***** Hello and thank you very much for your time and feedback. Ma Bu is used for many purposes, I think what you are talking about here is Zhan Zhuang, which is also a form of practice with Ma Bu, but the emphasis is on Chi, a form of internal exercise. Bending your knees between 15 degree to 45 degree depends on how your body condition is and more for feeling, cultivating and building the Qi (Breath) from your Dan Tian to your whole body, at the same time it make your legs strong, as you say building the tendons, gluteus maximus and hamstring. This used mostly internal styles such as Tai Ji ( Tai Chi) and Qi Gong, more for health exercises. On the other hand, external practices of Ma Bu Horse stance, sitting down to the same level with your knee, 90 degree, this more for Kung Fu external exercise. The movement is harder to do and perfect, the aim is to make your legs strong and stable so that you are able to apply in combat or defense, the practice is designed strengthen the support for your body and stable movements. What you have mentioned is internal exercise, in more advanced level training, you have to combine the stance training and breath (Chi) training together. Lower stance will generate more pressure to your mind and body so you would need more energy , more focus and stamina to balance whole movement and body. The posture of our movement should not stop our Qi (Breath) flow, whether we sit, lie down or bent our knee to Mu Bu, the Qi (Breath) should flow and support our movement. Different teachers may have different understanding and view points, but this is my understanding from all my years of Shaolin Kung Fu Training. Good luck to your training, Master Yan Xin
***** I would like to know from him too. Cause this horse stance looks like a half way squat hold more than anything. In my practice the hips must be aligned with the ankles (not to sure if this puts the knees at a disadvantage) but i know that there are more things that are going on than just sitting down into a horse stance. there is this relationship between activating the back side of the body, with proper mechanics and a mix with flexibility to achieve a long lasting horse stance (at least to my knowledge).
***** I have seen your channel before and i agree with your idea of the foot/glute activation in a horse stance. I am not saying that he is wrong, but to me holding that position is way easier for squats then an actual horse stance. Your statement on unlocking 100% of your brain is too outlandish, the horse stance may enlighten probably a fraction at most of someone's life but not all of it. Besides, the mechanics of a horse stance are not the same as other movement but there is a carryover to other athletic abilities. Just my two cents.
Master I have a question, I didn't study any kung fu, so the question can be silly: why do the 5 stances start to the left direction only? In this way the exercices are a-simmetric, we need to do the sequence to the right also. Could you please explain it to a profane, inexpert? Thanks to your videos I quickly learned the sequence! Beautiful
Amazing thank you! Your videos are so helpful. Any tips for someone just starting out at 24? Working through the stances for short period of time so far. I would love to study as your pupil!
master how long would you advise to stay in these positions? I'm beginning to learn Kung Fu and don't know how long I should stay in one stance to strenghten my legs/roots ..
Start with 10 seconds first, the most importance thing is doing the correct stance even for shorter periods rather stay in a wrong position for long time, then gradually build up on the length a bit by bit. Hope this helps, good luck with training.
I checked out another video on the same form and I noticed the monk did not go as low as you did with Gong Bu and Ma Bu... Are you going lower to build more leg strength or is it just personal preference?
master thank you so much , it really helpful , one more about it ____ that ," i am a beginner , practicing internal energy for punch will be beneficient , i mean i have practice a lot of basic punch though it's the correct time to practice internal energy.......???" and once again thank you master
Awesome thank you
Nice
