The plastic cladding around the wheel-wells is a god-sent in the salt-belt of NE America. No more bubbling and rusting wheel-wells. The contrast of the black with the color (if you maintain it with some trim protector) really amps up the look of the car. That larger screen look good, but I still prefer physical buttons/ Dials for the AC/CC I can feel my way around without taking my eyes off the road
Actually what might happen is it will Rust underneath it and you won't know it's rusting and then it will Rust Out bad I've seen a lot of cars with plastic cladding that when you actually if you took the cladding off its rusting underneath the cladding
I love my 24’ Crosstrek Premium! Been having a lot of fun with it & I learned to drive in a 98’ forester but my grandparents had an 82 GL Wagon & the other one I’ve driven a lot was my dads 2011 Outback. The new Crosstrek is so much quieter than the 11’ outback in terms of road noise & engine noise as well as it handles better. (But I’ve heard that was a complaint w/the 2011 Outback anyways). I do a lot of hiking & camping & am excited that I don’t have to suffer w/an old Buick who’s transmission was going out anymore. 😆 All in all, it’s been a solid car so far!
I absolutely love my 2023 Crosstrek Limited! For someone that was basically a Honda customer having purchased; a Prelude, 2 Civic Si’s for my daughters when they turned 18, an Accord (wife), 4 Odysseys and 5 CR-Vs, I am truly very pleased with my first Subaru! I find that the ride is comfortable, engine power is adequate and gas mileage is excellent! My wife is driving the CR-V 2022 Touring! I also find that the Crosstrek is quieter on acceleration and seems peppier than the 1.5 L turbo CR-V!
So I bought a 2024 Crosstreck premium and here are my thoughts. First of all, I tested the impressa RS with the crosstreck and found the 30 or so extra HP didn’t make much difference. My negatives are just with the entertainment Bluetooth that seems to drop here and there. Other than than that no complaints. Haven’t tried it in the winter yet, but solid car so far. Do a bit of Uber rides in it. I did add 400 dollar dimming lights rear view mirror with digital compass. Also a wireless phone charger that sucks big time. Got 500 under MSRP with some bargaining. Apparently a popular car in NY.
Fantastic video and description. Seriously you are putting sales people job at risk! I totally agree with Steve's comment about not providing passenger side seats 8 way or even 6 way adjustable. At least Subaru should offer this an option across all trim lines.
picked up a 2024 crosstrek base and maybe not mentioned in this video but you do get the split screens not the big 11 inch one in all their base models of crosstrek and impreza. Besides that, you get all the other bells and whistles so unless you want that big screen and more HP, the base is a great deal.
I am a Subaru fan boy through and through. Started back in the day with a 98 forester. We now have our fourth and fifth Subarus in our driveway…an 18 crosstrek limited and a 22 forester limited. Our last suby we put 255,000km on it over 11 years. That was a 11 outback. Subaru has overcome the head gasket issues that plagued their engines for a long time. Even with that problem the engines run a long time. I really like the new crosstrek BUT in the higher trim models Subaru needs to put in an 8 way adjustable front passengers seat….other makers do and this is very short sighted on their part. Our CT came with only the 6 way drivers seat…glad to see they upped that to the 10 way. Our Forester has the 8 way passenger seat….
Auto stop/start is such a hideous option, wish I could turn it off all the time. I know there is a way to do it but my 2022 Legacy still rattles when it re-starts if I forget to turn it off.
I have a 23 Limited. I love this car. I wouldn't want that larger screen. I drove Audi's for twenty years and this Crosstrek at less than half the price is twice the car the Audi's were, and it takes regular gas too! I had a WRX 2002. That was a fun car
Thanks for the video! Good to see it out in the wild! Still wish they had a more exciting red like on the Mazda CX 30 and CX 50. This red is like an over ripe tomato.😋
I have a 2016 manual Crosstrek with a 1.5 inch lift kit and I love it. I am very interested in upgrading to the Wilderness edition when that comes out. The 2.0 liter engine is under powered in the '16 especially in summer when I'm running the AC. I'll go with the 2.5.
