Thanks for sharing this with everyone. I actually opted to only buy the mono box when it came out in 2009 and bought the stereo CDs separately. I did buy the stereo box for my son last year but it was a valid one. I did fall victim to a fake Rolling Stones in mono box a few years ago but the tricky thing there was the official set sometimes lacks quality so it’s hard to know the difference. Exactly. It took a bit of investigative work to determine my Stones Mono box was legit. I was convinced it wasn't until I looked at the inner rings of the CDs and compared them on Discogs. Very shoddy work.
I watched this before I bought brand new through Amazon, and yet as soon as I opened the package I immediately knew it was a fake... can't even trust buying from a reputable source. Thanks for showing us what to look out for man!

Mike thank you, your videos just enlighten me. yesterday I bought the obvious fake one with the small green box on its header. Luckily the seller had claimed that it was original before, and with YOUR VIDEO, I can clarify that it was indeed a garbage. I completed my refund just after that. The thing is, almost all store at online shop in my country sell this counterfeit one. I'm pretty sure not few of them knew if it was fake considering twas all imported. I got one. The price was suspicious but I bought just to check it. When the box arrived and I got it out, I started to laugh. So many errors and cheap material that I started to laugh instead of being pissed.
Just curious. Does the quality of the cds sound different ? I know it’s not what we paid for but if we found a reproduction real cheap is the sound still there ? Thank you
Provided the discs aren't damaged by glue from the poor-quality of manufacturing and actually contain the correct mixes, the sound quality could technically be that of the official CDs. It would be like burning a CD-R using lossless files.
It seems not all fakes are created equal. As to the slip cover, while my fake does have the little square to the left of the T, it lacks most of the other telltales you describe. It doesn’t have the FBI warning and neither the shading of the green print nor the apple appear noticeably darker, albeit I don’t have a genuine article to compare to. In fact, aside from the little square, the only noticeable difference I can find from your genuine slip cover is that on mine the square around the “E Exempt from Classification” at the bottom is noticeably faded. As to the smell, mine smells just fine. As for the box itself, while the inner divider on mine appears to be of the less sturdy construction, the gloss is quite “sheenful”, the pull ribbons are securely fixed, there is no serration around the print edges, the half apple on the back is of much better quality than on your fake, and I do indeed find the website and trademark notice below the apple image on the back. In short, the only telltale on my box is the flimsy divider. I picked up my fake in Shanghai back in 2010; I knew it was a fake when I bought it (most everything in Shanghai was), but the genuine article wasn’t available. I’ve watched several videos on fake boxed sets now, and it would appear I managed to snag a much higher quality fake than those described in the videos I’ve seen. Oh, yeah, and my fake came with a reproduction of the Apple USB thrown in for free. I’m going to watch your video on the contents now.
I found a stereo box set at a flea market and I thought it was too good to be true and it was. I asked my dad if I can buy it he said sure so went up to the seller and before I bought I checked the cds and the printing on the box and I spotted that it was a fake by the apple being very dark and not light green. Looked at the Cd and it just felt cheap thank god I saw this video before I spent 87 dollars thanks man you saved my 87 bucks from scumbags

When I opened the box set, the middle seperator was crushed & avalanched down insde the box. Weak cardstok & adhesion to blame. Next, flimsey plastic sleeves crumpled over CDs crammed together inside CD album slots. Finally, the mis-spelling whuch shows as "YELLOW SUBMARINR" entiltling the CD disc. After watching these videos, I see more of Magical Mystery Mike's evidence existing on my set! 😡 I've messaged the seller for a refund.
Thanks for a great video. The box set is the obvious hole in my collection (despite having the 88 cd box set and Mobile Fidelity Labs box set and on and on and on. I'd be curious if the Mono box has been bootlegged. I'm kind of in the market for the Stereo-did not realize that boots were out there but like all things on EBay, rip off artists run free in the gutters
Thanks for sharing this. I too fell victim to this like you, but in the opposite way. I got the stereo box initially and passed on the mono. I kept hearing so much about the mono set about five years later I thought I should check eBay and see what it’s selling for. Boy was I shocked when I found it for $40! Picked that up quickly and when I received it something felt way off about it, especially compared to my official stereo set. Call me naive I guess as for the life of me I never imagined someone would knock off CD’s. The more I looked at it the more I was bothered and I went to the interwebs to see if anyone else was reporting fakes. Sure enough I found loads of info. Luckily eBay went to bat for me when I got no response from the seller. I got full refund and got to keep it also. It sits in the darkest corners of my basement collecting dust. I don’t know what to do with it. I don’t want to throw it out for some reason, but also loathe it to no end. Guess it’s a good reminder that a deal too good is that way for a reason. I did get an official one soon after, for a reasonable price too, but about three times what the fake was. My tip on it is to buy used and make sure the seller has loads of pictures of everything.
Dont throw away your fake box, because even this stuff counts in a collection (more like a curiosity than anything...how many people know who exist fake CD boxes going around?)
Good advice Dustin. Definitely check out pics of the actual item, for sure. I got a fake Mono too. It was an in person sale ... very cheap, but took a chance that maybe, just maybe. I learned my lesson too. No more.

