In '79... my then girlfriend lived near Ann Wilson's house in Enetai Park on Lake Washington. Neighbors and girlfriend invited to a BBQ at Ann's house. Sat next to Ann, with many Beatle tunes and more, with a guitar... and she MOVED MY HAIR ! Have met Ann and Nancy many times. So gooood.
Welcome aboard, youngsters! My brothers and I have been big fans of Heart since the late '70s. Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful, beautiful voices of any female singer.
The band was great. The sisters were part of the band. As a matter of fact - Ann was not in the original Heart and Nancy joined a couple of years after Ann.
You can't beat these 2 sisters on acoustic and one of the greatest rock voices ever. You should listen to another of their beautiful songs, "Dog and Butterfly."
Ann Wilson is a ROCK Goddess and Nancy kills it on guitar, even today (in their 60's)....They got a lot of their musical influence from LED Zeppelin...They did the best cover of Stairway To Heaven, in front of the band, at the Kennedy Honors back in 2012...a must see!
This album hit Canada like a tidal wave. We couldn't go anywhere without hearing it played constantly, but we never objected to hearing it again and again and again.
Nancy Wilson, blonde sister, opened the song with the acoustic guitar and Ann Wilson dark hair is lead singer and does play flute and guitar and piano as well I believe. I lived in Seattle in the 1980s and 90s and all the grunge bands loved The Wilson sisters. In the early yrs all the guys loved them in high school. We would put out our huge speakers and our 8 track tapes and blast away... Pure freedom in the 70s...
The very first concert I went to was to see April Wine in 1975 The opening band was someone nobody knew...YET... It was Heart...Blew Me Away...I didn't realize till they became stars the true serendipity of that moment...I tell that story alot
This tribute to Led Zeppelin is the epitome of how good Heart is. No other singer could kill it like Ann Wilson. Do your best to seek out this video of the Kennedy center honors
🦋 Yeah you guys could react to some "In This Moment","Veruca Salt", "Evenesence","Otep", Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, Pink, Fergi, The Cranberries, Alanis Morissette, Melanie Martinez, Lady Gaga, Orianthi, Aleshia Keys, No Doubt, Zz Ward, Adele, The Dirty Earth, Dorothy, Spiral Guru, more Stevie Nicks & Heart of course... Any of these bands would be great to incorporate. Into the mix of music you cover. Also Guys You Should check Out "Hearts" live performance at the Kennedy Center Honoring Led Zeppelin with their cover of "Stairway to Heaven" it's an Amazing performance. While they Watched. Could you imagine the nervous feeling performing in front of an Idol. Such as Led Zeppelin.
I'm the same way. I know a lot of music, but mostly on the surface; I may do good at Rock and Roll Jeopardy. But I may suck. That's what I love about music; there is always something new to discover. Who I do know very much about are The Beatles and Pink Floyd - they are somehow constantly in my psyche and I pretty much know every fact about them. Not bragging but everyone has a passion somewhere within themselves waiting to come out.
born in 1961; there where 2 bands, my puberty, yes Heart and yes ABBA(?) and now Floor Janssen solo and Night(heart)wish. Even travelled to Sweden buying solo records from al the ABBA members.
Hello and T.Y. For doing Heart. Devil Delight might be a great one for your u next. Their aim is true with being from a musical family in Canada. Mistral Wind is another journey besides Ann being called the best female Zepplin singer with that proof in the pudding at Albert Hall. Ann brought tears to Mr . Plant also because The Deceased Drummer Johns son appeared after tricking them he couldn’t perform. Amazing musicians this band. The Sylvan Song and others never got the credit they deserve. Sincerely grateful Rhonda…🏹 son played as well bringing the house down.
Omg for real the off beat drumming of John B is one favorite now blessed with Jason! Neil P. Then the Amazing D.Carey. It’s crazy I don’t play polyrhythmic drums. So Tribal. I adore guitar and voice. 🏹🇩🇪
Ann Wilson, as much as any singer from that era, still has a great set of pipes. Most singers start to lose their voice in later years and often have to change the song's key.
