The bass player, John Mc Vie, and the drummer, Mick Fleetwood, have been playing together since the late 60s, so yeah, they're tight.
My mom loved this song so much that she named me after it, been a Fleetwood Mac fan my whole life.
A good Welsh name
Nice Name!
I was in 1st grade when this came out..by the time I graduated high school in 1986, I was going to school with several girls named “Rhiannon”…it’s a beautiful name and song!
You were so lucky that you were born when you were and your mum had great taste. Lucky you weren't a Britney.
Oh girl, you have a Rhiannon sister :) I also named my daughter after this song -- BUT also for the Welsh Goddess that Rhiannon is. The story of Rhiannon is so tragic and then is so sweet.... Tell your Mom you have a Rhiannon sister! :)
The Chain is what you must listen to next from Fleetwood Mac ♡
Stevie Nicks wrote both of those songs - Dreams and Rhiannon. Genius. She launched a solo career too in the early 80's because she was writing so many songs (as were the others), that she didn't have an outlet for. She was (is) really successful solo as well. Obviously. Steve Nicks rulez all.
I think John McVie's bass line in this song carries the driving undertone thats so infectious....
Wife Speaking,,,Soooo Beautiful...Totally agree about Lindsay Buckingham
Rhiannon is a figure from Welsh mythology. The album was called "Fleetwood Mac" because they basically reinvented itself at this point in their career - they started off as a bluesy band back in the late 1960s. As for the rhythm section, those are the band's leaders, Mick Fleetwood and John "Mac" McVie. Next? "The Chain" - IMO the band's masterpiece. Or "Tusk", their left-field oddity. (PS - don't knock falling in love with a witch!)
In Welsh mythology, Rhiannon was the goddess of fertility and the moon.
It’s funny how they only think of witch as a horror movie character that wants to kill you 😂😂
Witches are just mystical women, very in tune with their spirituality and nature.
@@ThaiDaherexactly 😂
Fleetwood Mac was a highly respected blues rock band before Buckingham/Nicks. The Peter Green era is probably the best example of this. You should listen to “Oh Well” or the original “Black Magic Woman” to see what they used to sound like.
There is a live version It’s the Midnight Special tv 📺 show. Stevie went wild it’s worth a 👀. ❤️🔥
The version Teresa mentioned is incredible, you three should watch it when you get a chance, the ending blows away the orginal!
Yes, they most definitely should have played the live version of Rhiannon, as they are completely missing how mesmerizing Stevie is when she goes into her "trance" is what I call it.
Midnight Special ❤️
Those were the days...🙂
Yes, that live on the Saturday Night Special is by far the best version I’ve ever heard. Ever.
Definitely, thee only one to watch!!!!
Goosebumps still after 45 years
Hypnotized by Fleetwood Mac is sooooo good. Just do it. 😄
A Bob Welch song. Great track, great guitar. He was replaced by Lindsey Buckingham. Bob had replaced Peter Green, the original lead guitarist.
YESSS!! I still have the vinyl...
Like others have mentioned, "Gold Dust Woman" has a similar feel to it and I fully believe you guys would love it just as much. For something really different, you should listen to "Tusk." There's never been another song like it that I've heard. It's interesting that you noticed the blues influence because Fleetwood Mac was originally considered a blues band when it was founded by British artist Peter Green in 1967, who was influenced by American blues artists. Their sound evolved through the years as they changed members several times, but the rhythm section never changed. McVie and Fleetwood are just naturally bluesy players.
She is queen of the other world and queen of forgiveness
I agree 100% with all of the "Gold Dust Woman" suggestions...Then next - "The Chain". Great reaction.
That bass line is so good, unique, and a groovy feel that keeps the whole tune movin'.
That bell sound Is keys. Christine McVie on the Fender Rhodes
Saw them in 1978 and they were spectacular!!! Mick is a fabulous drummer!!
I love the fact that you said Lindsay is one of the most underrated guitar players of all time because he truly is! Great review guys
The original iteration of Fleetwood Mac was as a straight up blues band (Peter Green) before transitioning into rock.
One of the best albums of,the year in 1975
You guys would definitely get a rise out of Stevie's singing of this song on the Midnight Special. It's quite the famous performance. Iconic.
