to your older rods, reels, and flies?
I think I said in the film, the ones I was using were 30/40 years old.I have used them for trout and bonefish. If I am still catching fish with them why change ? I won't catch any more with new gear.Maybe a lighter reel would be easier on the creaking bones though.

Alright Graeme, you've convinced me. Gonna try to land a Carp in a Fly!
have you ever been to st ives camping and fishing down in Butcherfield Lane Hartfield East Sussex
No,never heard of the place.Only been to St Ives in Cornwall.
there are some decent sizes in there i've had a couple of teens and a 21 pounder out of there
and what recording equipment do you use
He helps me catch lots of fish
what weight rod are you using? 5 or 6? them are beautiful old rods, pure classics. I love your videos, so informative and easy going.
Probably 7/8 weights.
hiya can i just say that was yet another awesome vid well done and i like to carp fish and i dont like the whole bivvy set up sit and wait i like to be mobile but i have never fly fished before and was wondering what fly rod would cope with a carp thank you again love your vids

wow thank you for your help i have larned so much from you in course carp and sea fishing thank you
Great video. What are the weights of those fly rods?
I think the average is 7/8 weights, but an 8/9 would be better as Carp dig deep when they come in close. Trout tend to be more feisty towards the surface.

Tight lines guys and keep the videos coming.
would suggest bread flies. as far as line and leader .. well in my personal opinion that is the choice of the angler
What rated rod and length would you suggest for carp 5-10lbs
Never knew that you could fly fish for carp
Could u go on your boat again I miss them videos ? But also like these videos aswell ,thank you
hi whats your favorite fish to catch

hi graeme another great video.
i have just baught my first fly set up for carp and was wondering if you could recommend a good supplier for hedgehog flies?
Try Sid Knight who runs Dognobbler flies. He does tie various patterns including Hedgehog. He has a website.
TAFishing thanks
Nice video :)
What do you do with your left over magots
Freeze them down as feed or hook bait for a future trip.Good for barbless hook fishing as they can't wriggle off !!
They just turn into flys
could you put scotch guard on flies to make them repel water
No,but you could put water in Scotch whiskey and down it ...after 3 you won't even care if the fly floats or sinks.
Hahah you cheeky bugger you
Hi fellas does anyone know of any good fishing and camping venues just out of London? Preferably with a good few carp lakes ?

Totally fucking aswome

Yet again another brilliant video guys 👍🏻💯🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🐟💦💦💦😅
No floating baits, but you can fly fish ??????? hypocritical water owners with double standards are every where now in the UK....Good vid guys;] rant over

fish tend to be fished for more often in the uk in my opinion. good to coax them out if they are being rather shy
do new things
We have over 460 films up ?? Have a look through the playlist.
i wonder if the lad was even finished typing before sending that comment
