Great video, don't know how I missed it. Andy holding the line, keeping pressure on the fish and winding the spare line back onto the reel was proper big fish fly fishing technique. Just get rid of the slack line between your hand and the rod on the cast and you'll be away. Slack line stops the rod loading up so the line doesn't get thrown out.
Video idea for you, back to the river Don, this time a 1 on 1 fly fishing match for Grayling - happy to even give them some coaching to set them in the right direction before they face off. Great vid! Can’t not love their enthusiasm.

Lol amazing seeing this as my 10 y/o son has been well into his fly rod this year. When he's bored practicing shalla fishing for his matches or if we have a couple of hours after school he breaks it out and has a giggle catching carp and F1s on our local snake lake. (it is amazing fun, though he tends to roll cast or double spey cast rather than full on fluff chucking :-D
You need a fighting butt for the rod. Also need to keep the main line straight. I been fly fishing for carp for years it's the best summer fun you can have. Good luck getting the big one my PB 18lb spent 30 plus minutes getting in.🎣
Hi guys only just found your channel, I loved this video when you say you are going to get a fly rod and do it again I completely get it. I am a fly fisherman and in the summer I loved to target the carp on the fly but sadly where I live in Leeds people with fly rods tend to get frowned upon do you guys know of any fisheries that allow fly rod . Brilliant been a fluff chucker for 40+ years Andy just needs to work on his lift off and the forward cast will take care of its self looking forward to the next video beetle and hopper patterns work well for carp

Like I said if they allow mugging with a pole they should allow me to use my fly rod....! It would be only fair due to mugging advantages to TALL people, Lighter expensive poles etc. Bait should be hair rigged 6 or 8 mil pellet or pellet fly. Andy the teacher needs to buy a course of lessons.

The best thing to do (if you are a retired old bugger like me) is fish club waters midweek. You can pretty much do whatever you want then!
