Easy Majima Everywhere System for the live-action is just him apperaring for a few frames every other scene. Makes the fandom go Where's Waldo and post freeze frames everywhere in social media, makes casual viewers go "hey, it's that guy again!" and find said frames, boom, engagement.
Seriously if they capture the vibe like the fallout show did with some little details

For REAL!!! That shit was so peak, getting to see dynamic intros like that in the show would be so cool.
Out of curiosity, if they did have “dynamic intros” for the fight scenes with major characters in the show, would you want the character names to show up on screens like they do in the games? Or do you feel that would subtract from the “gritty realism” they’re going for with the show? I’m interested to hear fans’ opinions on this!
Just to add something to the conversation: Masaharu Take, one of the directors for the show worked on a show called "The Naked Director" which sounds like a Yakuza substory and it is easily some of the most Yakuza-esque thing to have happened outside of the Yakuza franchise so this new show will certainly be interesting to see. I expect the show to at least capture the vibe of the series pretty nicely if things go well enough

That show good was good, the direction top notch. tho the writing got dipped from season 2. What im worried tho is the main lead actor, he looks way too much of a babyface to play Kiryu imo

@PooBoi_YT it's not that they hate Akiyama, but Koochi Yamadeira is probably one of the most in demand voice actor in Japan, which both decrease his availability and increase his cost.
I'll grant you that doesn't explain why they didn't retcon him at the end of Kiwami though.

im gonna scream if theres no receive you version/theme mix
way back when when live action adaptations were never good i thought to myself "man its so hard to fit a game that can go on for 10s of hours into a 1 or 2 hour movie, why dont they just make them into shows?". I am glad that the industry read my thoughts because ever since we have been getting shows instead of movies they have been so much better, and Yakuza is another example that would be so much better as a show so im pretty excited for this while remaining optimistic. If this show is a big hit we may see another popularity surge like what happened with 0 and 7.
I also think that the adaptation would take place between the event Yakuza 0 to Yakuza 1 or untold story of what happened in Yakuza 1. Since the JP title of this show is Ryu Ga Gotoku ~ Beyond The Game ~, I definitely think the show would do that if they include Nishiki and Kiryu in this.
Oh and the show better have a dynamic intro or OST made by the Sega Sound Team. That the only thing I want 😅
I'm a little skeptical about the 6 episode run (unless it's like an hour per episode), but I'm still pretty excited for this.
Fun fact : Takeuchi Ryoma used to play Tomari Shinnosuke in Kamen Rider Drive which is pretty good acting. So you guys should check it out just in case you doubt his acting skills.
I don't doubt his acting chops but he just doesn't fit as Kiryu imo looks too feminine
Considering the eye of Kiryu's tattoo isn't filled in, maybe it's a sign of it being a possible prequel to Y1/LAD1? Possibly a 0.5 but in show format??

Personally, I hope it accurately catches the wild, scatter-brained vibe of the Games, with a ridiculous superhuman Kiryu, the silliness we see in the Substories but at the same time, the grim, serious vibe of the very first Game as well as in the dialogues. I hope Kiryu and the other major characters will have visible heat auras, that he performs heat actions with the specific SFX sound like in Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, that we see him go play one of the classic Minigames with Haruka and that it is as equally silly as in the games.
That quick change of mood between seriousness, ridiculousness, comedy, weirdness and drama is what makes Yakuza so great.

Nishiki(played by Gaku Sano, who played Kouta Kazuraba/Kamen Rider Gaim)didn't in the stage show so I doubt it😅
Looking at all the people involved and all their previous works I'm predicting a 6.5 or a 7/10 quality show. Fingers crossed for a good time 🙏

Naked Director was a solid 8.5/10 for me. Amazing show
To be honest, I really wanted them to adapt the events of 0 first, given how young Kiryu's actor looks and that his dragon seemingly isn't fully inked in the poster. If they don't do it now, then there's basically no chance of it ever happening later.
Another Kamen Rider actor Gaku Sano,has acted Nishiki in the JP only Yakuza stage show.
Here's hoping Ryoma can be a good Kiryu.
Funniest thing about that is that stage Nishiki is Gaim while this Kiryu is Drive😂😂😂
As for Ryoma, he may be compared to stage Kiryu(Riki/Dogga from Kiva. Fun fact. Takaya Kuroda voiced an alternate Dogga).

