My 17 TLX V6 started knocking in August. I was a week away from dropping 10K to get a new short block put in and just found out my car is a part of this recall
Luckily, worked out for you.
@alexanderkennedy2969 I know what I heard from my dealership. Thanks for being concerned but I got this.
@alexanderkennedy2969If it's a $25,000 car, it will need to be fixed and traded off.
@alexanderkennedy2969wrong new block tlx motor with labor is around 10
@alexanderkennedy2969 you spend your money how you want and I'll spend mine where and how I want.✌🏽
I think this might be a good news for someone from our church! A year or so ago, he told me that his 2017 Acura MDX started knocking and the vehicle had about 60k miles. I heard the noise too. He wrote an email to Acura Corp. telling them that car was well taken care of and asking them to diagnose it, cover the repair if need be. They of course declined saying that it is out of warranty. He had to pay for repair a few grand.
SMH, hopefully works out for them. Thanks for sharing and best of luck.
That is happening to me too.
That's why people buy newer cars, to get away from car issues. But it's better to buy older used cars in better shape.. I stay away from newer model cars.
Holding my old Toyota V6 even tighter now, 2GR-FE, bulletproof, old but issue free. Shame on Honda, famous V-TEC J35 V6 with bad quality parts….
Yeah it really does suck for everyone. Quality control has dipped lately.
absolutely frustrating......the car will never be the same once the take the engine apart to that extent. I sure hope they are going to warranty the vehicle for life after they do the heart transplant on some of these vehicle. if not, no more hondas for me. period!@@BCautosolutions
@@markbowker5936 why would they extend the warranty? Most of them are out of warranty to begin with 😅
@@BCautosolutions YEAH, PROBABLY SO. I HAVE A 2019 RIDGELNE WITH 11K ON IT. MAYBE I WILL JUST DRIVE IT TILL THE ENGINE BLOWS THEN TAKE IT TO HONDA AND LET THEM HONOR THE RECALL THEN.

@@Mabeylater293Stop Lying
Damn, this feels like something you’d see from Dodge or Ford, not Honda 🤨
This one disappointed me not going to lie. The J series has been ultra reliable with the exception of this situation and their injector failures. (Totally expected the injectors tho lol)
I have owned 6 different Honda's and two of them where v6 models. All my Honda's have had a recall at some point or another, but never in 25 years have I been broke down on the side of the road. If you do the Honda recommended maintenance and check with your dealership on recalls you should be golden. I cannot say the same for Dodge or Chevy, never owned a Ford.
@@sn4rl277 very solid point and maintenance goes a long way. We know this already tho.
@@sn4rl277 That is because you never owned other than Hondas hence your perception is strictly limited to Honda.
@@ahsanmalik1013 Nope, I currently own a Toyota, and have owned all but Ford and VW. Dodge was the worst, absolute worse. Toyota service folks are like snobs, if you don't own a Lexus you get looked down on as a customer at our local dealership. I wish I only owned Honda ever. Would have saved me a ton of money. There are other good manufactures, I just choose to go with what is reliable and do my homework on what engine, transmissions and all are on said vehicle when I buy it. That way when it his 150k or more I know it will still be reliable and I can choose to keep it or trade in for something newer or nicer.
My 2017 Acura MDX started having the same knocking the recalled cars are having and they told me my engine needed replacing. Acura notified me that my car was not included in the recall which is total BS. I have a feeling there are and will be many more stories like mine. ANYONE who has this issue go to NTSHA and report your issue so they can document as many as possible.
Was this pre or post recall? That means they have narrowed it down to a very specific part source or assembly place/person, etc. if it was affected on all of them then a lot more would be having the issue. They have pinpointed the source of the issue and checked/confirmed with all agencies involved behind these things.
Mine went one month before the recall was announced which was in October
@@tonyhoward9268 there’s no way they would have known if that’s the case. Once you can confirm by vin your car is in fact affected I would call American Honda and see what they can do for you 👍🏻