There always seemed to be "Stevie songs", "Lindsey songs" and "Christine songs". My favourites were usually the Stevie songs, so when she started putting out her own albums, I was in heaven. They are all amazing, however. For me, this was always Fleetwood Mac's first album, as it was the first album with this line-up of musicians. Thanks for this review. They are absolutely wonderful and so are you. I love you guys! :)
Check out Hypnotized (pre- Buckingham / Nicks)
1974-1977 Were epic years for rock and roll.
Such a sublime tune!!!
("She is like a cat in the dark, and then she is the darkness....")
I think you guys will also love "The Chain"
🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
Gold Dust Woman is a fav of mine by Fleetwood Mac. It also has kind of dark vibes too… definitely put on your list for future reaction.
Fun Fact: You may have heard Santana's "Black Magic Woman" (if not, well, duh!)... Would it surprise you to know that it was actually first released by Fleetwood Mac?! You were surprised that this was FM's 10th album... that's because they were very different before. They were led by Peter Green, and it was a much more Blues-oriented band. On RUclips, you can find a Live version of "Black Magic Woman" by Fleetwood Mac that features Peter, who actually wrote that song,... it is amazingly good!
One of the things that has always put Fleetwood Mac near the top of great groups for me is the harmonies of Christine, Stevie, and Lindsey. It's hard to pick out the individual voices. RIP Christine.
TEXAS HIPPIE COALITION... HANDS UP... LYRIC VIDEO..
Tight Band!
Their first album (1968) was also called 'Fleetwood Mac'
I was 15 when Rhiannon played on the radio. It was everything.
Love your comments on the rhythm section. mick FLEETWOOD & john MCvie is what makes it Fleetwood Mac😉 They are also the only band members, who made it from start to finish. First, the blues era with Peter Green, then Danny Kirwan, then the mid period with Bob Welch, and finally the Buckingham/Nicks era.
Fleetwood Mac always kills it. One of the greatest bands.
stevie has introduced this song as "about a welsh witch" and rhiannon became a popular girl's name after this became a hit. and yes, the name is welsh lol.
the overall sound of FM from this album on is lindsey buckingham's amazing treatment of and ability to arrange their songs to create that magical atmosphere and vibe. lindsey is a superstar 🌟
Greetings from Portugal! "I'm So Afraid" from The Dance is another side of FM and Lindsey Buckingham you definitely need to experience!...
Get the Buckingham-Nicks album from 1973. It gives you the bones for what grew into Fleetwood Mac.
Glad to see how you guys recognizing and appreciating Lindsey Buckingham. An all-time and underrated guitarist, indeed.
I believe the electric piano is the wonderful Christine McVie.
Would also recommend "Gold Dust Woman", but "Silver Springs" live is fíre. Basically the whole of "The Dance" album (which is live from 1997) is top notch. For a Lindsey Buckingham led song that is less mainstream check out "I'm So Afraid" again in particular from The Dance.
Nick, you may already know that the two times Fleetwood Mac toured without Lindsey they had to multiple guitarist to cover just what Lindsey plays. Further proving your point of how great and under-rated he truly is. ALSO, when Stevie sang Flretwood Mac songs on her solo tours she employed several players to cover his parts. Thought it might be a fun fact.
This song would be nothing without Christine's harmonies.
Seen this live three times! Life changing.
Isn’t it?
This was played a lot on AHS the coven
Please react ti 1976 live performance if Rhiannon. Stevie is totally mesmerising and Lindsay on guitar - also check out Lindsay doing Big Love live.
Solo with just his guitar
A refrain mean, "to repeat", and in music can, at times, a refrain can be synonymous with a Chorus, because it is a part of the song that is repeats repeatedly, usually between verses. However, a refrain can be just 1 or more lines that repeat, but it doesn't HAVE to be what's considered THE chorus. To elaborate, "a chorus is a refrain, or a part of a song that is repeated after a verse" (and often contains the song title). A refrain may also be used in the beginning or ending of a song to say the same thing over and over again. I hope that made sense.
I LOVE FM so much. I've seen them in concert but it was back in the 90's when Lindsey wasn't with them. I've seen Stevie Nicks twice. She is phenomonal. My gypsy Queen 👸 💖
She is my idol. No matter what mood I'm in she has a song that goes with my mood. This song is a song about a Celtic witch. *****You guys MUST watch the 1976 Midnight Special live performance. It is so amazing!****!!!