The 2.0 feels just fine for people watching this. There is a lot of exaggeration going on about the 2.0 vs 2.5 unless you demand aggressive acceleration
Just my 2 cents, i wholeheartedly disagree the 2.0 is horribly underpowered to the point where they listened to the massive feedback from customers and put the larger engine in the car.
STILL No Turbo, No rear passenger A/C Vents (for the dog), and No Power liftgate. My wife had the first Crosstrek in '13, second one was a 2016 and now a 2021 Sport with the 2.5... The big improvement(s) over the model years were interior noise and finally some more power with the Sport, but I can't understand WHY they don't TURBO this car....!
I owned and drove an '18 Premium for a few months. I've always liked the looks of the Crosstrek, and liked the look of mine, too, but driving it was slow torture. Nothing worked quite the way it should (the "touch" screen was more of a "beat on" screen to get a response). This one looks great, and I like the aero features (and ground clearance), but there are many equally-affordable choices out there that get substantially better fuel mileage, and that don't make drivers suffer with a CVT.
I have started to look at Subaru for my next vehicle, but I have been reading about Subaru using a silicone glue instead of rubber gaskets and the RTV had lead to engines leaking oil. Is RTV still a problem for current Subaru models and has the CrossTrek suffered from this? Thx for this newbie question.
I'm a basic sort of guy. Just want the basics and don't really need or want all the bells and whissles -. Driving a 2010 Legacy with less than 60,000 milees. In spite of that I'm interested in the basic model.. thanks for your impressions.
I wish the whole lineup was made in Japan, or at least I wish the higher trims were made in Japan. For such a large vehicle, the 2.5L really should be the standard engine and we really need a turbo option and a strong hybrid option. With the Crosstrek being Subaru's best selling car, I don't think these things are too much to ask for. Oh and for the love of God bring back physical climate controls Subaru.
I really wish they’d bring back climate controls, it’s the reason I won’t buy a Subaru. A friend has one with the giant touchscreen and I can see it being annoying
I have a 2018 Crosstrek built in Gunma, Japan and had an Outback before it built at SIA. Ran the Outback to well past 200k before gifting it still running and my 2018 is trouble free at 72k (as it well should be). The drivetrains and many other components come in fully prebuilt, and the panel gaps and quality on my SIA car were just as good as my Gunma car is. I do understand that fuzzy feeling from a Made in Japan car, my other car (S2000) is too, but SIA does a great job, is ISO compliant etc.
We have the 18 limited. The 2 liter has plenty of power to do what needs to be done. Canada will still receive the Crosstrek that is made in Japan…yay. We also have a 22 Forester…made in Japan as well.
My 2022 forester premium was built in Japan and has physical climate controls. It was only about 2 k more than the higher priced cross trek but it’s not as hip as the cross trek 🤷🏻♀️
I owned a 1999 forester and a 2007 forester and loved both of them. I loved the automatic transmission specially when I lived up north and worked perfect in snow situation. I don’t know why Subaru decided to go with a CVT transmission. I wish and hope Subaru goes back to an automatic transmission. I test drove the new 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness and liked the way it looked and the way it felt on the road. The CVT felt weird because you don’t feel the transmission changing gears.
I have a 2018 Crosstrek and would be more inclined to call it a 'bad roader' rather than an 'off roader'. I have driven mine down rough tracks and rutted, corrugated roads but wouldn't attempt to take it to places that, for example, a Range Rover would tackle.
