    This series seems to have re-energised you. It's lovely to see. I guess part of it is because you're building with purpose and knowing the instrument will be going into use.

      It really does make a difference, that and it been too long since I used a lot of hand tools! 😁

    I’m learning so much watching this build. I’ve always been unsure about my ability to use planes, but you’ve convinced me to start learning.
    Thanks!

    You're right. Planes are the most satisfying and meditative hand tool. Thanks for sharing!

      So pleased I found them after years of table saws etc. 👍

    I love planes. I have several old stanley baileys from 4 to 8 and they are great. A sharp plane is a wonder. Shame most people dont ever experience planing with a properly sharp blade. Guitar making is more satisfying when you combine hand tools with power tools for the big tasks Great videos btw !

    I have (2) #4 planes, a #5, a #6 and a #7. I'd say my #6 is my go-to most of the time. Love that thing. 😎

    Wow this is coming together a right sight quicker than I'd thought it would! Ben Crowe could learn a thing or two here... ;P

      Ben often has many projects on at once, which why I strictly limit myself to one!

    Had some fun with planes just today, fitting the cavity cover on my latest build. I need me a couple more, though.

    Really nice work 👍.
    While dimensioning I noticed you didn't use marking gauge but then i thought and realized it's not a dovetail box so trying to achieve perfect parallelity is not required. 😁
    I love hand planes!!!😄 I have a handful of old (from 40'-60' era) Records - two num 4, num 5 and 5 1/2 , and few modern/new planes ones. In future i would like to get a an old record 778. Quick hand plane question - for fine smoothing did you try to move a frog "over the edge" ?- I ask because i see that with older blades this is what you would have to do if you want to have a minimal mouth opening.

    • @KingBespokeCreations
      @KingBespokeCreations  9 месяцев назад +2

      The frog is definitely there to change the mouth of the plane, I had to move it back when I changed the blade as it was thicker than the previous.

    In real time, how long did that scrub take you?

      @@Eeklex that’s exactly what this is. A modern Stanley SB4, a hideous plane for smoothing but perfect to make into a scrub 👍

    I just look at a plane and I'm intimidated... I have learned how to gouge wood so far. You make it look so easy. thank you

      @KingBespokeCreations  9 месяцев назад +1

      They are the simplest tool. Have a sharp blade and set it shallow and you won’t go far wrong 👍

      @peternotpeter 9 месяцев назад

      @@KingBespokeCreations Yes, I shall try to sharpen a blade first before attempting to do any planing.
