A jobbing one toady as I fix a number of plumbing problems. I attend a commercial site to look at a leak, sort a leaking toilet and repair a burst pipe under the floor.

Tom i was a plumber for over 20years and i have seen a number of plumbers and you are up there with the best your knowledge for your age is second to none. All the best Allan keep the good work.
Thanks for the support as always Allan, it is greatly appreciated
Tom,don't put yourself down mate, your quality and range of work is right up there mate.
Thanks for the support as always James, it is greatly appreciated mate 👍
Great work done under the floor, well done. A difficult job but as always you got it done.
Thanks for the support as always mate, it is greatly appreciated 👍
Great work Tom. It's always annoying when the solder won't run. In a spot like that, it's about 2000 times more annoying 😮😅
There must have been just a drop of water in the pipe, it's annoying but we got there in the end, thanks for watching as always mate
Well done Tom that underfloor leak must of been a nightmare to expose and fix do enjoy your content proper plumbing videos thanks
Thanks for the support John, glad you enjoy the videos
That pipe in the floating floor was always going to be a nightmare Tom, so well done as usual , hope you video the immersion heater swop, they are always nervous times 🤪 you take care. 👍🚽
Thanks for the support as always Peter, the immersion swap was a dodgy one, I did film it, it wasn't the safest I have ever felt trying to reach of the top of a ladder
Great content tonight Tom, no need to put your workmanship down. You always to do a top job, we should all try to work as good as you. PS I love the ‘Tom jobbin’ bag. 👍
Thanks for the support as always Andy, a bucket is the still the best thing for jobbing, catch all the leaks
Just to add to other commenters, your work, knowledge, and skill is absolutely second to none!
That leaking pipe looked extremely awkward, so not surprised you had trouble with it.
Part of our house has a floating floor like that - I found out when I drilled a hole into it, straight through a heating pipe!
Had to get most of the chipboard and insulation up to dry it out. Found they’d just rested the copper pipes on the concrete slab, with grooves cut in the insulation to make room for them!
That's pretty common practice just to cut groves in the insulation, technically water pipes should be ducted, I don't think I have ever seen it done though, thanks for the support as always Steve
Tom another great honest video mate. As far as your quote goes, my mentor when I was an apprentice passed at Christmas with Asbestosis. Absolutely the right call Tom.
I am sorry to hear that mate, I don't take any chances, I'm all for getting a job done, but when I'm putting myself and others at risk just to save a few pounds it's just not worth it. Thanks for the support as always Rob 👍
Tom i think you're great. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for watching mate, glad you enjoy the content
You wasn’t waffling at the end mate, great advice and teachings. Keep up the good work and these videos 👍
Thanks for the support mate, it is greatly appreciated
Wear some gloves where you can Tom , save your skilled hands . Good work bud .
It is a bad habit of mine, I would always recommend wearing gloves and I really should, thanks for the support Paul 👍
I’ve told him Paul!, Gloves are a must in this game. Once you start wearing them, it’s second nature. I cut the Thumb & Index finger off my gloves. Wear them most of the time.
Your vans cleaner than mine 😂 good video 👍
Blimey, I do need to sort mine out but every time I am going to do something crops up, thanks for the support as always Andy
Great video Tom 😎👍
Thanks for the support as always PB, it is greatly appreciated
Great vid Tom, I like the way you keep it real and don’t cut out the bits others would nice jobbing about jobs, keep it up mate always enjoy watching.
Thanks for the support as always Charles, I do like to keep the videos as real as possible, show the warts and all
bugger of a job under the floor tom, prob been a little water sitting in it but u got there, i keep a few tectite sprint on the van now for there awkward moments, i know they are still pushfit and use the same locking principal as plastic fittings but just feel they are a bit better quality, and definately look better where seen
Would you trust tectite sprint not to leak? I've been interested in using them
@@paul55767 absolutely, use them more and more now for awkward places or theres risk of scorching like inside a sink unit. Looks better than compression as well. Cant really use it on old scabby pipe though
They are handy and like you say look better than compression of speed fit, It would have been an option if I couldn't have soldered it
What a ballache that leak was mate! Well done for sorting it though!