Also, Fleetwood Mac has been through 3 different versions of themselves. They started out as a blues band in England. That is why you are picking up on that blues sound. Stevie & Lindsey had their own thing going on in San Fransisco. Mick Fleetwood learned about Lindsey and offered him a spot in the band in 1974. Lindsey responded with "not without my girlfriend who sings". That was Stevie, of course. Then magic happened and you have a new version of the rock sound of FM. Between Lindsey, Stevie and Christine they wrote so many incredible songs. This one was written by Stevie. Believe it or not with all their amazing songs the ONLY one that went #1 was "Dreams" written by Stevie. I could go on and on. Huge fan here! 😁
You guys haven't heard nothing until you see the MidNight Special live version.
Before Stevie Nicks joined the band, Fleetwood Mac was a blues band. Stevie really thought about what she could add, and when she was asked to join, she brought a witchy kind of deep fairytale vibe to the band and it just worked.
The live version is mind blowing
Landslide and The Chain are great songs
Fleetwood Mac started as an English blues band, led by Peter Green. Check out songs like Dr Brown. Gary Moore put out 2 blues albums dedicated to Peter Green! Perhaps their masterpiece was a piece of music called Albertros. After Green and another member left the band, Mick Fleetwood, John Macvie and his wife Christine moved to the US. A few new members, then more changes, and eventually the band that became the band most people know.
Someone else commented, and I’m adding to it-get yourselves a copy of Buckingham-Nicks album. It was Stevie and Lindsey’s first and ONLY album and it was/is out of print. I think a few people have uploaded it to YT. You will REALLY hear and appreciate Lindsey’s guitar work and Stevie’s lyrics. ANY song on that album is 🔥.
The whole album is playlist!! The Rhythm section Mick Fleetwood drums and John Mcvie bass were in the original Fleetwood Mac for years before this album and they were a classic British Blues Band and had one of the most respected guitarists of the time Peter Green.
Stevie enchants you and that's it...you're done!
Fleetwood Mac what can you say. If you love good blues, the two dueling first albums are freaking amazing. Then again almost all their albums are freaking amazing. 💮💮
You can't beat John Mc Vie on bass, he always keeps it all held together as everybody else goes all around the world with voice and instrument ,McVie brings them all home again..... Lindsey is my favorite guitarist, and everyone else in as Ryan always says Fire!....
My favorite version of this song is from "The Dance" tour. Ya gotta see it! When you do, keep in mind, they are decades apart.
You're right about Buckingham being underrated. You haven't lived until you've seen him play live.
When I was learning how to play bass after years on guitar i must say how cool John McVie’s bass playing is
Mick Fleetwood’s beats are creative while rhythmic they step out of the ordinary, those snare beats are flams 👍🏼
This is one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs! Awesome song!!!❤❤❤
Fleetwood Mac were a blues band before Stevie and Lindsey joined. You should check out some of the original Fleetwood Mac's songs... Also known as Peter Greene's Fleetwood Mac... One of the best chill out songs ever is "Albatross", for songs with vocals I'd recommend "Oh Well".
Oh my my…Stevie,Lindsay, Christine, John, and Mick just completely destroyed everything. They were so good and it’s so sad they broke up, but then we wouldn’t have had Stevie on her own, which would’ve been a damn shame! Excellence for sure!!!
the 'tale' I like is that when they were making the transition to this style, one of the previous members said: "this is pretty far away from the blues"
and someone said: "yeah, but it's a lot closer to the bank".
I've sat right in front of Lindsay on multiple occasions. both w/ FM and solo. You are very correct with your admiration. If you ever have the chance. . . be sure to see him live.
Alright guys!!! If you liked Rhiannon, you need to hear "Hypnotized" from the Album "Mystery To Me". It's from an earlier album when Bob Welch was the lead singer...this is my favorite FM song...(and I've seem them twice in concert with Stevie, and twice saw Stevie's solo concerts....the lyrics are kinda spooky, and the music is ....well, you'll find out!!
Yes, I love Hypnotized. God knows I have listened to that song more than 100 times. The dreamy guitar work and Bob Welch's haunting voice are out this world. I doubt that post-bob welch Fleetwood Mac could re-create that atmosphere.
One of their best.
🤘🤘🤘
You Must Watch Live Version on "Midnight Special 1976"
Live Live Live Live version
Awesome song! Check out "Songbird," a ballad by Christine McVie on the "Rumours" album, or maybe Christine's "Say You Love Me" from this same "Fleetwood Mac" album.
You guys MUST listen to GOLD DUST WOMAN on RUMOURS!!!
Time to listen to Need Your Love SO Bad and Albatross, from the early days, or Oh Well.
This song is about a Welch witch is how Stevie described it on the Live Version.