A bit late to this and I’m not sure if it’ll be seen, but I wanted to share some more information:
•The announcement about Ryoma, Kento, and Munetaka came from a gossip magazine due to a rumor from people working the filming site. It was said that they were in Roppongi- a district next to the one Kamurocho is based off of- at a nightclub. Munetaka is around a decade older than the other two so I’m not sure who he could be at all.
•They do say that they’re going to explore stories not shown in the games, and there’s a focus in some articles about his childhood friends. So, I assume this will mean they show stuff about Nishiki, Yumi, and Yuko (if she’s the third one they’re talking about) we haven’t seen before.
•RGG Studio was involved since Day 1. Nagoshi talked about it in 2020 at Tokyo Game Show, saying that he had made it very clear to the producers who approached him that he wanted the studio to have a strong say in everything. He had even said that he didn’t think a live action was necessary, but would only allow it to happen if the script was to his liking. I believe at some point in 2022, they had finished the scripts.
•I got that last bit from the Wild Sheep Content site which one of the executive producers, Erik Barmack, is in charge of. It’s also where I learned they started production in early May. But the specific article about production is from another site that’s paywalled for some reason even though a ton of their other articles aren’t. Erik himself had talked about working on the show in some interviews and events, and he always sounded very excited about it.
Definitely going to check this out! I hope it ends up being really good so it can blow up the series even further

I'm keeping my expectations in check, but I would be laying if I said I'm not excited.
At worst, we get some cool shots of kamurocho,maybe some OST remixes, and most importantly, some memes.
At best, we get a great show

It's finished, I think the lighting is just different. They also said it would be set in the 1995 and 2005 (exact years for Y1).
Thanks for bringing this up, I almost forgot they were planning another. Personally I enjoyed the Miike Takashi Like a Dragon film, despite some odd bits feeling a little out of character, it did do a decent job covering the events but also included some honest dumb fun at times and I appreciate that aspect. Stamina x for the win!
On the topic of live adaptations as well as being one of the five people (lol) that would love to see Kurohyo in the west, I remember seeing 3 film adaptations of the delinquent based manga series called "Crows Zero" that were pretty fun too, main character was also played by Shun Oguri (Yakuza 6's Someya) and had a surprisingly very similar look to Kurohyo's Tatsuya, hair style included.
The Crows Zero films had some very yakuza-esk vibes, decent brawls and some extremely goofy "heat move" like moments here and there, I genuinely would recommend it to Like a dragon fans looking for something kinda resembles Kurohyo.

I recently caught wind of this when I was in someone's stream where they mentioned this. Caught me off guard, but I'm really interested in seeing how they handle it. Hopefully well but we'll have to wait and see.

I am Japanese. I don't have good memories of live-action. This is not limited to the Yakuza series. There are many Japanese manga and anime that have been made into live-action films, and I don't like every single one of them
Well good thing Yakuza isn't a manga or anime, because adaptations of games have been going really well these past few years.
Fair enough! On the global side, I've seen a niche fanbase for the live adaptations for Yakuza. Nobody will tell you they're the best thing they've watched, but they appreciate it for what it is. I personally didn't care much to go back and see them, not yet at least. But I'm looking forward to see what they do with this one.
That is fair. I give an exception to the Yakuza live action adaptations for being so faithful to the video games to a comical degree. The power of staminans, the stage play having the green interaction arrows, goofy majima, the stage play stopping time. But you're right: live action adaptations don't have a good reputation most of the time

Leon, you're missing out on the Kurohyou TV series. The series shows Tatsuya ballin'! There's no way you wouldn't love to see it!
I've seen the one where you'll see kazama, kiryu, nishikiyama yumi and nishikiyamas sister.
The most interesting detail of this announcement to me has to be how the series focuses on Kiryu "and three of his childhood friends". Two of them are most certainly Nishiki and Yumi, but there hasn't been a third friendly figure in Kiryu's childhood in the games. I'm guessing the best candidates are either Nishiki's sister or Reina, but I wouldn't be too suprised if they change some backstories to make Majima the third childhood friend.
Unlikely - it would be too far of a departure, IMO, since RGG0's there. Probably a new character.

like in game every person plays the game differently, but with the show we are all gonna experience the same thing, no side tracking to go sing karaoke or play bowling (unless it actually happens in the show lmao)

bro the stage play was the best adaptation so far. I am so sad that kiryu's actor is disabled, because he was awesome. I'm excited for this show because the movie was crap but i still loved it, i will also love this. also I know the yakuza series is at like the height of it's popularity now but I really hope more people start to love it. I don't know anyone IRL who likes the games or has even played them.

I am somewhat hyped to see it, but having it exclusive to streaming is tempering my expectations quite a bit. I really hope that it gets a DVD and/or Blu-ray Release at some point. A Digital Release at the very least if you ask me. My main concern is that should licensing expire or fall apart at any point in time, the series will be pulled and effectively Lost Media. That is also a problem with Digital titles too, but at least you can see it that way without having to commit to another subscription service that might not have much else that you like.
I hope this gets inspired by the fanmade movie.

There's quite a lot of game adaptations now so I'm just going to stay neutral by not being hyped or negative towards it.
I love the Yakuza/LAD franchise but another story around the original Yakuza sounds like more of the same compared to the previous adaptations.
If it was a unique story then I'd be personally excited for that.
So yeah, cool that we are getting more Yakuza/LAD but I really wish it was something different than the original story.
I'm pretty excited! I am a fan of Jdramas/movies so I'm maybe a bit easier to please than most as sometimes I think western people especially find the acting to be a bit over the top. I doubt it'll be the quality of Fallout, unfortunately, but I'm cautiously optimistic!
