What was so "shocking" about Charlie Rich's burning of an award card? It was obviously a light-hearted joke to get laughs at the expense of his friend, John Denver. I remember when Olivia Newton-John won Female Vocalist of the Year in 1974, beating out the likes of Loretta Lynn, Anne Murray, Dolly Parton, and Tanya Tucker. I can't remember who announced that she won but I keep thinking maybe it was Flatt or Scruggs or maybe Bill Monroe, but anyway he pronounced her name as Ol-a-vee'-a Newton.... (and then after a lengthy pause he added) John. It was his way of protesting her win because he was in effect saying that she was such an unknown in the country music world that he didn't even recognize her name. He actually may NOT have recognized her name. He was not the only entertainer who was less than thrilled that she won and many fans were not real thrilled either. The odd thing is that one reason they were protesting so much was that she was born in England and raised in Australia and did not fit their idea of a "country" girl, and yet Anne Murray, who they apparently accepted wholeheartedly, was also not a country girl because she was born and raised in Canada. Like I said, very odd.

I would like to see a documentary made on a country musician named Morris Taylor. He had a country western variety show that was the longest lasting locally produced show in television history. The Morris Taylor show on KHSL Channel 12 in Chico California. The show started in 1956 and ran till 1995, and ran in reruns till 1997. Hopefully you can do the next video with Mindy McCready in it, I don't know the whole story but I feel bad for the way she went out she was a really good singer, or maybe Jim Reeves for that matter, can talk about Jamie Johnson, or Tracy Lawrence run in with the law, or they always bad boy David Allan coe 😎

Jerry Lee was the coldest s.o.b to ever sit in front of a piano. George Jones and Randy Travis are the greatest country singers of all time and they pretty much could/can do no wrong 🔥🔥🔥
Nice to see Jerry Lee in the country hall of fame. But after being one of the most dominant country artists of the 70s and 80s I'm surprised it damn took em so long!
In their younger days Johnny Cash and George Jones could have had an entire list of shocking events all to themselves, what with DUIs and drug busts and what not. And don't forget those Williams boys, Senior and Junior, or Tammy Wynette claiming she was kidnapped, or Tanya Tucker and Glen Campbell getting kicked out of a hotel for fighting with each other while drunk (or high, or whatever).
One moment that isn't remembered as well as these shown here is the night Jeannie Seely performed at the Grand Ole Opry in a mini-skirt. It was the late 1960s and VERY shocking for the time because back then most female country singers still dressed in a similar style to what they'd been wearing in the '50s. So many people involved with the Opry got their noses a bit out of joint seeing a pretty young blonde haired woman showing that much leg that night.
I absolutely agree with you 100%. I don't get emotional when stars pass away, but when I heard about John Denver's death, I cried. My brother & I received JD's greatest hits album for Christmas in the late 70s (along with Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life) and we wore that album out. To this day, if a John Denver song comes on the radio, and my brother's in the car with me, we sing every word.
When they said that Randy Travis took an Ambien and it said off a crazy reaction I truly believe that, I know someone that was taking Ambien and they went plumb crazy one night I couldn't believe that person the things that that person done was unbelievable so yes I believe Ambien can make you do anything almost, I was wondering how Randy became naked with no clothes but after hearing he had taken the Ambien now I no longer Wonder
Same. When I was a teenager my ‘ole buddies mom used to get up randomly in the middle of the night and cook us food. Took us to Walmart once at like 2am…..we got ice cream. She took one every night. lol