Fender-well cladding is fine - but not weirdly-shaped and oversized (in the wrong place) cladding. When Subaru tries to be stylish, it ends up looking silly. The only reason Subaru still uses the 2.0 liter engine is to encourage buyers to purchase a Sport or Limited; the production cost-difference between the two engines certainly must be minimal, along with the difference in mpg.
the center console screen gets washed out in the bright sun. For the controls that are static, should have had them physical, I could feel them without having to take my eyes off the road to look at a screen that I have difficultly seeing during a sunny day. Auto Start/Stop is garbage on subaru's, really on most cars. Its clunky, you might save 1mpg if you are lucky, that equates within a car that gets 30mpg..... would be cents. Pennies. Which you'll spend once you realize that car batteries that support start/stop are significantly more expensive, which means you save nothing. Maybe pennies again.
All due respect to the performance oriented driving enthusiasts out there, I think the Subaru CVT is functionally proficient for the AWD cars in the Subaru lineup. They often get as good or better gas mileage than their competitors with just 2 wheel drive cars.
@@ontarioman6301 Which models are you talking about? I can't find any reports of recent models having mass CVT issues. So I guess they did make it more reliable?
Belt/Chain design CVTs are just not a reliably robust/durable design, regardless of who makes them. But yeah, they get a few more MPG while they are working & they usually last long enough to make it outside a vehicle's power-train warranty period - which is all the automakers care about.
We have two 2021 Crosstrek Outdoor ( Canadian model only with the 2.5 ) ….these are some of the best value for your money vehicles built today. And by the looks the 2024 ..we won’t be trading ours in as we have done every three years ..because you can no longer have StarTex as the covering for the seats and there’s now a big distraction device in the middle of the dash that in order to change certain functions I need to take my eyes off the road to make changes..that’s a duh moment. They are both keepers … I’m a really big Subie fan but some times to keep pace with what everyone is doing ..they are going backward
Got a 24, limited back in February. My only two complaints are the infotainment sometimes won’t connect easily to my Samsung flip phone, and the engine being a bit anemic, but That’s not why I got it to begin with so,maybe more reason 1.
i like my 2022, it is a manual. i wont be trading it on another crosstrek as they eliminated the manual option. despite the EPA rating being lower on the manual i still get an average 32-33 MPG. if i ever decided to trade in a few years the fact the WRX is still offered with a manual might be an excuse for me to buy one. they look like a fun car to drive.
well I had a 2005 jeep wrangler and grew tired of it so I started shopping for a new car. my landlord had a 2000 Subaru with 240000 miles not kms which I tried to buy off him, but he wouldn't sell it so I went to the Subaru dealer and ended up buying a new crosstrec wilderness in blue 3000 kms later I'm still in love with it except for my speeding ticket which was my first in over 50 years of driving
I’ll take the Sport with the 2.5 motor in-red please! No fuel economy penalty with 30 more HP is a no brainer. Looking forward to getting mine this fall! Great review too! 😎👍
The Honda salesman was very disappointed that I didn’t buy a Civic…but I’m delighted with my cross trek. It’s green, just like split pea soup, so I call it “Soupy.”
I dream of acquiring a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness 2.5 - 2024. I live in Brazil and here we only have Forester and XV 2.0 gasoline and Hybrid. I prefer gasoline. We also only have 4 stores. Do you know how I can import a Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.5 car? Thanks
And it isn't in my '22 Outback. There are better infotainment displays out there, but there are FAR MORE WORSE infotainment systems across most auto manufacturers.
It looks like it sits kind of low. I have a kia soul to replace, where I don't have to crouch down to crawl in and out of it. How is it getting in and out of the crosstrek?
I have the 2017 version and I love it. Is it true that the later versions have a forward facing camera similar to the reversing camera so you can look at how you are parking? Mine has done 90K km but I haven’t decided if I’ll get a new one. I’m going on a few more trips in the next year so see how it goes.