I also went with the Mono box because of the mini-LPs (and because I hated the stereo box's design) and only ever bought Abbey Road and the white album via retail because they're my favorites. Fast forward several years, having learned how to make custom boxes in the past couple years, I decided to get the rest of the stereo CDs individually (including the DVD - found an authentic copy on eBay) and just build a custom box that matches the mono one, drawer and all. So I was examining the 2009 stereo CDs and I noticed that the print quality isn't as sharp as the mono ones. This is especially evident on Help! (US pressing) - the logos at the top of the front cover are printed with halftone dots instead of solid shapes and lines, like its mono counterpart. I panicked a bit and rewatched all three of your "fake" clips and mine seems to be the real thing. I went back and checked my copy of the white album (EU pressing) took out the poster, and compared it with the mono. The stereo poster looks "soft" as if it's printed from a low-res file. This is particularly evident on John's "naked" line art - stereo, blurry; mono, sharp. I wonder if this is the case with your 2009 stereo CDs?
fortunately for me, I actually got a real stereo box set the very first day of issue (09/09/09). even better is the fact that my version of the box contains all of the original studio albums and the Mini Documentaries DVD, plus as an added bonus there is also a copy of the 2-disc 09.09.09 Sampler CD that was also included as well. a little extra added feature
Wow, interesting. The DVD is still included, but this is the first I've heard that the Sampler was included. That's a nice item in itself. I scored a new copy for a decent price a few years ago. They get pricy, so hold on to that one!
Absolutely! I love The Beatles, and I would never settle for what that fake piece of sh*t tried to pass off as an official item by one of the greatest bands in all of pop music!
Great series. Question: what was the original retail price of the genuine article when originally released in 2009, and did it change much in subsequent years while the item was still available in retail stores?
I believe it was around $200, but it's been available for less for some time, and genuine used copies can be had for below $100. It's really worthwhile to seek out the real deal.

I picked up a set from a deceased estate here in Wellington New Zealand - the genuine article with all CDs still shrink-wrapped (although not the box), for about $60USD. At the same time I see one in my local record store here in Wellington NZ for sale for about twice that. So I was trying to work out if I could sell my unopened one for a bit more on our version of eBay than the store is asking, then buy the store one and bank the change. Not that there's a fortune involved. No harm in trying though 😀

Nice one Mike. Bootlegs are one thing. but buying these cheap and nasty counterfeits of official product is helping the counterceiters steal directly from the artist in question and that's really a really shitty way to repay the Beatles for all that amazing and life enhancing music they made. I can't afford a real mono or stereo box and I doubt that'll change now but I'd rather do without than help defraud my favourite band and the people they love(d)
I've given so much money to the Beatles grandkids trust funds that I don't feel one bit guilty that I bought one. Especially considering I have three legit issues of the Beatles of the stereo 2009 albums (one box, one loose, and a promo set in a Kool Krate)

