This has been happening for a while. There was even a term in China referred to as "run" in order to escape the censors since the character itself means something separate in Mandarin but means obvious for us in English. I'm a korean student who's studied so hard to come to the us. Studying in korean and english just to meet the requirements, and then even more to make sure I got straight A's to be able to afford university via scholarships. Even then, because I haven't served yet, getting my visa to study wasn't even certain. One day, during break I had to ride a greyhound bus, and the guy who was sitting in my seat couldn't even speak english... Speaking Spanish to me, not even bothering to mix in simple english words to help me understand. That made me mad for the longest time... Watching this short eased my feelings a little bit. That boy who was about my age probably had a good reason to be on that bus too. Maybe he went through more than I did.

The problem is that they’re trying to claim asylum when you’re legally supposed to claim asylum in the first country you get to. That’s why they’re getting turned around because they had a few chances to claim asylum in the other countries they passed through and when you try to claim asylum in the United States you had have to came from your original country first not over the border.
International asylum law doesn’t require asylum seekers to apply for asylum in any country first in order to apply in a different country, it only permits applicants to be rejected if they’ve been given asylum in other countries. Also, you can’t just turn people away, you have to hear and reject their claims first. It’s the law.

I understand the dilemma, and my hearts go out to these peope but also the demand and amount of people trying to cross every year isn't going to change. In fact its going to increase. I'm a korean student who's studied so hard to come to the us. Studying in korean and english just to meet the requirements, and then even more to make sure I got straight A's to be able to afford university via scholarships. That’s why they’re getting turned around because they had a few chances to claim asylum in the other countries they passed through and when you try to claim asylum in the United States you had have to came from your original country first not over the border.
