Rod bearing issues?! Feel like I’m watching a video on BMW engines.
😅
Admittedly those are old force induction engines and under maintenance is also contributing.
I’d say BMW has way more experiences in making high-hp (>300 hp) fuel efficient engines than Honda..
@@bikingmoments I feel what you’re saying. But Honda’s 2.0L 4-cylinder and V6 turbos have been solid for years. Not bad for a first try.
Chill 😅
@@TommyPickIes 😅
.....😂.. For the last year I come up to a red light and I can hear all these cars ticking and tapping next to me especially since my windows are down.. no ac..😂😂😂

Great video. It helped put a visual to what the Acura service advisor told me about what they'll be looking for when they inspect my TLX engine for this recall.

Well. Well. Well. We've reached the end of an era.
@@mackfar27 😢
Thanks for showing. I’m taking my Odyssey in next week to the dealer for the MOST recall and will ask if my VIN is part of this recall.
@@blakefl8623 lmk how it goes. Best of luck.
@@BCautosolutions Dealer said my 2019 is not part of the recall but I'll probably still get an oil analysis in a a few oil changes to make sure nothing is wearing to much. I did one on my last oil change and they said it looked normal. Also had them look at my front end noise we've had that has been getting worse and they said both struts need to be replaced. Seems way too early for this issue. Hopefully the new parts are better designed.
@@blakefl8623 thanks for the updates, if there’s anything alarming in the analysis please report back.
Excellent job as always brother. Seems like after 2008 the J series has been having nothing but oil consumption/starvation issues on the rotating assembly.... Its a shame because theyre such fantastic engines.
@@rawalqayyum5128 💯
Earlier ones had auto transmission problems so you really can't win either way
When ever I think honda can’t have a worse recall to perform as a tech. They say “hold my beer” and one up it.
@@yellowrice1453 lol facts
I was on the Acura side. For the first time in a very long time if ever, American Honda has long blocks available for the vehicles with catastrophic failures.
@@alanstevenson6146 that’s just wild to hear. I have never had a longblock come assembled. It’s always block, head(s).
@@BCautosolutions Yeah we were shocked when our DPSM told us.
Another great video
🙏🏻
Excellent video. Very informative.
@@denvernn thank you
Thanks for the video! I took my 2019 MDX in for this recall and nothing major was replaced. On the repair invoice only hondabond and a couple other minor things were listed, not even rod bearing parts/part numbers were on there. Maybe they reused my original bearings I have no clue 🤷
More videos like this would be great to see. Maybe a forehead camera recording daily jobs? Similar to how TE Videos does it
That’s BS
Did even get the chance to see them bearings ?
That doesn't sound right. If the dealer is billing out the recall correctly, there should be more parts than that.
@@LT33190 if there was a bearing inspection then at minimum it gets new bearings. It’s possible the just were billed out in a specific code or operation number. Also plan on doing more POV videos for sure. Thanks for the suggestion
Why do the Acuras show more catastrophic failures? Aren’t they the same engines?
The problem happened at the acura plant. The bearings used to build the engines there were the wrong thickness and etc. so most vehicle affected are acuras. Some of the engines assembled by acura go to hondas but not all.
does the mechanic need to drain the oil and coolant to change the rod bearing, thanks
@@voxagorvlog8117 oil yes, coolant no.
What’s Honda paying techs for this job?
@@PhillipHustava not enough. There’s so many different op numbers it’s ridiculous
Is this for every 18 pilot? I dont remember what the letter said its been awhile
Have you checked out YT channel TE Videos? I like his POV videos. Perhaps you can consider making similar POV videos while you work on the cars? Thank you!
Yes I follow him. He posts an insane amount of content. His shop or work area seems to be a lot less congested then mine. I’m in front of the parts department which makes for some crazy scenes at times 😅

I quess my 2020 Passport dodged this recall... Just got the mirrors done, it still need the seat sensor, they said no parts available.
@@jestan01 that is correct
Side question as I don’t know who to ask, can I pressure wash my engine bay? I got a hybrid crv. Thank you!!
@@aliyaqub4505 wouldn’t pressure wash it. You can take a hose and just careful with the electronic stuff
@@BCautosolutions thank you kind sir!!
oh no! does this include ,23 tlx type s?
@@mike-sc2nk no
They need to pay more for these crankshaft replacements

What type Hondas are getting recalls
@@WILZ300 • 2015-2020 Acura TLX sedans
• 2016-2020 Acura MDX SUVs
• 2016, 2018-2019 Honda Pilot SUVs
• 2017 and 2019 Honda Ridgeline pickup trucks
• 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey minivans
No all listed will get the recall. It vin specific.
Our dpsm said if the motor isn't making weird noises to ship it and wait till "parts are available" fuck all that waste of time 😅
@@RJ6AV6 👀😬😅
Being a former Honda Mechanic looks to me like that 0W 20 oil is just not working out for them. Use that oil you get better fuel mileage, but wreck your engine. Sounds like a plan to me.
@@DCSPORTSTER that’s definitely a huge part of the problem.
Could you go up in a thicker weight viscosity? If so which one besides 0w20?
@@ihar9975 5w30 💯
@@ihar9975 absolutely, best of luck and keep me posted if any issues arise.
@@ihar9975 yes, I run 5w30 all year similar winter temps
did the car have any symptoms?
No symptoms but the bearings looked nearly perfect. Most of the catastrophic stuff seems to be on the Acura side.
When them bearings look like that, that’s a good sign but not like the other ones shown on picture
Bad bearings make a sometimes noticeable noise tho