The music on the discs is still the same though and the mini documentaries are still in tact so it wouldn't have been that bad of a purchase TBH the stereo set wasn't that special compared to the Mono set. Also your not even truly listening to the Beatles when you listen to them in stereo anyway aside from like maybe 4 albums.
There's merits to both. Mono is considered more authentic, but the stereo is fine for many of the albums. I'm glad the albums are being remixed for stereo.
@@The1uptriforce agreed. The disc themselves play fine. I ripped them just to make sure. I then deleted the files because I didn't need them. As for Mono vs. Stereo, it's debatable. They both were mixed back when the albums were released so all are real. It's not that all the Monos are better either. Beatles For Sale and A Hard Days Night are definitely better in Stereo for example. So is the White Album.
I've had a real stereo box for right around ten years. I bought the mono box and all the stereo albums piecemeal in 2009. I bought a Box of Vision and needed something to put in it. A dealer I've done business with had a counterfeit (at least I knew it was counterfeit) box and I bought it to fill the BOV up. I haven't watched the video yet but I'm fairly sure of the salient points you'll make
We spoke about the package flaws, In which I agree (terrible). But What about the disks themselves, are they flawed too, does all this fake stuff affect the sound??
Sorry about the delayed response. When the proper transfers are used, they sound identical; however, there’s no way of knowing what sources were used. In addition, the cheep packing often results in glue transfer onto the discs, so they don’t play properly. When you can play ‘em, I suppose the sound is “ok”, sure. But is that really the way you want this music presented? Not me!
Does anyone know why the Rubber Soul 1965 mix issued in the Beatles CD mono box 2009 has more reverbe than the original vynil UK first pressing 1965 mono?
@@MagicalMysteryMike I was very surprised when I got thar first pressing how very dry the sound is. Dryer than the studio itself, I would say. Its like recorded in a dry living room. Wonderfully compact and direct but very dry.
Do you happen to know if the japanese edition of the black box (with the large OBI strip on the side) has been bootlegged also? I just bought a sealed copy on eBay and i'm a little concerned about it.
I brought my stereo box set out while watching this video....JUST to be sure. Mine is real. Mine sounds fantastic. I did get really pissed off a few years ago when I'd mistakenly bought a fake MONO set. NONE of the CDs played, the covers were coming apart, not even all of them had the plastic inner sleeve. It was bullshit, BUT I reported it to Ebay and the seller was so apologetic. He refunded me and said he had no idea he had a fake box. I question why he didn't examine it when he acquired it, but at least he gave me my money back and apologized.
So many fakes out there of both the stereo and mono boxes. Crazy! Glad your check went the right way on your Stereo box. Gotta dust that thing off every now and again.
My Beatles Stereo Box is the legit copy and I loved it ever since. I even ripped it on iTunes (Apple Music) at 320 kbps AAC with VBR and they sound so good. Glad my mother has bought it on Amazon after the release date of the 2009 Stereo Remasters. Can you do a video on the Mini Docs and how to access them on Morden computers? Thanks.
While I have the mini-documentary disc, I’ve never opened it. However, I also have the Apple USB drive, and both the software and the videos play just fine under Linux’s Windows emulation layer on my desktop. The video files on the thumb drive are in the /Data/ folder, and appear to be of type “Flash video”. The media player VLC plays them directly without issue for me. However, the resolution is a bit low by modern standards.
I didn't get a stereo box set, instead in my case I got a counterfeit version of the Abbey Road CD remaster released on the same day as the box set from a trip to Alberta (yes, I'm Canadian, I live in Ontario) and bought one from the FYE in a mall there. Up until now I didn't know it was fake until I looked it up on Discogs. I have no idea how it ended up there, as it wasn't even a used copy, but beware, those exist too.
@@MagicalMysteryMike Also, it had the FBI anti-piracy warning and said it was "made in the USA" so I think its a counterfeit of the US release specifically.
@@MagicalMysteryMike The main giveaway was the printing and CD matrix, and the CD matrix was literally the fucking barcode (not the barcode itself but the numbers) and had no SID codes for either mastering or moulding. The printing was pretty blurry but the apple was printed "correctly" in some cases (the disc did and the front, but not the inside)
I went for the IN MONO box in 2009. It wasn’t until 2015 that I got the Stereo Box. I purchased the fake box trying to get a deal on a 2nd set to use in The Beatles Box of Vision, so I knew immediately it was a fake. I took a chance and got what I paid for. Fortunately, I was refunded my money and got to keep the fake to use in these videos showing what to avoid.
I just bought a used set that doesnt have ANY of these errors, but the image quality seems slightly sub par, and the digipaks are a bit less glossy than my individually purchased copy of Let It Be. Im scared the set isnt authentic, but i dont know.