The lead guitar player Carl Perkins the singer and Another guitar player was “Johnny Cash” That was at the “Dream Bowl in Napa California in 1956. Jerry Lee’s Country music was right up their with the best of the genre. His 68- 73 period was top tier. His Sun Records era featured some great Country music ‘You Win Again’ ‘Fools Like Me’ ‘I Can’t Seem To Say Goodbye’ to name but few. Jerry always interpreted Hank Williams catalog with individuality and mastery.
I was in Germany in the early 80s. Jerry was in a package tour. Boxcar Willy was on just before the Killer. The crowd was crazy for him. Jerry didn’t get the reaction that Willy got. He got snarky and kicked his piano bench into the audience before stalking offstage. Got himself booed for that.
I don't think Charlie Rich wasn't protesting John Denver getting the award, because of the fact that he was reaching for his lighter before he actual read the winner on the card. (Of course, he could've possibly seen the name when it first fell out of the envelope, but I doubt it.)
Hank Williams Sr took my mom home from a bar when she was 14. Her bro had hooked up and left her there alone. She said he was really nice. She kissed him on the cheek and got out.
George Jones might have had a drinking problem but he had a awesome career. Gorge and Tammy. There both in Heaven now singing together and talking about old times. They both were awesome.
George Jones and Randy Travis are too of my favorite Country singers today. Still listen to them every weekend. The two have amazing voices and George is dearly missed and Randy yr in my thoughts.🇨🇦🌹🌹
I'm a huge Rock and Roll fan. although I was raised originally in a Country music household. my brother and I were Johnny Cash junkies. we had all of his music and watched every episode of the Johnny Cash show. but when I heard the Beatles "I Want to Hold your Hand" I was hooked. but I have never forgotten the music that I originally was brought up on. probably because of the outlaw aspect of it. some of the musicians in this video were well known Rock and Roll musicians in their beginnings. such as Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny cash, though their association with Sun records. and others who were not shown in this video. such as Roy Oribson, Carl Perkins, and Conway Twitty. I have been asked many times why I like both genres of music. one reason is because I like a lot of genres of music. and the other is because the two genres are not that much different. both genres are based off of another genre of music the Blues. the only aspect of Country music that I don't particularly care for. is the tear in my beer aspect which can be a little bit depressing. an additional note; Roy Orbison was the greatest singer of all time. he and Johnny Cash were very good friends. and they very much respected each other. and Roy Orbison went though many very tough times in his life. and the Cash family helped him though them. and he is still very much loved and respected by many people in the music business. and by his many many fans.
From one Stroke survivor to another, keep on keeping on Randy Travis

She ate per usual, she never disappoints. Their collabs are the best
1:55 I knew his grandson Cole in 05-06 and he carried that lighter everyday. Cole is fantastic guitar player/musician himself
These were the years when all the clubs had great music like this
One of the great things about being HUMAN IS WE MAKE MISTAKES AND WE LEARN FROM THEM....
Very well done!!!! Really like your speaking voice & the material you covered!!! Thank you very much…👍✋🙂❤️
Thank you for your support! Much appreciated! 🙏
We all have bad days, amen...
George just has Country written all over his face.
Johnny paycheck shot a guy in the face for a hat!!!
I don’t think it was particularly for the hat, it was bc he was about to clobber him with a beer bottle!!
Part documents the incident
Johnny paycheck was my causing some of his songs was just ok to me
@@wilmaperry4045 as a
Yup
I really like this video, you have to do a part 2 of this!