For a 4th car, I wouldn't mind getting one. Especially since the MPGs are nice. The only thing(s) that prevent me from getting one? No Turbo, and that Funky CVT. Which yes, I know, CVTs are here to stay. ☠
@@Kiss__Kiss Kiss, you have 3, 4 doors and a family hauler. That's $300,000+ worth of metal, why do you need a Crosstrek or even a 5th car in general. Gosh the money rich people spend on things they don't need always amazes me. That's to say you are not just making this up for some weird nerd reason.
@@robob221 Good afternoon. No Sir, I am not making up the fact that, it's crappy having to pay for; Multiple registrations, Insurance, Maintenance, Gas, etc.. We are NOT rich( I wish!!) We are just old, and our drug of choice is our vehicles.
I'm gonna get the 2023 Limited in a month or two. Overall I love everything about the car, except Auto Stop/Start 🤮🤬. I'm glad to learn it won't be worthwhile (for me) to wait for the 2024 - because of the hideous and obnoxious larger infotainment system 🤮, higher price, and decreased cargo capacity. I do like that for 2024 they did away with the stupid colored stitching on the dash, and the toned-down look of the upholstery looks so much better, as well keeping the overall good looks of the exterior 👍🏼
That's awesome. You're gonna be able to score a SWEET deal on a loaded 23. I like the 23 body better, but to be honest, it's the display and simplicity of the new infotainment that has actually got me waiting for the Wilderness 2024. You are in a WAY better buying position, though, so as a former car salesman, congrats!
It's a very nice car. I had to get the 2024, because they quit production on the 2023 in February or March of 2023. Subaru really messed up the AC controls. If I don't want to slam into a wall, I have to wait until the car is stopped to adjust the AC. You have to really stare at that thing to change your AC settings. The new smaller sound system knobs are nicer than those giant things on the 2023. There's plenty of space at the bottom of that screen to have placed a few analog AC dials. Plus that makes for safer driving. (Honda got that right on the HR-V.) They rushed production on the 2024 to increase profits, naturally. At least Subaru provides 90% better service at the dealership than Honda does. The Honda dealership in my town is a real hot mess. Subaru is kicking Honda's you know what in sales.
Have a 2015 Crosstrek Limited. Great in New England winters with AWD and 8.7" ground clearance. Wish it didn't have leather seats. Hate the roof rails. Very difficult clear snow from the roof.
The TV in the dash has to stop. Giant touch screens suck so bad. The interface is never designed well enough to substitute real buttons. Navigating menus on a touch screen while the vehicle is moving is a horrible experience. This trend needs to end.
I had a warranty replacement on my HK head unit like your car has.. unfortunately no infotainment stuff is likely to stand the test of time. But at least we can still turn the HVAC knobs if the screen is dead.
Mine is a 2.5 litre. In Canada. 2022 Outdoor. I would love to race it, as per your comment about how to go about that. It only needs a turbo. it seems like the 2.5 Crosstrek is just waiting for a turbo. Double Xmode is awsome...by the way.
Just picked up ‘23 Limited 2.5L in Feb. Subaru had 4.9% financing for existing dealer lot inventory. Figured rates weren’t going down any time soon. Scored extra $500 off msrp.
Those aero wheelwell holes are just going to jam up with mud, snow and everything else that jams inside wheelwells or direct debris into the painted surfaces don’t ya think?
Again, no mention of the auto-seat controls, which leaves me to believe that the '24 model doesn't feature lumbar control either. Subaru designers seem to be unaware of the fact that this inexpensive item is a necessity probably for half or more of their potential customers. When will they stop shooting themselves in the foot and keep at bay a sizable segment of the interested Crosstrek buyers, including myself?
The 2.0 should not exist anymore. Its just not enough. On a 2wd vehicle it would be adequate. With the added power loss that comes with AWD, it is dangerously slow.
My impression of the 2.5 engine vs the 2.0 engine is that the 2.5 engine does not have to work as hard as the 2.0 engine. I do not think it is supposed be performance improvement
NO 360-degree camera that is VERY important safety feature that I can *identify who was following me or broke my window or slammed side of my car when I am parked or most of all, the car jacker-ahol(s), I can retrieve after downloading my Sd card!