Great video. FYI: Fleetwood Mac and Jefferson Airplane have female lead vocalists. Those 2 were off the top of my head, and I'm a little stoned right now.
This is my favorite album of all time. The music takes you on a journey from which you never return. When you said disco... that WAS a disco style beat, right at that point. All good music "borrows" a little of the best of other genres. Funky , rockin', sexy and JAMMIN"!
Lots lots of bangers in the Heart universe and you will have fun going through them. Try Magic Man, Barracuda, Heartless, Magazine, I've Got The Music In Me, Mother Earth Blues, Straight On, Bébé Le Strange, Even It Up, Rockin' Heaven Down, and others from their first band layout before the 80's change up.
They've got some great bangers after the 80s change up too, but they were never released as singles and there was definitely more commercial material on those records. The title cut to Bad Animals and songs like If Looks Could Kill, Wild Child, Black on Black, etc were great hard rock tunes.
Just as a reminder, you haven't yet done their biggest hit, (Barracuda), and there is a great live version on youtube. The guitar solo is highly underrated as is the drumming and bass playing.
~ Also, would you please do a review/reaction of the group "Ambrosia" - (That's How much I Feel - Holding On To Yesterday - You're The Only Woman, etc.) They're great and you'll love their vocals and harmonies! ♥ Plus, "Emerson, Lake & Palmer's" "From the Beginning" . 2 members were classically trained and it really shows on this cut. (wikipedia - 'With nine RIAA-certified gold record albums in the US,and an estimated 48 million records sold worldwide, they are one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock groups of the 1970s.)
There are probably much more female lead vocalists in rock bands today than there were back then, actually. It’s the opposite of a lost art-there’s a whole rock subgenre that has sprung up around it: Occult rock, aka witch rock, which was a genre started by the ‘60s band Coven (the first overtly Satanic band and also the band that introduced the Sign of the Horns 🤘 to the musical world) and revived in the ‘00s. Coven’s frontwoman, Jinx Dawson, is still leading the band today, by the way, 55 years later. The majority of female-fronted rock bands today probably don’t belong to this genre, but I just wanted to mention it because it’s a passion of mine. I could recommend so many female-fronted 21st century rock bands to you. My top favorites are Thundermother (which is actually an all-female band), Jess and the Ancient Ones, The Oath, The Bridge City Sinners (technically not rock, but they do rock, anyway), Blood Ceremony, and Twin Temple. And some others I’m particularly fond of are Wucan, Purson, Rosalie Cunningham, The Babes (actually male-fronted, but the band is half-female and has a very badass female drummer so I couldn’t resist the urge to include them), Heavy Tiger (an all-female band), Jane Lee Hooker (another all-female band), The Surfrajettes (an all-female instrumental band), The Devil’s Blood, Molassess, Honeymoon Disease, Hot Breath, MaidaVale (also an all-female band), Blues Pills, and Thunderpussy (an all-lesbian band). That’s twenty bands, so I’ll stop there for now. Edit: Okay, I know I said I’d stop at twenty, but I feel too strong of a need to mention Jess By the Lake, too. So let’s just call it 21 bands for the 21st century-that should work. Edit 2: I’ll have to add the Laura Cox band to make it an actual 21 female-fronted 21st century bands. Now I’ll stop, lol.
Beautiful intro by Nancy Wilson. Ann Wilson wrote this when she was 16 years old about living with the Viet Nam war. Please react to: All live from the 70's because sometimes they're over produced. "Straight On" "Magic Man" Good luck with your channel!
Since you guys specifically mentioned wanting to explore more deep cuts, I'd recommend Heart's "Mistral Wind" in particular. I once read that Nancy Wilson was quoted as saying something like "Mistral Wind is probably the ultimate Heart song".
I think 'Alone' is their best song. The power of Ann's voice, and her clock-stopping beauty, is just the best! And Nancy having relations with her guitar ain't too shabby either! 😍😘