I have both the counterfeit and the legit. I was wondering why the price I saw for this was so low when I bought it off eBay. I had suspicions immediately upon delivery. Anyways I picked up the legitimate one at Walmart using my discount and have kept the counterfeit. I gotta tell ya the fakes sound okay thru the car stereo.

Sounds like you scored a legit box set ... good for you! :) As far as the counterfeit process, it's clear it was all about getting as many made as possible to flood the market and make money off these knock-offs. No quality control, so anything was possible.

First off, I am very sorry for your loss. As far as an official box set unopened, $100-150 is probably correct. No way anyone is paying $700 for one. They're anything but sparse. Even much over $100 could be hard to get as there are just so many deals out there. Of course, a lot of them are these fakes.
How brutal could those fakers ever be? Stealing the oppertunity from the company with those authentic CD collection of the beatles to make any money off,i feel bad for those beatle fans who suckered into this and trought to buy the legit version,ouch.

99.9% sure you’ll get the genuine item. Let me know. You know what to look for. Also, I’m curious to know if the discs are still made in the US. I noticed the other day at a retail store that the stereo CD digipaks are now being made in Mexico.
@@MagicalMysteryMike It is the real set, that was a sigh of relief. It says they are made in the USA still on the back of the box and on the digipaks. So anyone looking to get this set for not that bad of a price, should try amazon, but make sure the seller is amazon themselves.
I'm no way defending these counterfeits but the reason most people bought them is because they we're a damn sight cheaper. I lot of people who bought the counterfeit mono and stereo box knew they were counterfeit but bought them because they were cheap.
The stereo CDs were all sold separately. For the price of the fake, someone could have picked up a few of the authorized albums, and got them one at a time thereafter. The fake is no substitute for the real product. Besides, I worry about Paul and Ringo. Need to be sure those guys are well taken care of.
@@daytripper9222 I'm sure you weren't but I do know a lot of people who did buy the sets just because they we're cheap. If any new quality item is offered new, for a far cheaper cost than most people would be suspicious.

So Mike I left you a long comment but I it didn't take for some reason but I'll keep this really short. I ordered both box sets in 2017 and I got screwed on both of them. Of course they were from China. I should have been suspicious when I ordered them and they were $55 a piece. When they arrived they were both pure crap. The White album set on the stereo CD started off with birthday. Disc two started off with Back in the USSR. Songs on the mono box set skipped. The labels on the CDs were so dark you couldn't even read the track list. The person that left a comment on here saying what does it matter it's not the Beatles if you're listening to them in stereo is out of his mind.

You do realize that there are those who CAN’T afford the legitimate box set, even to this day, right? And, I am one. (And, remember, the artists DO NOT SEE financial gain from sales of used products either.)
And, the Darker Apple DOES NOT necessarily mean it’s a fake. Legitimate Apple pressings have used dark Apple labels as well, especially for the 2019 Giles Martin remix of Abbey Road. So, you can’t always go by the Apple.
I can’t afford many things in life, yet I don’t think others should not have quality available because it’s not available to me. Plus, I don’t mean to sound trivial here, but this box came out in 2009. If a true fan really wanted this official box, surely it could have been budgeted for by saving a minuscule amount each month until able to get the real deal to own and enjoy for a lifetime.
Forgive me for disagreeing with your product assessment but l have the counterfiet box...the CDs sound GREAT! (l have a Bose system). The box itself is not flimsy and most certainly doesn't smell like urine! Personally l could care less about a few misprints or faded colors; the important factor (to me at least) is the music itself.
I get what you are saying, but I stand by my assessment. Also, if you care about the music, why not do it right and have an official item that funnels the proceeds to entities that will keep providing the music we love?
There are lots of good condition used sets for offer on various sites, but there are so many of the fakes out there too that it's easy to get duped. That's why I made these videos as a reminder to keep an eye out if interested in this box set.
When they play and actually have the correct files, it’s a standard digital copy. The issue is, many of the discs are destroyed by the cheap glue use on the sleeve, and sometimes the wrong mixes are used. Just a mess all around.
The thing that enrages me MORE than the fake box set being sold to unsuspecting people is how the online shopping company allows people to keep merchandise and get a refund. This encourages people to demand refunds for anything and everything they purchase online. All of us pay for this stupidity. The maker of this video is one of millions who owes us money.
Honestly, I purchased one of the box sets this guy is calling "FAKE" . The thing is, I got it DIRECTLY FROM THE BEATLES WEBSITE in 2009... This guy is crazy. My copy that he's calling fake, sounds killer and plays and looks fine. It sounds great. Pretty sure he's just an idiot trying to get youtube views.He's obviously unfamiliar that cds have MANY MANY pressing runs. just like LPs did... just cause you have a second or third run, doesn't mean its fake... this guy is just ill-informed and probably just looking for a reason to feel important.
What “This guy” is calling “FAKE” is 100% counterfeit trash. This is not a later run of an official product. It’s fake. I’m sorry you got ripped off, but you did if you received what I show in this video. If you think otherwise, I encourage you to do your own research. I’m confident anything close to what I show in this video is pure garbage.