With all these Honda problems it's getting harder and harder to put my nose up in the air when I brag about how superior my Honda is. Especially when I'm stranded on the side of the road and have to accept a ride from an inferior and lowly Ford owner.
I hear ya
That’s funny I traded my 2020 passport for a 22 explorer ST. Honda had a more premium interior, handling and performance goes to the ford, ease of maintenance is similar, build quality Honda wins, reliability Honda wins but it’s closer than you think. Honda built a reputation decades ago for awesome bullet proof cars but in the last 10-15 years that changed. All of these technological advances and emissions issues really messed up the reliability and longevity of cars on the whole. Now a days I only expect 100k out of a motor or trans before replacing/ rebuilding.
If said Ford is giving you a ride because you are on the side of the road, then the Ford is the superior product 😂
@@GT-gt4bf 😅🤣
Better off with Lexus
I remember doing piston rings on a 2010 Acura tsx for oil consumption then the v6 had to same issues throw it the transmission problems from the early 2000s, Honda really dropped the ball. 👎
Yup we did them in accord/crv/odyssey/pilots
Thanks for sharing and any updates would be greatly appreciated! Weird 17 Pilot is not affected yet 17 Ridgeline & 17 MDX is. So how will this work? What if you don't have an issue and the VIn falls within the range?
Im not sure yet. There’s probably going to be an inspection, pass/fail will determine next step. If it comes in on a failed state then I would assume block replacement.
My friends have both a MDX and a TLX that are affected. They tell me that after receiving two letters from Honda, they are getting invitations to go into the dealership to test drive cars. The big question is what kind of a trade-in value can you get on a vehicle with a known defect in the engine or do they pretend the engine is 100%
jjust had my recall done for the crank bearing took a day, seems the vibration issue while cruising is gone now im happy.
Thanks for the feedback.
Haven’t heard any knocking but I went for oil service and was told my vehicle has been affected. Do I bother going forward or just hold up
It’s up to your but at some point they will start harassing you to have it done.

I have a 2017 MDX SH-AWD Advance sitting in my garage right now that I can’t do anything with. Don’t want to drive it because I’m afraid it’ll start to have the rod knock issue. I really want to sell it, but I can’t even do that. Probably going to be the last Acura I own…despite being meticulously maintained, it’s had too many problems since I got it.
My pilot is affected as well. I’m going to continue diving normally. If something happens, I’ll get into a loaner. This will turn into a huge mess once parts are available.
Been suffering a knock like noise since purchasing my 2019 Passport @ 24k miles. Almost at 70k miles and I am not sure if the noise I'm hearing is even related to this or not. I opened up an investigation with AHM and they more or less shuffled their feet at me. Had an engineer told me they were actively investigating but that it was a normal characteristic. Absolutely nuts.
I'll report back if the knock becomes more persistent like the one in the video....
Appreciate your input. Best of luck and definitely report back please.
I have a '19 Passport as well. Started hearing a subtle clicking sound at 58,000... only audible when slowly accelerating from a stop. We took it to our local Honda dealership and it was diagnosed with a bad main crank bearing. They provided us with a loaner and had our Passport repaired in three weeks. I was surprised it wasn't related to the crank connecting rod recall. Regardless, we're selling the vehicle- with a perfect service record there's no excuse for a crank bearing to go bad... done with Honda.

@@saltmaker5353 exactly
That is my case as well. I am worried if they will inspect and say you dont need repair. Whats the guarantee it wont happen ! Better to replace the parts !
As a 2017 Pilot owner, 75K miles, excellent condition, im very curious about how my engine differs from others.
I own a 2012 TL with the 3.7 L engine. It burns oil like it’s its job. Yes, I had the oil consumption test done, but it was only burning half a quart per 1k. Acura said this was within standard, and declined to repair the engine. AND ofcourse 10 years later the car is burning a lot more oil. This is why I’m starting not to trust Acura. They have these quality problems, but they have certain stipulations of when and why they will fix it.
What are your oil change intervals?
@@BCautosolutions I followed the oil change reminder from the computer display. But I’ve recently learned, by watching you that was not a good idea. The recommended Acura interval is 7500 hundred miles which is nearly double what I go on my F150, which is 5000.
@@gamitaalfonso9999 yup, that’s definitely the issue unfortunately
I had engine failure on my 2016 TLX 3 weeks ago. 93,000 miles and out of warranty. I received a recall letter in the mail. I guess I have no leg to stand on in this situation?

