- While shooting sci-fi short "New Air" (over only 4 days, with 3 props, 2 actors all on 1 LED stage), we kept saying our filmmaking process looked as much like science fiction as our actual film.
In this video, we take in-depth look at how we made the film from script to screen in interviews with our key cast and crew, featuring the film's Director, Producer, DOP, Head of R&D, Lead Actress, Virtual Production Designer, and our Sound/Score Supervisor.
What was it like producing the entire film with Virtual Production?
What was different about our production pipeline? And why?
Key moments:
1:20 - 1:42 Our cinematographer's perspective on working with Virtual Production
2:11 - 2:46 What kind of R&D was needed?
3:38 - 3:50 What was it like as an actor inside the LED volume?
4:07 - 4:26 How does Virtual Production change post-production?
4:30 - 5:08 What changes for the Sound Department?
5:10 - 6:00 Utilizing Previz as a data iteration process
6:01 - 6:32 Our software and hardware

Huge thanks to everyone to helped make this film possible, including our amazing cast, crew, the Versatile R&D team, and also the technologies that have enabled us to create the Versatile Virtual Production system, especially our friends at @NVIDIA and @UnrealEngine

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!
Really couldn‘t tell this was filmed in front of an LED. Great job guys!
I had to rewatch this a couple times to read the captions and see the footage as well, but well worth it. Great stuff!
Congratulations guys! Great film
I am blown away by this! This opens a door to a whole new world!
I'm a layman and this is pretty amazing. The cost savings making sets or transporting cast and crew to a location must be insane.
Being able to see footage during ADR...that's amazing
This is a goodlooking crew! The visuals in this movie are also incredible
I'm looking forward to seeing the new LED stage you are building in Vancouver BC
great in-depth. keep it up!
Amazing stuff!
You guys have clearly thought this technology and its implications through. Well done.
what an amazing work!
Proud of this team!
Very fancy set-up and a lot of great practical work
Great points, please share more about all your projects
That's awesome
This is a fantastic team
Look forward to the sequel
Awesome!
This is definitely the most innovative use case of virtual production I've seen so far. Great job
Really interesting use of previz. Makes a lot of sense to inherit data from previz
Thank you Kathy! It really is so beneficial to the creative process, and also for production efficiency
WOW, This so Amazing....Peace
Sick 👍🏻
This is so well thought out. Really impressive. I wonder if the industry will adopt this as a whole?
We think it's inevitable. The benefits to filmmaking are tremendous
A question for the director and DOP: did you have to do previz in order to think through all your shots before shooting in the LED? Moving everything up from post means needing to have a must clearer vision earlier on.
This sort of thing is indistinguishable from witchcraft for me. I don’t understand how it works, I never will, but it’s amazing.
Have you guys made a full feature film this way yet?
Do you need to previz all your projects before LED shooting?
How long did it take to prepare all your assets?
Hi Leanna, it took us 10 days to prepare all the assets. We have a large asset library that we start with
Didn‘t realize the film came from a Chinese team