Mike thank you, your videos just enlighten me. yesterday I bought the obvious fake one with the small green box on its header. Luckily the seller had claimed that it was original before, and with YOUR VIDEO, I can clarify that it was indeed a garbage. I completed my refund just after that.
The thing is, almost all store at online shop in my country sell this counterfeit one. I'm pretty sure not few of them knew if it was fake considering twas all imported. Thanks Mike, you're legend, and your videos are insightful and hilarious at the same time

I got one. The price was suspicious but I bought just to check it. When the box arrived and I got it out, I started to laugh. So many errors and cheap material that I started to laugh instead of being pissed.

Provided the discs aren't damaged by glue from the poor-quality of manufacturing and actually contain the correct mixes, the sound quality could technically be that of the official CDs. It would be like burning a CD-R using lossless files.
It seems not all fakes are created equal.
As to the slip cover, while my fake does have the little square to the left of the T, it lacks most of the other telltales you describe. It doesn’t have the FBI warning and neither the shading of the green print nor the apple appear noticeably darker, albeit I don’t have a genuine article to compare to. In fact, aside from the little square, the only noticeable difference I can find from your genuine slip cover is that on mine the square around the “E Exempt from Classification” at the bottom is noticeably faded.
As to the smell, mine smells just fine.
As for the box itself, while the inner divider on mine appears to be of the less sturdy construction, the gloss is quite “sheenful”, the pull ribbons are securely fixed, there is no serration around the print edges, the half apple on the back is of much better quality than on your fake, and I do indeed find the website and trademark notice below the apple image on the back. In short, the only telltale on my box is the flimsy divider.
I picked up my fake in Shanghai back in 2010; I knew it was a fake when I bought it (most everything in Shanghai was), but the genuine article wasn’t available. I’ve watched several videos on fake boxed sets now, and it would appear I managed to snag a much higher quality fake than those described in the videos I’ve seen.
Oh, yeah, and my fake came with a reproduction of the Apple USB thrown in for free.

I found a stereo box set at a flea market and I thought it was too good to be true and it was. I asked my dad if I can buy it he said sure so went up to the seller and before I bought I checked the cds and the printing on the box and I spotted that it was a fake by the apple being very dark and not light green. Looked at the Cd and it just felt cheap thank god I saw this video before I spent 87 dollars thanks man you saved my 87 bucks from scumbags

Before seeing these videos, I ordered a box set.
It was delivered yesterday. When I opened the box set, the middle seperator was crushed & avalanched down insde the box. Weak cardstok & adhesion to blame. Next, flimsey plastic sleeves crumpled over CDs crammed together inside CD album slots. Finally, the mis-spelling whuch shows as "YELLOW SUBMARINR" entiltling the CD disc.
After watching these videos, I see more of Magical Mystery Mike's evidence existing on my set! 😡 I've messaged the seller for a refund.

Steve, the Mono box has absolutely been bootlegged. I have one of those too. After that, I swore off shady deals.
The difference between the fake and the real one is the ink and color of the box set.