If anyone is affected by this Honda V6 engine recall, you will be notified by mail from HONDA
Yes, eventually.
Well, I'm thankful for these recalls; I remember back in the 80s, going anywhere in a car was basically a Hail Mary... most of the Detroit crap anyway.
But, the problem I'm having with these Honda recalls, is that the defects are often very basic things... wiring-harness in the tailgate breaks, engine-hood comes detached and flips up, a segment of the tonneau-cover comes apart and flies off... and this is just on the Ridgeline.
There's something wonky with the fuel-throttle/transmission at 1600-1800 rpm, it 'shudders'... the fuel-economy instrument-cluster accent lights change green to white instantly, and there's a... buzzing sound... happens more when the AC is on and have a load in the bed. And, it's a bi-i-i-g mystery, which I find hard to believe.
I almost did a valve adjustment this summer on my '16 TLX 122 000km, but I only did transmission/differential fluid and timing belt (live in cold weather and they recommend 100,000km for timing belt). I wanted to wait for the valve adjustment and spark plug because of $$... I'm contacting a local Acura dealership to see what's up. I think I'm the 3rd owner of the car, will I be contacted by Acura if my car is recalled if I'm not the original owner?
Yes, goes to the current registered owner.
My 19 Odyssey has a rod knocking noise. Probably that’s the reason. Hopefully it will be recalled. By the way, did you come across any engine failure of the affected vehicles? For example, 16 pilot is quite old so if this was a manufacture mistake we would have many engine failures by now. What do you think?
Yeah i was shocked when I heard it tbh. I know Acuras tlx has been an issue with these but I personally have not seen 1 on the Honda side.
A Lot of the V-6 engine have that knock noise, almost every one for the last few years, Odyssey especially. They say its just the way it is. The 1.5 TC has an awful knock in every platform, just a characteristic.
@@MayhemCanuck injector ticking is very normal. The “knock” most people come across is a bad timing belt tensioner. Have yet yet to see 1 of these engines come in kicking from a rod bearing at my dealer. Not saying it’s not happening but the timing is very much more probable.
@@BCautosolutions We have several files open on Ody V6 for a bottom end knock, checked for a cracked flex plate and it’s very different from the tensioner knock. Only pilots we have heard were the two we had to put short blocks in due to #3 bearing failure
@@MayhemCanuck good to know, we haven’t had any tbh but I’m sure they are out there. Maybe most are failing out of warranty and people are electing to do them at outside shops? Is there a typical range of mileage of failure or are all the open cases you have all over the map? Also you have broken flex plates on those odyssey’s or were checking it and lead you to finishing block failures? Thanks for sharing 🫡
So Much for that reputation of reliability everyone runs into the ground. You cant watch a video on any car brand without out someone saying "just buy a Toyota or Honda those things last forever.....dont buy that Kia...bad motors.... don't buy that Nissan...bad transmissions" now we are hearing about these massive engine failures on BOTH Toyota and Honda....and Honda have low key BEEN having transmission issues....everyone is "shocked" now