Thanks for the support as always Dan
Nice content Tom and as always total transparency. You tend to put yourself down way too much mate, your knowledge and skills are second to none👍🏻
Thanks for the support as always mate, I have always been like that mate, I do doubt myself a lot
Tom please dont judge your work so critically .Your work ethic and knowledge is second to none. This is coming from a guy with the exact same work criteria as yourself. Nobody knows it all and we are all still learning.
Thanks for the support Ian, I really apprecaite the kind words and support
Some nice little jobing jobs there Tom ..you never know what you are going to find on them ..makes things interesting .👍👍👍👍👍
I certainly does John, thanks for the support as always mate
Great knowledge and great skills, you spend time working out the problems and don’t give up!
Thanks for the support mate
Good vid mate!!! Hope you are keeping well
Thanks for watching Brad, hope you are doing well mate 👍
Hi Tom , great video again , including fixing your own work . Dont put yourself down , I keep learning from you , even trying to grow a beard to see if that helps my plumbing.
Thanks for the support as always Chris, it is greatly appreciated 👍
Great work as always Tom. It's always annoying when the solder won't run another great job
It is super annoying, I guess that's where press comes in, thanks for watching as always Keith
Hi Tom, some awkward jobs for you there, the solder job looked a real pain.
It makes the job even harder when you have to remake the joint, yes it’s happened to me in the past too.
A couple of weeks ago I had a similar awkward solder joint to do and you guessed it, it leaked 😡.
Another great film thank you, take care Tom, 👍👍👍
Thanks for the support as always Chris, it is always tricky under a floor, it only takes someone to flush a toilet at the wrong moment and the pipe fills back up a bit, we got there in the end though
Nice pipe work getting to that leak was great. Don’t put yourself down super work.
Thanks for the support as always Mark
That job with the asbestos in the flue , explain to the customer the issue and inform them that if any body else does it without getting a specialist contractor in they are risking their lives and thd customers. The bonding would only need doing if the incoming gas and water are metal pipes , if they are plastic no bonding is required now . The job with the leak under the floor wasn't surprised it leaked, water in the pipe ruins soldering .
You would hope people would get asbestos removed responsibly but there will be someone who will cut the corner, technically it may will be a non licensed removal, but the rope inside the flue joints will be blue and therefore licensed. The water and gas were both metal incoming, I do always check for bonding requirements when quoting. I may still win the job but I guarantee someone will not bother doing it properly, thanks for watching as always mate 👍
You can never be too careful with asbestos mate. I’m an old geezer, and can remember fitting asbestos flue systems, cutting it with a Hacksaw. Then there was the Monkey Dung, we got paid price work to remove it from Plant Rooms, done it with basic masks at night & weekends.
Fucking Russian Roulette this game mate!!
I lost a pal 20 years ago, he died of Asbestosis. He served his time as a Spark in the Glasgow Shipyards in the 60’s.
That would be a good reason for sleeving pipes going through walls. Another good day Tom.
That's it mate, you see it all the time where people don't bother but it can does cause problems down the line, thanks for the support as always Hugh
Top Work as always Tom,
👍👍🤜
Thanks for the support as always Tony, it is greatly appreciated 👍
Your a good tradesman Tom, nice selection of jobs as always, have a good week
Thanks for the support as always Danny, I like to vary the jobs as much as I can
That was a really awkward job Tom, good perseverance from you 👍🏻
Another fab video…
We got there in the end, thanks for watching as always Shaun 👍
You probably know this already, but equipotential earth bonding for incoming gas and water pipes is only for metal incomers.
That is correct, this house had metal incoming, I always check and do upgrade if I fit a new boiler, I probably won't win the job as some plumbers won't bother, I have allowed a day for a sparks as the water bonding is awkward and there are a few other issues with the wiring, thanks for watching
Great work as always. Do you mind explaining to me why the valve would leak if you touched it at 05:18 ? Thanks in advance!
They always leak, they come with the toilet cisterns and pour out when you touch them, there is an o-ring inside which is fine until you touch it but once disturbed will leak every time, thanks for watching
More real life awkward jobs, nothing fancy just the crap we all encounter!!
Good call on the asbestos, in the past i have ripped out old linoleum tiles not knowing they contained asbestos until recently and again got caught out with asbestos insulation board hidden between lath and plaster and plasterboard overboarding, no way to tell it was there until i cut into it.
Very easily to unknowingly expose yourself and certainly not worth the risk if you know something is asbestos containing.
