My uncle Clésius Aquino had one of the largest collection of Henry Mancini sound tracks in various different formats specially vinyl records. He taught all the family how to listen and how to appreciate Mancini's music and other outstanding composer such as Ennio Morricone and Bernard Herman. He passed away on May 31st 2020. Thanks dear uncle Rest in Peace.
My dad and I went to see this film in the theater. I was 16. Remember, Hilly has this theme playing as she and George start their soon to be interrupted love scene. Of course, we didn't know that, and I remember asking my dad if he was going to let me stay for the whole movie! I've had a copy of Silver Streak ever since it was available, first on videotape, then DVD. Thanks so much Jimpsterz for posting this! My favorite movie love theme of all time.
Wasn't it also played when he was driving the car, Richard pryor woke up and asked Gene Wilder was thinking about her, he responded with Yes, the funny thing is, I just met her 3 days ago... (im not sure about the days)
THERE'S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT HENRY MANCINI. The chords, the melodies, the colors.. the moods they set. Quite honestly, I could listen to his work for days on end. I went to see Silver Streak over 10 times, more often than not, to be caressed by the warmth created in Maestro Mancini's rapturous scores.
Silver Streak.........one of the greatest feelgood movies i`ve ever seen. When i am some what depressed, i see this movie. Don`t know how but, i feel much better after seeing this comedy. Pryor and Wilder at there best...also this soundtrack is wonderful.
A great scene is at the trainstation when George had to dress himself as a black dude, the shoeshiner who wanted to sell him everything. George his reply was simple........"NOTHING".
***** When I was a kid many moons ago and I was off school with the flu this film would always go on the old vcr, I actually recorded it twice on a 4hour cassete so I woudnt have to keep rewinding. superb film and some great memories.
Awesome song! And especially the movie itself. I saw him at the cinema when I was just a kid, in 1978 in Bucharest, Romania. And especially the song from the departure of the train from L.A. with a breath of liberty made me dream ... and then, after finishing the film, when I left the room ... of, I struck the gray atmosphere of the communist Romanian reality of that time. What disillusion! Of course, I've seen this movie again and again and again and again ... and of course, now I have it in my portable hard drive, where I keep it as a big treasure. :) Although I was only 14-15 years old ... I still dream about 55 to see America, at least a city, New York! I hope! :)
I was born in 73 so I obviously didn't see this when it came out but I remember it coming on a lot on Sunday nights between 79 and 81 and I used to watch it all the time. Fun seeing Wilder and Pryor together for their first time. I have some friends who hate this movie, they think it's so dumb lol I don't understand that. It's a guilty pleasure of mine, this song takes me back every time I hear it.
Also born is 73. Also watched in the late 70s early 80s on tv, probably came on a couple times a year. My parents had me watching it every time it came on. Oh the Nostalgia like comfort food, what a feeling
Why did I have to be born in 1983? One of my favorite movies, one of my favorite soundtracks (I have the CD even), these are two of the things that make me wish time travel was real and I could go back to the start of the 70's and live the whole decade from start to finish. It truly was a marvelous decade!
Just watched this movie today for te first time because of Jill Clayburgh and had a great experience, not only because of the main trio of actors but also because of the smart screenplay and the amazing soundtrack. May Gene Wilder, Jill Clayburgh, Richard Pryor and Henry Mancini rest in peace.
I love this movie and this track. I remember watching this movie at the old RKO National movie theater in NYC. I have so many memories to bad this theater is no longer there!!
I just saw Silver Streak in its entirety on Netflix! I had seen parts of it on TV over the years but I finally got to see the whole thing and loved it. Mancini was a master--the way he crafted a melody and the way he used bed of strings to complement the piano melody.
I'm in tears reading all the amazing comments here. God bless each one of you and all your loved ones. So grateful there are others that allow movies and music like this, to pierce asunder parts inside of them, that nothing else could ever come close, nor match the healing power that laughter and true character does to the soul for those that hunger for it, pleading for every drop of it that may be available, amen. May your journey and discoveries of what your heart crys for, be fulfilled and met forevermore, amen.
What is it about this movie and its soundtrack that touches the soul to the point of bringing tears to my eyes? The reasons any movie is a standout - the casting and the theme music and this gem has both in spades!
+Diane Mehok Diane - - this tune tends to make one reflect on "good memories, and it is of course a Mancini tune which makes it an excellent selection to start with of course!! Music like this is my remedy for a poor mood, being of down spirits, or just plain needing to align myself with good fortune that I have that I so easily forget for which to be grateful.