Did any Honda Passports make the list?
No don’t think so

I have a 2016 Pilot and my mechanic says the knock is in the lower end. My dealership is saying they can't fix it until the recall is released. That leaves me without a vehicle until then. Can't they call Honda Corporate to get permission to fix it so I have a vehicle to drive? Sorry I'm not the first person ever to have the problem hit between when it's announced in the news and when they open the recall.
call American Honda. We just replaced on without being covered by the recall but was covered under normal warranty.
It is only V6 engines? I have a 2020 1.8 (R18 with 16k miles) Honda HRV with same noise when accelerating at low rpms when warm, it's really subtle and this noise can also be heard on some other HRV's, Ridgeline, Passport, Pilot, Civic, you name it... what's weird is that this "tapping" or "knocking" noise is algo present in some newer models of the v6 engines (2021+ which are not mentioned on the recall).
So maybe the symptom that they describe as "abnormal engine noise" is not necessarily this light tapping noise, maybe it's different...
Imagine it being also on the R18 engines too (which are famous for being super reliable). Hope it's not since I've been driving the HRV for more than 10k miles without the noise getting worse.
Only affects some v6. The r18 is a great engine.
My engine blew on my 2018 TLX V6. It was still under warranty. Acura covered the engine replacement, car rental etc…I took them 5 months to replace the engine because they were waiting for a part from overseas. I need to ask them know if the engine repair needs the recall work.

Yep, same here. Honda Ridgeline 2018, 125K km, spung bearing Cyl No3.
You didn't mention 2020 Honda pilots? are those affected as well?
They aren’t as of now
The Honda pilots and passports had trans issues, people were seeing failures around 105k miles. I imagine they will have some engine issues as well with that cylinder deactivation crap causing uneven wear.
Correction: @ 0:20 you said "camshaft" journals, It's the crankshaft journals that were manufactured incorrectly. They were made too thick and fit too tightly in the crankshaft bearings causing too much friction by not allowing engine oil to properly lubricate the crankshaft journals and the bearings. This will cause a tremendous heat build up that will result in catastrophic engine failure and possibly start a fire that could destroy the entire vehicle.
Yes I realized. Thanks
Is the 2013 Accord V6 (J35Y1) part of this recall?
No
Im CONFUSED 🤔, at 19 second of the video you said "Camshaft journals" but then went on to talk about "rod bearings", am I missing something? If you are talking about CRANKSHAFT bearings, ... then rod bearings would make sense
Yeah I said it wrong. It’s all in the bottoms end.
The recall documentation says it expects only about 1 percent of recalled vehicles will be found to have the defect.
Yes, that’s correct which is great news. Everyone hoping to simply get a new engine for no reason on their 200k car will be highly disappointed 😅

Sheesh. Ugh can’t wait 😩😩
When I start my 2019 MDX and put it into Reverse, the RPMs sometime quickly bounce from 1200-1400ish (typically 3 times within 1 or 2 seconds) and then it shifts into Reverse. No clue if this is related to the recall but definitely a strange issue. Any thoughts?
Also how can all these model years be affected but only certain VINs? Were these engines assembled in different plants or what?
Definitely not related to this issues and maybe something with the trans itself.
Yes all vehicles may not be affected, there should be vin breaks once recall is live
Yeah I have the same on my 2017 MDX. But I don't think it's something to worry about. It does it sometimes when the engine is cold and I shift to reverse just a few seconds after starting the engine. If I wait a bit like 30 sec - a minute before shifting then it's not happening.

2019 Acura MDX Tech owner here. Got my recall letter a few weeks ago. I have 64K on the odometer, engine is quiet and smooth, even under full acceleration. Dealership told me you may never have a problem the entire time you have the car, but they’re replacing the short block anyway. They can’t resell it with the original engine. How do you feel about transferring used cylinder heads onto a new short block assembly? I’d rather the engine came fully assembled, from heads to oil pan before the swap. Transferring fuel delivery, intake, pulleys, not an issue for me. Used heads make me worry and maybe having compression issues. My other worry is will this recall carry over into the newer 2022 and up V6’s?
Any thoughts?
So Honda doesn’t sell long blocks. Anytime we replace the block we use the old head(s) unless if the head is also damaged. I would be more then ok with just replacing the block.

