Hank Williams was the very best of that whole bunch, encore after encore, no one will ever match his talent when it comes singing a good old country song. Wow his voice was simply amazing and so smooth. He's the man that put Nashville on the map as the music City of the USA.
Rumor has it that they told Stonewall Jackson his presence was no longer needed. They wanted younger entertainers. Willie Nelson and George Strait made the right decision to now join this group.
The HELLywood puppeteers want a piece of EVERYTHING they can get their claws into. Jus' take a BODY count of ALL the actors who've committed suicide since the beginning of the industry. Tinseltown is the devil's PLAYGROUND.🔥👹🔥
The American icon Toby Keith was not a member of the Opry either. He didn't want to be cause he didn't live in Nashville he stayed in Oklahoma. May he R.I.P. We missing you Big Dog! And as I've seen in researching what the Opry expects from their members I hate to say this but it seems like they are way to controlling and trying to run the artist lives. That's not how it works.
The Grand Ole Opry is supposed to be the "Mother Church of Country Music", however, what many don't know, is the fact that the Opry has also been known to play Favoritism from time to time as well. Johnny Horton was never a member of the Opry, and the Absolute best Quartet in Country Music, AKA, The Statler Brothers were also never Members of the Opry either. Johnny was never invited, and when the Statlers were asked to join, they turned down the request, partly because of their Touring Schedule, but also because they never performed any Drinking/Cheating Songs. Their Material was all about their Memories from growing up in Virginia, and later on in their years, they began having less hits until Jimmy Fortune stepped into the Picture.
I think Groucho Marx said it best about being offered membership in (I think) the Friars Club when he said he wouldn't join any club that would have him as a member..
Most of us that’s 80 years old or so remember back in the days of cash Willie Nelson, Chris Kristofferson, David, Allen Cole a lot of those people back then in the 60s was going through a trend change it was the time for hippies dope smoking getting wild and doing anything you wanted to do if you didn’t want to comb your hair, you didn’t have to the Opry had standards for people to follow and commitments and if you didn’t want it enough to comply that was fine but they wouldn’t have you on the Opry if you showed up drunk, doped up or anything else You blew your chances. They had a handful of people that did exactly that the industry preferred to them as outlaw country people. Mainly because they were so rebellious.
The Opry is kinda whack. Like i know Hank Sr. was strung out on morphine and booze but he was also one of the best to ever do it. Hank 3 blew up the Opry pretty good on multiple songs. This video was great! 👊🤠🍻

I'd rather be on the banned list then the member list. Sounds like its more fun....and distinguished. And as that great old country singer, Groucho once crooned...."I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member."
Williams was drunk/stoned and unable to perform when scheduled twice. In addition, while leaving, assaulted staff. Cash, stoned/drunk during his performance did shatter all the lights which caused a small fire, as well as, exploding Hot Glass was showered into the first 6 rows which resulted in 10+ being taken to St. Thomas and Baptist Hospitals. He also assaulted staff and urinated in the common dressing room. He did tape the Johnny Cash Show in the Ryman, and he was more than a handful to deal with petty needs. George Jones was a pain in the ass, as well as, a few others. Willie lived in Green Briar, northeast of Nashville for 20+ years and in the early days performed regularly in the early days but was not invited. Minnie Pearl was NOT Banned..... The post took 2/3s of the time to finally get to the topic.....
Sounds like when you get to an age they no longer want retired performers. They never make the money these modern day performers do. So treat them like trash and they go away.
Too bad for the Opry people. Kind of sounds like the same old favoritism the R&RHOF does, not letting extremely talented people and bands in, but letting lesser talent in. Even acts that aren’t Rock & Roll. Boo ….
The Grand Ole Opry, over the years, has way over estimated it's own importance ! These so called "banned performers" needed the Opry like they needed a hole in their head ! The Opry needed them a lot more than they needed the Opry ! The only thing George Strait ever wanted or needed, was San Antonio !
@@hankwilliamsfan1986 Hi hankwilliamsfan1986! I got that comment from a RUclips interview with one of Hank's old friends (I don't remember the name.). Yes, Hank did quit, and I have great respect for Hank for making that decision. Hank showed up for a show, and then left before the show began, and didn't come back. That's why Hank was "fired". I call that "quitting". Hank was tired of the HARM imparted, by the Opry's grueling, relentless demands. It makes sense. The MANAGEMENT of the Opry sucked. Opry needed Hank way more than Hank needed the Opry. hankwilliamsfan1986, we do agree on one thing - we're both huge fans of Hank.
Cash, Willie Nelson, and their contemporaries are progressive performers, they're not traditionalists, they just think that country music has more to offer than what it is. On the other hand, G.O.O. is all about tradition and "preserving" country music.
And the Opry kicked out Hank Williams, and then pretended he was a member for decades after his death? I still love listening to The Grand Old Opry stuff of ages past, but the people running it in the past turned out to be slime-balls only concerned with lining their own pockets, or fulfilling their own agendas! As I said, I love me some Grand Old Opry, and I love Bakersfield and the Outlaws. I can even listen shamelessly to Chet Atkins' versions of string-country, as that was part of the compilation albums of when I grew up in the seventies. But the 'Grand Old Opry' lost its shine for too many of us way back when...
I understand his struggle because of how bad his Father treated him and how hard June and her family worked to get him off all those drugs and literally had to pull out a shotgun to run off drug dealers to get him sober and his struggle wasn’t with pot it was pharmaceutical and street drugs other than pot. Glad Mother Mabel, her husband Mr.Carter, and June run off the people who were messing up his mind with really harmful abuse of drugs that weren’t healthy for him. I don’t think any of them should have been banned however I love Opry music.