Love this and the Crosstrek. Ford really missed the mark on the Focus and then the Escape and then the Bronco Sport. The Focus should have evolved into an AWD and the Escape should have been what the Bronco Sport is. Subaru has taken a really good stance here while remaining tru to naming, focus, capability and performance. LOVE what Subaru puts out (minus the Forrester which is dog ugly).
I prefer happy looking cars also. To many look angry like Storm Troopers from Star Wars, remembering the first time seeing one of the new Rav4 s years ago in white and a angry storm trooper was my first thought.
I'd like one, but I need an 8 way power seat and at least the previous model only had 6 way. I need to be able to tip the front of the cushion up just to get that thigh support and little bit extra legroom. Hopefully the 2024 Limited will have it.
Both my sons own Subaru models. I don't dislike them, but Mazda CX-30 with the basic 2.5 engine will blow the doors off it with the bump shifter on the 6-Speed auto transmission. Yeah I own a 2023 model.
Wait.. was that a serious comment about the Nalgene bottles? What outdoorsy person is going to say “you know what put my Nalgene bottle in the console!!”… absolutely no one. That was a measuring device, not an actual suggestion to put your Nalgene bottles there.
To bad they took all the physical controls and digitized into their slow unintuitive touch screen. Ridicules that need to go through 3 screens just to turn the heaters on. I purchase a 2023 model because it still had the physical controls.
The plastic cladding around the wheel-wells is a god-sent in the salt-belt of NE America. No more bubbling and rusting wheel-wells. The contrast of the black with the color (if you maintain it with some trim protector) really amps up the look of the car.

They are both keepers …
I’m a really big Subie fan but some times to keep pace with what everyone is doing ..they are going backward
I'm waiting for the Wilderness Edition, which will hopefully have the StarTex interior. That material is a game changer.
@@TheOGMattBurns my dealer confirmed the 2024 will have StarTex
CVT is the weakest link in Subarus, especially off-road when you could use some extra torque.
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing this crossover here
Got a 24, limited back in February.
I didn't catch it in your video, but what color is that Crosstrek?
If I can get out the door paying $28,000 for the Premium I’ll definitely take it.
Looking like holding out is the option.
Thanks
Any comments on the scheduled maintenance costs? I heard they are on the high end when following Subaru's recommended service schedule.
I'm really not on the hate train about the display. I just don't think it'll be that bad once you get used to it.
I’m going on a few more trips in the next year so see how it goes.
will the 2024 crosstrek have a cd player ?
No, we have a 2022 Outback with the large touch screen and it is omitted. Maybe the base model? It is a bummer.
@@medad5716 You CAN get a CD player in the Outback (special order), but you have to buy a higher trim model.
Disappointing
Did you mention the color? Maybe I missed it. Pure Red or Sunblaze Orange?
For a 4th car, I wouldn't mind getting one. Especially since the MPGs are nice. The only thing(s) that prevent me from getting one? No Turbo, and that Funky CVT. Which yes, I know, CVTs are here to stay. ☠
4th car? Get a Miata or gr86.
@@robob221 Yeah, we have an Audi S4, a Subaru STI, an Audi Avant(Wagon), and a Lexus GX for our Costco trips.
When are these going to be available to get?
The Base and Premium will start rolling out in June. November for Sport and Limited.
I JUST BOUGHT ONE ITS AWESOME
It makes me sad because those old foresters and Crosstreks with a manual could get close to doing jeep style off-roading if you had the manual.
Looking good Matt.
is this the sun blaze color?
Sure, the infotainment is a laggy ipad, but I'll take anytime that isn't a screen raised up on the dash.
The TV in the dash has to stop. Giant touch screens suck so bad. The interface is never designed well enough to substitute real buttons. Navigating menus on a touch screen while the vehicle is moving is a horrible experience. This trend needs to end.