Thanks for sharing this. I too fell victim to this like you, but in the opposite way. I got the stereo box initially and passed on the mono. I kept hearing so much about the mono set about five years later I thought I should check eBay and see what it’s selling for. Boy was I shocked when I found it for $40!
Picked that up quickly and when I received it something felt way off about it, especially compared to my official stereo set. Call me naive I guess as for the life of me I never imagined someone would knock off CD’s. The more I looked at it the more I was bothered and I went to the interwebs to see if anyone else was reporting fakes. Sure enough I found loads of info.
Luckily eBay went to bat for me when I got no response from the seller. I got full refund and got to keep it also. It sits in the darkest corners of my basement collecting dust. I don’t know what to do with it. I don’t want to throw it out for some reason, but also loathe it to no end. Guess it’s a good reminder that a deal too good is that way for a reason.
I did get an official one soon after, for a reasonable price too, but about three times what the fake was. My tip on it is to buy used and make sure the seller has loads of pictures of everything.

Good advice Dustin. Definitely check out pics of the actual item, for sure. I got a fake Mono too. It was an in person sale ... very cheap, but took a chance that maybe, just maybe. I learned my lesson too. No more.

I haven't heard of vinyl issues as widespread as the CD box set issues.
I also went with the Mono box because of the mini-LPs (and because I hated the stereo box's design) and only ever bought Abbey Road and the white album via retail because they're my favorites. Fast forward several years, having learned how to make custom boxes in the past couple years, I decided to get the rest of the stereo CDs individually (including the DVD - found an authentic copy on eBay) and just build a custom box that matches the mono one, drawer and all.
So I was examining the 2009 stereo CDs and I noticed that the print quality isn't as sharp as the mono ones. This is especially evident on Help! (US pressing) - the logos at the top of the front cover are printed with halftone dots instead of solid shapes and lines, like its mono counterpart. I panicked a bit and rewatched all three of your "fake" clips and mine seems to be the real thing.
I went back and checked my copy of the white album (EU pressing) took out the poster, and compared it with the mono. The stereo poster looks "soft" as if it's printed from a low-res file. This is particularly evident on John's "naked" line art - stereo, blurry; mono, sharp.
I wonder if this is the case with your 2009 stereo CDs?

fortunately for me, I actually got a real stereo box set the very first day of issue (09/09/09). even better is the fact that my version of the box contains all of the original studio albums and the Mini Documentaries DVD, plus as an added bonus there is also a copy of the 2-disc 09.09.09 Sampler CD that was also included as well. a little extra added feature
Wow, interesting. The DVD is still included, but this is the first I've heard that the Sampler was included. That's a nice item in itself. I scored a new copy for a decent price a few years ago. They get pricy, so hold on to that one!

Great series. Question: what was the original retail price of the genuine article when originally released in 2009, and did it change much in subsequent years while the item was still available in retail stores?
I believe it was around $200, but it's been available for less for some time, and genuine used copies can be had for below $100. It's really worthwhile to seek out the real deal.

I picked up a set from a deceased estate here in Wellington New Zealand - the genuine article with all CDs still shrink-wrapped (although not the box), for about $60USD. At the same time I see one in my local record store here in Wellington NZ for sale for about twice that. So I was trying to work out if I could sell my unopened one for a bit more on our version of eBay than the store is asking, then buy the store one and bank the change. Not that there's a fortune involved. No harm in trying though 😀

Bootlegs are one thing. but buying these cheap and nasty counterfeits of official product is helping the counterceiters steal directly from the artist in question and that's really a really shitty way to repay the Beatles for all that amazing and life enhancing music they made. I can't afford a real mono or stereo box and I doubt that'll change now but I'd rather do without than help defraud my favourite band and the people they love(d)

The music on the discs is still the same though and the mini documentaries are still in tact so it wouldn't have been that bad of a purchase TBH the stereo set wasn't that special compared to the Mono set. Also your not even truly listening to the Beatles when you listen to them in stereo anyway aside from like maybe 4 albums.

There's merits to both. Mono is considered more authentic, but the stereo is fine for many of the albums. I'm glad the albums are being remixed for stereo.
@@The1uptriforce agreed. The disc themselves play fine. I ripped them just to make sure. I then deleted the files because I didn't need them. As for Mono vs. Stereo, it's debatable. They both were mixed back when the albums were released so all are real. It's not that all the Monos are better either. Beatles For Sale and A Hard Days Night are definitely better in Stereo for example. So is the White Album.
Some people have mentioned that the white outline that goes round the Front of the box is slightly off center, as well.