@@CountryCast when George Jones thought that he was a duck and old man and they would fight with each other, I have heard George and Nancy talk about this, plus the lawn mower stuff with George. Tracy Lawrence's troubles, David Allan Coe having a tiger on his bus! Heard Johnny Van Zandt talking about that
Jerry Lee was the coldest s.o.b to ever sit in front of a piano. George Jones and Randy Travis are the greatest country singers of all time and they pretty much could/can do no wrong 🔥🔥🔥
These vids are sheer BRILLIANCE❣️Absolutely gobsmacking info😺
I was on duty when a bolo came across the radio, the two murders were caught and we never really found out why they did it
Oh wow! Thanks for your service!
Nice to see Jerry Lee in the country hall of fame. But after being one of the most dominant country artists of the 70s and 80s I'm surprised it damn took em so long!
am i trippin or isn’t jerry lee like the worst human being ever not named hitler or putin
What made Milwaukee famous...
These guys are all hardcore onstage and in real life no wonder gg allin loved country music lol
Charlie Rich was out there pulling a "Kanye West" move 2 years before Kanye was even born. 😂
A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts.
Tammy wynette lied about her kidnap attempt. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Learned things in this video Thank you!
Once was a thought inside my head
'Fore I'd reach 30 I'd be dead
Now somehow on and on I go
I keep on rollin' with the flow
George Jones was my favorite. He was the best
Jones the best to ever do it thanks for the memories rip jones we love and miss u
Chris, we want more songs like thiiiiis!
John Denver had such a beautiful voice and every song was great to this day, and always!
Thank you for this info. Very interesting. ❤️👍🇺🇸
They should include the kick George gives to the cameraman in a video game, the George Jones kick
She took one every night. lol
yeah, that's scary stuff. you could walk into traffic or burn down the house and not even realize what you're doing.
@@swampdonkey4919 hey you're so right A friend of mine that was on that Ambien done some crazy stuff and had no clue that she done it, one night she got up and picked up a teddy bear that belong to her granddaughter building front of a mirror and started cussing it I'm telling you it was one scary sight the things I've seen there's no way I would touch that stuff
@@rodneystephens8859 I was prescribed the stuff in my early 20s. My dad, stepmother, and college dorm mates have a lot of stories about me, let me tell you. But at least nobody got hurt.
My sister in law got up took a bath & shaved one leg after taking Ambien. Next day she was so confused how her leg got shaved. On the show Rescue Me a Fireman went shopping & insulted people after taking one. It was really funny.
I am so proud of you when I saw that innocent you did I was not very happy but you changed your life around I'm always been a big fan of your music when I was a little kid I never stopped listening to I heard what what happened to you I always will keep you in my stay strong my friend always keep you posted your biggest fan Christobal Manriquez
What a talented person he is and was when this happened sitting there with no britches on..
It doesn't get any darker than Gary Stewart's life story
He Stopped Loving Her Today. Might make a good country song.

They are people first with problems like everyone else. Some of the greatest singers ever especially compared to what we have now. Quit listening to country music when it became NOT country.
My mother and father split up when I was 4 years old. Mom lived in California & dad moved to San Antonio Texas. Around a year later he was coming to California to take us three kids back to Texas for 3 months. Summer vacation.
Dad took us to see a country band while we were still here in California. Napa Ca.
Dad paid and we walked in. No music yet they were just throwing out some sawdust so our feet could move to the music. The lead guitar player Carl Perkins the singer and Another guitar player was “Johnny Cash”
That was at the “Dream Bowl in Napa California in 1956.
Oh June Carter stood off to Johnnys right side and sang up a storm with Carl an Johnny
No show was the greatest RIP GEORGE JONES 🤘R.H.E.C
String bean was the man
George Jones, the best and always will be
Jerry Lee’s Country music was right up their with the best of the genre.
And, I LOVE Loretta Lynn!!!
Love the clip of George Jones.. especially after watching Tales from the Tour Bud lol
I don't think Charlie Rich wasn't protesting John Denver getting the award, because of the fact that he was reaching for his lighter before he actual read the winner on the card. (Of course, he could've possibly seen the name when it first fell out of the envelope, but I doubt it.)
I never thought of John Denver as a country and western artist. When I think of him I remember his duets with Plácido Domingo and Julio Iglesias.
Hank Williams Sr took my mom home from a bar when she was 14. Her bro had hooked up and left her there alone. She said he was really nice. She kissed him on the cheek and got out.
Cool story!
Kissed his “Cheek”🤣🤣🤣
Something for her to tell her grandchildren!
Wow!
My years began in 1948 , so this music ment the world to us veterans of the ugly Vietnam War & the real rock tunes , back then !!