They should have kept the manual transmission option & offered it with the 2.5 engine.
No one bought it sadly.
No one drives a manual
Sure. Like you would have bought it.
@@arkos55 I would...... my 2023 is a manual 😉
@@The-Jokes-on-You You and five others. I live manuals too, but they don’t make cars for the five people left who drive them.
Love the Subaru style and more specifically the Crosstrek style.
i have a 2012 Subaru 2 .5 turbo pulls my boat ok wonders if it will go ok its 5mtr ally cat 90 hp
Do a longer Impreza RS vid
They should offer Sunroof as a separate option. Not everyone wants it.
The screen is the only reason i wouldn’t buy it, I just don’t think all tech in cars will age well. I’ll keep my 22’ Sport model
I had a warranty replacement on my HK head unit like your car has.. unfortunately no infotainment stuff is likely to stand the test of time. But at least we can still turn the HVAC knobs if the screen is dead.
I’d like it more if the roof didn’t slope down so much to the back which loses a lot of interior space
does it have auto sensing wipers?
No.
In this economic climate, I think you made a decent deal.
Shame they dropped the manual. I assume x mode is basically a type of centre diff lock.
It stinks that they did away with the manual . Guess ill drive my 2018 manual crosstrek till the wheels fall off
I am looking into this car. Do I need to use the shifters in order to drive?
How tall is this guy? He's towering that crosstrek lol
Cladding Crosstrek and forester are good. Outback not so much
Please Subaru, install the rear AC vents for 2025 model year. Ppl get hot back there. Corolla Cross, Kia Seltos, Nissan Quashqai, Mazda CX30 has them.
Those aero wheelwell holes are just going to jam up with mud, snow and everything else that jams inside wheelwells or direct debris into the painted surfaces don’t ya think?
Don’t forget the Wilderness Edition!
Couldn't agree more. I had a 2013, and power was pathetic.
bring back the manual transmission!
My impression of the 2.5 engine vs the 2.0 engine is that the 2.5 engine does not have to work as hard as the 2.0 engine. I do not think it is supposed be performance improvement
Great review, great insight.
I purchased a 2024 Subaru limited Crosstrek it has no heated steering wheel I live in New York it gets cold
The Ford Focus I bought in 2001 fell apart at 36K. My 2002 Honda CRV is still strong at 185 K
The deal breaker for me is no manual anymore. They should put the manual with 2.5 liters engine. The 2.0 liter is a dog, 0-60 in 10 seconds.
Those touch controls are disappointing to see. Can't wait for this shitty trend to be over or regulated away.
I hate the black cladding on the WRX.
I prefer happy looking cars also. To many look angry like Storm Troopers from Star Wars, remembering the first time seeing one of the new Rav4 s years ago in white and a angry storm trooper was my first thought.
Too much black plastic cladding. Couldn’t they body color paint it on higher trims?
I'd like one, but I need an 8 way power seat and at least the previous model only had 6 way. I need to be able to tip the front of the cushion up just to get that thigh support and little bit extra legroom. Hopefully the 2024 Limited will have it.
This is more like an ad but not a review, tbh.
Both my sons own Subaru models. I don't dislike them, but Mazda CX-30 with the basic 2.5 engine will blow the doors off it with the bump shifter on the 6-Speed auto transmission. Yeah I own a 2023 model.
I love it
Wait.. was that a serious comment about the Nalgene bottles? What outdoorsy person is going to say “you know what put my Nalgene bottle in the console!!”… absolutely no one. That was a measuring device, not an actual suggestion to put your Nalgene bottles there.
Did they finally prove rear seat armrest cup holder????? Omg 😂
To bad they took all the physical controls and digitized into their slow unintuitive touch screen. Ridicules that need to go through 3 screens just to turn the heaters on. I purchase a 2023 model because it still had the physical controls.