If you're looking for bands with female singers, try Janis Joplin, the Pretenders, Pat Benatar, Linda Ronstadt, and Fleetwood Mac. That should get you started.
If you want some 21st century female-fronted rock bands, too, I’d recommend Thundermother, Jess and the Ancient Ones, The Oath, Blood Ceremony, Twin Temple, Wucan, Purson, Jess By the Lake, Heavy Tiger, Jane Lee Hooker, The Surfrajettes, The Devil’s Blood, Blues Pills, Honeymoon Disease, Hot Breath, and MaidaVale, for starters. I would let either of them go crazy on me and then die happy. Awesome talented ladies and Gentlemen. The song is about Michael Derosier, a former drummer and boyfriend of Ann, lucky dude. They mostly rock until mid eighties but an early song dog and butterfly is beautiful. They did put out some great mid 80s material.
Did he just say disco over Heart?! Wowwwww. You never ever mix up 70’s rock and disco. They both are famously popular in their own right and are never confused to be one or the other.
I don't see Barracuda coming up as a recommendation, that's a must song by Heart. It's about how back in the 70's a magazine article wrote that the 2 sisters were lovers. Going to see Heart play this summer at Fenway with Journey, Cheap Trick & Def Leppard, can't wait!

Heart kicked all kinds of ass. The Wilson sisters were straight up rock legends.
The Wilson Sisters. Ann is in the top female rock vocalists of all time
This is not disco. It's rock, and Ann is the queen of rock.
Indeed, it's the opposite of disco. In every way.
They WERE Rock until they fired the Band that played that bitchin music. After that, they became a sloppy garage band. ERROR on Ann and Nancy
@@kenperk9854 Guess the oinker brothers should have kept their pants on.
Yes, yes it is rock.
This is a solid rock tune, but that is unquestionably a disco drumbeat. Lots of rock bands used it at the time.
“ you gave me life with your sweet flowin’ love” wooooo!! Heart rocks!
In '79... my then girlfriend lived near Ann Wilson's house in Enetai Park on Lake Washington.
Neighbors and girlfriend invited to a BBQ at Ann's house. Sat next to Ann, with many Beatle tunes and more, with a guitar... and she MOVED MY HAIR ! Have met Ann and Nancy many times. So gooood.
That’s Nancyon the intro guitar. Highly underrated guitar player.

True, usually they are not given the credit they deserve.
Ann and Nancy were very much the front women but they had a phenomenal band. ❤
Look up their version of "Stairway to Heaven" they played for the Led Zeppelin induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
You gotta see em play this live! They are incredible live
Not anymore they aren't.

That’s Nancy Wilson playing the acoustic guitar in the beginning….for those who care….
Both sisters are so talented, and the band is great too!!
You can't beat these 2 sisters on acoustic and one of the greatest rock voices ever. You should listen to another of their beautiful songs, "Dog and Butterfly."
70s Heart and their World class band were Fantabulous ! Then They fired the band and became a glorified garage band.
You guys have to here Dreamboat Annie and Dog and Butterfly. Absolute poetry!
Love this song!
One of the BEST CLASSIC ROCK lps of all time
That is Nancy Wilson playing the guitar at the beginning
Ann Wilson has a powerful but also clear and super seductive voice.
And you are listening to one of the greatest rock bands EVER! They complimented the 2 girls very well!.
Absolutely true and very versatile as well. Thinking Dog and Butterfly 🦋 ❤
Love the review! Heart was a great band. The Wilson sisters are remarkable.
Heart is from my home town love them

HEART did rock that song. There's videos of them doing this tune live.
Magic Man by Heart is a great one too!
You guys are in for a ride!
Still stands the test of time, best of the 70's for sure. No one hotter back then

Heart had a great drummer!
when I was a kid back in the 70's, I spent all my money from my part time job on concerts and albums, I have seen so many performers, rock and roll!!!
Must see them Live. To see Nancy play/pounding her acoustic guitar is magical.
Heart does stairway to heaven at the Kennedy center honors when they honor led zeppelin. It's epic!
You guys remind me of my college buddies listening to fresh LPs and discussing it. Good times. And that was in 1975.

"Kick it out" & "Even it up" "Straight on for you" are their harder songs.
I wore their albums OUT. The Wilson sisters showed the world females could rock hard.
Vixen- Edge of a broken heart. An All Girl Band!! Not a lot of other hits but this one was big in the 80’s!! As if you couldn’t tell by their outfits!

Anne Wilson was still involved with "Magic Man" Mike Fisher when this was made (to answer the question you posed).

Great comment! The only thing is the song is about Michael Fisher, Roger Fisher's brother who was the band's manager back then.
@@fortch17 No - It's about a person trying to forget about their worries in a night of passion. The song "Magic Man" is about Mike Fisher.