Welsh?
Next one to do is "Silver Springs" but do the version from their live gig The Dance. Look at the vibe between Lindsey and Stevie during that performance.
you might wanna try the Chain! if you've ever watched F1 in the UK you'll recognise the riff
Gentlemen! This is very good but the version at Midnight Special in 76 is phenomenal! Stevie Nicks was on 🔥 Fire. I suggest reacting to that if possible. It doesn't get blocked also.
"Gold Dust Woman" is fire!
LITA FORD.. FALLING IN AND OUT OF LOVE..🤪
Love that you guys are doing FM. Try Tusk if you can or Gold Dust Woman
WARLOCK...ALL WE ARE.. OFFICIAL VIDEO HD..
Fleetwood Mac were a blues band for at least the first 5 albums, the first four being classic Fleetwood Mac as far as i'm concerned, The first four featuring Peter Green one of my favourite British blues guitarists. Christine McVie joind FM for the fifth album leaving Chicken Shack, also a blues band. Oh and my youngest daughter is Rhiannon, I'm half welsh so both my daughters have welsh names.
Da iawn!
@@jamesdignanmusic2765 thanks lol
You can always count on tasteful--and tasty--guitar work from Lindsey. Stevie casts her spell with her song writing and vocals. What an immense addition they were to this band.
Another great song our band covered Great harmonies, great beat, great guitar great song
TWISTED SISTER..THE KID'S ARE BACK..
I was first introduced to Fleetwood Mac around 1980, instantly became my favorite band and still are.
Some suggestions:
Gypsy ( Stevie lead vocals) - incredible music video
Landslide ( Stevie )
Say You Love Me ( Christine )
You Make Loving Fun ( Christine )
Hold Me ( one of the early MTV videos and blew everything else away on the channel at that time, very creative )
Man you need to do the Live Version of Rhiannon, Live at The Midnight Special 76.
This is a great song and they have many. I think if you haven't done a vid on "the chain" that is one I would suggest by them for sure or "monday morning". Honestly lots to choose from with them. Also I have not seen you do a reaction to my personal favorite band the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band. If you do get around to them then "Blue on Black" is their signature song but "slow ride", "Deja Voo doo" are also excellent.
"I'm so Afraid" is another great one from this album, but it's best to do a live version from a recent tour, (2013, 2016-ish). Buckingham's solo at the end is epic.
Then there are "Gold Dust Woman" from Rumours, and "Sisters of the Moon" from Tusk, which are similar style Stevie songs.
"Bluesy"go check out very early Fleetwood Mac. One of the greatest blues band ever
The Midnight Specials Live performance was awesome Stevie Nick's goes off the last minute. We'll worth a revisit or live reaction
One of my favorites! Saw them in concert! Magical! Lindsey is definitely underrated! If you haven't already, check out THE CHAIN BY them!
good to see the youngsters study their history...
recommended, off the beaten path:
"Sons Of Champlin" - Album: 'Loosen Up Naturally' 1969 - Songs: '1982-A', then 'Get High'; after that pick any song on the album.
"The Sons of Champlin are an American rock band, from Marin County in the San Francisco-Bay area, formed in 1965. They are one of the 1960s San Francisco bands, along with Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead and Moby Grape."
If you are interested in another case of underappreciated 'san francisco sound' greatness,
I think you would appreciate the band/album "It's a Beautiful Day" (1969) and the songs 'Hot Summer Day' (soft), 'Wasted Union Blues' (hard)...(they had a hit with "White Bird" but you can wait on that until or if you decide you want to hear more)
You should see the live version...Stevie goes off!
Fleetwood Mac needed a guitarist. John McVie heard the Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham album and liked it. He asked Lindsey to join the band. He agreed, but only if Stevie could join as well.
It was a package deal. That began Stevie's involvement with Fleetwood Mac.
Fav FM song!! Glad it's going on your playlists!! 🥳
Must do live version of this song
More. 🙂
Gold Dust Woman is a great song. They have so many.
I would guess that the "chimes" or "bells" sound was an electric piano. Maybe a Fender Rhodes.
Falling in Reverse just dropped a new banger!!! Voices in My Head🔥🔥🔥
Great reaction!
I feel blessed to have grown up in the era I did - the greatest music and artists.
This song is a masterpiece song and it comes from a great album - Fleetwood Mac's self-titled. Their next album, Rumors, is one of the greatest albums of all time. You can literally react to every song.