On my stereo boxed set fake, the outline doesn’t appear noticeably off-center, either on the slip cover or the box itself.
I've had a real stereo box for right around ten years. I bought the mono box and all the stereo albums piecemeal in 2009. I bought a Box of Vision and needed something to put in it. A dealer I've done business with had a counterfeit (at least I knew it was counterfeit) box and I bought it to fill the BOV up. I haven't watched the video yet but I'm fairly sure of the salient points you'll make

Sorry about the delayed response. When the proper transfers are used, they sound identical; however, there’s no way of knowing what sources were used. In addition, the cheep packing often results in glue transfer onto the discs, so they don’t play properly. When you can play ‘em, I suppose the sound is “ok”, sure. But is that really the way you want this music presented? Not me!
Does anyone know why the Rubber Soul 1965 mix issued in the Beatles CD mono box 2009 has more reverbe than the original vynil UK first pressing 1965 mono?
I suppose getting it exact is a difficult thing. Not sure if this was a conscious effort or it just panned out that way.
@@MagicalMysteryMike I was very surprised when I got thar first pressing how very dry the sound is. Dryer than the studio itself, I would say. Its like recorded in a dry living room. Wonderfully compact and direct but very dry.
Do you happen to know if the japanese edition of the black box (with the large OBI strip on the side) has been bootlegged also? I just bought a sealed copy on eBay and i'm a little concerned about it.
I haven't seen that edition, unfortunately, so I can't say for sure. Just look at it carefully when it arrives. You'll be able to tell.

I brought my stereo box set out while watching this video....JUST to be sure. Mine is real. Mine sounds fantastic. I did get really pissed off a few years ago when I'd mistakenly bought a fake MONO set. NONE of the CDs played, the covers were coming apart, not even all of them had the plastic inner sleeve. It was bullshit, BUT I reported it to Ebay and the seller was so apologetic. He refunded me and said he had no idea he had a fake box. I question why he didn't examine it when he acquired it, but at least he gave me my money back and apologized.
So many fakes out there of both the stereo and mono boxes. Crazy! Glad your check went the right way on your Stereo box. Gotta dust that thing off every now and again.

My Beatles Stereo Box is the legit copy and I loved it ever since. I even ripped it on iTunes (Apple Music) at 320 kbps AAC with VBR and they sound so good. Glad my mother has bought it on Amazon after the release date of the 2009 Stereo Remasters. Can you do a video on the Mini Docs and how to access them on Morden computers? Thanks.

While I have the mini-documentary disc, I’ve never opened it. However, I also have the Apple USB drive, and both the software and the videos play just fine under Linux’s Windows emulation layer on my desktop.
The video files on the thumb drive are in the /Data/ folder, and appear to be of type “Flash video”. The media player VLC plays them directly without issue for me. However, the resolution is a bit low by modern standards.

I didn't get a stereo box set, instead in my case I got a counterfeit version of the Abbey Road CD remaster released on the same day as the box set from a trip to Alberta (yes, I'm Canadian, I live in Ontario) and bought one from the FYE in a mall there. Up until now I didn't know it was fake until I looked it up on Discogs. I have no idea how it ended up there, as it wasn't even a used copy, but beware, those exist too.

@@MagicalMysteryMike The main giveaway was the printing and CD matrix, and the CD matrix was literally the fucking barcode (not the barcode itself but the numbers) and had no SID codes for either mastering or moulding. The printing was pretty blurry but the apple was printed "correctly" in some cases (the disc did and the front, but not the inside)
When did you get the fake box set and when did you end up getting the real box set?
I went for the IN MONO box in 2009. It wasn’t until 2015 that I got the Stereo Box. I purchased the fake box trying to get a deal on a 2nd set to use in The Beatles Box of Vision, so I knew immediately it was a fake. I took a chance and got what I paid for. Fortunately, I was refunded my money and got to keep the fake to use in these videos showing what to avoid.

It's a dub of the 09's, but the CDs sometimes skip or have glue on them from the sleeves, which interferes with play.

I just bought a used set that doesnt have ANY of these errors, but the image quality seems slightly sub par, and the digipaks are a bit less glossy than my individually purchased copy of Let It Be. Im scared the set isnt authentic, but i dont know.