would you say 4th gen ODY has the least powertrain problems ???@@BCautosolutions
@@lbrown7164 5th gen. Best engine and trans.
Hi, do you by any chance have the wiring diagram for 21 honda pilot ex-l. My infotainment is not working.
That’s a very complex system and looooooong diagram. Does it light up at all?
@@BCautosolutions no fuses are good
Does this recall include cars with reconstructed titles?
I’m not sure tbh.
Say who!? I'm shopping for Odyssey's! If they are being sold as CPO, does that mean the dealer knows it's in the clear?!
Once the recall is out we can know what vehicles are affected and which ones aren’t.
Is there any recall issued already? Anyone knows the recall or TSB number? Thank you!
No. Very limited info.
You said 21 pilots are safe or did I misunderstood? Thanks for the alerts sir.
Safe
@@BCautosolutionsphew. Thank you.
Wife got the recall letter a few days ago for her 2018 TLX V6. It is a J35. I am not too worried about it. This isn't an E90 BMW V10 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah I do as well on my pilot. Just gotta let this play out and see what the procedure is.
I bailed on Honda years ago. Not the same company as it was in the 90s.
What have you moved onto?
@@BCautosolutions Toyota or Mazda
Honda is better than ever.
This but not the l15 headgasket smh
I hear ya….but to be fair atleast on the Acura side this has been going on for a while, on the Honda side, I haven’t seen any.
Ive seen a few v6 on the honda side myself. Actually had one i diagnosed back in 2019. Techline said it was normal lol
@@manlb9254 a knock being normal 🤣🤣 man, gotta laugh at some of the things those guys say. I had to call multiple times and send multiple pics and videos on a ridgeline fuel tank repair that was unsafe. Finally as I’m all done hacking it, they call me to not do it. Too late, so they had to buy it back with the extra cost of parts and labor.
@@BCautosolutionscustomer traded it in and was re sold. New owner brought it in later on and finally got the short block replaced dpsm made the call.

My passport is making a jingling noise like there is marbles in my engine and how can the passport not be affected w the same engine? I purchased some bs third party warranty for 100k miles and i currently have 41000 miles.. engine is slightly misfiring too.. i baby thing thing.. only 0 20 honda full synthetic..
When do you get the noise?
@@BCautosolutions At idle in drive or neutral ... Fresh oil and filter.. almost seems like timing or a diesel engine sound.
@@BCautosolutions maybe need valve adjustment?
@@realdeal485 if I had to guess would say high pressure fuel pump
Where can we find the Vin#s for the Acuras
There are no vins available yet.
Have a 2018 Honda pilot LX
2017 Ridgeline...are you kidding me
Injectors- tsb replace
Fuel pump-tsb replace
Start button- tsb replace
Judders- tsb 'remedy'
So I'm waiting for my engine to blow or transmission to die..181K miles I guess it's time for EV
181k not bad tbh. What major issues have you had or had to pay for? Just trying to gauge. Appreciate you sharing 👍🏻
@@BCautosolutions
The last I paid for was the judder remedy. This was in 2020 when the the rpm flutter came back and they found the old 2018 tsb but said I would need to pay for the fluid service + labor and do another software update check
Question, I went to the dealer to get the rear camera harness recall done. They saide it would take 1 day for the tech to check if it needs to be replaced. Long story short it didn't according to them so they release the vehicle back to me. The recall is still open and every so often I get reminder to do it even though I did. Do does the dealer actually need to replace it? It's absolutely a pain to schedule and wait only to heard " backorder or comeback xyz" I don't want BS just to get things done + they stopped offer loaners..really?
The rear camera has only cut out once since the dealer inspection
So you will be just stranded without a car until parts become available 🤯
Im sure those will get prioritized vs ones that haven’t failed yet
So Accords with v6 aren’t affected at all?
At this point, no.
Spung bearing cylinder N03..:( 125000 km Honda Ridgeline 2018.
Sorry to hear
Damn my Side chick have a 17 TLX I ain’t telling her shit I heard that shit knocking too the other night . Thought it was 0w20 weight oil causing it

Nothing on the passports?
Not as of now
This is what happens when you use cheap labor/suppliers
🤐
When is was build in Japan it was bullet proof.
@@tek4629 👏 probably even cheaper labor built there although transportation costs ended up costing more overall. Difference in the build quality is the pride the Japanese have.
what about 2016 acura rdx 3.5 awd ?

How about 2020 honda pilot? Thanks
Not affected