Thanks for the support as always Paul, I won't take the risk anymore, If I get caught or someone reports me the fine would be huge, I would sooner not do the job than put myself and others at risk
Loving the commercial bits. 🎉
Glad you enjoyed, thanks for the support as always, it is greatly appreciated
Always interesting content 👍
Thanks for the support as always Ian
Hi Tom
Try working in London and you might find parking costing £20.00 an hour or more
Regards
Lawrence Peters
You can nearly buy a house for that round here, thanks for the support as always Lawrence
hello tom .... suicide valve touch it it will leak lol ....... great work as always .....
There isn't much certain in life apart from death, taxes and those plastic isolators leaking when you touch them, thanks for watching as always Lee
@@PlumbLikeTomhad quite a laugh at that remark ...
Next video will be Tom sorting that horrendous mess in the back of his van 😂
I will get round to it one day, it's not as bad as it was the other week though, thanks for watching as always Colin 👍
😊😊😊😊
Thanks for the support as always Ross, it is greatly appreciated 👍
Love the range of work you do, are you self employed?
I work for my families construction company, It's my job to try and look after the plumbing side, I struggle to look after myself some days though, thanks for watching mate
🤘😎🤘
Thanks for the support as always Wayne 👍
That under the floor look a right chew on to fix, how long were you on that one? Your knowledge is second to no one Tom.
It took me 2 hours 10 minutes, time goes so quick when you are on a job like that though, you also have to spend a bit of time figuring out the best option as I don't like damaging floors if I can help it, thanks for the support mate
They always leak in the worst places Tom
They seem to don't they Glyn, thanks for the support as always
Never heard them called a suicide valve 😂 Bloody things are 💩
I don't think I have ever had one not leak, thanks for the support as always Paul
Honestly tom 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the support as always Paul, honesty is the best policy
Tom at least you are Honest and showing it when it goes wrong A very awkward place to work a job well done and I hope you get the job you quoted for if he watches your videos and now he will know paying the right money for the right person get the job done right 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the support as always mate, I always try to show the good and the bad, there's no point trying to hide a mistake. Hopefully I do win the job, you soon learn you don't win them all though, there are some great plumbers out there who can do much better work than me, it is sometimes the case that the customer feels they will do a better job
Great video again hope your not going potty 😂
I feel like I am most days Neil, thanks for watching as always
Cheers Tommy boi 👍
Thanks for the support as always mate 👍
Those velocity bags are ridiculously expensive. I can’t justify one and to be honest I don’t want to. Not paying that much for a badge.
I'm the same mate, I can do the same job with a bucket and it catches all my leaks, thanks for the support as always
If your not paddling Your not plumbing 😂
That's it mate, I do like a bit of water about, it kind of marks my territory
lol. Suicide valve, yeah it’s a trap. Dave
They certainly are, every one I have ever touched starts spraying out, thanks for watching as always Dave
@@PlumbLikeTom They only Collapse and weep, 😰as they are praying/expressing homage to Tom, the Plumbing God of the North. 🧔
Yeah, unprotected copper tube. You done well Tom on a nightmare solder👍👍
Question; how often are you getting the Timing Belt changed on the Transit Custom??!!
It’s a shame Ford have fitted them on their Engines, the Custom is a cracking Van otherwise.
Thanks Tom for sharing👍
My 70 plate one that I handed down to one of the electricians has just had a new engine under warranty due to the wet belt, we also had another one on a 21 plate that needed a new engine due to the same issue, it's all done free as we purchased the extended warranty, it's just down time on the van. Not great when you spend 30k on a van and it needs a new engine every 25k miles. Thanks for the support as always mate 👍
My Custom's a 2015 model, never had the belt changed, didn't know it was necessary, but only done about 80000 miles so far.
I'm by no means an expert, but from what I've heard it's a fairly common problem, when the wet belt goes it's game over, the slightly older models don't seem as prone, I think it should last 150k according to Ford
@@martinwright7093 The Wet Belt situation is well known. Your van may not have a Wet Belt mate??!!. If it does, I’d get it checked sharpish!!
@@PlumbLikeTom For any vehicle, it’s Curtains for the engine if the Timing Belt goes Tom.
But the Wet Belt is particularly bad, some belts have gone with only 14K on the Clock!!
It’s a shite design & it must be costing Ford a fortune!!!