I have both the counterfeit and the legit. I was wondering why the price I saw for this was so low when I bought it off eBay. I had suspicions immediately upon delivery. Anyways I picked up the legitimate one at Walmart using my discount and have kept the counterfeit. I gotta tell ya the fakes sound okay thru the car stereo.
When they actually play, I suppose they’re as good as a CD-R copy. I still wouldn’t settle for a fake over the real deal.

First off, I am very sorry for your loss. As far as an official box set unopened, $100-150 is probably correct. No way anyone is paying $700 for one. They're anything but sparse. Even much over $100 could be hard to get as there are just so many deals out there. Of course, a lot of them are these fakes.

I'm no way defending these counterfeits but the reason most people bought them is because they we're a damn sight cheaper. I lot of people who bought the counterfeit mono and stereo box knew they were counterfeit but bought them because they were cheap.
Well I sure as hell wasn't one of them.
The stereo CDs were all sold separately. For the price of the fake, someone could have picked up a few of the authorized albums, and got them one at a time thereafter. The fake is no substitute for the real product. Besides, I worry about Paul and Ringo. Need to be sure those guys are well taken care of.

So Mike I left you a long comment but I it didn't take for some reason but I'll keep this really short. I ordered both box sets in 2017 and I got screwed on both of them. Of course they were from China. I should have been suspicious when I ordered them and they were $55 a piece. When they arrived they were both pure crap. The White album set on the stereo CD started off with birthday. Disc two started off with Back in the USSR. Songs on the mono box set skipped. The labels on the CDs were so dark you couldn't even read the track list. You do realize that there are those who CAN’T afford the legitimate box set, even to this day, right? And, I am one. (And, remember, the artists DO NOT SEE financial gain from sales of used products either.)
And, the Darker Apple DOES NOT necessarily mean it’s a fake. Legitimate Apple pressings have used dark Apple labels as well, especially for the 2019 Giles Martin remix of Abbey Road. So, you can’t always go by the Apple.
I can’t afford many things in life, yet I don’t think others should not have quality available because it’s not available to me. Plus, I don’t mean to sound trivial here, but this box came out in 2009. If a true fan really wanted this official box, surely it could have been budgeted for by saving a minuscule amount each month until able to get the real deal to own and enjoy for a lifetime.
Forgive me for disagreeing with your product assessment but l have the counterfiet box...the CDs sound GREAT! (l have a Bose system). The box itself is not flimsy and most certainly doesn't smell like urine! Personally l could care less about a few misprints or faded colors; the important factor (to me at least) is the music itself.
I get what you are saying, but I stand by my assessment. Also, if you care about the music, why not do it right and have an official item that funnels the proceeds to entities that will keep providing the music we love?

I'm basic if I'd save up around 150€ for god damn CD's that cost me normally 295 which is already a rip off?
There are lots of good condition used sets for offer on various sites, but there are so many of the fakes out there too that it's easy to get duped. That's why I made these videos as a reminder to keep an eye out if interested in this box set.

Most importantly, How does it sound?
When they play and actually have the correct files, it’s a standard digital copy. The issue is, many of the discs are destroyed by the cheap glue use on the sleeve, and sometimes the wrong mixes are used. Just a mess all around.
You should have bought the albums one by one before 2009. Please Please Me through Help! sound a whole lot better in mono than stereo

The thing that enrages me MORE than the fake box set being sold to unsuspecting people is how the online shopping company allows people to keep merchandise and get a refund. This encourages people to demand refunds for anything and everything they purchase online. All of us pay for this stupidity. The maker of this video is one of millions who owes us money.

Honestly, I purchased one of the box sets this guy is calling "FAKE" . The thing is, I got it DIRECTLY FROM THE BEATLES WEBSITE in 2009... This guy is crazy. My copy that he's calling fake, sounds killer and plays and looks fine. It sounds great. Pretty sure he's just an idiot trying to get youtube views.He's obviously unfamiliar that cds have MANY MANY pressing runs. just like LPs did... just cause you have a second or third run, doesn't mean its fake... this guy is just ill-informed and probably just looking for a reason to feel important.
What “This guy” is calling “FAKE” is 100% counterfeit trash. This is not a later run of an official product. It’s fake. I’m sorry you got ripped off, but you did if you received what I show in this video. If you think otherwise, I encourage you to do your own research.