Love this beautiful song from SILVER STREAK ... I saw this movie when it came out but I had forgotten its score was composed by Henry Mancini ... thank you for taking me back to enjoy this love song gem from its incredible, delightful score!!!
Awwh!. I just the Silver Streak. What a great movie and what a beautiful song. memories are made by this song. Too bad all the actors in the movie passed away. may God bless them all. life is too short, but it is wonderful.
A great spirit has left us forever! Thank you for your presence on this earth and making our world a better place with talent, personality, and unconditional love and understanding for others Gene Wilder! I know your wife and Richard Pryor spirits have connected once again!
I saw Silver Streak on AMC late last Night/ Early this morning at 2:30 A.M.!! I liked Nead Beatty's Role in the Film!! I remember Ned in the Superman Movies!! He's one of my Favorite Actors!! Silver Streak, what a Cool Name!!!
also I love this movie and this perfect music, I have 39 years, I have seen only on tv silver streak, Yet I was as fascinated and over time I always wanted this pleasure, covering the film when it was transmitted now I agree with all your comments and your memories you who are on the other side of the world, I'm Italian, forgive me for my English but it seems to me to meet you all, thanks I believed to be the only
Oh Mancini, oh Richard , oh Gene, my goodness, thank You Lord, thank You for allowing these amazing people to be upon Thy blessed Earth. How finite we are, yet the glimpses of beauty and joy they've placed in our hearts forevermore, will never die. Oh how precious life is, amen. ♥️✝️
Yeah, I'm 46 and remember seeing this film in a theater way back in '76 or '77. Shortly thereafter, I took a cross-country train trip, and I recall laying in bed one night, staring out the window, imagining a corpse might suddenly appear. i guess that scene could creep out a kid.
Sorry my english is bad. Most beuty music i ever heard mr. Mancini is very clever and great compositor this music made from his heart probably. He had many like chess.....
I didn't know Jill passed away too, what a class act. Class is soo hard to find upon this Earth. I am soo thankful I've found that one, that I am soo unworthy of being with, yet i can't help but pinch myself each day, each moment. My darling introduced me to soo many things in this life, I never thought I would experience, nor ever even see, hear, touch, feel, possess, live. What a miracle this life is, His mercy is soo undeserving, yet He runneth my cup over each day, amen.,♥️✝️
I saw it when I was a kid in '78 though, the cinema Bucharest, Romania. I was about 14. I was fascinated and leaving the room like I was already in another world. Actually it was not so and if we think that times were then. And Mancini's music ... have a particular smell ultimate freedom in a communist country.
God bless you, the many facets of joy and humor in this movie, soothe the deepest pains we possess inside, amen. I pray your family and loved ones are truly blessed in your country, I couldn't even imagine the many catastrophes you've experienced and lived through, amen. ♥️ Thank You Lord, for the people that help us laugh and get through the many heartaches that burn in our heart, never leaving, never ceasing , amen. ✝️
Ooh man this music just makes you feel so good in side. And then the flash backs come in and now u wish it could just be the way it was then God bless everyone🙏🙏🙏
I saw this movie and Stir Crazy at the theatre that's gone now but Gene & Richard R.I.P were great in both films but Stir Crazy was funnier because of Brother Richard but Gene had some great moments in the film too so it's 50/50 on both films and worth watching more than once because of the Stars Themselves
Hotel was based on a motion picture which in turn was based on a best selling novel by Aruther Hailey who also wrote Airport. The tv series basically was Fantasy Island, Love Boat all rolled into one day or week at the St Regis Hotel in San Francisco, Great music from a time when tv shows like Hotel, LOve Boat were like mini movies.. and a pleasure to enjoy.. Thank God for You Tube and Blue-Ray and DvD for all to enjoy a time when television was a joy to watch
Such a soothing yet alluring melody. Is it any wonder that king Saul had David the shepherd boy play sounds of melodic tranquility on his violin? Music has such power to move men. Five stars for these sounds.
This kind of music is timeless. Will remain beautiful forever, unlike the gibberish of today. It's just a shame you can't hear this on any kind of radio stations. Since they took music education out of schools, many young people don't know what real music is.
I found the soundtrack to this movie on Amazon.com but get out your wallet last time I checked it was $88.00 on cd. I wish I could find it on vinyl. I too love this movie and the music! I am 45 and I remember when this movie came out. I agree with Shane13233 the 70's I do miss!

Silver Streak.........one of the greatest feelgood movies i`ve ever seen.

A great scene is at the trainstation when George had to dress himself as a black dude, the shoeshiner who wanted to sell him everything. George his reply was simple........"NOTHING".
That`s what i said before.....it`s one of the greates feelgood movies i`ve ever seen.
